Don't ask me what I did, but I went to go flash another ROM so I booted back into recovery and up came TWRP. This is after I flashed PhilZ with Flashify. I sorted it out but just wanted to let you guys know.

Just installed to check this out.
I tried using the Install option to see if I could get to zip files on my external SD card. Lists SDcard1. That doesn't jive with what I've observed with Root Explorer (which lists SDcard2).
Tried using SDcard1 and it just seemed to hang.
I feel I need to ask if the M8's mount points and names are correctly implemented. I've read they are not the same as for the M7 and the lists I've seen for the two do differ.
Am I missing something?
Thanks.

Hmm. That's odd. I just rebooted to check in recovery myself and it work perfectly fine. Tell me what happens when you do this. Goto Install Zip - Install from SD - and select sdcard1. If it 'hangs' touch the screen. Is there still vibration feedback?

Hi folks!
I'm getting a Xoom next week (a little late, but better late than never!) so I'm new to Xoom related topics.
I took this weekend to read as much as I can about the device, methods and options available for it. And I got very impressed, there's a lot of stuff, which is a good thing!
But one thing in special got my attention: the recoveries available here.
I did not dig up that much on the forum, so I just found this two:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1235170
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074979
The first one is based on ClockworkMod 5.0.2.8, and the last one, as far as I understood, is based on ClockworkMod 3.2.0.0.
I know this is a very particular choice of the developer, basing his(hers) work on whatever he(she) sees fit, but here comes my question:
Why no one mention this option here: http://download.clockworkmod.com/recoveries/recovery-clockwork-5.8.3.1-wingray.img ???
I got this link from CyanogemMod wiki: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Motorola_Xoom_(Wi-Fi):_Full_Update_Guide
And looking at the numbers I can tell the first two options are very outdated... Someone ever used this 5.8.3.1 version?? It has any known issues?? Less features??
Maybe I'm being stupid by asking these questions, but I prefer not to be in doubt.
Thanks in advance!
look also TWRP recovery
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1782235
Thanks! Seems very nice!
But I'm really curious about the official ClockworkMod recovery that I mentioned.
I've used the official CWM for xoom and it really sucks compared to some other options we have. It is good but there isn't an option for installing from internal SD card and nandroids to internal SD card. The font is much bigger and more scrolling is needed.
I personally think Team Rogues touch recovery is best, I use that permanently.
Team EOS have a later version here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1604014
TWRP personally I hate, maybe we got off on a bad foot but I really dislike the interface and the way it works.
Give them all a flash and see what suits you, it's relatively easy to switch between them so it's not a hassle.
This is what I want: some opinions about them. Thanks!
Team Rogue's seems very nice indeed! I'm very inclined to use that.
In this link you sent me there are some big letters saying it's depreciated and tells us to use TWRP instead, which is very nice too!
Don't use the official CWM as they aren't optimized for the Xoom and don't have external capabilities. Stick with either the current EOS or Rogue recovery. Imo TWRP is the best because it allows you to compress backups and flash multiple zips at once. It is also a full gui and therefore easier to navigate. Lastly it incorporates a file manager into the recovery, CWM doesn't have that. You can also look the screen while in TWRP to prevent accidental execution of commands.

That's very nice, man! Thanks a lot! My decision is getting tougher..
Sent from my ST25a using xda premium
The fact that Team EOSs recovery is depreciated doesn't mean it doesn't work, it works perfectly and is still a great recovery. It's just no longer maintained/updated

First I got really scared when I first entered stock recovery and only the lying Android with the red triangle with a black exclamation mark appeared with no options at all! I search for this to find that this is how stock recovery looks like.. It's not an error.
Then I pressed Vol up + Power to reboot my device. No options appeared...
I installed Tiamat's 3.2.0.0 rc4 recovery via command line. Apparently everything went good, but when I adb reboot recovery, I get the same lying Android screen with no options (seems that Tiamat's recovery was not installed, yet no error message appeared during installation..)
What am I missing?? What are the buttons combinations to get the recovery options??

fastboot flash recovery the-recovery-you-want-but-the-better-is-twrp.img
after flash (look on the screen of xoom for confirm ) press "vol up + power" , xoom reboot and you see motorola round red logo, WAIT 3 second then press "vol down" , you see "Android Recovery" confirm with "vol up"
After I adb flash, I fastboot reboot... Didn't do any button combination.... maybe that's that...

I just suprrcid perm rooted unlock downloader and soft and install TWRP,do they have an app for our app drawer or do we have to get to recovery with vol down and power button,I'm used to having an app to get to recovery and backups like 4ext does and cwr is that not an option with twrp thanks!!!

Twrp is not an app.. Its a recovery image
Either use a ROM with APM and hold power, hit restart and then hit recovery
Or use adb and enter ADV reboot recovery

If you're familiar with other devices, it's possible you used CWM instead of TWRP, so just think of TWRP in that way.

Its just a "bonus" feature on the other custom recoveries that you have used. All the older versions of CWM I've used never had any feature like that (reboot into recovery app in app drawer).
Lots of custom ROMs have the option to reboot into bootloader and recovery, in the power menu (when you hold the power button down). And its also easily accessed with the usual button combo. So TeamWin probably just didn't see a need for it. Lots of people also might not like extra apps in their drawer.

It is compiled from official cm-10.2 sources
So, I assume it is safe, just as stock CWM can be

I'm a bit leery of the fact that it is based on 10.2 sources. I'm on 11.0, and while CWM 6.0.3.7 is very painful to use from a UI perspective, it has always worked, so I don't want to mess with my partitions unless I know it supports 4.4.

This is my point. Will PhilZ recovery properly write partitions? Specifically /data, as I believe that is the problematic one due to SELinux.

I'll make our position clear on that statement. We recommend a specific recovery so that we can rule out certain items when debugging issues, that is all. We are not making a recommendation based on "what is the best recovery available", it is a consistency decision that helps us when issues arise related to the file system, flashing, etc.
@Phil3759 - thanks for building this for the skyrocket.
I installed the new cm11 nightly with 0 problems. Went just like it should. Just FYI

I have flashed this rom with CWM recovery without any issues. I'm not sure why one recovery is recommended over another sometimes, but if you like the rom and want to stick with it, you can always switch to the TWRP recovery. There is a flashable zip available on here that works just fine.
BEFORE YOU FLASH THIS, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE A 2ND-BOOTLOADER INSTALLED FROM HERE.
This is a source-built version of CWM version 6.0.4.9 for use with the 2012 Kindle Fire HD 7" ONLY. Do not attempt to use this recovery on any other device.
Features:
OpenRecoveryScript-compatible
Backup/Restore
Mount/Unmount/Format Partitions
Warnings:
- I am not to be held responsible if you brick your device using this. (I will feel kinda bad though and help you to the best of my ability)
Bugs:
I have not managed to find any. If you find one, feel free to let me know.
Additional Notes:
- I will attempt to maintain this in my spare time. If a new release comes out that you are interested in and I have not updated yet, feel free to let me know.
- To flash this in another recovery, say, TWRP, download and flash the Recovery Zip File.
- To flash via fastboot, use the Recovery Image File.
To Install:
Recovery Image File:
- Reboot your device into fastboot mode (If you don't know what that is, follow the directions for the Recovery Zip File below)
- Issue the command
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery kfhd-cwm-6.0.5.1-recovery.img
followed by
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 reboot
- Enjoy your new recovery!
Recovery Zip File:
(If you followed the guide above for Recovery Image File, you do not need to follow these instructions)
- Reboot your device into recovery mode.
- Select Install
- Navigate to the place where you downloaded the zip file
- Select the zip file
- Confirm the installation

I hope you get this working. Also, I don't know why "Fix Permissions" was taken out of the latest CWM & Philztouch versions. Maybe once you get this going you can look into that. Just a thought. Also, I can test, if needed.

I just got Hashcode to help me out with the /system format thing and as for the /cache issue, apparently I was being too impatient. It seems to work fine.
I will fix and publish tomorrow.

There's something most developers don't offer. Good for you

Well, I've been to hell and back with my Kindle and experienced almost every single type of brick there is. The only one I haven't had is a brick in which the bootloader is overwritten with an incorrect/corrupt image (resulting in a hard brick and not fixable at the moment).

The recovery works great and I greatly appreciate your efforts but, the menu is so tiny compared to the size of the screen. Is there a way to make it bigger? Also, the volume buttons are so awkward to use. I know that's not really something you can change but, its a thought.

I think you can partially control it via touch (EDIT: Nevermind), but when I tried to look for how to build cwm-touch, I couldn't find it. I think I actually prefer it like this, though, because, have you seen it install a nightly automatically? It looks beautiful & minimalistic.

I have not, yet but, i will tomorrow, prolly. But, the touch doesn't matter too much its the tiny font on the huge screen that, if I could just get it a little bigger, i dunno.

Because I haven't noticed any *very significant* changes between now and then. I can do a fresh build in a few days if you want --- my internet is out.
