Easiest way to upload boot screen/animations

So i was looking around at other boot aanimation forums and stumbled across one over at android forums about a super easy way to get boot animations loaded....I was shocked when i decided to be the test puppet myself and it worked.
1. Download PutYourBootHERE.zip from http://rghost.net/1680923
2. Unzip the folder to what ever directory you want "c:\PutYourBootHERE". It should contain an adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll, and a RunME file.
3. Place what ever bootanimation.zip in the same folder that you just unzipped.
4. Click on RunMe.
5. It will give you some "press Y to continue at your own risk or N for No" prompt. press Y and hit enter.
6. You will see now that you have options to reboot, reboot in recovery, copy boot to phone, and exit. Choose option 3-copy boot to phone
7. Your going to go through checklist to make sure your phone is plugged in, in debug, you put bootanimation.zip in the folder, and you have a copy. Press any key to continue.
8. It will ask you if you want to reboot your phone after the process is complete. I do just to make sure everything copied properly.
CROSS YOUR FINGERS AND PREY SHE WORKED.

Just try it and it worked. Although this will not upload your sound animation. It will do the boot alone . Perhaps a tiny tune for that part will make the batch perfect

I like how I tried this method, and it did change my boot screen, but it also ****ed with my boot sound and it also pushes it to a different folder...

It just got rid of my boot sound all together(which is fine with me).
Also what folder do you look in? I find it in the /system/media folder.

well the thing posted above pushes it to the data local folder or whatever
I had to delete the stuff out of there because I was using the evos stock location of /system/customize/resource

so does this method work with custom ROMS or it will place the zip in the wrong location ... can u just copy the ZIP to the correct folder in root explorer?

No offense to the OP because at that time it was the easiest way but now with NAND unlocked.
Launch root explorer..copy the bootanimation.zip and audio file if it has one and then go into the correct folder and delete the old and paste the new in.
Done..i dont see how it can get easier then that.

this is true .. just need to know which folder to send it to ... for example in the fresh ROM

first you want to check /system/customize/resource/ because thats where the default one is at..fresh probably got rid of it already..
as long as its gone from there start using /system/media/ for the location.

what if i dont have that folder?? Im running the newest edition of Fresh

load boot animations without being in recovery(must be rooted)

I was messing around with root explorer and noticed that i was able to delete my boot animation with it when i was mounted as R/W so i thought i would try to copy one and it also works... so no need to push with adb shell.. here are the steps
1. take the boot animation make sure it is named bootanimation.zip and copy it to your SD card
2. then open root explore and mount R/W and then navigate to the file and press on file till the menu comes up and select copy
3. then navigate to data/local and paste the file in the local directory
and you are done, this can be done with the android_audio.mp3 file as well just paste it to the same place.
just thought this would make it easier for people instead of using adb shell

The Animation worked but the Audio didn't, do you also need to put the Audio in a zip file?

I didn't think that you needed root to access /data/
So in that case, would need Root Explorer? Wouldn't any file manager do?

Yeah, you dont need root access at all for this.
just adb push bootanimation.zip /data/local/

need to look at the text file in your bootanimations.zip and add the words android to the front of the text in that file

[Q] Droid X BootAnimations

I been trying to change my boot animation and I cant seem to get it right
I have downloaded "Boot Animation Changer LITE" and tried to change it. Now i have a different Droid boot animation that I do not want.
How can I change my boot animation with out these apps??
Also how to i revert to my old boot animation, I have a backup
ps. Im rooted on the Droid X 2.2

Bump. I would like to know this as well. I wonder if it is the same as the first Droid. Just replacing the bootanimation.zip file. Can anyone second?

I think the easiest way to do so is to flash an update.zip...
Point me in the direction of your original boot anim and I might be able to fashion up an update.zip for you.
Unless I'm missing something, the Droid X doesn't have read/write access to /system while the phone is on in Android...Is that still the case?

Maltadev, here are the two boot animations you requested. They are in the same order as you posted.
Tell me if it works for ya.
Just to be safe, do a Nandroid backup before you flash these. You could probably use ROM Manager too, but IDK.

I did this:
1. Paste bootanimation.zip to sd card.
2. Open a terminal and put in these commands
su
mount -o remount ,rw /system/
rm /system/media/bootanimation.zip -f
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /system/media

I will flush those updates for you though, just to see if they work =)

I tried renaming it to androidupdate.zip, but when I select "Install Update" in the menu it keeps looking for an "androidupdate.tar", and says "File not found".
Could you recompress it to .tar?

Ahh sorry I misunderstood you - I didn't install any 3rd party programs, I just put the file in /andboot folder and when I rebooted I held the centerdpad and hit "Install Update"...

Do you know how to boot into recovery? That is what I'm talking about.
These bootanimations should be flashable via recovery. You need to manually select and update.zip like bootanimation1-signed.zip and confirm. It shouldn't throw any errors. If it works, reboot and watch your new animation.

Will not Boot into CWM

Ive been trying to install Glorious overdose for three days now and no matter what I do, I cant get my SK4G to boot into CWM, im rooted, have rom manager and have the zip for GO 3.3 in my root folder but it just seems to boot to normal recovery no matter what I do, any help please? I read that rom manager doesnt work, is that still true?

Have you overwritten the stock recovery file on your phone? You'll need a file manager that can use SU in addition to root access. Also, you'll need to mount your internal storage as rw in order to overwrite the stock recovery using the root file manager of your choice.

Alright, bear with me I am a mega noob, I pick up on thigns fast though.
I have ES File explorer, and downloaded total commander, I tried to overwrite the recovery file in the system/bin and it says SU error, only giving me the option to Skip "failed /mnt/sdcard/sdcard" cross device link
Im not really sure how to mount/ unmount

I would download Ghost Commander from Google Play. It supports SU mode and is free. Most options to do anything can be accessed through the menu key. You'll have to enable root/SU mode in Ghost Commander since it's not enabled by default. Plus, you'll need to copy the file in that app and mount the file system as rw- (read-write). I forget the folder off-hand where the recovery is located at. *Standard Disclaimer*: Do these things at your own risk.

See, I still have no idea how to mount or unmount lol. And Ill try that, thanks
I moved file to bin with the ghost commander app, it had a #rw next to the bin folder name. Now how to check mounts?

I'm guessing you are referring to checking mounts during ROM installation? That is done in CWM itself. If it says # means you have root and if it says rw means you have read and write capabilities. Once you have that, move the recovery.bin you downloaded from krylon and move it to system. It should ask you if you want to replace existing recovery. Then once thats there and you have the update zip on the root (main part of your SD card, not a folder or anything), go into normal Samsung recovery and reinstall. Should take you to CWM if you moved recovery correctly! Thats when you need to check mounts.

I haven't used Ghost Commander, but I downloaded the free version of SuperManager 3.0 to move the recovery file.
If you use SuperManager, you just go to the file manager (slide to screen 4, top left), you will start out in MNT/SDCARD. First, click the menu button and choose "setup." You will see "ROOT" and click on it, check "Enable ROOT function" then you will be promoted by SuperUser [su] to allow access, hit yes. Back out of the menu so that you are back to the SDCard [note: sometimes you find that you are in the system file after enabling root, if so scroll to the top and click 'Back up level folder' then choose 'SDCard' If you get a popup which says "Switch system r/w" at the top, choose "R/W"].
Once back at MNT/SDCARD, scroll to the recovery file, click and hit 'copy'. Scroll back to the top and click 'Back up level folder' until you are back where the "system" file is located - top where it read "MNT/SDCARD" will read "/ (R/O)" or "/ (R/W)" and if it only shows "/" then you need to enable ROOT still. If it shows "(R/O)" at this level, that is okay. Scroll to "system" [if you have already been promoted to choose "R/W" you will likely notice that the top reads "/SYSTEM (R/W)"] and click to enter, click "bin" to enter, click "paste." If you have not already been promoted to do so, you will be promoted to change directory to R/W [read/wright, versus R/O read only]. If it asks about replacing the file, choose whichever option replaces the file, you do not want to save with a different file name.
If you are using a different file manager, you may find the process very similar. Good luck! Glorious Overdose is a good ROM [though I have not used v.3, I have used v.2 and really enjoy it].

[Q] Boot animation freeze

So I changed the boot animation to something different. The animation is so heavy the phone lags halfway in between and now my phone can't even get past the boot animation screen. It's stuck at the boot animation. Anyway to revert this?

Scroll down a bit and you'll find the default Lollipop animation. Download the zip which is supposed to be manually installed.
Put it in system/media/bootanimation.zip
You can use Aroma File Manager for this. AromaFM is a flashable zip which brings up a file manager in your recovery

I can't even access my phone's storage so how am I suppose to use the zip? Are you saying I can flash the zip file while the phone is in fastboot/recovery?

If you're using TWRP as a recovery you can access your storage. It does support MTP.
Yeah, the file manager has to be flashed just like a ROM.

And that's the problem. I'm running a stock rom (4.4.2) with no TWRP or CWM.
The phone is rooted and the boot-loader is unlocked.

Bootloader unlocked. So where's the problem?
Download latest TWRP and execute
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
to flash it.
Or simply
fastboot boot twrp.img
to launch it once. You don't even need to flash it.

AYEEEEE!!! I see where you're going with this now. I think I get it now. I'll try tonight or maybe in a couple of hours and then I'll come back if any problems. Once finished I'll let you know with a thanks

By the way: After copying the new (default lollipop) bootanimation.zip to /system/media do a 'fix permissions' in TWRP. Not quite sure if the option is available in TWRP but if it is, just do it. It won't do any harm

Alright I flashed TWRP and it's working but the file manager kinda sucks. I mean it's picking up the files and their aren't any options to copy and paste. The boot animation is stored in /system/media and when I go into the system folder all I see is "bin" and nothing else. I don't understand what's the problem

Man, the file manager does not suck. A little more respect to the developer! You should be thankful, not disrespectful!
Enable hidden files in the file manager and you'll see them. And it also does provide copy/paste functionality. I've used it several times.
EDIT: If you still don't see them after enabling hidden files you have to mount the system partition.

I searched everywhere and I don't see an option to enable hidden files. How did you enable hidden files?

It's in the lower right corner if I remember correctly. Three dots which will bring up a menu.

What version of TWRP are you using? I don't see three dots anywhere. The bottom always has a back button on the right, a button to launch terminal in the center and a home button on the left

Dude. It has nothing to do with TWRP version at all. You didn't even launch Aroma File Manager... that's the point.

Sorry for being impatient.
Do I flash Aroma the same way I flashed TWRP? If so will this cause any problems or anything? TWRP can't install Aroma from SD because my computer won't even pick up my phone

If you're in TWRP, connect your phone to your computer. It should be detected just like any Android phone since it's also using MTP.
Aroma File Manager has to be flashed in TWRP (install zip). That's why you had to flash TWRP in the first place.

Better yet as soon as I connected my phone to my PC, TWRP's file manager started working. I deleted the corrupted bootanimation.zip that made my phone lag in the first place. However it keeps failing to move the other bootanimation.zip into /system/media (I backed up the stock boot in /system/media by renaming it
EDIT: Never-mind I got it. I renamed the file from 0bootanimation.zip to "android" and then to bootanimation.zip
I restarted my phone and it's just stuck in the boot loop. The animation is occurring forever and nevermind it just started.

As said before... TWRP uses MTP to enable file transfer between your computer and your phone. However, you'll only see your internal storage (pictures, videos and stuff like that) - not the system partition. That's why you should use Aroma File Manager! It lets you access the system partition directly on the phone and provides everything you need (copy/paste/delete and so on).
I have no idea what file you actually deleted. But I'm pretty sure it was not the one in /system/media.

And that's the most weird part of all...
1) TWRP file manager started working as soon as I connected my phone to my PC. I didn't need to flash AromaFM. TWRP worked like a charm
2) I deleted the laggy bootanimation.zip and replaced it with the stock one I backed up. I backed up the stock animation by renaming it to a different file. However TWRP always failed to rename the stock animation to bootanimation.zip. So I renamed it entirely different (to android) and then back to bootanimation.zip and it worked like a charm.
Does that make sense now? I don't know what the hell just happened but I ain't complaining
