Accidental deletion - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

While playing around with setting wallpapers I must have accidentally deleted the default wallpapers that came with the Nexus 5.
I know there are a gazillion other wallpapers out there but I would like to regain the default ones.
Anyone know
1. In which folder they are normally kept? (I am rooted)
2. How to redownload them?
Thanks.

Is that what you need?

You are wonderful. Exactly what I was looking for.
Thanks.

No problem

They're built into the launcher so you can't have deleted them. If you're using a different launcher, they may not be available however.

First off all the are default in launcher you cant delete them.
Try to extract it from GoogleHome.apk

That is very interesting. I don't remember deleting them but just assumed I must have.
Actually I use the Nova launcher and suddenly discovered I couldn't find them anymore. Maybe the latest Nova update made them inaccessible. Or maybe some setting (xprivacy?) made them inaccessible. Don't know. I didn't think I had deleted them.

Figured it out.
The built-in launcher is no longer available as an option when I click on home. I must have become disabled when I froze something else.
Here are the apps I disabled. Wonder which one messed up the default launcher.
Google search, hangouts, HP print service, iWnn (whatever that is), nfc , wallet, Korean and pinyin keyboards, play books, play movies, play music, play newstand, Google search, cloud print, face unlock, Google Hindi.

They're available to me I'm Nova so it's not an update to that

It's probably from Google Search being disabled. that needs to be enabled to access the new Google Launcher, so it probably disables them.

It was indeed Google search. I reenabled it and now the default launcher and wallpapers are back.
Interesting.

Play Store adds icon to desktop (with option off)

I'm using Cleanrom and Nova launcher. Lately Play Store has been adding icons to the desktop every time I install an app. I have the "auto add widgets" option turned off and I don't think it had been doing this before. I tried toggling that option too. Any ideas?
There is an independent option in Nova - check Nova Settings - New Apps, they added this pretty recently.

thanks for that...I thought Google had done an Apple and removed a feature cause its 'not how you're supposed to do it'.
Ruddy annoying having new app icons appear all over the place.

Play store shortcut?

Just wanting to confirm that there's no shortcut to the play store built into the launcher anywhere? I've had a look around and there doesn't seem to be one. It seems like quite a regression to me having to find it in the app drawer or have it on the home screen, unless I'm missing something?
Yeah can confirm. I believe it has to do with decoupling the play store from the core of android, giving better security / control over app installation. Don't have to hunt very far

Will Google features work with another launcher?

Thinking of installing Nova launcher when my phone ships, but was wondering if features like "OK Google.." and searching online for numbers within the phone app would still work?
Also, has anyone with a Nexus 5 found a way to hide apps in the app drawer you don't want there, or at least make a folder? I really want to use the stock launcher, and it baffles me Google leaves out basic functionality to sort and organize your apps... if anyone found a way please let me know, or if root can fix this somehow. Thanks.
You'd have to wait for Kevin to put similar features if he decides to assuming he can mimic the new launcher. I think the new launcher is closed source.. maybe we'll get a kernel soon with always listening

For hiding the apps part if you want to hide one of the stock apps you can simply disable it in the settings? (Settings > apps)

Launcher options?

Anybody know of any launchers out there that integrate Google Now? I'd like to customize, but I like saying OK, Google (as cheesy as that sounds)

Don't think it's gonna happen.
KK Launcher is the only launcher I have seen to incorporate Google Now in any way. It launches Google Now when you scroll all the way to the left, but that's it.

As long as you keep the stock setting of swiping up on the home key to access Google Now, you're really only talking about a second or two to access the "Ok Google" feature.
Additionally, if you'd like to have the mic aware and listening constantly, I'd suggest the XDA link below. This way, you can have that feature available regardless of which launcher you're running.

From what I read, it's only the stock launcher that can have the active listening.
Only reason I read about this was because I googled why it stopped once I installed Nova Launcher.

Widget deletion

Anyone had any success in removing widgets from their phones? I was able to do it on my Samsung Galaxy Tab3 10.1 but cannot do it on the Moto 4g LTE. These widgets are not in the Setting/App section. They must reside somewhere in the phone. I have ES File on my phone so if I can find the directory I should be able to remove them.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
Motorola doesn't have 100+ extra widgets as separate apps like Samsung does, they are just the widgets of your normal apps (like calendar, browser, gmail, hangout, etc... You can't remove them from a file, but you can do it with autostarts (it's an app, look for it in play store, has a car icon, and requires root)

Yeah, I was coming to the opinion that this was not going to be as easy as the Samsung Widgets. OK, thanks. I will check out autostarts.
