So in the latest update, you will get "ok google" while in the google search app.
With this launcher, it gets even better, you install it, and you can use "ok google" right from the home screen.
To make it work, just install the latest google search from play store, then download and install this apk:

awesome, thanks!
Thanks for this! Came from the GNex and missed this launcher from the Kit Kat ROMs. Loved being able to voice activate Google Now from the home screen and swiping to access Google Now. Only thing that doesn't work it with this launcher is Knock Knock to turn the screen off (Knock On works). I created a workaround with Tasker where if I shake the phone left or right, it turns off the screen. Almost like having Kit Kat
very good, thank you
There are some apps that will give you the knock off feel if you want it.

I found a pretty good workaround for that. If you have G2 exposed installed (requires exposed framework, needs root) you can map the 'long press' for any button to lock screen. Just holding whichever button is easiest to reach to lock works nicely. I wish the google experience launcher would support gestures, as we can always download the free 'screen off and lock' app and map a gesture to that too like I do in Nova launcher.
Both this KK Home launcher and Nova can utilize the "Knock Off" feature by simply double-tapping a blank area on the notification bar. This is the default behavior and no setup is required to invoke.
Thanks for making this available, OP!

Thanks! Did not know that. I can use that with the phone laying down. Unfortunately, my hands aren't big enough to reach the notification bar during one handed operation, so the Tasker workaround works better for me in that situation.

I haven't rooted yet. Maybe I'll try it if I do, but haven't really had the urge to do so. Came from a GNex where I crack flashed constantly, but ended up using a stock ROM when I discovered Tasker.

it doesnt seem to show my missed calls or text count on the icons though which is a bummer when you unlock your phone. anybody else having this problem? i missed a call and didnt even know it until i got a voicemail popup in my notification window
Anyone else getting a high mediaserver wakelock with this launcher? I'm assuming it's because of the always listening Google Now on the homescreens. Mediaserver was using at least 15% of the battery on this launcher. Switched to Nova and mediaserver is down to 1%.
I have the latest Google search app installed and the "okay Google" isn't working for me. I'm on AEON ROM v3. What am I doing wrong?

You need to set the language to "English (United Kingdom)"
You must know Google launcher only works in English US ..under Google now settings

I made a tasker app to solve the music not starting using touchless control. At least it won't start for some of us.
I made it how I want it to work anyway.
Install the app. It will be called "Shuffle".
Do your ok Google now or whatever you say to open touchless control.
Say "open shuffle"
The app will be opened. It opens Google music, starts playing music on shuffle mode. Then goes back to your home screen. Then I use Bluetooth to control it...like next track and whatever. Or you can drag down the status bar and control it that way.
Works great for me! Thought I'd share it with those interested.
Of course you don't need tasker, cause it's an app now. But you do need root and have to grant it root permission. Don't know why....tasker just makes it that way it seems.
Enjoy.

Hey,
I downloaded this and tried it out and it didn't work for me. It opens Google Play but it doesn't actually work from there. I live in Canada, could that be why?
EDIT: I got it to work once but it hasn't worked since.

I'm in Canada. Does Google music app see your songs? Its worked for me consistently.
When it doesn't work...what does it do...?

What does the actual Tasker task look like? Tried making something similar, but was only able to clumsily pull something off using emulated screen touches.
Yeah, that's what I did. One down, one right, one press. Then home key...to go back to main screen.

I have Google Play Music All Access in Canada so that might be the reason why it isn't working. Here's what happens when I open the application.
It opens Google Play Music, Opens the sidebar and that's basically it.

If you have tasker....you probably need to pay around with the up down right..etc. dpad moves.
All mine does is open Google music and click the shuffle all "button"....nothing opens, music starts and Google just goes away and you are back to your home screen.

Anybody know of any launchers out there that integrate Google Now? I'd like to customize, but I like saying OK, Google (as cheesy as that sounds)

Don't think it's gonna happen.
KK Launcher is the only launcher I have seen to incorporate Google Now in any way. It launches Google Now when you scroll all the way to the left, but that's it.

As long as you keep the stock setting of swiping up on the home key to access Google Now, you're really only talking about a second or two to access the "Ok Google" feature.
Additionally, if you'd like to have the mic aware and listening constantly, I'd suggest the XDA link below. This way, you can have that feature available regardless of which launcher you're running.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2404613
From what I read, it's only the stock launcher that can have the active listening.
Only reason I read about this was because I googled why it stopped once I installed Nova Launcher.
Motox Dev. Stock 4.4.3
On the all apps tab i can see one native app called sound recorder, version 4.4.3-23.
Yet it is nowhere to be found. It's not disabled. Already tried the stock and an alternative home screen app.
Also tried to add a activity shortcut on hone screen to see if it appeared on the list. Nothing.
Where is it?
Sent from my XT1053 using XDA Free mobile app
Have you tried to see on settings => Applications
Normally you will find all of your apps into your device.
If you need more technical infos go to Moto X Q&A
That's exactly my point.
I can see the stock rom sound recorder app in settings-applications-all.
But nowhere else!
Sent from my XT1053 using XDA Free mobile app
There is no sound recorder stand alone app. The sound recorder app they see in settings, apps, all....is just a sub-app of Google, for Google now and whatnot.
Its the same on moto x and N5.

I found this tutorial and decided to make a video of it for you.It would work only with snapdragon 800 devices running Kitkat 4.4+ and rooted. This won't work otherwise at the moment.Make sure you update to the latest play services and Google search apps.

I'm on ls980 works great! Thanks! I've been waiting so long for this feature!
Works fine with T-mobile 801
German language?
Anyone get this working on cloudyfa's G3 port? I've tried installing the updated Google play services (5.0.88) but it won't install. I was able to get it to work on Mahdi's 6/28 ROM with no problem.
Word of warning this broke alarms for me. Just made them silently dismiss themselves.

Why can't I find these options?
I downloaded the apk files and ran UTG but I don't have the option to force close google search. It just shows me app info. What am I doing wrong?
EDIT: I finally got it to force close. had to go to Apps/All/Goggle and force close that way if anyone runs into the same issue.
Seems like this would create a wake lock and cause battery drain

works well for me on Eng Lang.
Has anyone tried this on the ATT version?
I did everything you said but when I get here to say "OK Google 3 times it wont listen to the first one.
With it force activated via language change etc, the camera will not record video, saying 'unable to record video while in call'. Untick the option for every screen listening and the camera is able to record once again.
So seems like it always listening makes the camera think it is permanently in a phone call. Annoying.
Sorry if it's mentioned already.
Make sure to disable LG "On Screen Phone" if you use it That's what stopped it working on my G2 (International)
Works perfectly on vs980 running cloudyfa g3 rom. Thank you!
