quick question.
So I'm rooted and enjoying the freedom but have a few other questions.
Has anyone installed a custom launcher (Nova) yet? What has been your experience?
If I install a Nova launcher do I lose all the Sense widgets, etc? what are the downsides?

If you use BlinkFeed you can't get that on a custom launcher (no way that I know of at least) and you also can't use HTC widgets.

okay, thanks. I'm really not liking the square app folder icons. I'm so used to the round, stacked view. Is there anyway to change the folder previews with the stock launcher?

There not so bad if you make them transparent. I believe the stock launcher is the best. My opinion of course.

So i was thinking it might look really clean to be able to erase the app name under the icons and just have icons.... Maybe we can get a developer to work on this? Anyone else like this idea?
I think GOlauncher gives you that option.

You can do it for the homescreen icons with an app like Desktop Visualizer but doing it that way for ALL homescreen icons is a PITA too.
Adw ex does it.

Sense is not customizable, launchers are. If customizing and changing settings is a pia... well that's what the i*hone is for right ;-)
I recommend adw. You can make it look identical to sense if you like the look, and it has that option.

my rosie is modded to the t. transparent app drawer, my name on all apps bar, cyan text color. its not easy but possible. to remove the names under the apps you just change the text color value to #00000000. full transparency. you need a knowledge of apktool and decompiling and compiling

Did I add you have to be really smart?
Just saying sense is customizable. Once you know it it really doesn't take that much time or effort. The phone is designed to run sense. It just makes sense

I never said it wasn't customizable, but the OP doesn't want to have to do anything that is a "pita" and/or takes too much time.

All he did was ask if it could be done and if others would be interested. He likes the stock look of Sense and probably being able to use Sense widgets, which cannot be done with ADW or LP. Calm down there big boy, take some deep breaths, everything will be ok.

No, you are definitely not sol. Just use "better cut" or "desktop visualizer" and delete the names of the apps on your homescreens. Very simple and can be done in under 5 min.
I installed Nova Launcher today on my rooted, unlocked HOX (1.73) and it immediately asked me for root access. I denied it, but I have never seen a launcher do this before on any of my other rooted devices. Has anyone seen this before?
It's been a while since I've used it, but I think it needs root access to show widgets in the app drawer like stock.

You are correct, sir. It's tied to making widgets do things widgets shouldn't normally do.

No, it doesn't hurt to allow it. It let's you put widgets in dock bar, and folders in app drawer, and things like that.

If I made it sound like nova launcher did bad things I apologize. It didn't really hurt to deny root access but it definitely doesn't hurt to grant it either.

No problem. I'll remove it from the denied list and give it a go.
i have a stoopid question (happens both w/ Apex and Nova) i can't see to find and add like a large clock and such. i feel like a moron ;]
added; i mean when i press and hold on the home screen i do get the menu where i can choose widgets but no clocks there.. today has been very counter productive HOX wise ;(

Sense widgets, like the large clocks, are only available in the sense launcher. Try fancy widgets or hd widgets.

Does anyone know why all the icons and widgets seem small on the stock launcher? Like the margins are set to large. I've noticed this on pretty much all AOKP Roms, is there a way to fix it?

I have noticed this as well. It is just how Google designed the stock Android launcher, with large margins. I actually like the look of the smaller icons and widgets. However, Apex Launcher and Nova Launcher, as well as the included Trebuchet launcher in CM10 have options to change the margin sizes. The AOKP launcher does not have this setting.
Interesting, the galaxy nexus and nexus 4 both don't have this problem? I think it is just a AOKP thing, I just find it kind of weird and didn't know if I could edit some file to change the margins.
Thanks for the reply!

AOKP has both Nova Launcher and the stock (AOSP) launcher bundled. Choose whatever version you want when you first bootup, or if you want to change that now, go to Settings / Apps / Nova Launcher / Clear Defaults and then press the home button.
Hey rohan, yeah I knew that I was just wondering if the way the margins on the stock launcher on AOKP were suppose to be like that? They seem too large?
P.S. just tried out your 4.2.1 build, it seemed to be working great. Keep up the good work!

I bricked my phone last week because I used 990 software...oops. I got it all working and in the end I now have CM7 on here.
There is only one feature I really truly miss from my old phone (it was JB I think...) and that is being able to stack icons on the desktop/homescreen. It's why I tried to upgrade this phone in the first place. Are there any apps that imitate this feature which work on our phone?
You mean make folders on the home screen with more than one app in them? That's more of a launcher thing. Try Holo Launcher. That's a good one with a ICS/JB feel that supports folders.
