I have been trying to text my dad some pictures to his nexus 5 from my m8 on viper Rom. They show up but as black boxes. I'm able to send them fine to his work iPhone and my sons DNA, as well as my wife. But every pic I send to his phone is a blank. Any help would be great. Thx

Textplus assigns you your own number so you can text others.

But text plus only works for free texts in us and Canada

Oh I'm sorry, I just assumed the OP lived in either one of those countries.
Then I don't have anything else. Most that I know of only work in the US.

Do you also have an Android phone that you text from? If so, you can use MightyText and you can send texts from any computer or Android device, and it syncs to all of them. Love it.
Text plus is great

This. Although I dont know if it works in other countries. I dont know why it wouldnt. Try either Mighty Text or DeskSMS. Both have Chrome Extensions to text from your browser and apps to text from your tablet. I prefer Mighty Text though
So. I have looked, And looked. Tried XDA, android central, Google search. No answers. Even called Google about this. I had an HTC incredible s before the n5 running 4.0.4. I would be connected to my WiFi. Mobile data would be off. I would send a MMS. Mobile data would turn on, send the MMS and turn off. All the while WiFi was still on. Now after some search it seems this was a code I'm the framework of sense ROMs. The phone was rooted and running mike1986 ROM. Awsome feature. Fast forward to today. N5 will not let me do this. My wife's moto x is the same issue. Now I understand this is not a huge deal to some but to have to turn off WiFi to send AND receive even the notification of an MMS is annoying. Is there any way to get around this? I have tried 8sms, and another app. Can't remember the name. No luck. Thanks guys!
No one?

@montrealer99 use textra does exactly that and can send sms and mms straight over wifi and it uses ur actual phone number
Thank you. Tried it today but still no luck. I find it hard to believe its so complicated for Google to fix this or at least add it as an option after 4.0

So it seems that as a battery saving idea, mobile data gets turned off when WiFi is connected. Will not allow MMS to function.

Have you tried go SMS? My dad uses it & it has helped him.

Same thing. Now one person at my work has a n5 on a different carrier and it works. Another is on the same carrier as that person with a gs4 and it does not work. Both are running 4.4.2

Just picked up 2 m8s for my husband and I. It's been a long time since I've had an HTC phone. Really like it however I can't get he notifications to vibrate or ring for text messages. I've tried all the run of the mill stuff.
Something I'm missing?

That's weird. Stock messaging app? By default it's set for the VZW one. I picked HTCs version and setup my ringtone. Do a reboot for safe measure. Toggle back and forth between default messaging apps (kk feature) and then reboot again. Bet it's stuck with the one you're not using as default.

Hmmmm ok sounds good will try that. Yes it was the stock one. Was not impressed with the Verizon one
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
Still no dice. The message won't even come through until I opened the app. I rebooted both phones and toggled the Verizon messaging app too.

Figured it out. It was under networks and wireless. There were 3 text programs and I had to change the default one.

Title says it all. I have tried to use it with my brothers note 5 but it doesn't seem to work. WiFi calling and voLTE enabled on both phones.
Both phones have to have advanced messaging. It works between my and my wife with our note 5's
anyone else been trying to see if this works or not...
Lol still doesn't work between my brother and i. Both with note 5s. May be it's still "rolling" out to places, ie towers not updated yet
You have to go into contacts and open each contact that has the capability and the video calling and advanced messaging will flip to green. At least that has been my experience to get it to work for my contacts that have the option.

I tried that approach with my note 5, my wife has a galaxy s6. Advanced messaging was working for a bit, but then it stopped.

Mine works fine. I changed nothing, it was just working on day. I like it.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
It works fine for me but sometimes like for a few hours a day it stops working and I have to manually toggle the ready report on/off to get it working again.

I thought it was weird that I could see my wife typing a message on my phone and it only worked for her.
