[Q] [Solved] New Google Camera can't update - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I saw that there's a new camera update available, and I tried to install it from the play store, but it gives me an error saying there's something wrong with the signature and refuses to install. I found an apk elsewhere and tried to install from that, but again, it would be give the an error message saying "an existing package by the same name with a conflicting signature is already installed".
I went to settings->apps->camera and cleared data, force stop, disable, etc, but nothing worked. I was using Jishnu's camera mod, but about a month ago, my camera app stopped working. I did flash it back to stock 4.4.2 found in Jishnu's thread, but still no luck. I even tried to uninstall camera using Titanium, but it couldn't find the apk.
Any ideas?
EDIT
Solved!

Thanks!

Delete the old camera app using a file explorer. It'll be in /system/app/, /data/app/ or maybe even /system/priv-app/

I'm using ES File Explorer with root enabled, but it won't let me delete the GoogleCamera.apk. It says "Read-only file system". Permissions for the file is rw- r-- r--, and won't allow me to change anything about the file at all.
EDIT
Figured out how to delete the apk, but it still wont let me install the new camera...

I downloaded the camera apk from that thread, but still no luck. With the originall GoogleCamera.apk deleted, now I just get a non-specific error saying "Application was not installed"

How I fixed it:
Delete GoogleCamera.apk in /system/apps
Flash the 4.4.2 camera restore found in Jishnu's thread
Camera should work now
Update camera
???
Profit!

Link please
I'm having this exact same problem. I'm running Omnirom, so I thought it was related to that.
Could you please link to the thread you are referring to?

In ES, expand tools, turn on root explorer, and click on root explorer. Change r/w settings so you can delete files

Yeah, really weird!
I couldn't get it to work with any combination of methods. Update from store, update with apk, uninstall and reinstall from store or with apk, nothing!
And today, as i was going to demonstrate to a friend how the update fails, all of a sudden the installation went through! I had downloaded the apk from AndroidPolice and merely went to install it (which had failed about ten times before!) and it worked!
I have no idea what changed, but I'm happy now. Loving the new UI. Simpler, and the new features rock. Just waiting for all the old ones to be brought back.
Battery drain sucks, tho...

how did you fixed it plz tell me

[Fix] Fission Android Market 2.2.6 Force Close Fix

So I just found what appears to be a permanent fix for running the new android 2.2.6 market on Fission. I know others like myself were having a lot of issues with this. I'm on the 2.3.1 build of it.
Note: I have tried clearing cache, updating, etc... and haven't had a single Force Close error!
1) So I downloaded a copy of the market apk from here (I used the first alt link):
http://www.droid-life.com/2010/12/11/download-new-android-market-version-2-2-6-for-all-2-2-phones/
2) Then download the app ZipSigner off of the android market so we can resign the apk.
3) Open zipsigner and type in the location of the android_market.apk that you downloaded.
4) Give the output a new name like android_market-sign.apk
5) Install the new signed market file as you would any other app. It asks you about overwriting but just install it and it will "upgrade" your current app, just install it and it will be successful now.
6) Run the market normally and everything should be good!
Side Note: If you were to have any issues you can also just go to Settings>Applications>Manage Applications->All, find the Market entry and click "Uninstall updates" and it takes you back to the normal 2.2.
Let me know if this works for you guys also!
Works great for me! Love it compared to the old market ..thanks for the fix. Never tried it before but its working fine now. What is the signer program for? Im curious what else it could be used for?

Not workin for me. When try to install I get the "application not installed" warning.

Thanks ... you know, sometimes it's amazing what you (I) can actually do if you only follow directions.. Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Thanks!!!
Sure it is going to help many users
If it does work over time I will post it on FRM.
I swore I signed it and it gave me FCs after a few reboots so maybe I did forget to sign

Just put the Android_Market.apk on the root of your sdcard then change the filepath to: /mnt/sdcard/Android_Market.apk
And change the signed output filepath to: mnt/sdcard/Android_Market_signed.apk
Then go to your sdcard either through file manager or root explorer or astro and just run the apk like you would any other.
I had some trouble to but just typing it in worked and now I have this working great!
With the zipsign update that came today you should just be able to select the file using the built in browser. Just give the output any other name like vending-sign.apk or something. Run the file then from any file browser after its signed.
And im not sure if this helps CM as I only have a droid 2 and just kinda accidentally stumbled on this fix as I was playing around with some other files but it prob should work

What can you accomplish when you zip sign apks?? I did the market fix and it worked well but I wanted to know why they need to be "signed"...can you sign maybe an apk you backed up from an old droid 2 that was rooted and paid for the apk but have a new google account and dont want to pay for it again..would that have them show up in market? Jw?

[Q] How to manually install .apk

I've been trying to install a particular app to my phone, Nexus 4, rooted custom rom, etcetc.
The app in question was pulled from the Play store some time ago and it seems Google went further and removed the free version of the app from users devices without permission as well. I have the pro version as did many others and from what I've read, the pro version was not removed. However I flash roms and eventually lost it and that required a reinstall.
The problem: traditional methods of installing the .apk give the error "App not installed."
How can I install this app manually? The only other method I could think of was to try to root copy it to /system/app but that didn't work. And I'll reiterate, so we're clear, browsing to .apk and installing through explorer by clicking it does not allow the .apk to install. So, suggestions?
You could try sideloading it using Android Injector. (If it fails, it'll tell you why)

Yeah it failed.
The application itself says install successful, but the app cannot be found on the phone.
There are a few websites that allows you to download apps in its apk format. You can install that way. But I'm not sure if its legal. Someone could correct me here.
Please hit Thanks if I helped

The OP stated that this method does not work in this situation.
NB. - It is legal unless the app is warez.

The app isn't warez but it is one of the unapproved apps by google now, I mainly just wanted to look for an alternate method of installing apps in case this kind of app blocking became more prevalent. You have to admit, Google did a real number on blocking this app. Thanks for the help anyway guys.
the command that worked for me was:
adb install app.apk
You can make a folder in /system/app with its name without space as folder name and copy the apk to that folder.
Apk name should be same as the folder name +.apk.
Then reboot your device.
After reboot the app will be definitely installed as a system app. But some apps might be stable but some not.

Yes, there is a flasable zip for 4.2.. and an Apk for 4.1.. I'll get you the links..
http://www.mediafire.com/download/k398w5809uo4b05/Camera_JB+_v1.1.4_apkmania.com.apk (4.1 apk)
http://www.mediafire.com/download/j4w0ljsw04tde8m/4.2Camera_t04.zip (4.2 zip)
These will provide the gallery and camera, just download onto your phone, flash zip for 4.2, for the Apk you simply need to locate the file in you SD (should be downloads folder) and install it, you'll need to allow unknown sources in the security settings for the apk to install.. If you install both, you'll have two cameras and two galleries and there is no way to delete one of the galleries without also deleting the associated camera as well..

It is ok, But when change to secondary cam gives me error message " Unfortunately

[APP][Updated 2015-11-12] HTC One A9 Camera/Gallery/Editor for Marshmallow GPE

I pulled the Camera (Camera2), Gallery (HMS_Gallery_GP) and Photo Editor (HMS_PhotoEnhancer_GP) apps from LlabTooFeR's A9 dump (link). I wanted to see if they'd work on my GPE-converted HTC One M8 running Android Marshmallow 6.0 (MRA58K).
Update: I've uploaded a new version that I hope works without needing to flash the APK afterwards. Additionally, at least for me, the Photo Editor is now working, including some of the Duo effects that haven't worked on my GPE for a long time. UFocus and Foregrounder don't appear to be working correctly, but at least they don't FC.
Flashable zip. I use TWRP2. Root is required.
Please note: It's been pointed out to me that the standard GPE image leaves very little space in the system partition. Not enough for the HTC apps, which are sort of large. If you're seeing that the zip isn't flashing correctly, please clear some space on your system partition (removing unwanted System G/Apps), before flashing.
Thanks to Arkaydez for some debugging.
Thanks to danial.aw for pointing out issues with GPE system partition size.
Post back with your experience. I'd like to know if it's working for everyone.
Download (Version 2)
Just flashed, Camera app showed up but force closes. Neither the Gallery or Editor app are installed.

Thanks for giving it a try and feeding back. Feeling like helping me debug it?
Here's my experience when I flash it:
- When the phone restarts, there is a permission request waiting for the Gallery app.
- When you start the camera app, it requests three permissions.
- The applications and their associated libraries are installed to:
/system/priv-app/Camera2/
/system/priv-app/HMS_Gallery_GP/
/system/priv-app/HMS_PhotoEnhancer_GP/
Does your experience reflect that?
Thanks!
2 days ago I just downloaded this A9 camera from Google Play. It installed normally, for first run it asked for permission and work great. But every next open cause FC. Anyway, I think that original camera app from M8 is better, it is also to download from GP and doesn't FC.
I flashed the zip and Apps isnt shown in the menu. So I opened the zip and installed the apk's manually. Camera and Photo Editor gave FC. Gallery is opened but didnt show any pic.
Didnt work for me.
My rom is GPE Android 6.0 - Build MRA58K.H6

You can't install the apks manually, unfortunately. They need to go into priv-app, since they require system permissions. That's what's causing the FCs. If you've installed them, and they're sitting in /system/app, you can move them (root explorer, etc.) to /system/priv-app. Then at least the camera and gallery should work.

Interesting. Unfortunately, for me, when I go to Google Play, it tells me that both versions of the HTC camera (Camera and Camera2) are incompatible with my phone and won't let me install. I assumed that's because it was a GPE. If you download and install from APK Mirror, or install it from the market somehow, I think that it puts the APKs and libraries into /system/app, which will cause it to FC. The camera assumes it's pre-installed into /system/priv-app, and is therefore entitled to system permissions. When it's installed to /system/app, it makes system storage calls, which aren't allowed, and FCs.
That's why I thought the flashable zip would be the way to go.
I was able to avoid all the FC's by 1st flashing your zip and then installing the a9 cam apk from apk mirror. b

Thanks for that. I had previously installed the APK from APK mirror, so maybe there's some secret sauce missing from the zip. Does the Photo Editor work for you now, or does it still FC?

i installed the zip file .and then the file from apkmirror .The camera isn't FC-ing. but it doesn't save any picture when i take one. can it be due to converting my SD into internal ?
also, when i click "reset to default". it starts FC-ing

I'm not sure. Have you tried the new (v2) zip? Did it prompt you for permissions for storage? The camera should have prompted you for 4 permissions, and the gallery for 1.

Snapchat on rooted devices without Xposed (Nougat)

Hi, So i recently bought a nexus 6p and I rooted it as one of the first things. I then found out I was running Nougat, and Xposed wasn't out yet. Many apps blocks the use of the app if you are rooted fx. Snapchat. But I found a way around without using a Xposed mod fx. 'root cloak'.
All you have to do:
1. Download Root Browser, by JRummy Apps Inc. or any other app of the same kind
2. navigate to /vendor/lib/
3. Locate the file named "liboemcrypto.so"
4. Rename the file to "liboemcrypto.so.bak"
5. power off the device and boot it normally up, and then Snapchat should be working again:good:
If I posted this in the wrong thread, sorry it my first post
#EDIT 1
6. Login to Snapchat
7. Rename "liboemcrypto.so.bak" to "liboemcrypto.so" (original name)
8. power off the device and boot it normally up. Then Snapchat should still be working, and you will not get any errors in other apps

I'm getting a "operation failed" message every time I try to change this. I've tried root browser and amaze file manager, and got the same message both times. Each has superuser permissions. Is there a fix for this?
Thankssss! Love you!
Okay so yesterday I started getting errors, Spotify not playing any sound, Facebook videos not loading, Facebook messenger call not working. One week after I changed the name of the file, so I decided to change it back to see if it was the file that was causing the problems. After I renamed it back to original, and then I had no errors with the other apps and Snapchat is still logged in and working.
So I recommend to change the file to .bak, reboot, login in Snapchat. Change the file back, reboot and then there shouldn't be any problems:good:

Simplest way to use SnapChat on the rooted phone.
Step 1: Unroot (In SuperSU, click Full Unroot and restart)
Step 2: (After the reboot) Install Snapchat
Step 3: Log in
Step 4: Go to TWRP/CWM and flash SUPERSU
Step 5: Open Beer
You now have SNAPCHAT working on a rooted phone.
I have tried all of these methods, with or without Xposed. Impossible to get it to work on my htc one m7. Anyone have experience on the same device? and NO Casper is not an option!! Thanks
