Hey, I'm really new to the android scene, just got my galaxy s2 yesterday I've flashed the litening ROM which says that it roots it, so im assuming my phones rooted. I wanted to put in a MOD which turns off the camera noise and it says you need to go to /data and create a file. How do I access the root files from the PC because with the two file managers i've used on the phone dont have options to create files, help will be VERY highly appreciated!! Sorry if people have posted this before, but i looked and its very complicated for me :S
you can use android commander to access root files on pc , but i have a proplem with it when i copy or paste any file in the root it tells me access denied and you can use super manager on your galaxy .
Hi All, I am new to this forum and android world. I have a samsung galaxy wifi 5 android device running froyo 2.2.2. This is basically equivlent to IPod Touch (I guess). I am trying to make this device detect ad-hoc wireless connection so that i can connect this with my windows mobile phone. After some research I found that wpa_supplicant file needs to be modified. I have already found the patched and complied zip file here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754961. I just need to know how do I flash this file in recovery. So far I have rooted my device, and installed ROM manager. Alos do I need any flash cards? Your help would be much appriciated. Thanks
Same boat here. Google hasn't seemed to help either.
How do you "flash" a zip file in Recovery?
Thanks
First you need ClockWorkMod and know how that phone's version works. Move the zip file that has the new ROM onto your sd card. Boot into ClockWorkMod. Then choose the zip file with ClockWorkMod.
yes google is your friends
but first insall recovery and after use it, choose the downloaded zip file and update your phone with it...

What is your provider ? I'll make some search about it
I found somthing
It is a list of all the stock roms by country
samsdroid.com/2011/11/samsung-galaxy-ace-s5830-stock-rom.html
i downloaded the rom from samsdroid transfered to sd but when i tried to flash it (in CWM) ,there was no such file shown...!! what should i do!!??
maybe it was a tar file meant for flashing thru odin??
Did the file that you downloaded has a .zip file extension behind ? , if it doesn't , add in the .zip . Sometimes , CWM can't detect because mainly of the file extension . It might also be of your antivirus , i've heard of some cases , that people's antivirus started randomly deleting files off , thinking that they're malware and viruses .
Ok. I hope this is in the right spot. I have read thru the forums and can not seem to find a solution to my problem..
To start, I have a Verizion Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate. I am wanting to Root it in order to install Jellybean Rom.. Im using ODIN for this.
These are the two links I am currently using as guides..
theunlockr.com/2012/11/09/how-to-root-the-samsung-fascinate-odin-method
galaxyforums.net/forum/fascinate-rs-guides/1967-how-root-froyo-gingerbread-your-fascinate
Here are the files I have downloaded...
SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones
su-2.3.6.1.x
Superuser (ClockworkMod Recovery)
my problem is Odin is not reading ANY of the above files when im instructed to use the PDA button. the instruction tells me to choose the Clockwork (CWM3_Voodoo.tar .md5) But that does not exist-The files I have downloaded are in zip files. I've extracted these file to folders and Odin still does not read the files. I guess what I need are updated links to these files and maybe an updated guide to rooting my. Thanks!!
DISCLAIMER: Since this is a third-party supplied file, flashing this file places any and all outcomes on YOU, the flasher (get your mind out of the gutter, thanks.) This file, though supplied by Samsung Kies 3, may cause issues or have undesirable effects. What these effects are, I have no clue. If you have a custom recovery, it will be overwritten with the stock recovery. Again, if you use this, you are the one responsible for any negative outcome.
This the official stock ROM flashable via Odin. This took me a few hours to download several times and locate the temp directory that housed it. It is a 2.12 gig tar.md5 file. Since Samsung does not have an open source copy for us to download, I used Kies 3 to download it.
FLASHING INSTRUCTIONS:
Using the most recent Odin, put the file in the AP section and flash it.

Thank you so much it fixed my bricked device!
Thank you so much - Accidentally upgraded firmware and lost root and could not re-root. Worked like a charm and used kingroot to gain root again. You rock!
It downloads as a .RAR file if converted to .TAR, ODIN can not load it. How can the .rar file be used by ODIN?

The flashable .Tar file that you will use to restore your device via Odin, is located inside the .RAR provided in the download link. Once the .RAR file has been unrared/unzipped using 7zip, you will have your restore .Tar file that you're referring to. If you need to, you can Google 7zip and download it. The program is free and open-source, and it supports .RAR .TAR .ZIP etc. Happy Restore!
@jaywillsoul Please add to the OP that this firmware will wipe the device.
Thanks again for the firmware!
Sent from my XT1528 using XDA Labs
I was able to un-brick my wife's Verizon Core Prime with this. Thank you for your time and effort, @jaywillsoul.
Donation sent.
Fail
I downloaded the firmware, began to flash and Odin wrote "FAIL", and the screen after turning on is "Software update failed. Your device didnt update successfully. Use the Verizon Software Repair Assistant on a computer to repare your device and complete the update." But the Verizon Software Repair Assistant after this can not find the phone.
Thank you for this wonderful gift to the underdeveloped Core Prime! :good: worked for me and I was able to root afterwards!
is that process unlock the sim card lock for Verizon
ty it work's. I can root now
Sorry to bump this thread, but will updating through recovery mode end up wiping all the data of the phone? (like pictures, and files)
I was dumb and didn't enable usb debugging before my phone got soft bricked, now it freezes on the carrier animation
My phone is a model SM-G360T1

You have the wrong model - this guide is for the G360V, not the G360T1. Sorry.
