So I am using an LTE connection which is extremely fast (maximum p2p speed has been 4mb/s) however my network blocks the data from being tethered and if it detects it, the internet on the phone itself does not work until the phone is restarted. I have done a lot of research and downloaded a bunch of apps for tethering including ones which do not require roots and ones which do and nothing works. I have tried to change the user agent in my browser and that has not worked either.
I am using an S4 with a stock google edition rom, I know they are blocking the tether because the internet works fine on the phone until a computer connects to the phones access point.
what should I do? None of the recommended apps worked for me...
also thought i should mention; p2p traffic is also blocked but works when using a VPN on the phone, VPN does not help the tethering situation though.
Any ideas? getting really desperate now

I have recently purchased an LG Vortex that comes with the Android 2.2 operating system installed. I have looked into rooting my phone with z4root and have successfully temporarily rooted my phone. I would rather keep my phone unrooted, but if it is absolutely necessary I will root it permanently with z4root.
My question is this: How can I connect to my company wifi and use apps that require wifi?
I can successfully connect to my corporate wifi through the 802.1x EAP protocol. The problem comes when trying to access any of the apps that require internet (I am forcing Verizon's data plan not to be used--using wifi only due to 150MB limit on my data to save $$ per month). None of my apps seem to work--internet browser, Market, Gmail, Google Calendar, etc...
On my company pc I know that within internet explorer the box is checked that says "Use automatic configuration script" and gives an "Address" that is in the format of "..../proxy.pac" It looks like my work uses a proxy for things to connect to the internet. I have no such place to put this information in my LG Vortex. I downloaded an app that seemed promising called "Proxy Settings" which will allow me to enter in the following Hostname and Port. When I tried to enter the "..../proxy.pac" as the hostname it gave me an error stating "The hostname you typed is not valid."
Is there an app or something that will allow me to use my apps when connecting to my corporate wifi? Is it a proxy setting thing or a VPN thing? I am not sure. I am open to any and every idea so that I can use my phone's online features while connected to my company's wifi.
FYI - I have friends that have iPod touches and they are able to connect to the internet with some apps internet browsing and downloading apps, but they have a similar issue of not being able to use all of their apps as well. I believe they were able to put the "..../proxy.pac" address in their devices somewhere.
Thanks!
Any ideas? HELP!!!
Your compay could have blocked its use on WIFI?
i think the Corp have blocked the connection. Basically blacklist everything but certain site. Try to access facebook through the browser, if it goes through then i dont know. Of not then the Corp have things blocked.
I was just wondering if anyone has had any luck with FoxFi and wifi tethering with the One S on stock software that uses t-mobile?
I have tried it on both my One S and GS3 and both show enabled and when I try to connect with a windows 7 laptop says it is unable to connect right away.
That is both it encryption on and off. Also tried different unused AP names.
I know it is not supported with the GS3 but anyone out there have luck with the One S?
Not sure if needed something with the phone setup that may need to be different.
Anyone?
I tried FoxFi, tethering my phone to my laptop running mint 13 and then my desktop running windows 7, both connected and worked with no problem. Now I'm running CM10 and using native tethering.
Ok got the app atleast connecting to the computer with the 1.91.3 from foxfi.com/bin
but now even though I am connecting it seems like certain things work and others dont
my google talk program found internet and connected but loaded chrome and it gave me t-mobile upsell error message
Read at the end of this thread, the solution offered today works without touching APN's.

My experience making FoxFi work on T-Mobile
My experience is that T-Mobile will check the user agent string and block non-mobile ones.
This happens when using wifi, bluetooth, and USB connections to FoxFi.
I can connect to my T-Mobile phone using wifi with FoxFi from another mobile phone or tablet just fine.
If you use an https page from your desktop, you can usually get through. I've read the HTTPS encrypts the user agent string, so T-Mobile can't read it.
If you try to access a plain HTTP page from your desktop browser, it seems T-Mobile puts a 10-30 second block on all your traffic.
Some people say they change the user agent string on their desktop computers to get around this. Then T-Mobile thinks your desktop browser is a cell phone browser and lets it though. But that can force you to see a mobile version of a website.
You can also use FTP, SFTP, ... from your computer and probably get through fine since there are no user agent strings on those protocols.
A slightly easier option is to use a VPN on your computer. ProXPN has a pretty simple free version. AnchorFree's Hotspot Shield has a free version, but it adds ads to the web pages you view. Or you could use a company VPN if it makes everything go through it. That encrypts the traffic and T-Mobile can't read the user agent string.
So here's the strange thing I've noticed recently while connected to my GS3 via hotspot, youtube videos don't play on devices connected to the specific hotspot. I'm using CleanRom 7, and I've only noticed this recently. It's like the video will not load, but the site itself works entirely. I don't have this issue with various Wi-Fi networks, it is specific to my phone and devices connected to my phone.
YouTube App does work on my phone regardless if hotspot is on.
YouTube does work on multiple networks on multiple devices, but via hotspot through my GS3.
No app blocking or redirecting incoming and outgoing traffic. (unless that's happening and I'm unaware of any changes)
I'm just curious if anyone is having this issue as well? Or with any other video format online. I've checked whether or not it's just the flash player or HTML5 format was the issue, but again the videos play regardless on networks outside of my hotspot. I've also been to sites where flash video works flawlessly via my hotspot. So, it's really just YouTube.
verizon hotspot note 2 youtube not working

I also experienced the same thing. Been looking around and they are blocking youtube. Apparently they are blocking youtube, netflix and various other streaming sites on any device connected to the hotspot. I have a grandfathered unlimited account with verizon so its people like me they are mainly aiming this at. You can try a VPN from what im told by a buddy at verizon, but its hard to find a good VPN off the playstore that doesn't have nefarious programming. I'm sure you could find something here on XDA about VPNs. Sorry im not anymore help but im a newb. Lol
Also it might have something to do with when they throttle down the data speed. Might be automatic until your data plan renews each month.?

I finally found a vpn I like a lot. Private internet access, unlimited bandwith for 40 something a year. Speeds are good and it has a play store app that works pretty good now (the old app was just a shortcut to the default android vpn settings). I think its 10$ or something for month to month payment so if you try it out and like it don't forget to buy the year and save a good chunk of change.
Thanks I think its time for this. ive always heard of VPN's but never really understood the need. If this works "thanks Verizon for opening my eyes" lol
What is the name of the VPN?

I think he mentioned "VPN by Private internet access", search the market for "Private internet access" and you should find it.
I just signed up for the Privateinternetaccess.com vpn service. It works great. Got my youtube videos and my netflixs back. Use the windows program on the computer that connects to the hotspot. And the android app on the device that is connected to the hotspot. Do not use the vpn on the device projecting the hotspot. I could get my desktop to contect to the hotspot but no internet. Maybe im doimg something wrong but the other ways work great!! Thanks for this topic!!!!!

I have problems connecting on windows 8 but it will connect. 7 and xp connect without any problems. I think it is a setting in the firewall. If you have a router that supports VPN you can set it up there and tunel all your traffic.

PIA, Hidemyass, airvpn etc will all work
Alternatively, you can spend a one time fee of $8 for the foxfi key. I use it to access my native hotspot on stock rooted 4.3 without any issues.
I use MetroPCS, owned by T Mobile, and I just bought a new LG G Stylos. On this new phone I reloaded my apps including PDANet, a tethering app from Play Store. After having used the app for nine months with my old phone and my computer, I was no longer able to surf the internet. I could still connect, but ZERO data was downloaded. I used a second older phone which still has service and I was able to connect and everything worked fine.... T Mobile seems to have blocked the third party app from allowing me to tether my phone to my computer.
A partial work around is to use Tor Browser. I am still blocked from accessing the internet through other programs or browsers, but I am able to get full internet access while using Tor Browser.
Hope this is helpful for some of you.

Posted back in January before J700m had a forum. See original post, my solution and feel free to give a better solution, I have no problems connecting to Win. PC, but still not able to connect to Pads, phones or any Android devices.
Original post......Long
Suggested by admin to post here.........I have a J700m 5.1.1 lollypop, Baseband J700MUBU1AOL2, Kernel 3.10.61-919542, build LMY48BJ700MUBU1AOL2, SE for Android Enforcing SEPF_SMJ700M_5.1.1_0043, KNOX 2.4 ........, and am trying to use it as a hotspot and/or USB tether to access internet. All devices connect to phone/router....DHCP on router/phone work fine,,,assign DNS, IP, Gateway .... all looks good. Phone will surf without problems, but will not pass traffic as a router to internet. Tried setting up as static connection, rebuilt APN, New SIM, Factory reset, etc.. talked to local Telco(Pine Cellular in S.E. Oklahoma). Swap SIM to old phone and all is fine.Pine is a GSM provider with no restrictions. I can ping phones internal IP 192.168.1.14, but nothing outside of phone using it as a router(8.8.8.8 as DNS)....Phone will pass all traffic to and from handset(phone surfs fine) just not through gateway. I am out of ideas except 2... could it be trying to pass all traffic through VPN that does not exist/ not set up or needed..or something like wlan=disabled.....or something like that? Hope this makes sense because I don't want to downgrade phones and they do not have a clue...Samsung is horrible, even second tier support . It acts like a firewall on the phone or similar is blocking all traffic when used as a router to internet....wifi hotspot, USB tether nothing works. Tried installing FoxFi...same. One of the Techs thinks it is firmware issue because I was told "the phone is from the Mexican market and I am in US". I thought about rooting and flashing a new rom, but it is a new phone so by, by warranty.... I have 2 of these, mine and my wives. I have rooted, bricked and repaired my old XCover so I have just enough knowledge to be dangerous.
+++++++++++++More info++++++++++++ my reply to answer from Android Central member who thought it was blocked by provider.
........I thought the same thing( telco blocking tether)...spent hours on the phone with techs. The company is small and has only 3 techs. I can swap my sim card to my old phone, daughters phone and a old Moto Blur and all work perfect... One thing I noticed when using USB tether on a win7 machine it connects ...DHCP assigns IP, DNS...etc and I get a balloon in the lower right corner of PC " additional login may be needed, click to open browser.." as if I was at a hotel or something... I contacted the CEO and was told there is no blocking of connection sharing.
What I have done.... WORK AROUND
Rooted Samsung Galaxy J7 SM-J700M Android Lollipop 5.1.1 with CF-Auto-Root using ODIN software. Here is the link to root guide with links to all needed downloads. http://www.recovery-mode.com/root/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-j7-sm-j700m-android-lollipop-5-1-1.html
I then used Trev_E Mod to tether using WiFi from phone to PC. Here is a link to Mod and guide, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1988735
It works great with all my computers but, Android devices do not see it??? My provider gave double data when I renewed contract, 2 phones 15G each = 30G I can't see not using it.
I hope this helps someone else or if there is another fix I would love to try it. Thanks to all.
