[Q] USB Charging port fix by crimping USB Cable? - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

Hello,
I was having problems with my S3 not charging when plugged into the USB charging cable. If I would wiggle the cable around, it would start charging. Then if I set the phone down, it would stop charging. I figured the USB port was loose and/or broken. However, I took an old USB charging cable and I crimped the end down to "tighten" up the small opening in the end of the USB cable. Now it charges, the USB connection to the phone is very tight and it starts charging and stays charging. Problem solved?
My question is why do I need to crimp the USB cable? Has my USB port on the phone worn out? I've taken out the motherboard and cleaned the USB port with contact cleaner (which did not help). Does the little "prong" inside the USB port wear out?

I have recently had trouble with my phone charging from non-Samsung cables (the one that came with my phone still gives me no trouble). Similar issue, I suspect my phone port is wearing out.
Luckily, I have a wireless charger and battery cover so I dont use the port much now. Only down side is that there are no cases that fit with the VZW wireless charging battery cover.

Unable to Charge HTC TOUCH PRO Via a usb/car charger

Hello,
I have a VODAFONE BRANDED, HTC TOUCH PRO phone and it has started playing up suddenly.
It would charge when connected to a pc, car charger using a usb cable or using any mini usb charger. all of a sudden it has stopped charging with any other charger except its own htc wall plug charger.
I have tried a hard reset and still no joy.
the charge via usb is unchecked and it charges when connected to a PC.
However it doesnt charge with the following methods which used to work earlier
1. Motorola charger - mini usb
2. Using a usb cable and a wall output with usb
3. car charger with a usb output.
I have a htc audio out connecter. when i connect the connector, and then charge via usb it works in the car and from the wall.
is it something to do with the pins on the cables and on the device??
I used to get a menu asking the sort of connection that i needed (activesysnc, data etc) when connecting to the car charger earlier, it does not come anymore.
Its frustrating cos i travel a lot and find chrarging with usb cables the most convenint in the car, office or else where.
Could it be damaged pins on the device??
Any ideas/suggestions will be highly appreciated.
Many thanks

Its prolly pins because the mini USB is not a perfect fit for the HTC audio jack. I would use your HTC adaptor and run the USB through that.
Something might be blocking a less than 1000mah income charge..
On low battery (as in dead-battery) you definately need a wall-plug charger. Under normal conditions the USB car charger or laptop would be fine.
Since you hinted the use of the audio jack I most likely is a bad connection on the USB pins. Did you take a look at them using a magnifying glass?

Ur problem solved? I am facing kind of similar problem... Now my Touch HD can only charge using USB cable through computer.. it will not charge using any other external AC adapter.. very strange huh?
100 % fix
I managed to solder the black negative wire to the usb housing of a male usb mini and now it charges without any problem. The housing is used as a substitute for pin 5 that is negative because it has a metal shield as standard.
to make it easier for some noobs, just get a usb female to a usb mini cable and cut it off and solder the negtive black wire to the shield cable around all the wires. AS standard all usb cable have this shield metal that conects to the usb housing.
This is a FIX if you have managed to break the pin5 when inserting the stylus in the usb rather than the RESET button.
I had a weird charging issue with my AT&T Fuze as well...
The phone would charge fine (wall or PC USB) until I got some kind of notification on the phone (missed call, e-mail, etc). Then it would stop charging. Often when it was on the charger and on, the battery would run down until the phone shut off. Then it would start charging again. I would put my phone on the charger at night (and on) only to come down in the morning to find my phone turned off and charging because the battery had run down!
Shortly after this started happening I also started to get "storage memory low" messages. Coincidentally, since I freed up a bit of the storage memory (cleared IE and Opera history) I have not had the charging problem...
mini-usb problems with charging
This is the 2nd Fuze that has problems with the mini-usb connection and charging.
Slight forward pressure is needed to get a good connection. This happens with two different cables, two different car chargers, and three different HTC usb adapter dongles.
My phone is usually plugged into my computer or my car charger, unless I'm carrying it. I keep the screen lit when on external power as I use it extensively as a PDA. It's real obvious when I lose the power connection, as the screen blanks shortly thereafter.
Do i need to send my fuze back? since I havent read a solution. I dont think its software but i turned on charging through usb and now its the only way to charge. No chargers work? Grrrr. Batterys and chargers are good. This happened to my last fuze.
not to be a prick or anytihng, but have you checked the battery settings, there is a checkbox so it doesnt charge when plugged in - i've knocked this on a few times myself
the OP already noted that that option was not checked. Please read a little before that.
My car charger sometimes need me to move the wires around abit before it starts charging. It seems to be more like a pin issue.
Mini USB Charging Problems
I had the same problem.
I just solve it by using other mini usb cable.
Now it charges.
HTC Touch Pro Charging via USB Problem Solved
I can't believe it was that easy! You are correct; There is a check-box that will disable charging via USB if the unit is powered on. "Systems/Battery" I have been putting up with this for months, but never took the time to try and solve it. Sheesh!

problem charging phone whit pc or car charger

Guys I have a problem.
Recently, the phone is charging only using the original cable supplied.
If i use other cables (I have tried 3 4), which first went well, attacking the phone to computer now tells me that "the device is using more energy than he is given, not charging" or something similar.
The problem is that I was using in the car a retractable cable and the original was a bit of trouble. If you know for what could be the cause?
This because of usage some power eating application. As far as my experience I've used phone for data connection and as Wi-Fi modem. And if I'm charging through plug it's ok, buy in case of USB charging phone note me with a same alarm as you.

Another possible cause of this problem (I had the same issue) is the charging port on the phone itself has been bent so the charging cables dont sit inside there very well. Therefore a cheaper cable (3rd party cables that didnt come with your phone) might not get a very snug connection limiting the amount of power your phone recieves.
If youve dropped your phone while its been charging chances are thats what the issue is. If you look at your charging port on your phone you should be able to see if the metalic charge port has been bent and all it might take to resolve this is carefully bending the port back into shape (careful not to apply too much force as this is very risky, If you are not comfortable with this then please dont attempt as I am not responsible for any damages this is just 1 possible solution)
Also if you're charging by USB from your computer make sure its a USB port from the BACK of your pc as front ports are usually only USB 1.1 which does not provide much power at all. The ports in the back are USB 2.0 or if its a new computer it could even be USB 3.0. both which provide lots of juice to your phone.

HTC car kit charging plug damages phone's usb socket

Hi everybody,
I have recently bought the htc CAR D170 car kit (the original of htc, with possibility to charge the device) and I noticed that, after charging it in the car, when I try to charge it with the usual usb AC adapter/cable, it doesn't seem to get the electrical connection as good as it was before.
The usb plug seems to be more "loosely" plugged into the phone's socket, if you move the cable it looses connection, and the bad thing is also that if I plug another usb AC adapter, the usb socket of my phone seems to damage the adapter's plug so that, when used with another phone or micro usb device, the connection gets unstable, too.
It seems to me that the usb plug of the car kit has somehow twisted the device's usb socket...
Did anyone also try this car kit? I don't even know if this is covered by the warranty...
The usb port on the One mini seems to be a little weak. My usb port became very loose after just 2 months, and after another month it stopped working with my usb data cable and OTG cable. Also took twice as long to charge using the mains charger.
My phone is currently with HTC to be repaired ...I hope, as this is the second time i've sent it in. The first time they didn't bother to do anything to it and sent it back to me saying there was nothing wrong work it!.. I'm hoping they don't charge me for this as this is clearly a fault with the phone. The usb port needs to last at least as long as the contract your on.
I had my previous Samsung s1 for over 3 years with heavy use and the port on that is still going strong. I'm using that phone now while I wait for mine to return.

[Q]Use USB port while charging with induction?

Merry Christmas to y'all!!!
I've purchased this wireless induction charger on Amazon and I'm quite pleased with it. It's one of the only few cheap ones that can be used as display station.
I'm quite disappointed in one aspect though...
The point of getting and induction charger was of course to prevent damaging the usb port from plugging and unplugging repeatedly.
The second interest I had was that I tought this would consequently leave the USB port for other use, like plugging a mouse, flash drive (using Stickmount), basically any USB device connected via OTG cable.
Unfortunately, it appears that when you plug someting while the phone is resting on the station, it "disables" the induction charging...
I wonder if it's a software or hardware issue. Any workaround?
Just for the record, I'm running L 5.0.1 on Nexus 5
Most likely done to prevent one from attempting to charge with both the USB port and Qi at the same time, to prevent overheating.
Sounds legit...

In 90% of cases this is caused by either a faulty cable or a faulty powerbrick. Are you sure it isn't either of it?
Else try cleaning your port, once had this issue (but with microUSB) that it charged 5%/h just because there was so much dust in the port.
Also I had one (really cheap) USB-C cable which was just working when plugging in with one dedicated side up - so when I flipped the cable 90°, it wasn't even recognizing the cable -> turn back and even fast charging worked.
No faulty cable or no any cut with cable.. its genuine..
sometime getting fast or cable charging

Any Idea that how to clean port ???? i think its dust there.
i have exactly the same problem started happening today. multiple chargers and cables still shows slow charging
Same problem with me. Please help
I use a push pin (thumbtack with a plastic head) to clean the port. I have had to do this a few times since I got the phone a couple years ago. I have scraped pretty hard the bottom of the port and not caused any damage. Of course you do need to show some restraint. I don't want to be the cause of you breaking your phone. I had the most trouble with a car charger, but also the OEM charger. The cleaning has always fixed it for me.
