Say, if I am running 4.4.2, rooted and running a custom ROM, cataclysm and a kernel. Do I need to revert back to stock and update, or can I just flash a 4.4.3 ROM to get 4.4.3 (and the custom rom settings)?

I`am sure Cataclysm`s dev and the other rom devs will update their roms to 4.4.3 within a few days after the release. Or just flash the 4.4.3 rom from here https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images?hl=nl when its posted and reroot.
Just wait for cataclysm to update and dirty flash. Its not like 4.4.3 is going to show any of us any noticeable difference in performance except maybe the camera leak for some which I do not have.
Reading that 4.4.3 sticky makes my head hurt its like come on guys you've been at this for a while or should have read everything you need to know.

I new to the Nexus 5, I used to to used the HTC One and on the One I could flashed ROM, radio, and firmware. I know that Google will soon release Android 4.4.3. Currently I have my Nexus 5 rooted with TWRP and PA. On my old One what I did when HTC released 4.4.2 update, was I flashed the phone back to stock (with S-OFF) get the update then rerooted with a custom ROM so that I can have the latest firmware. My question is that will I have to do the same thing too? Does the Nexus 5 even have a firmware update? If the new update does contain a new firmware can I used the method I used on the One? Or can I just update my PA ROM to 4.4.3 and be done?
Thanks for the help, I am just confused right now.

Take a look at the N5 OTA help desk, it will have the answers that you need.

pa will add 4.4.3 into the rom when the code gets released. all youll have to do is update your pa rom when they release it.

Thank you for the info.
My dad has a Droid Razr Maxx HD and I currently have the bootloader unlocked and a custom Recovery and Rom on there.
He keeps having problems with whatever ROM I put on (forgot by now) and I'd like to put him back to stock or a ROM that based on stock system.
What version of Android is stock on now? I read that they will be rolling out a 4.4 upgrade sometime soon.
Any advice on which ROM to use or how to restore to stock?
Thanks

You should use RSD Lite and go back to this version: http://sbf.droid-developers.org/download.php?device=5&file=75

Ah, that's a useful site. Thanks.
If you had to choose a 4.4.2 ROM, which would you choose?
Also, what version of RSDLite?

I am partial to CyanogenMod myself. I think CM 11 is at a point now you could use it daily. They have an "M" build out there for it currently which they consider as stable as can be at the time and they allow bug reports on it.
One thing to take into consideration about these roms is they are all using the drivers from the 4.1.2 build thats official for the phone. All of them are waiting on the 4.4.2 update being released to have current Android 4.4 drivers tested to work for the device.
In a nutshell expect some sort of buggyness on roms but especially with custom roms on devices that are using old 4.1 based drivers.
Thanks again. I'll stick with Stock for my dad. I told him to get the HTC One M8 since he can't get the Nexus 5 for Verizon.
He'll be happy soon enough!
So hey guys I am having a problem. I tried flashing Pink and Render kernel. Both times, instead of the bootanimation, the screen is a little pink, and then it goes to black. A user told me that I needed to flash the 4.3 stock firmware because there was some compatibility issue with the 4.4 bootloader. The problem is, I don't know which firmware to download I have the global gsm version (xt1032) with an AT&T US sim card. So how do I choose the stock firmware? Please I want to use a kernel

i assume that you are on stock 4.4 before flashing kernel.
Pink and Render kernel does not work on stock roms that is why you are getting pink screens. both are meant only for cm based roms
if you want custom kernel then i recommend you to flash faux kernel or Aerokernel.(Only for stock roms)
you need not flash 4.3 firmware.

But in the Render kernel thread, it says it's for cm and AOSP ROMs. Is Ehndroix aosp or cm based? I still get the pink screen. Thanks for answering

I agree no need to Go to 4.3
You should stick to 4.4.2
Ehndroix is CM11 Based, So Kernel should have worked.
I don't know why they are not working
You can try another ROMs which are based on AOSP for the kernel
C-Rom or LEGO Rom
You could also try other kernels like Furnace or Faux123's Kernel
Still If you think You should go back to 4.3 The firmware is here(AWS version) and here(non-AWS firmware)
I still highly suggest against 4.3 Stick to 4.4.2

Cool,
Just for further Knowledge!
AWS is Advanced Wireless System. That runs on 1700MHz frequency. Mostly T-mobile in USA uses AWS to provide HSPA+ network.
Yours is AT&T so your phone will work OK with non-AWS retail!

To be able to flash into a Kitkat Stock-based ROM or KatKiss 5.0.1? I need to stick with stock based so my flashed touch firmware will stay.
If someone could link me to the proper tutorials/guides that would be great.

In order to use the new KitKat ROMs, you actually have to upgrade to the latest stock firmware (JB 4.2). The new TWRP and ROMs require the newer bootloader. I'm not that familiar with the touch firmware and how that works, but I'm not sure if that is upgradable too?
First OTA to 4.2, then install any recovery (see Question and answer section) and then flash ROM.
I just want to get this straight before I do anything rash. In order to install a custom rom ie MOAR on my sm-900p if the rom says 5.0.2 does my android version have to be the same or can it be 5.0 and still work without bricking? Along these same lines, is it possible to downgrade to 4.4.4 via the stock room and will there be any issues? I have also read about leaked stuff like I am running 5.0 and if I wanted to somehow get a leaked 5.0.2 rom how does this work?
Thanks in advance.

If you want to install MOAR, check the MOAR FAQ and it should answer all you questions. Post#2 is a step by step on installing. Recommend you stay away from leaked versions until you're more comfortable about how to get out of a problem. MOAR 6.0 is based on the official Lollipop release. If you have any MOAR questions after you've read the instructions, feel free to post on that thread.

Ty for the response, but, I already realize that there is a rom for 5.0 it was just an example. I really wanted to know about the android versions and if they have to be the same ie can I flash a rom that is for 5.0.2 even though my android version is 5.0?

Yes you can. You can also go back to 4.4.x but it requires flashing firmware back for Kitkat.
