Hello,
I've been running more than one ROM on SGSIII and I can confirm that CM10 (build 8/28) provides full service globally (data + calls)... Beans ROM and CleanROM worked for calls only since there was no simple way to edit APNs, they also had problems with com.android.phone, its was FC.
I flashed CM10 build 8/25, I got data but whenever I make or receive a call the phone freezes. Yesterday I flash build 8/28, and everything is working fine on it. I can make and receive calls normally, and I can use 3G as well.
Just wanted to let you know in case you want to use the phone on a network other than Verizon and you don't want to go through all the steps in the Development Section.

Hi,
You said you can use 3G as well, would you mind which other (Non-Verizon) GSM carrier you used and were able to get 3G working? Was it a US domestic carrier or a foreign carrier?
Thank you
Wish I had this phone in Nov. Just back in May from a westpac cruise

Yeah, what provider's SIM are you using? Is it AT&T or foreign? Also, did you need to change APN or it automatically pulled it in? Exactly what ROM are you using?
For real mayne let's get some more info!
I mean, I've been able to use T-Mobile and AT&T's SIMs in my Verizon GS3 since day one, stock TouchWiz, and now CM10, BUT NO DATA. I've always been able to make calls and text messages, but you can't touch the APN settings, so no data. Am I missing something? How did you get data to flow?
I'm using it in Lebanon, specifically using MTC Touch network. It is GSM and the frequency I believe is 850. I read on some Lebanese forums that they use 2100 as 3G frequency.
I'm using CM10 build 8/28, on previous builds, data worked but on calls the phone used to crash. On 8/28 it is working perfectly. It just doesnt show the signal strength in the notification bar.
I didnt even have to update the APN, they were pulled automatically.

Oh wow! So a foreign SIM will pull in the APN settings! My AT&T and T-Mobile will get me EDGE where it says UMTS. But in your case the signal is not reading at the notification bar, and it lists Verizon Wireless.
This means SGS3 is already unlocked for global carriers!
I assume the future update will just fix the signal reading and allow us to change the APN.
Thanks for your post!
no it is not unlocked, it didnt work on stock. CM10 unlocks it.

On stock Voice and SMS was also unlocked on domestic. With CM10 I get the same voice and sms. Data is a no go except for international carriers. I have 08/28 build and still no data for me.
If it is anything like the Rezound, it comes SIM unlocked from the factory, but the stock TW framekwork may not support the full GSM capabilities yet. CM10 doesn't sim unlock it, it just adds the missing code.
What part of lebanon are you from? im From tripoli myself, have you tested this on alfa at all?. id like to know if i can use my phone when im there next month I have an alfa sim tho.

it should work on alfa as well, I only tried with mtc in Beirut.
Did you have to make any changes to the phone settings or give unlock codes? or was it simply swapping the SIM card? I'm looking to do this on future travels to south America. For example looking to work on Movistar Venezuela (GSM 850 and HSDPA 1900
Hi, did signal bar work at your end?
I flashed the CM10 M2 recently but signal bar appeared blank(so signal at all), and -120dB at status in settings (both EDGE/HSPA/GSM)
Even though I can dial someone, strange.

Try CleanROM, install APN Manager Pro and convert it to system app in Titanium Backup, and you're ready to go to edit your APN settings.

If you plan to use a GSM SIM flash the AT&T CM10 version. You have to change the name of the device from d2att to d2vzw in the install script or CWM won't let you flash it.

What do these screenshots show. Mine says the same in Texas.
For some reason I cannot get LTE to work at all on CM10. I've done everything and it still wont work at all. I tried reverting back to stock rom, and when I did, LTE worked. So I thought if I went back to CM10 from stock it would resolve the issue, but it did not. I've checked my APNs and I cannot change the preferred network mode and i tried *#*#info#*#* and i can't change anything there to anything that has LTE on it. I'm not sure if it's just a problem with the ROM or what, but I've done plenty of researched, searched all the forums, and can't find anything that will fix.
Additional information:
Im in ATT
I've tried all the radios
and I AM in an LTE area.

Ok, try different apn. Which cm10 are you trying to use?
Does the problem happen on other ROMs? I'm not saying to use a different ROM, just saying that if it doesn't happen on, say, AOKP or Orthus (both CM-based), it's probably an issue with how CM10 is configured on your phone.
If you go into network operators (settings -network)and select att it will allow to change modes.

Haha yeah most of the time this setting is overlooked and this option enables you to turn off LTE if you want (which you don't have to have a RAT unlocked modem as presumed) and if you go to *#*#4636#*#* on your dialer you can have it set to LTE only as well.

I actually have another problem now, after a reboot, it doesn't show any options for me to choose under available networks?
it came back after a few tries but then went away again, it's not consistently there to choose.
Does it show a searching animation?

I have the exact same issues. I've done everything on this post plus done all the research as well. For my problem whenever I enter an LTE area my data service completely drops for about 5 seconds and then when it connects it only shows HSPA+. I have never been able to pick up LTE. When I was on CM9.1 I had no issues at all. LTE connected with no issues. So is this a CM10 issue or a phone issue?
try this, might help, might not, make a backup, if you have more than one apn, remove all apn's except your lte apn(ATT Pta, for rogers :ltemobile), restart phone
edit: of course make sure it was set to the lte apn in the first place, if it was and still have probs, do above procedure if you have more than one apn

For some reason my APN was not set to the lte one (ATT Pta). I changed it to that. Hopefully that fixes my problem. Thanks for the help!
I have a slightly different problem. I am running the latest cm10 nightly and notice that any time I get lucky and go into a 4g coverage area I can only make phone calls. No data transfers at all. I have my APN set to ATT LTE pta which I assumed is the right selection. Im normally in a A3g(HSPA)~700-17 coverage area. Is this the wrong APN to use?

Do you automatically switch back and fort from 3 to 4g with that APN setting when you move around without losing data capability?

Yup. I have HSPA/HSPA+ around my house but close to work I have LTE. No problem with switching or losing data connection when I go from HSPA to LTE. Just double check your APN settings. There might be a typo or some missing field. Or you can create a new APN for lte and use that as your default.

So here is what I am looking for... i have a Verizon SCH-i535, and what I am looking for is someone who has flashed the stock tmobile rom and changed the bands within the phone its self using the hidden menu (netmonitor app) to see if they can get more than just edge data... I have it flashed to AT&T right now and am using a friends T-mobile sim card that we cut down to fit into the SCH-i535 GS3... it seemed to sync with the towers and get mms.. text.. calls... and internet... just not 3g... I would like to know if someone has found a fix to this issue...
Thanks for your time.
Why not just flash the Verizon Jellybean Rom (Cleanrom or Jellywiz) since global mode was enabled in that Rom? Then drop your tmo sim in.

You know I had not thought about using the global mode on verizon.. I will have to give that a try... do you know if that will allow for 3g on tmobile?
Useful thread so far, but I have a several questions.
I currently have a Verizon Galaxy S3 SGH-i535 with a T-Mobile prepaid sim card (unlimited everything), I can call and text, but cannot get any network access.
I'm currently running Clean Rom 5, settings on Global. Is there any way I can enable data, preferred 3G? [due to that T-Mobile will get 4G on Verizon phones next month).
On CM10, I get Edge and can receive text, but cannot send text. Tried APN settings, etc. Is there a fix for this?
I have tried everything, but no luck. Any suggestions is appreciative

So what I did is i unlocked the bootloader... rooted it... and then flashed the AT&T stock rom on it and then plugged in the TMO sim card and then changed the bands to GSM auto. and it picked up edge... I was able to get access to the network with data... but the only catch was that it was slow as hell... as it was only edge. I am still working on programming to get the i535 on the tmobile bands... thus far I have not been able to get the phone on 4g or even 3g yet... I will keep you updated though.

have you tried using the hidden menu in the dial pad at all??
There is an app out there that will get access to the menu and allow you to change everything in the phone... but be very careful with this app as it can and will brick your phone if you do not know what you are doing with the app..
Netmonitor --> look for this on the google play store
To change the bands to at least get data on the phone, follow the instructions below:
1. install Netmonitor on the S3
2. open the app
3. hit the menu button
4. select field test
5.select UMTS
6. Select DEBUG SCREEN
7. Select PHONE CONTROL
8. Select NETWORK CONTROL
9. select BAND SELECTION
10. Select either AUTOMATIC or GSM Band Preference
* if you choose automatic the phone will look at the sim card and go from there to get the phone on the network to get data on the phone.
11. Select GSM ALL
This is the thread that I am following at the moment to get the phone on HSPA+ or 3G.. If you have anymore questions then please let me know I will do my best to help you out.

Yeah, but you have a decent signal and you can make a call.
However, text and data isn't good, and I guess this is related to 'Allow GSM data' and SMS Guards functions in the settings, which this cspire rom is missing

So are you saying on the stock ROM you don't have decent signal which doesn't allow you to make a phone call....?
I don't understand why you're even trying to flash this C-Spire ROM.
What I'm trying to do is just to try out different ROM while we don't have CM10 or ASOP.
I can't use tethering on GSM modded photon Q, and I suspect this is related to the ROM-specific glitch...
The certain part of ROM might be holding off data flow.
I wish we had any custom ROM daily driver.

apnconf is very solid in C-spire. Already there. the one thing different from Sprint photon Q.
Something is disabled in deep level, and sprint setup allows us to turn on, and cspire don't.
I even exchanged phone.apk, and mobile internet settings got changed a little bit, but still no option for GSM data.
Hi, did anyone tried to flash c-spire photon q with sprint firmware (using RDS lite)?
They`re both xt897 so it should work...
I have an issue with my One.
When on WiFi, my phone sometimes disconnects from the normal mobile network - and I don't mean data transfer, I mean that people are unable to call me.
What's irritating, my signal strength is reported as usual, stating that it's connected and with great signal strength. I'm doing it in the center of the city, so the carrier signal is not an issue.
After I disconnect from WiFi, normal connection gets back to normal (sometimes I see a little blink of no signal strength).
This is a deal breaker for me! I mean - my phone does not receive phone calls and I am not even aware of that, because the signal strength indicator shows max.
This has happened three times already (or more, and I am not aware), since Friday.
I have rooted the phone exactly according to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2788632 - no other modifications.
Could use some help... Search yielded no results, I don't even know the tools I should be using to troubleshoot that (logcat?).
[EDIT]: Can't really tell if WiFi is the actual issue, but I suppose so. It only happened on WiFi, and with synchronization enabled it might realize the loss of connection and notify about it.

I have filed a bug here: https://jira.cyanogenmod.org/browse/BACON-466
After some research I've found some additional info, that it's a matter of having both WiFi and LTE turned on (thus I have changed the topic of this thread).
There was a workaround for Nexus 5 described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/tutorial-missed-calls-workaround-t2801654
And a discussion on Google forums, link in the comments of my bug.
I believe that it would be nice if someone could verify it. People reported that it happened on US T-MOBILE, but not on AT&T. I believe that Intelli3g solution posted in Nexus thread would work here as well.
