Just flashed CM 11 and my phone keeps getting stuck in 3G. Need help fixing it - HTC One S

Hello everyone. I have the S4 model and just recently flashed CM11 and now my phone randomly goes into 3G and stays there and then goes back to 4G for enough time to load something and then go to 3G again for sometime and then shut off completely and that keeps repeating. I have tried everything I saw in the #*#*4636*#*# menu and it hasn't helped. Any assistance would be great.

There were some build.prop changes that seem to help some T-Mobile users. Have you tried them?
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=24
ro.ril.hsupa.category=6
ro.ril.hsxpa=4
ro.ril.radio-svn=19
ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=0
For fast dormacy I've seen 1,2 as well, this depends if it's supported by T-Mobile

Yes, the others should be manually added to the file. You just have to use a root file explorer (like ES File Explorer, Root Explorer, CM File Manager) and edit the build.prop that is found in /system. Make sure you have /system mounted as R/W or you won't be able to save the file after editing. Reboot after making the changes
fast dormacy should be set to 0 if carrier doesn't support it, or to 1 or 2 (2 don't know exactly what it does but several people said it's better) if it's supported

It occasionally flips to 3G, but immediately snaps back to 4G so everything worked great.

[Q] Trying to enable HSUPA by making changes in build.prop

I am trying to replace the build.prop file with one that has been modified to supposedly enable HSUPA. I am able to replace the file using the temp root method outlined here but I cannot get it to stay intact after a reboot. It always reverts back to the original.
I tried the "adb push" and "dd if=<filepath> of=<filepath>" methods for transfering the file. And even played around with "chmod".
Anyone have any ideas?

I used this and Ive been getting 1.7 upload speeds even after reboot. I am fully rooted.
ro.ril.hsxpa=1 which means only support HSDPA, if you change that to ro.ril.hsxpa=3, it should work on HSDPA/HSUPA

does your dd command succede or error out. If it succeeds then something in the bootloader is protecting things and you'll need root to get around that.
It's successful. The command prompt shows the number of bytes transfered. And, using a file manager, I can see that the file has been changed on the device.
If you need it that badly, then I suggest you root to achieve your goal.

wifi calling for HTC Sensation on Rogers network

this is for Rogers users who have wifi calling in their plan.
How to get wifi calling working on htc sensation.
You need lib files from Rogers EVO, I found them in KingCobra3Dv1.6 ROM
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1267131):
libganril.so
libhtc_ril.so
libhtc_ril_switch.so
libkineto.so
librilswitch.so
Copy them to /system/lib
then you will also need apk for rogers wifi calling from kineto. I've found one on this forum (googled it):
MS-HTC-SHT-GB-2.3-48407-06.1.apk
This file is from Rogers EVO uploaded here by nice user(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216683&page=2). You will need to put it in
/system/app
Last step is to add to your build.prop this line:
rild.libpath=/system/lib/librilswitch.so
restart, enjoy!
Hey folks,
does anyone have Android 4 (ICS) ROM for EVO 3D with Rogers?
Im looking for lib file from this ROM ----> libhtc_ril.so
WiFi calling wont work after upgrading to newst radio , the lib is outdated
do we need root access?

I have done some research on how to root my sgs2. Once I do that today I will try and install the fix you have suggested. The lib files can be found in the file tree of the mod you suggested? I can just browse its folders, correct? No need to actually install it on my sgs2? Thanks for your help.
How is the workaround working for you? Are you getting uma without issues? Does it drain battery like alot of evo users have been reporting?
Ive followed everything you described step by step. It doesn't work. I see the icon when i click on it, it launches but exits from the app two seconds afterward. No error..
In the app it says wifi calling "enabling..." with the checkbox being checked of. I can click on other menu options and it doesn't close the app.
I can also assure you that I have wi-fi calling access on my account.

Yes, the libs are in lib directory, all I did is just copy them to lib on my phone. You may want to extract the zip on pc.
As for battery, it is in fact better since it turns off radio once it connects to WiFi.
There is no issues so far and voice quality is pretty good considering my moderate internet speed of 1.3M

Well. First question; after reboot did you get a window pop up saying something like " did you know that your phone can make WiFi calling" ?
This indicates that the libs are working, apk itself won't work. Also is the icon red, kind of Rogers like? If its not then you have T-Mobile apk which again doesn't work.
If it works , you actually don't open the app, it will turn on automatically when signal is too low. There is no force mode to use WiFi instead of GSM.
You can in fact open it with winrar or any zip software and search for rogers string, to make sure.
Also its good to check if the prop.build file has the line I've mentioned. I had my system dir in read-only mode and it was not saved.
I put the line at the end but I doubt it matters.
Otherwise I'm pretty sure that is all you need.
Oh, yeah, Im sure u have the feature but if you have a chance to test it in any blackberry, give it try. I checked mine before.

I wanted to follow up. I did everything that was described and had the app on the phone but still couldn't make calls. I added the one line in the build.Prop file. In theory I did all that was required then I noticed my imei was gone. It took me 2 hours to get my phone back to original state. Clockworkrecovery mod saved me and I ended up restoring my phone. I would still like to get this thing to work as I am going nuts without signal coverage.
I come from the world of blackberry and I know uma worked.
I wish there was an easier way for this to get going. I am a persistent noob when it comes to android, so I know I will get this working. I appreciate your help in this manner.
Rogers should release an app on the market allowing all android and iphones to have this, it would only benefit everyone involved. As a rogers employee I will continue to lobby for this to happen.
I will need to revisit this once my exams are done. I will do more research on this as well.
PS. I did not get the pop up when I booted my phone. There was an htc file in there. Does it matter that I have an sgs2?
The libs are from rom for sensation, I'm not sure if they work for Samsung. In fact I think not. But the apk should be fine. It's made providers. See if you can find similar lib files from sgs2 ROM

[SOLVED] [Q] EDGE dissappeared. What could be wrong?

Hello. I have a strange problem. My device was originally on Orange but unlocked with xtc clip.
Then I've installed custom rom (Runnymede S V4.01) and everything was OK. But when i decided to change it to Affinity 1.48.0 I've got not working EDGE, only GPRS was working for me. In SETTINGS>About phone> Network Type is Unkwown (Ussually was EDGE). I tried all radios, flashing different roms. And I've mentioned that on MIUI ROM EDGE works correctly but when I install again Sense ROM it disappears. One more thing, that with other SIM Cards everything is OK only with my Current is the problem. I've tried to put it into another phone and EDGE works fine.
What could it be?
Thanks for your answers.
you can try to edit APN configurations or manually set the apns for EDGE/3G etc.

I've tried. It doesn't help.
I've partially solved my problem in this may:
1. I installed Proxuser`s Saga3D V4 ROM with STOCK kernel. (But after first run i do not get EDGE working (only GPRS)).
2. I make a factory reset from SETTINGS.
3. I boot up and get my EDGE working again.
And after this i tried again to install another ROM. This time Endymion V3.1 (Endymion V1.1 kernel). After first boot EDGE was working good, but after first reboot It disappeared again.
Could some tell? Could the reason be in KERNEL? RIL? RADIO on different kernel?
Forgot to add.. My current radio is: 20.28b.30.0805U_38.03.02.11
Hello,
Your network doesn't allow simultaneous data and voice, which in turn causes a setting in build.prop to screw up Edge. In short, you have to:
- open /system/build.prop with any editor that allows mounting /system as writable (ES File Explorer works fine for me and comes pre-installed in Endy)
- Look for a line that says: "ro.ril.enable.dtm=1"
- change to "ro.ril.enable.dtm=0"
- Save, reboot and you're done
Cheers

Yeah. But you can do a full backup with Titanium backup! Do factory reset and then restore your stuff back.
Also you can try with nandoid backup, from recovery, it should work too.

[Q] DROID3 XT862 for pageplus and T-Mobile

Hi,
The system version is 5.7.906.XT862.Verizon.en.US
It was unlocked, rooted and installed root explorer ready to modify to work with US GSM ( Lycamobile also)
Here is where I got info to follow
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1989359
However, I have some concerns need help
1- will the instruction and the first build.prop file in the above link will work with my phone?
2- Can I use the phone with both pageplus ( being flashed with TalkForGood) and T-Mobile ( Lycamobile later)? I saw the same question without answer here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1425519
3- Can I use the phone oversea as a global phone without a need to follow the above link in Non-US GSM Networks session?
4- In case I want to go back stock image ( revert to the original one after messing it up), how?
To Skreelink, thank for your instruction but can you or anyone show me where to do the "required options" part because I simply couldn't find what you mentioned in my phone under Wireless & Network setting -> Mobile Network.
( I tried to post this under the above post but couldn't)
Thanks

1: The link you provided is my information and files for KEXEC ROMs, such as CM10.2 or AOKP. For the stock rom (As you listed 906), you will want to go here.
2: If you flash the XT883 radio for US GSM networks (like T-Mobile) you will not be able to flip between them via software toggle, you will have to flash the stock radio + swap build.prop back to stock and OTA on PagePlus, vice versa when you want to use the other network. (I wanted the same thing, I solved it by getting a Motorola Razr M XT907). The main reason for this is; The XT883 radio expects an RUIM card (CDMA version of SIM) and without it, puts it in emergency only mode. Verizon/PagePlus/Sprint/other US CDMA networks do not use the RUIM so no real way around this.
3: To use it as a global phone, just restore the stock radio and build.prop, it should work without issue WITHOUT MODIFICATION, as long as you have input the SIM unlock code to unlock the phone. You *can* use the XT883 radio globally, but both radios will work for global GSM.
4: To return to stock, follow this thread.
thank you

You either have to use adb or a root browser. Rom Toolbox Lite has one, ES File explorer also has one. I'm sure other apps have a root browser, but I've not used others.Rom Toolbox's root browser allows you to longpress for a menu to change permissions.

If the permissions are not sticking, then the app you're using either does not have root privledges, is not performing correctly, or your root isn't correct. Try updating your superuser binary via the superuser app. Although, rw-r--r-- should be just fine, 777 would 'pose' a security threat since it would allow any app to modify it. Long as you replace it with the one required for GSM, rw-r--r-- permissions should work.

Sorry, didn't see this until now... getting the Razr M on pageplus is a real pain, though T-Mobile would be simple. It's a matter of getting the computer to read the diag port (you have to manually select the driver) and simply editing ONE NV-Item, then any GSM sim will work (AT&T, T-Mobile, etc).
Here is one of my posts with a quick guide about unlocking a razr m for gsm.

The Droid 3 requires flashing the radio and build.prop to swap between CDMA/GSM
UNLESS it it is a foreign GSM network like Rogers in Canada, then the stock radio works without modification. The XT907 Razr M can do a software toggle between them (Network mode under Mobile Networks like the D3) but setting up PagePlus requires a lot of work for data, though GSM is a lot easier to get working than the D3. You can still go ahead and activate the D3 on pageplus, just after you flash between radios, you have to OTA program each time.

Thank you.
I think I can do the same process with the image file from the original and overwrite the build.prop with original.
I did back up the build.prop but not the radio.img
Where can I find the Droid 3 radio.img of 906 version?
I want it simple as a reverting from what I did because I already removed all Verizon apps and install my apps in the current image.
A recovery task can bring back the original image.

Sorry it took me so long, I had a long hectic day, but Here it is.
Just flash it like you did the XT883 radio and put a stock build.prop in (you should have backed up the original). Then you should be able to OTA program with *228 if it's activated on pageplus.
THANK YOU

Enable Wifi Hotspot for verizon unlimited data users - root needed

I just wanted to share this with any verizon unlimited users looking for a solution to wireless tethering with the V20. This needs root.
1.) Download modified HotspotProvisionVZWG4.apk. This is from the LG G4 post http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/general/how-to-enable-native-hotspot-unlimited-t3166435
2.) Rename '/system/app/HotspotProvision/HotspotProvision.apk' to 'HotspotProvision.apk.bak' (I used root explorer)
3.) Rename '/system/app/HotspotProvision/oat/arm64/HotspotProvision.odex' to 'HotspotProvision.odex.bak'
4.) Copy the modified HotspotProvisionVZWG4.apk and place it into /system/app/HotspotProvision/
5.) Check that the permissions on '/system/app/HotspotProvision/HotspotProvisionVZWG4.apk' is 0644
6.) Reboot phone. Enjoy native hotspot
Wi-Fi tether router in the app store works perfect. I can't remember how much it is because I bought it a long time ago.
Your way is much better, free, and easy to do.

That darn rooting thing! Just giving it a little while longer before I go that route, letting things settle in now that the VZW variant has success. I've got this thread and file saved for that day tho! Thanks for the info.
Just wanted to share because I spent the day looking for a solution. I had been using foxfi on the note7, but foxfi wifi tethering doesn't work in the v20 nougat. I tried a bunch of alternative apps but none let me get past the subscription check. This mod has been working great, though the rooting processes is still pretty rough.

I don't get step 5. I don't see anywhere to find 0644
Edit: rebooted and tested and it works. Thanks for this
Just because I had to Google it myself:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/set-0644-permissions-from-es-file-explorer/
Shows how the permissions tree looks for '0644' permission. Explanation here:
https://www.quora.com/Android-opera...es-some-files-need-these-types-of-permissions
---------- Post added at 10:35 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:29 AM ----------
And to follow up, not sure if it's just me... but I also did not have the file listed in Step 3. I am able to start the hotspot but any time I try to go to Set Up Mobile Hotspot to change the SSID or password, it force closes. I miss my PDA Net days lol
PDAnet still works with the v20 but not via wifi. Works with usb cable which I have used and Bluetooth which I have not yet tried. Been using it for years.
NO ROOT NEEDED : )
That is true, but I can't very easily tether my phone to my cheapo smart-TV with a cable
For what it's worth, the deodexed 996 stock ROM :
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/development/us996-100-stock-deodexd-rom-t3520131
has the hotspot built in, working flawless, with editing SSID possible just fine. I'm sure his other ROM's might also, but I'm on that one and everything worked right away. Was the first thing I tested as soon as I flashed it lol.

I ended up using the Stock 996 unmodded ROM, which has all the tweaks (RootSwitch) and stuff enabled out of the box, and the hotspot works perfectly on that one. Yes, it's not a "Verizon" ROM, but the only issue I've had at all, is that the My Verizon app doesn't work, nor the Visual Voice Mail. I do miss the functionality of both, but for me the hotspot is more important, and I can always check the others manually in a browser or dialing into the VM anyway.
This works fine on my rooted Verizon LG V20. I had the files listed, where they were supposed to be. I also used ES File Explorer to change the permissions to 0644. By default, this file is read-write-execute for everyone. 0644 is much more limited permissions - no one can execute, and only the owner can write to it. See the ES File Explorer link above from CharlzO_2000 that shows you how to set the permissions with ES File Explorer.
I tested the hotspot for a few minutes...worked fine. No carrier nag and good connection to it from an iPad. Thanks, OP, and thanks, CharlzO_2000 for the 0644 links.
Stumped...
So last night I was able to root my v20 (verizon) and it was quite hairy especially when it was vibrating like crazy.... So got over that hump and now I'm stumped at these hotspot activation steps. Could you guys help a brotha out? So renamed the files just fine, but did not understand the section about permissions. None of my root browsers were about to change permissions to 0644, but not sure if its needed. So when I try to fire up the hotspot from the system settings it automatically shuts off and says "activity does not exist on this device". What am I missing?

I use solid explorer you'll want to go into properties to change permissions.
I didn't like that ES File Explored made me install some shopping app before I could get to the hidden system files. Pretty crappy on their part...
Everything works exactly as the OP explained. If you're having trouble with the permissions in ES File Explorer, long press on the new apk file to select it, pick "more" in the bottom right, then select properties. You'll see permissions listed there and you need to pick "change" and change the boxes so that you get "rw- r- r-" (Owner = RW, Group = R, Global = R). Back out, reboot, and you'll be golden.

ES has gone downhill over the past year or two. I still have an older version backed up to avoid their bloat. The send over lan feature doesn't work with nougat though.
If you are fed up with ES, give FX explorer a try. I've found it to be a decent replacement without all the bloat.
Could this method cause the data connection to fail sporadically? While using the hotspot, my phone network stops working. It still shows 4G and it being functional, but the hotspot, my apps, nothing that uses data works. It lasts for a minute or two and then it works again. Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue...
Verizon LGV20 with 1.2 restock kernel and WETA.
If anyone would like to suggest a different kernel or ROM, I'm open.

Try reading the thread starting at the OP.
Hotspot crashing
Hello, I followed these steps and they worked to enable the wifi hotspot but Everytime I go to try to change the name and password the hotspot crashes.
Anyone have any idea if the hotspot name can be changed manually by editing the buidprop or something else?
Thanks
