you will need to port from a device that comes with exactly same hardware as your Xperia J,and change some of the files

Hello everyone, as the title, I would like to know if there is a way, guides, etc... to learn how to build a rom for htc sensation for a guy like me who has not taken courses in computer engineering.
Or if it is too difficult to develop a rom?
thanks in advance
you should use google imho but
for example
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_H4AlQaNa0
also it depend on what u mean bey development, u can easely set up a rom kitchen to create custom ROM-s ( others rom with custom apps ), but actual development, like get the wifi working, or throw a kernel throttler together, need some c or java knowledge.

Swyped From My Sensation.
hey ace+'s
this is the a jb discussion thread for ace plus
reserved
well im discussing 1st here , to inspire some noobs to make roms
well adding features is secondary , but cooking a rom must be known for that i advice the guide given by lokesh it would help every noob
porting is later but you should know to cook rom from kitchen
I thought S7500's was the same case as S5830's regarding the "L" thing...
In S5830L it means it's distributed in Latin America, but hardware is the same as S5830. The official CM for Galaxy Ace (cooper) is for S5830. I still have S5830L, installed CM on it and it worked. Only thing is, it changed the device name from S5830L to S5830. And also I asked that because since I live in Latin America the only Ace Plus I can get is S7500L.
Are you actually porting from Xperia instead of building?
And where can I find the S7500L kernel repository you ask?
thats change in build.prop u can make again L
and without kernel mods it may work on ur mob
So, if this ends working all, can you make one for S7500L? Or can I just use the current one one for L?

roms is to be modded little
it may take time 1-2 months
as im having final exams on 22nd of this month
and my mates are preparing custom roms for you all
be satisfied still with stock based custom roms
a new rom named IMAGINIX (based on xperia is coming)

hey i said 100 times im releasing a rom based like xperia
you get me huuuh
its not cm10
cm10 later will take much time
update im taking a risk im gonna create a kernel that has posiibility to boot as well as brick
will update again in 2days
Since Mini 2 is running on the same chip, the kernel for Mini 2 is also compatible with Ace Plus. I just needs an updated defconfig.
Someone on Ace Plus do:
Code:
adb pull /proc/config.gz
Upload the file somewhere and post the link here. I will make a defconfig so you can build kernel.
ohh thanx bro
wait for 2 days
as my modem is off
n i cybercafe doesnt have even a single pc with ubuntu

noo
What "official sources" do you need in order for CM10 kernel to support overclocking? (I could use my time to look for it since I'm just a useless user....)
That'd be an almost imperative feature, and if you say "make it yourself and f*** off", well, sorry for not being developers like you (registration on this site should be restricted to dev-only...); or also that's why you *are* the devs and are announcing this possible work so we are indeed allowed to expect things from you...
Or, sorry for not being A D U L T devs like you. I can't express what I think about most of adults (most, not all) here because of the forum rules......
Thanks.

well overclocking is possible
we will look into it later first we are trying making kernel stable
and control yoour self
he asked will the 1st versio support oc
thats not possible because we want to boot perfectly (thats possible when we make a kernel with no tweaks and few mods)
I have a small question for you devs out there.
When porting a ROM, (say CM or PA or PAC etc..) on what basis do you decide the device from where you're gonna port? I mean, for example, lets take the case of my Xperia E. If I want to port a ROM to it, a ROM that is available for, say Xperia J and Xperia Tipo. Which device's ROM should I go for?
Theoretically, I should use the Tipo ROM cuz its MDPI, right? But practically, what runs on J (HDPI) has more chances of running on E (MDPI). But then, J and E have massively different DPI. But then again, what could exactly go wrong if don't resize (each and every 9.png in each and every apk) it to MDPI? I mean, does it matter?
I hope you understand my uhmm.. dilemma.
P.S : I don't mean only Xperia devices, the above example was hypothetical. I just want to know what to look for when choosing the ROM.
Regards,
KDB
Im not a rom porter, but i think u should use J as ur port rom.
Also u dont need to resize system apps, just need to resize framework thingy.
That all is just my theory. idk if its true.
Sent from my Xperia Miro using xda premium
Developers do not port roms. Ever!
Only copy/paste themers and the like that plague this forum with their rubbish roms do ports.
If you want to learn to compile roms then learn the correct way, compile from source. No point in learning rubbish.

Hope you will do something that a real developer will do for E.

@KDB223 great going bro... Well ask @lozohcum hocum about it.. He does great ports..

I think a Tipo base would be best. A similar processor + the same screen is better than the same processor + a completely different screen.
Do some research. Find device with same base - processor, screen size, ARM arch, camera, msm base
Here is the example:
Xperia J + Huawei 8818
According to GSM Arena, the Xperia Tipo has the Qualcomm MSM7225AA chipset while the Xperia E has the Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon chipset, and the Xperia J with a Qualcomm MSM7227A Snapdragon too.
Judging by these, the Xperia J and Xperia E seem similar, but, as rightly said by @NSDCars5 , they have massive differences in resolution.
And the chipset of Tipo and E seem pretty similar to me...what do you think @lozohcum ?? (I didn't quite get what you meant by "msm base" )
Hey, the Samsung Galaxy Ace Plus has the exact same chipset, screen size and RAM as the E. Only the camera is slightly better (5MP with flash). Yeah, not an Xperia, but maybe we can port from that?

Why? What's wrong with Samsung?
Don't port from samsung devices. Samsung sucks and can brick your phone.
Try to port a simple rom (try with ShenduOS, it's not hard to port it) from J to E and see if it works, do the same with Tipo.
But I think Huawei 8818 is better option for E, compare it to E

I find the Huawei to me more like the J (7227A, HDPI).
Miro can also be a good base, right?
Can anybody tell me, what exactly is wrong with Samsung?

You just made that up. Pure fabrication and no truth to it at all. It's no different to porting from any other manufacturer.
Well I think @lozohcum has good porting experience and he wouldn't lie.. So there must be something.. Although I don't exactly know..
thank you......

Samsung has different Phone.apk bools (settings) which may lock your phone. (this is why I wrote tutorial about correct way of porting to prevent sim locking).
And we aren't always able to change these settings because of popular error while recompling phone.apk from various roms.

Stop your abusive way of trating other people, it's annoying that you think you're smarter and better than other people because you are not.

Let the man talk abusive and offensive if he wants. Lets just ignore him. We're to good to respond to his malicous talk. Plus it's almost new year(at my country at least). Time to be joyous and forgiving.
Perhaps time to go on-topic?
Anyway, happy new year.
Hmmmm...actually porting HDPI rom to MDPI rom is quite easy...HDPI rom work fine in MDPI devices, you just have to edit/resize the app icon to fit on MDPI devices...the system UI, the framework will work find without so much editing....the main important on porting rom is the Dev files...that is what going to make your rom working properly or not...

For this, I thank you. Finally I get an explanation.
Does this mean that other manufacturers (say, LG) have same booleans as us? Just curious.
