[Q] Wired bug after installing new google camera app - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
After installing today the new google camera app from play store I noticed that it does not show as installed on play store but it was. So I decided to run uninstall all updates of the camera app with the settings. After the next reboot my phone showed me that I have to sign in to my google account (like on the first boot), so I did it. I checked the accounts on the settings menu and noticed that all accounts was cleared even my wifi settings. Now I wanted to delete this buggy camera app and restore it with a zip file, so I booted into recovery and noticed that cwm can't mount E (my SD Card).
It is the first time something like this happened to me. Do I have to be worried about my phone?
Phone details:
Nexus 5 with root with unlocked boot loader
Cyanogen mod 11 m5

ok, then youre not as bad off as i was fearing. first, if you dont want the new camera app, go to the phones main settings, apps, find the camera app, open it and press uninstall update. the issue with your recovery is different, ive seen many people with that issue these past few weeks, honestly i dont know how its solved, but people have solved it. id go to the thread for your recovery and ask about it there.

My English is not the best, but (like I wrote in my first post) uninstalling the update caused this problem. Any idea how something like this is possible?

it didnt "cause" the problem, it was just coincidence. installing/uninstalling apps have nothing to do with the recovery, nothing. the "cwm can't mount E" is a very common issue though.

Misnamed apps? Wrong versions? Fix here

Taking some advice I saw on the BAW forum one step further, I deleted the entire /data/boot-cache directory (after doing a nandroid backup of course).
Took about 3-4 extra minutes to boot up, presumably to recreate the contents of the directory, but now all of my apps are showing the correct version, correct icon, and correct name. Haven't run into any issues yet.
I didn't want to suggest this just in case something else would mess up. If you have a lot of bad apps this is perhaps faster than deleting each one.

Hey there you are! Hah.
I did have a lot of bad apps and had some trouble finding the proper directories for a few. I had just done a backup so I thought I'd give it a try.
I also figured this was the perfect place to suggest it for people to try - around here people are smart enough to do real backups before they start deleting things
Is this with just rooting the phone or after you install the custom rom?

I haven't touched the custom ROM yet. You do need to root the phone to do this, and it must be done from a shell.

It should, yes. I had a bunch of apps misnamed in that way (EasyMoney, Spades, a few others) and it fixed them.
One of them, Buka Lite, reverted back, though.
I tried this out and all the programs I'd been having issues with were fixed. I rebooted. Still fixed.
But then I installed three updates and after reboot, the same issue came back again. There must be another cache store somewhere...maybe Android Market related, or at least the Android package manager. Either way, I guess some more digging is in order.

I think there's just a bug with the way the phone handles the cache. Did the versions go back to what they were before you deleted the cache, or what they were after you deleted the cache and before you updated the apps?
Looks like the versions didn't revert. Last night, I used aTrackDog to send myself a list of all my apps. I can't remember the three that I updated today, but the two I do remember, Flixster Movies and Handcent did not revert.
Lastnight:
Movies,2.0.1
Handcent Sms,2.9.12
Now:
Movies,2.1.0
Handcent Sms,2.9.13
Well, I decided to remove Dolphin browser since I noticed it kept opening up and running in the background (active, at least that's what Taskiller says). Of course, the next reboot caused all the icons to get messed up again.
So, I thought to look for other cache directories. Does anyone think that deleting /data/dalvik-cache in addition to the /data/boot-cache directory might help? Is it safe to try it out? I'm assuming it'll just get repopulated automatically.

After you install any updates you will have to continue to remove the /data/boot-cache version until HTC/Sprint fixes the bug.

Would uninstalling the original, then installing the newest version alleviate the issue? As opposed to just update the app...

Nope. I even tried uninstalling, rebooting twice, then installing again. Reverted on next boot.

Damn. It sounded good in theory.
I had this issue with Google Sky Maps and it worked to let me back in. What was displaying after a day or so renamed itself to 'End User License Agreement' and wouldn't let me get past the EULA screen, only offering the option to force close.
The only caveat is that now Sky Maps is still named 'End User License Agreement', but it at least let's me in.
Odd
I tried removing both boot-cache and dalvik-cache. Didn't make any difference...eventually, the errors return if/when you update or install an app.
this must be a bug with the hero. i had the Moment and no apps renamed themselves at all. reset after reset the apps were fine. i reset my hero once and it messes up the apps
Doh! Doesn't seem like there's any easy perm fix in sight... hope it doesn't happen w/ 2.0 and Sense...

I'm not sure if the OP is a troll, or just stupid... How hard is it to give ACCURATE information on what you are trying to do.
Trolled. Perhaps.
Troll or not , I have had this issue when trying to update apps. I haven't really figured out what's causing apps not to load. I get "app not installed, no usb or SD card found".
Ill be vague just like the op. Here's what you do clear cache and defaults on the market.

I get it when the download interrupts and the file is corrupted. So it can't install. I usually just redownload and its fine.
Try unmounting ur SD card, then installing. I had a problem awhile back with specific apps and that fixed it.

I am having the same problem and it is driving me insane. I have cleared cache in the market. I have rebooted, reflashed, reset to factory, Took out the SD card, put it back in, unmounted it, booted without it.
It doesn't matter what rom I flashed as I have tried several. I just restored my phone with CWM to a backup I made right after I first rooted and the market still doesn't work.
Are you rooted?? Its most likely a bad previous install that needs to be removed first which can be quite troubling because some show that they aren't installed when in actuality they are just not properly. IF YOU ARE ROOTED try using Titanium Backup Root to remove the bad install.

yeah, I am rooted. have been for a while. I have flashed and used several roms/ kernals etc. The thing is, even if I reset the phone to factory it still does it. I went into Titanium, what or how do I find a bad install?? Is there something to look for?

Possibly the ROM's included the app but have a bad install inside the ROM. I seen this issue with a couple apps specifically FLASH PLAYER. Which app are you having issues with?? When in Titanium Backup go to the Backup/Restore section and it should show all of your installed applications..scroll to see if the application you are trying to install is on the list...if so uninstall it. If this doesn't work its possible there is a previous apk file on your phone of this app which is corrupting the download which can be removed with an app like "ROOT EXPLORER" unfortunately it costs money. To do that you would venture into the system/app folder and delete the apk file if in fact there is one in there. To check to see if there is one most file explorers will allow you to go into these folders but you cannot access anything.

I have Root Explorer. Thanks. seems this is a common problem after searching google. No know solution as everyone has got theirs to work doing something different. I have not made any backups with Titanium as the roms I have used auto re-installed everything. I am wondering if it has something to do with that. Any time I flash a rom now, it says "starting download" for all my apps in the market. They never start though.
it's working now. not sure what I did though. I wiped everything and flashed BAMF remix (what I was using originally) and when I went through the setup I did everything like I did before. Only thing I changed when swapping roms was I would not set up my HTC account in the setup.
I'm not rooted (yet!) and I've been having the same problem with the market for the last two days. Probably half the apps I bought/downloaded hung on authorizing. When finally authorized it took quite a while to download and show under my apps. One took almost an hour to show up. Email notifications were also delayed. Tried clearing the cache but that didn't help...

Some problems with CyanogenMod 9 Milestone XT720 RC fjfalcon

First a BIG THANK YOU, FJ for the great job.
I have some problems with a build from 16.07.2012
First i can not move app to SD. I can move only 5-6 apps, and no more, so after i installed 10 apps my storage was going to full. /Sorry about my bad english/
I have tried to install Link2SD, but it says Link2sd is updating and did not have icon of it. I lost my PlayStore and have to reinstall the build. After that it was the same problem with a Link2SD and moving apps. My second partition is FAT 32, because the previous build and Link2SD did not work with ext partitions. I see that the second partition after moving 2-3 apps is empty.
When i click on Manage Apps it is closing and nothing happen. After 4-5 times of clicking it is opening.
The Cam is working well, Camcorder too.
I have a problem with a virtual keyboard. It shows for a while and is hidding.
I have tried many ways but still can not flash it. I am an amateur. but I can not ask in the official topic. My posts are not enough.
Can you give me detailed instructions please?

You must have OpenRecovery installed.
Just download the build and gapps. Copy in the Updates folder of OpenRecovery. Go into Recovery mode
Apply Update, search for the file that u have copied.
After Update do 3 Wipes
after that install gapps
Did you find any solution for missing apps problem?
I tried this build couple of times. Its pretty great. Sync with Google-account didnt work but biggest problem was that app thingie.
Everytime i rebooted the phone,(or it rebooted itself) after the CM9 booloader logo a box appears saying: "Updating Android. Optimizing apps xx/80".
When the phone finally starts, ALL my installed apps have vanished. Every time. And the are installed in the phone, not on sd.
Is this a common problem?

Yes it is! Beautiful and fast.. Well, loading of the main screen took 4-5seconds when sim-card was in the phone.
Except that, build was faster than Froyo I used. Hope it gets fixed soon.
Is the smoothness of this rom,the same as froyo??..i mean is it stable enough??..
Question for CM9

Problems with Link2SD on Sony Xperia Arcs

Hi,
After problems with insufficient memory on my Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S I decided to partition my SD Card using Link 2SD. Apart from the fact that it took 3 days to get my head around some of the more technical stuff I managed ok..and was pleased with myself when i finally had it all done on my phone with the 2 partitions.
I then used Link2SD to create links to my SD card for those apps that allowed it. However, after doing so, my phone came up with a message telling me that Facebook (kahuna?) app was broken and not responding (sorry, I can't remember the exact message now) I waited, rebooted and tried again but still not working so went back to Link2SD to remove link for this that I had previously created. (Figuring this would put it back to before i moved it) Rebooted phone and now Facebook, Google Play etc have all gone off my phone menu. They were still there as available apps, but when trying to launch them from Link2SD the message displayed that these apps had been removed. I then managed to uninstall the apps that were causing the problem, rebooted and tried to do fresh install of them. However, when going to Google Play via my p.c I am told these are already on my device!?! I cannot find them anywhere on my device at all
I hope I have explained this well enough for someone to offer help as to how to get Facebook and Google Play back on to my phone. Everything else seems to be working ok, it's just these two apps that seem to have gone awol.
To clarify, I just need to know if there is a way to get Facebook and Google Play back

That's just it, I can't download them, and as I said at start, really and truly that is my issue.
Link2sd has corrupted them to the point where the phone doesn't recognise them as being installed anymore, but google play etc will not let me re-download them as they say my device already has them on. That is the problem i'm having. The apps are there but not there!

For me they are all useless and I would like to erase them from the system altogether.

the google and gmail apps are used for authenticating the user. remove those apps and you remove the OS's ability to recognize a user. from there, it will just crash because it basically doesnt know what to do with the holes in the code created by removing those apps

Which applications can definitely not be erased, yet causing a system malfunction that renders it unusable to the point of having to flash rom stock again?

is that a question or statement?
if it is a question, i would advise not uninstalling anything that is included in your phone and google related for the most part. Of course you can remove hangouts, calendar, calculator, gallery blah blah blah, but its never a good idea to uninstall the email application that google uses for authentication on the phone itself.
from what you listed, if any one thing in that list caused your issue, its removing gmail

factory reset. also, delete the folder on the internal storage called "android". That folder contains app information and isnt formatted during a flash via TWRP or even in Odin. Itll cause app crashes left and right. Delete the folder from within the file manager in TWRP, reboot to download mode, flash whatever firmware youre wanting on it via Odin, let it boot, reboot to stock recovery, factory reset (at least once. i always do it 3 times, and no, im not kidding), reboot and it should be fine from there. The problem youre facing has been experienced by countless people over the years and phones. Ive seen issues VERY similar to this over the last 8+ years, and this is always the easiest fix for it

Did not know about the android folder, but it was solved with simple restart of the OS.

Do you know if the Samsung Connect app can be deleted?
Two applications are not working properly, due to root, they are: Healt and the safe folder, have any idea what to do?
You can remove apps without root using adb. I dont have any email app or google search on my s6 and no problems
