Had anyone figured out a way to tether data on stock without using Verizon's mobile hotspot.
I miss this feature coming from the Rezound. Then again I was on a custom Rom and not stock. I hope there's a way to do it on stock because I wanna enjoy it for a while before I decide to do any flashing.
I'm rooted and S-off btw
Since the WiFi Tether app doesn't work well with KitKat, users have modded the native mobile hotspot.
This was posted on here earlier, but I cannot find the thread. Here is the native hotspot that has been modded.

Flash in recovery, open the app, set up your settings and enable. No nag from Verizon, and everything works great. It took a little to get used to at first, and it works flawlessly for me

What's wrong with the wireless tether (for root users)? Does it only support 1 device? I tested wireless tether with my MBPro and it worked fine.

Great, where did you find it? Wireless tether is only working for one device and it would be great to have a true hotspot when using the Cyanogen Mod ROM (or other custom roms as a matter of fact) with the defy.
Yes I am a newby. Yes I have searched and didn't really find what I was after.
I unlocked my phone a bit back and did the leaked IMM26. Since then Sprint has updated it again to 4.0.4. I now have an Asus Transformer Prime with ICS and would like to use WiFi or BT tether on my NS4G. Is there a way to do it without going the route of loading up a custom ROM?
Thanks in advance for your time and assistance.
Cheers

I have tried wifi teather. The tether function itself works beautifully in ICS. The Prime gets its IP address fine but there is no data connection. If I open the web browser on the Prime it states there is no connection. So either I am doing something wrong or its still locked out by Sprint in ICS. Help or clarification is appreciated either way.
I have also tried the "1-Click WiFi Tether No Root" app from the market and it does not work either. The problem statement is if I tether with the native ICS or with this app or others in the market then I lose data connection on the NS4G and obviously dont get it on the tethered device (Asus PRIME in this case).
After a considerable amount of reading I decided to just root the phone and install ClockworkMod and vhgomez36 ICS 4.0.4 ROM. Why? What I discovered is that even rooted there appears to not be an app or way to Tether when using a stock Sprint ROM. They disable it and check your account settings at launch to see if you have "Wifi Hotspot" enabled. If you do not then they disable data on the phone.
Works great now on vhgomez ROM with stock ICS tether app.
Case closed.
Hello all
Rooted my phone a week back, and it has been mostly working fine except for the WiFi hotspot feature. It used to work before rooting, but now I cannot get it to work at all and I have tried a bunch of stuff.
It doesn't give me any errors when I start it, but there used to be an icon in the header that shows its working no longer shows up.
I have tried to use 3rd party WiFi tether, but those didn't work either. Tried resetting the apn, and making an exact copy and selecting the new one does not make it work....
Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
I have removed some bloatware as well, would that affect it?
No it is broken on mine too.
Need the /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/database.db file from a Rogers RUU or ROM.
If we had that it would work I think.
If you guys check the DEV section you'll find your answer in there. Mine is working like a charm. Cheers.

Are you talking about the One Click Tether method?
Or are you talking about getting a tether app from the market. I know I can do that but I want to use the native tethering. A lot cleaner.
OneClick Tether method.
Enables NATIVE hotspot.

Yeah...just did it and it finished successfully and it didn't work for me. Still get the same error.
Fix is here...

I had to download SQLite and add a APN manually to the telephony.db. AT&T method didn't work for.
This is for everyone who has been pulling their hair out trying to figure out how to wifi- tether on T-Mobile LG-G2, without getting blocked by T-Mobile. I have tried multiple methods and this is the only one that seems to work perfectly every time. this method uses the native hot-spot and NOT wifi-tether. I was only able to get Wi-Fi tether to wok on ASOP rom. (cm10.2) This method works great on the stock rom. Keep in mind I do have the unlimited data plan.
I actually just called T-Mobile yesterday and had them upgrade my plan to the 2.5 GB of free hotspot data (was 500MB previously) that is included in the unlimited $70 plan.
need to be rooted (not sure if custom recovery is needed by I do have one)
have HOTSPOT SHIELD VPN installed on your phone
Turn on hotspot shield vpn and let it connect and secure your connection. once you see the key in the top left corner you are good.
Then you turn on the native hotspot on the phone, configure your SSID and password if you like. the native hotspot should now be detected by other devices, simply connect and you should be good to go without using your hotspot data or receiving the blocked site page from T-Mobile, just as long as the vpn is still connected.
trust when I say I have spent hours and hours and days and days trying to find a method that worked, and this one does seem to do the trick (at least for the past few days lol) I have used it to connect to my kindle fire, other android phones, and my ps3.
Test it out and see how it works for you. let me know if you have success or not.
**Now I do believe you must have some amount of hotspot data remaining in order to use this method or it wont connect. otherwise you will have to wait until your hotspot data allotment refreshes at the beginning of your new billing cycle**
The way I do mine is by changing the user agent on chrome to something else and it works. Now i have a d802 rom so im not sure about stock rom,
Before there was tether in the plan it used to tell you right away to add it when you turn on tethering on the samsung devices but by doing some mods with framework-res.apk to change the tethering apns it would let you use it without that pop up. But always have a user agent

You know i have tried using a user agent but i didnt work for me for some reason. Im running Buckeye V2.1 rom which is a stock rom but its super fast over the stock out of the box rom. I seem to like the lg g2 rom over asop which judt seems a bit boring now. I will have to try the user agent method again and see whats happens. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of support or love for the d801 right now so i was banging my head against the wall trying to get it to work but this seemed to work for me. I always check my hotspot data via the t mobile app just to make sure no hot spot data is being used and so far so good using vpn. Just wanted to share in case it works for others.

Can someone recommend a tethering app? I do have unlimited data. I am running the newest Viper ROM and i'm not sure if I can use the default tether app. I'm not sure if it will trigger a service with Verizon's hotspot feature.
If not can someone let me know!
Thanks!
Use the native tethering. You won't trip any alarms or anything. I use it.
If viper didn't mod it for some reason, just look for the thread that has instructions how to get native tether to work.

You can. Viper has modified stock tether. Also no harm in trying the stock tether. It will complain about not having plan/only allow you to go to VZW registration page if you don't.
