Battery Please add.. 02 cents - Verizon HTC One (M8)

I owned original One, but battery was horrible. I switched to G2 and battery is the best I've had. On m8 how is battery? Did they improve it? I work at a homeless shelter and sometimes work overnights. When I do I'm basically on wifi all night. G3 is coming out with same battery but bigger screen so I'm anticipating it to get less screen time.

There is probably at least 10 threads that already talk about battery life. But I'll give my 2 cents. I leave home at 9am and don't get back until midnight. With my previous phone, it would be dead by about 2pm (I'm a heavy user). With this phone, I've never once had to charge during the day, even when I'm working in basements with no signal at all. I've never gotten home at midnight with less than 30% battery.

ive had both the G2 and now the M8. I think the G2 is still better (mAh is higher) but very comparable. Unless you're cutting it close (<10% when you go to charge your G2), then the M8 will suffice for battery life.

Battery is amazing due to 801 chip. Beats my note 3. Read some reviews - they'll say battery life is amazing.

Mine had 4-5 hours on screen time. With the m8 I always get more than 5.

I start the day off at 100% and goto work for 8 hours. I get a 30 minute lunch and 15 minute break which I usually browse the news and websites. At the end of the day I only used 2%. My HTC ThunderBolt would of normally been around 45% remaining at this time. Recently I was stuck at family's and watched the latest FRANKIEonPCin1080p video and a couple JackFrags videos on youtube with a bunch of browsing. ~an hour and a half and used about 15-20% from 100.

I'm at 24% right now with 5h 11m screen-on time over LTE. I've been using it very heavily and I'm projecting a total screen on time of 6h 45m.
This is with power saver mode enabled which I completely recommend. This phone lasts equally as long (on power saver) as my GS3 did with the OEM 3000mah extended battery.
It's pretty good.

Bartery life.... how is it?

I have the g2 and the battery life is great. Blows my old vibrant off the planet.
THinking of getting the MT4G due to radio issues on the G2.
How is the call quality and battery life on the MT4G?
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
You should probably check out the other thread here in this section.
I came from the G2 as well with data and signal problems and floppy hinges. The battery is not as good as the G2 but not bad. I'm still waiting on my OTA update that is supposed to help the battery and some other issues.
I don't regret the change to MT4G
Thanks. I'll search for the link when I hit the computer. Rally like the g2 but man the radio is bad.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Even though the G2 has a smaller battery, the G2 will have better battery life because the CPU is clocked at 800 Mhz as opposed to the 1000 Mhz of the MT4G.
How's the call quality/radio?
First phone I can make it through a full day on with moderate/heavy use.. Buh bye vibrant... Better call quality I am told by sone people I have called...

I am seeing remarkably bad battery life. I am coming from the MyTouch 3G and that device lasted longer then the 4g.
Every six hours the device needs a charge.
I talked for 17 Mins and used it lightly this morning. Unplugged at 7:30 AM back on the charger at 1:30 PM. This has been the same way since I got the phone. I have also swapped the battery for a new one as well and got the same results. I cannot imagine that it matters but this is the purple device.
Perhaps I have a defective phone? Is that possible / likely?

Weird, while I'm not getting quite as bad a battery drain as you, I have noticed an increase since I've turned off any auto sync option that I don't require, which is pretty much all of them.
The first day I had my phone it was almost dead in ~12 hours with moderate/light usage... it's been lasting longer and longer every day since... yesterday i got ~22-24 hours out it i think and i charged it finally at like 15%. This wasn't the heaviest usage but i'd say it was at least medium as i didn't use it at all for about 5 hours but then I had it on wifi calling and using it for angry birds and stuff for quite a while later in the day.

My battery life is awful!

So I'm enjoying my overall experience with my Sensation but it's really not cutting it in the battery department. I've upgraded from the G1 and the battery life isn't any better. The G1 was great for a while but after being 2+ years old the battery would barely last a full day with minimal usage and every setting off, I could no longer take it. It became so frustrating I had to upgrade for mostly that reason, not to mention the lack of features, and the fact I've had the phone since launch lol. Needless to say, I feel like I'm having the same battery issues as before. For instance I took the phone off the charger this morning and started reading some post here on XDA via the app and after 1 hour and 36 minutes my battery life went from 100% to 67%. I love the phone and while yes battery life is important to me I almost refuse to handicap my phones full potential for it. What should I do?

Search here and in the Q/A forum about getting better battery life and what to expect out of your battery. There are a ton of discussions already with a lot of helpful information for you.
Remember if your device is new... it takes a number of discharge/recharge cycles before your battery gets good life.

plenty of battery threads already.. 1:36 with a 33% battery drain would extrapolate to >4.5 hours of display-ON time. Most ppl consider that pretty (or even VERY) good. If you are going to play the "won't handicap" card so soon, probably no hope for you except get some other phone for which it is easier to get a monster/fat battery.
I came from a G1 as well. I think battery life is MUCH better on the Sensation.

The only way to get through a whole day of moderate-heavy use with this phone (and most Android phones) without crippling it is to carry a spare battery or plug in the phone throughout the day when near AC power... Sad but true..

I'm with you. I can get 8 hours out of the phone if I only have 2 hours of on screen time. My average, with medium to heavy use, is 6 hours and change with 3 - 3 1/2 hours on screen time. And this is with the screen brightness down to 75%. There is no way there is 7 hours straight of on screen time with this thing IMO and from experience.
NOTE: I am piggy backing, but i am not sure if the person is referring to 7 hours on screen time or 7 hours in general.

I'm pasting a post I posted in another thread about my battery life:
Ok... I have a total of 3 OEM batteries. One that came with my phone and 2 other spares. The one that came with my phone is about 3 weeks old, My newest one is only 3 days old and the middle child one is about a week and a half old. I basically charge them fully then wait until it drains fully and turns off before switching the batteries.
Someone said that after a while battery life gets better. I am proof of that. When I first got my phone I was lucky if it lasted 8 hours and amazed if it lasted 10! Last night my 3 week old battery lasted over 14 hours with moderate use! The middle battery that's a week and a half old lasts about 10 with moderate use (same like the first, only getting about 8 in the beginning) The newest one (still going through the 5 charge conditioning cycle) only lasts about 6-7 hours tops.
I dont know if it helps(or hurts) but since I always have an extra battery with me I never half charge them(especially during the first 5 or 6 charges). I always will let it drain then switch
I moved from the HTC Evo 4G and batterylife is much much better with the sensation. Light to moderate use after a 12 hour day i have between 20 and 40 % left. I ordered 4 extra batteries and xtra chargers so i would have extra full batteries at home and at work but i havent needed them. I was so used to the evo that i wish i would've waited on ordering all the batteries... I just assumed it would be about the same...Way better than the evo though. I have friendstream (twitter and facebook) syncing every 3 hours, weather 3 hours and at unlock, mail/calender syncing.( no news, no tell htc, no android backup) i was amazingly surprised. yay sensation!

I have specifically held off from getting another battery cuz I wanted the original one to settle. Now that I have a decent idea of the life span I will look into a new one. I am not sure if I want to by the off brand 1800 one every is talking about or get raked over the coals for an HTC one. decisions...
here's what I've found after having the Sensation since day one. If you are at 2.5 hours of screen on time in the battery stats, chances are your battery is below 30%, and most likely below 20%, no matter what you were doing with the phone (barring constant video playback). I average about 2-3 hours of display on time each day, and I get about 14-16 hours consistently. I sync gmail, email and facebook, pulse and weather auto update. I use wifi and wifi calling constantly.
I set my screen brightness to about 40%, give or take.
I can live with this as it gets me from 5am when I go to work until when I go to bed, which is really all I expect.
I will look into the evo 3d battery though, as that seems like a logical replacement given its higher capacity and compatibility with the Sensation.

Traded: Tegra 3 One X for S4 One X ... WOW!

Disclaimer: This method may have been due to the fact that my device or digitizer (I'll explain further) was damaged or I had a lemon. But here is my story:
- Sold an unlocked 4S for $450
- Wanted to try out Android and hate Sammy devices...
- Decided to give HTC One X a try
- Didn't have an upgrade so had to buy an unlocked international version because it released earlier.
With my international HTC One X from Malaysia, I would barely squeeze out 2hrs of screen time, and would have to charge my device 2-3x a day, and have yellow light leakage and spots around the screen. The device would get hot and had screen flexing and sensitivity issues. Right out of the box it was glitchy and the OTA's didnt solve much. I went from ROM to ROM to ROM and battery saving apps to CPU controls for a solution. I would literally drop 2-3% every minute, and sometimes in a matter of 5 mins I would drop 8% battery. I did the built in Battery test and would get 90% after an hour and it would say batter health = good. All of this to no avail, I WAS FED UP!
I was sick of it and found someone who wanted an International One X and had an AT&T One X. He knew about the battery and screen issues but decided to trade anyway.
BOY OH BOY! The difference is night and day. It's been a few days and I have never been happier with a phone. I get close to 4 hrs of screen time on the same level of usage on one charge. 3-4 hrs of music, 1 hr web browsing, texting and phone calls all day, facebook/twitter 2-3 hrs. No heat issues and no dropoff in performance even with just 2 cores. NO LAG or random reboots at all. If anything the device feels faster! While in hoboken/nyc the other day I got 4G LTE (since AT&T doesnt have LTE all over jersey yet) and it was freaking amazing. Close to the speeds I get with my FiOS connection at home.
Anything with Nvidia in it or on it I've ever owned so far has been faulty and been a nightmare. Idk if its just my badluck or coincidence.
But thats my story. I talked to my engineer buddy and he said my phone deff had a bad digitizer/screen that was eating the battery unnecessarily.
Anyone with their thoughts?
Yea S4 is more power efficient than Tegra 3 the only thing it bests the S4 is in its graphical capabilities

This is awesome to hear. At first I was bummed they changed the processor but this story exemplifies why.
The only other gripe I have about AT&T's decision making is the storage. But what can you do? I don't listen to all of my music anyways.
Not to mention the wifi (squeeze test) crap.
Glad we have the less problem ridden version here.

I made the switch just as you did because battery life was terrible on the Tegra 3, due to a VERY outdated kernel and 40 nm?? whereas I believe the Snapdragon S4 is at 28 nm and a more recent kernel. That really does make a huge difference. I usually just text, fb, and browse the web and with auto-brightness, auto-sync and widgets on I get ~ 4 hours of use whereas on the Tegra 3 I got about < 2 hours. I was just as fed up and disappointed as you were.
Re: battery, I will say this:
Only charge it on the charger it came with. Charged it s couple time on my Touchpad charger, and while it appears to charge up faster, the battery will "drain" faster.
I haven't even opened the charger it came with >_<
The S4 is pretty superior in every single way besides gaming, but even then the S4 is pretty damn awesome haha.

Not sure I understand how that would be possible. If the battery is fully charged why would it drain any faster if it was charged by a different charging method?

My perception just from observing the international One X forum, is that the Tegra 3 SoC on the international versions is glitchy as hell, causing various serious issues, and that NVIDIA is notorious for being slow to fix these sorts of bugs.

I have been getting 4 hours of screen time since I got my one X on Saturday. Pretty consistently actually. Usually right at 4 and a half. I use it sporadically at work, usually 2 hours worth by the end of the day.
Then when I get home I do pretty much the same thing, I browse XDA while I wait for games to load on PS3 or Vita.
I do not stream music or anything.
Sync files with dropbox.
Wifi typically on.
Screen with auto brightness enabled.
Minimal game play (I have a PS Vita for that but I occasionally succumb to Words or Temple Run)
My idle time can go up pretty high if I so choose but I will only get the 4.5 hour screen time on auto. Which is good for me since that's what I got on my Atrix with the brightness at minimum most of the time

Best I ever saw was 3.5 hrs screen on time by the time I was down to 50%. Probably would have gotten 6+ hours if I kept it going. That was with very heavy internet/FB/xda over a 6 hour period.

I'm getting so frustrated that I can't get a One X with that battery life.
_MetalHead_ said:
Best I ever saw was 3.5 hrs screen on time by the time I was down to 50%. Probably would have gotten 6+ hours if I kept it going. That was with very heavy internet/FB/xda over a 6 hour period.

Yeah, it was hard to go from such great battery to the other HOX I returned the other day that would MAYBE pull an hour screen time. Here's hoping that this new one I got today will be like my first one.

I wanna go back and test what I had on the old One X but I don't remember if it was 1.85 rooted or cleanrom 2.1.

I'm getting 2 to 3 hours screen on time with around 15hrs off charger and my battery will be at about 15%. It definitely does the job for me!
My acer a500 and my GTX680 card have both been fantastic I guess I got lucky with my nvidia stuff.

Are you happy with your nexus 5

So I've had all latest android phone that have come out in the past year or so and I'm still not satisfied. Some phones like the HTC one and galaxy note 3 I've gotten multiple times. I've gone as extreme as the Sony xperia Z ultra. Thinking about getting the nexus 5 now. Who's happy or unhappy? What are your reasons for either? How do you feel about the phones battery for a heavy Internet user? How's the screen and camera? One thing I'm not concerned about is software as I like and simple device.

UI can get 11hrs and 4 and half hours of sot with hspa+ on constantly. Not the best but decent enough for me. What i really like about this phone is the dev support.

My battery lasts fairly well, but not as good as the Galaxy S4 did as far as browsing the internet a lot.

my suggestion is to stop being so picky as there is no such thing as perfection.
I have a couple gripes with it but overall I'm satisfied. It's fast, has great battery life, good call quality, etc.. But it's a pretty plain design, I really don't like the front of it- it kinda feels unfinished to me. Also, the screen, while accurate, seems absolutely washed out compared to other phones. But everything else is good. Have you tried the Moto X? I have that as well and I prefer it to the N5. Both are great phones but the X is something special. I had the HTC One and GS4 before it, and I like it the best out of all of them.
The battery is awful and i've been charged 2 times a day.
Display time is over 2to max 3hours with H+
And i sold it and buy it a Lg g2 mmm really good battery estimated to 4-6 hours display
sory for my english.

I ger around 5 hrs. screenontime on my N5
Do you like custom roms? Thats what the N5 is for. Modifying the heck out of your device. Stock + GEL is boring and borderline bloatware. If you weren't happy with the Note 3, then I am not sure if you will like this. I would probably have bought a Note 3 over this if it wasn't hundreds of dollars more.
N5 Good for:
- AOSP Roms
- Modifying Software
- Low memory consumption
- Performance
N5 has middle-of-the-road:
- Screen
- Camera
- Battery life
- Build quality
- Speaker
- Stock software features

Was only getting 3hrs screen on time until I switched to franco kernel and now I am getting around 5hrs sot. Google always does a bad job with their stock kernels.
I love my nexus but really miss the battery of my note 2. I am considering getting a note 3 because of it.
I've installed Franco kernel so I'll wait and see how it goes.

I love my nexus 5, I'm coming from a blackberry bold so it was quite a big upgrade but I've had no problems with it. The only thing I'm not a fan of is if playing games the battery does drain pretty quick. But this is because of how much a power house the Nexus 5 actually is. I have bought an external battery pack (PNY 5200mAh) which gives me 1 full charge so sometimes i can go 2.5 days without having to charge through the wall.
I'm running:
ROM: Cataclysm http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2518660
Kernel: Franco http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2508284

The main battery killer is the screen, not the processor. If we had a tiny screen then you'd see how much more the battery last.

I'd have to agree with most that the battery is the worst thing about this phone. I average about 3.5-5 hours depending SOT. I play ingress often, so that is the main battery killer, even when I owned the GS3. If you like simple, easy to use and modify devices, this is the one. Otherwise, get something else.
Best battery I've ever had. 3.5-5 SoT is good. Can't believe people complain the nexus doesn't incorporate alien technology

Currently I'm very happy with my N5 :good:
At the beginning I was dissatisfied with battery, but now especially after flashing franco kernel evereything is just fine.
I was happy with my N4 battery life as I'm not scared of topping off a charge when around one.
I guess I'm the only one that has access to power.
So anyhow, my N5 battery life does me well.
To those that no longer own the phone, but continue to post bad about it, what is your deal??
Move on, its like your stalking your ex, or as most call it, trolling.
Which is largely unchecked here lately.

I actually went in this thread expecting you to have commented. Anyway, on topic: I am happy with it. I don't know what people do to get such great battery. I get about 3 hours at most and that's rare. Usually I'm under 2 hours of SOT. But that's fine for me. I have an external battery for abnormal days. I love the speed of the device. It does everything with no lag or stutter and I value that a lot. I would say that is the biggest pro of the device so if you value that then go for it.

[Q] Nexus 5 battery life

im new to this website and im sort of a noob in modding, but i heard people on xda are pros and can give me an inside opinion. i wanna buy a new phone and its either the lg g2 or nexus 5 for me. im a moderate user still in high school so you could say my phone is off for a good amount of time. i was set for the LG G2 but then after some good research i heard about all the problems with the touchscreen sensitivity becoming whacky and all multiple reports of terrible lag and stutter, i come from samsung and i despise lag the suffering i had with their devices was enough. now the main selling point for the g2 is the battery life, which i also heard can be inconsistent. my question goes out to nexus 5 users, as i need someone with personal experience. i use my phone when i come back from school around 4pm for 1-2 hours then its off until about 11 where i use it for maybe a max of 2.5 mainly facebook, whatsapp, bbm and sort of a lot of youtube. will the battery do me good? and how long will it last? I really need some help. PS. they're almost the same price where i am so i dont want comparisons of "its good enough for 350" i need honest(with screenshots if available) performance opinions. i could really use some help guys please
You're good to go.
Check the battery results thread for specifics but 3 hours SoT is about the minimum you can expect without touching anything.

15 hrs. off the charger and 3 hrs. screenontime for me, stock/not rooted.
I'm rooted rommed and I usually get throughout the whole day easy with a lot of instagram group me and heavy texting . I'm a college student and I text a lot I get through the day

i wont have any mods on my phone cause i really dont want to take a risk of ruining my phone, so you think a nexus 5 would do well (1-1.5 days maybe) battery wise? or should i go with the G2?

Why?
If you are a heavy user then I would recommend getting the G2 instead, the battery life gap is just day and night in terms of difference. As for the stutters even N5 is not immune to that. For the touch screen issues, I have several friends who have the G2 and NONE of them have the issue/
I'm sorry, but does no one own a charger? It will last you the whole day. That's all that is needed. Put it back on the charger when you go to bed, Take it off the charger when you wake up.

how do different you think it is? like you have the n5 how much juice you get out of it and are you satisfied? as for the stutter, i heard a lot of stories about deteriorating performance and the ram being taken up more than 1.3/2 out of the 2 gigs available. i really cant stand lag which is my im tempted by the n5. im not really a heavy user maybe moderate-heavy, but i do go out on a lot of days and i have a trip this summer, so i need something that wouldnt fail me midday

Thank you!!
"I can keep it on for 2 days straight oh wowee!". I don't get why people want it to last forever, simply charge it overnight. Yes, the nexus will probably last a full day depending on how you use it, but even if you can't, whack it on a charger for 30 mins and you're good to go till you can fully charge it before bed. The charging speed is amazing on this thing, so if you're at 5% before the day ends, top it up, and in 10 mins and you'll have 20% ready for the rest of the day.
Battery lasts all day = Good, usable battery.

Depends on the day but for heavy use its not as good as the G2, both devices have their own set of stuttering events. I dont even know why the N5 has a lot of home screen redraw when there is over 600mb of free RAM.
It can't compete with the G2's huge battery but compared to phones with similar sized batteries it is extremely efficient.

It is much more than the 3000mah battery...it also has G ram for the screen which decreases the screen power consumption by almost 30% according to lg even after features such as knock on and also the kernel of G2 must have been optimized to maximise its battery life
That is why it is leads ahead off phones which have same mah battery.
I just moved from a G2 to N5.
When I got my G2 it would last almost 2 days, after a few months it would barely last over 1. I Tried other ROMs modded stock ROMs and just couldn't get the battery back up to where it was. The other day it fell down a flight of stairs and I had to replace it anyway so I got the N5, which so far I like the battery on. I don't expect it to be as good as the G2 originally was, but so far its doing great for me.

Think I heard N5 has the same "G Ram" they just don't advertise it. It also has the same 20% more efficient LTE operation as the G2 and is more efficient than other 2300 and even 2600 mAh phones.
