Which version should I buy - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys!
Could you help me in identifying the right version for me?
I'm currently on samsung galaxy s advance with Carbon kk rom.
My 1st dilemma is - dual sim or not, knowing that nonstock rom is a must. I believe cm11 now supports dual sim. The price is the same. I would mainly use just one sim, 2nd only when in roaming.
My 2nd dilemma is - 8gb or 16gb version. I wont be playing games, dont have music and video collection.
Other advices would be kindly appreciated...

Definitely get the 16gb if you can, since it's only a little bit more expensive and you get about 13 GB of free space instead of 5 GB.

Dual Sim. 16 of course

Definitely 16GB, more the better when it comes to storage.
If you like playing around with your phone flashing different roms then dual sim isnt for you. Otherwise I don't see why you shouldn't get dual sim phone.

I like playing with roms , thats why i waited for custom rom 4 dual sim to show up. As i see now, cm11, slimbean and others, do support dual sim?
Q: if only 1 sim is onserted, does the phone functions like single sim then, i mean completely?

[Q] Dual Sim on desire HD

Hi,
Anyone tried dual sim adapter in Desire HD ???
I want to use Dual Sim in Desire HD, need some information.
thanks
Have you tried DUO sim?
I have Ordered Duo Sim. Expect to come by next week. Just curious, if somebody has already tried.
dual sim adapter
I ordered this one http://www.mobileguru.co.uk/acatalog/Twin_SIM.html#a26 . Comunication with them is very poor. 1st one didnt work, had to get paypal intervention to get a replacement. Second one didnt work, just comes up on the screen 'INSERT SIM' Still waiting on a reply from them.
Just bought a dual sim chinese phone instead. Only use it with my worldsim while on holiday...not for a 'skank' sim
Please keep us posted on that DUO sim!!
I got a MAGICSIM 28th plus working on this. Took a little fiddling but it's working nicely now.

It was pretty simple. You cut down your sims (which is dead easy and straightforward) then insert as you would your normal sim. Then a sim tool kit menu appears which let's you manage switching of sims etc.
Working brilliantly on my Desire HD now.
One thing to bear in mind is that the MAGICSIM item comes with 2 diff metal sleeves and you need to use the thinner one with the rivets in.
Hope this helps guys!
So... no 2 sims at the SAME TIME right?
No both sims arn't active at the same time. I switch between them.
Oh... Pointless

MagicSim is the best available in the market. Rest are just crap.
They still don't allow us to have 2 sims operating at same time.
So it's pointless I need to receive and make calls on both sims!
Need two phones really...
Hmm. shame we can't have two cards same time..
this ****ed up to put a dual SIM?
why would you need 2 sim cards on a high end phone?...
Better Dont use the dual sim adapter

Why?
@Topic: do you have any issues by switching between the sim cards?
when i swap the sim on the go, in have to reenter the passwords of g-mail, facebook and twitter? do you have something similar?

[Q] Moto G dual sim vs Single sim.

I am about to get a new phone and I am quite lured by Moto G but the only issue is that we only have dual sim model available here in India. I don't use more than one sim, So, I just wanna know is there any difference in User Experience, ram usage, battery life and Rom development between the two models. And also is it possible to use single sim model's rom on dual sim model? Thank you very much.
I only used a normal cellphone as dual sim before, but with that the battery life was decreased big time because both sim cards had a constant connection.
Might be different on android since you might be able to change more settings than with an old cellphone, but it is definitely a danger to battery life.
The OP's question remains unanswered
The OP's question remains unanswered. Does battery life performance of a 'Dual SIM' model reduce(at least considerably, say by at least more than 1% ) compared to single SIM phone even if the second SIM slot is kept vacant?
A GSM arena comparison of Xperia E1 models (singe Vs dual Can not post the link due the forum limitation ) does show a reduction in battery life, however, they haven't mentioned whether the performance was checked with both SIM slots occupied by functional SIM cards. I've already written a query to them, would post the reply here in case I get one.
Would be great if others can share their experience on the subject.

So, the dual-sim version uses more battery in order to make the two sims work, but I think if you'll only use one sim, u can go ahead and buy the dual-sim one, after, u can convert your XT1033 into a GPE or in a XT1032

Dual sim adapter for the Samsung Galaxy S5

So along with my recent phone upgrade i needed to get a new dual sim adapter. Went with another from www.magic-sim.com and its working great for me. Personally always had a great experience with these little devices and can recommend them! :good:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dhbcv_n-zU
Had one for the S4 that stopped working after a while, needing a reboot every time you wanted to pick up signal.
I agree with EnricoIT i had the same problems...
Always had great experiences with these devices personally too, in the past when i've needed any technical help their customer service has always been great.
Does anyone no if it's possible to use data from one sim and phone from the other, at the same time. My work Sim doesn't have data, so I'm constantly tethered to another phone with my sim in it. (WiFi doesn't work well in my workplace)

Surely not. Not until there is a true dualsim version of S5
anyone care to discuss use of the s5 with dual sim adapter? is it simple as pop it in and go, or do you have to manually switch from one sim card to the other? I have a crappy work phone and an s5 and would like to just put the work sim into a dual adapter and carry just the s5.
There is a duos version of S5 (SM-G900FD) like this one that I'm using. They are sold in the middle east, mine is a UAE version but I live in Singapore. Everything is mostly the same except the extra sim slot and its unlock.

[Q] Nano Sim Card Problem

Hi all,
I am now the proud owner of an AM7. However, I have a problem! I cannot get the 2nd sim card to work. The phone only shows bars for the Micro Sim - the Nano Sim is not showing anywhere.
Is there something I am suppose to do to activate the Nano Sim or should it pick it up automatically? Also - I had real problems getting the Nano Sim to fit in the 2nd tray - it seemed a fraction too big. Did anyone else experience this??
Thanks!!

Hello,
Do you have the 16GB/2GB Ram or the 32GB/3GB Ram version of the AM7?
Based on the reviews I checked, the feature of using 2 sims is only limited to the 32GB/3GB Ram version

No I have the International 16GB/2GB however I am almost certain i've seen details saying the dual sim is available on both models. Personally not once have I seen anything to say it was only limited to the 3GB Gold version and I did alot of phone researching.
I really hope this isn't the case anyway!!
Thanks a lot

The nano sim is perfectly sitting in the tray. You should place the sim according to the cut side. The terminals of the sim should face above. May be your nano sim is not cut properly? Is this sim coming as nano sim from the company or you have cut it?
I am having the same problem in sim one. It was working well but now it is not detecting anymore. I think in my case the slot terminals have dislodged.

Hi and thanks for the help. The sim was cut ever so marginally to fit into the tray - however I am surprised I had to trim it at all? When I put it back into my company iPhone it still works. It certainly looks like the sim is sitting correctly but the phone has not detected it once. I'll try again later tonight.
I am concerned though that the 16GB/2GB International version does not support dual sim - only the gold 32GB/3GB version - but as I mentioned above i've never seen this written anywhere anywhere.
Do I assume there is nothing that needs to be 'switched on'??
You should see two sim toolkits in applist. Always, not only if there are 2 cards inserted. You could check build.prop and local.prop for dual sim entries. All should be true. And well 2gg model is single sim normally. Only Chinese models and gold model are dual sim. Maybe you could make it work with patching prop files.
I do have a sim toolkit app but it will not open. So everything seems to indicate the international version does not support dual sims. So disappointing - oh well...... ebay here we come...
Thanks a lot...

It may be too late but in phone menu, could you try keying in *#06# and if 2 IMEIs display, then it should be dual sim.

[Q][XT1033] Android 5.1 Dual sim support

Hello Everyone,
What does native dual sim support by Android actually mean to us? Does it mean that CM sources for 12.1 will also support dual sim? And all the System ui FC's various other problems that the dev's face due to dual sim, will vanish from 5.1?
Does it also mean, dual sim devices will get more roms and get to enjoy all the features that were limited just for single sims?

Afaik dual sim support improvement is only cosmetic (labeling of sims, a bit more clear)
How it is implemented is up to the manufacturer (motorola) because hardware needs to matched up with string/codes etc.
CM can only guess what strings and lines to use/implement to enable dual sim BECAUSE they dont really know how the hardware works (only motorola does because they have the sources etc). Thats why motorola is able to implement dual sim properly on stock roms at a much faster rate.
Theres also the problem of CM not rly supporting dual SIM, so the codes that CM create (after modifing the AOSP code) dont really support dual sim, hence system UI fcs and such.
So thats why a lot of guesswork and trial and error has to be done by whoever wants to make CM compatible with dual sim on falcon. Nothing works out of the box if your phone is a non nexus device and even worse if its a non nexus dual sim. Its easy for CM to guess what has to be done to support single sim devices.
A lot of people need to understand this.

But then, why do they have to proclaim " support for multiple SIM cards" as a new feature?
According to my knowledge, dual sim support was added by the individual phone manufacturers until now. They had to somehow "emulate" a dual sim support. So, even CM had to do it till now. it was a bit difficult since Motorola had the sources and CM did not. My question is, Since it is included in the OS itself from 5.1, do all the hassles caused by the dual sim alone, vanish from 5.1? The implementation of dual sim support by the phone manufacturers/Cm is not necessary anymore(since it is present in the source itself)?

Like i said earlier, it depends on how CM’s code work, or other rom's code work. For example dirty unicorn etc they dont BOTHER to support dual sim. They pick the AOSP codes that reflect that. CM sorta works that way, hence people wanting to port CM to dual SIM having to do their own bit of coding to make things work.
A lot of those dual sim lollipop improvements are cosmetic if im not mistakes, youll have to see for yourself. Even then, it goes back to the rom maker to support dual sim or not.
Android 5.1 GPe is made by Google and they didn't add the support for Dual Sim.So, you cannot get Dual Sim on Android 5.1 GPe.

Proof in the pudding
Hi everyone,
Weird question but all the CM 5.1 roms I have tried so far have no issues dual sim wise.
In fact one of the ROM builders expected the dual sim to work without issues even though he never tested it. ( He doesn't have dual sim moto g)
My question is how is CM or these rom builders doing it while others are not?
Links below I have tested dual sim on my phone, USSD, places search in dialer, 2g and 3g are working without a hitch. (I prefer the 1st link because there are no issues controlling chromecast volume while screen locked.)
