[Q] Titanium Backup: (filter) labels are not restored

I checked the "Auto-sync TB settings"
Then do a full wipe, reinstall TB (or launch the TB included in the ROM) and re-check that check box ... and
NOTHING
My filter labels don't reappear.
Everything else works fine, how does that setting work, is there a file on the SD card somewhere that I can check to see if TB created it fine?
I have the paid version and am now using 3.0.0.7 on Starburst 1.2.1
After 4 times re-classifying 300 apps I'd really like to solve this, what am I doing wrong, what can I check to make sure those settings are saved?
It is really hindering my ROM installations ;-)

Since no-one seems to have this problem I did some investigating myself and found a database called "custom" in /data/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/databases/ this seems to hold the filter information, I'll be keeping a copy of that next time I do a full wipe in case that "Sync" setting doesn't work again.

Nice Find dude! I was looking for a solution and you got it!

Lately it has been working well for me.
I've also found where the backup on the SD card is, it is in:
[sdcard]/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/
Here is a settings directory with the labels db and all settings and it also has a licensing file so that a fresh install knows you have the paid version without having to connect to the Market.

But i don't understand how to solve the exact same problem as you had before. I know that this directory exists and the labels are saved there (/data/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup/databases/).
You make a backup of this folder on the SD card and after wiping your mobile phone you restore this folder and start TB afterwards?

EDIT: At least i found a workaround for me. Seems like TB overwrites the Sync folder. Therefor i've installed a ROM (after wiping), installed Titanium Backup, made all my settings (encryption, labels, pro key, dropbox settings) and made a ROM backup with ROM Manager. It's not what i want. But i can live with that for now.

I wrote the TB support and they've requested some additional information. I hope they will fix it.
The support said TB has problems with dual sd devices.
I own a HTC Desize Z which is not a dual sd device.

1 - Replace files in SDCard\data\com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup\settings\ with your backup.
2 - Wipe Titanium data
3 - Start Titanium ..
Thinking it is it first start it will restore settings... don't know why it do not work the first time after flashing...

hi, guys, I found another app can restore TB's settings.
Delta Backup(market.android.com/details?id=com.ds.deltabackup)
u can use Delta Backup to backup "Titanium Backup".
When reinstall TB, just use Delta Backup to restore TB.
It works!

This works - THANKS! Luckily, I had backed up /sdcard/data before the wipe.
Easy enough to have a script to do this, or TB can add a feature to copy /sdcard/data/com.keramidas.TB to /sdcard/data-backup/com.keramidas.TB whenever the app exits or is terminated, then look for that directory during its first start.

Unfortunately it seems we are a tiny minority. Theres practically no info on label deletion online or in the wiki. This used to happen often when I was flashing almost weekly but I haven't changed ROMs in a while and a sense rom I just tried had a modified TB included and it deleted my highly detailed labels. It should at least keep a cache of the old setting temporarily. Even my iPad does that in cydia when you change a plist. Gonna try restoring a nandroid with sdext, super outdated though. Kinda ridiculous that a great backup app's greatest weakness is backing itself up. I still get occasional licensing issues too so who knows.
Anyone happen to know a way to restore recently overwritten data either in the phone data/data or sd/data?

That's really weird. And the TB support doesn't even know what I'm talking about. After it got too complicated for them, they stopped writing me. Maybe someone should write them again and show TB support this topic.
I'm trying to fix this issue with symlinks. I will create a backed up ROM with ROM Manager where the database file links directly to my sdcard. I think this should work.

Thanks man, this saved my problem.
The SD-Card in the SGS3 is in mnt/extSdCard, which means I also had to change the path for the backup folder to get it working.
There is also the possibility to manually import these settings to TB by opening the files in SDCard\data\com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup\settings\.

I agree. This is probably the most straightforward approach.
Although..., I have to say, the the last time that I re-installed a fresh (from the Market) not an apk on my sd (my normal M.O) my labels were restored. Who knows!
Oh and as far as TiBu even knowing of or handling this issue, I still haven't heard anything from them after writing to them.
I guess every great warrior has a weakness.

Thank you fixed it for me

I was having this problem after including titanium backup in my rom. I think the problem is this:
System apps are allowed to start at boot (user apps aren't until they have been run at least once by the user)
Titanium backup starts at boot to check it if it needs to schedule any tasks
Sometimes this will happen on the first boot and before the sdcard has mounted, and it will fail to load the settings.
When you later run it yourself it will wipe the previous settings from the sdcard.
For now to get around this each time you install a new rom which includes titanium backup you can go in to settings and force close / clear data before you run it for the first time. Your previous settings should still be on the sdcard and will now be imported.
I will contact the developer about this - hopefully it wouldn't take much to fix.
[Edit] Thinking about it, pre-ics the boot permissions weren't enforced so this might happen with it installed as a user app too if you reboot before running it.

1-there are 2 copies of the "data\com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup"
One on the internal memory and one in the external memory. Which one I back up and later over write .
2-How do I wipe titanium data?
Sorry if the questions sound stupid but I am stuck

Does anyone know if these problems we are having are due to the fact that some devices have both internal and external sdcards? (like the transformer family)
In preferences we are able to change the location of the back up copies but not the location of the titanium back up user configuration (labels, profiles, set up...)
Every time I have tried to use TB I end up loosing my TB configuration... quite annoying!

Apps Organizer
An easy way to restore your labels in Titanium Backup (TB) is to use the recommended program Apps Organizer (AO) .

Assign labels using AO and you can see and use them to filter TB. Export the labels from AO. In your new ROM install AO and Import the labels. You will see them in TB in your new ROM and can use them to filter.

AO is helpful. I just restore AO with Data. Some things AO does not, tasker plugins for example.
It is ironic TiBU doesn't have a straightforward way to backup its settings.

[Q] Seamless move to different ROM with help of Titanium (how to?)

OK, so i have one mod and now i want to migrate to another mod.
I have a paid Titanium backup app and i know how to restore apps and their data, but i have a few questions:
1. i have customized my Titanium by having filters and backup schedules, how do i transfer these things to new mod? Reinstalling this app will get these settings lost
2. on a new mod - destination mod, how do i properly restore all the apps? Do i set to recover missing apps and app data only?
3. is it possible to get all the widgets and shortcuts on screens like i had before?

Not using titanium, but an easy way to back up your apps, and restore them on a new rom
If you download ext4 recovery from the market.
Find it on your phone install recovery touch beta 8
Do a backup of your current rom, and then when you flash a new rom.
Go back to recovery, choose restore
advance restore
restore only data.
It will restore all your apps etc, but keep the new rom.

Thank you, but still, there should be some other way to do that, since i might not restore all the apps, but just some of them, and i really want to have Titanium installed with the custom settings i as already use

As I understand Titanium backs up its own settings to he sd card. At least that's what mine does, I don't remember if I had to enable that in the settings though

Yeah, you have to enable it in the tb settings, otherwise it won't backup your tb settings.

I wouldn't rely on Titanium specially if you have ICS. I would use nandroid or CWM backup and restore data. You will get your Titanium as is too. You can always delete unwanted apps but if you can't restore that a diffrent story.

Im not 100%, but i think so

I'm not an expert but had done a few restore now after trying ics n goin back to gb. So with titanium, u do a restore missing apps n data...u can still deselect the app u don't want to restore
After that, u can restore some system data (in green) individually which includes ur txt msg, account info. Some can mess things up..like I restore the bookmark from gb to ics, n it crash in ics when opening bookmark
But others seems ok. To get all ur icons organized like b4, I restored the desktop one....these shld all b done just for the data if u r given a choice.
That's kinda my experience n it seems to b working ok now after I restore back to gb

Anyone ever tried nandroid backup with gingerbread, then upgrading to ICS and then trying to restore the data partition?
I'm only asking because in this case (my case) most of the restored apps keep FC-ing. Everything else is restored perfectly - call lists, sms, mms, contacts list, favourite lists, backgrounds, sounds, ringtones... - you name it, it's there. So everything besides a lot of apps after restoring from nandroid works perfect even after upgrading from GB to ICS.
SO... any suggestions how to fix the apps FCs problem restoring from nandroid data partition? Thanx

Yes you can save titanium setting to ad card and it will restore by itself. Go to preference and tick first option auto synchronized TB setting. All done

1. you could always use a secondary backup app like System Tuner Pro to backup your applications (particularly Titanium backup) then installing System Tuner Pro first then use it to Restore Titanium to the right working order.

I don't think it is a good idea restoring GB data partition onto ICS. It is known to screw up the system/applications. Your applications need to be optimised so if you flashed it, the optimisation process may be skipped or cancelled out when you flash the data partition.

Is it safe to restore app data when switching ROMs?

If I backed up apps and data on an AOSP ROM and want to restore them on a JB ROM, for example, is it safe to restore app data through Titanium Backup? For whatever reason, Titanium Backup doesn't seem to offer an option to batch restore apps WITHOUT data, it only has "restore all apps with data." I've heard that this isn't advised, but I don't want to have to restore all of these apps individually. Seems odd that the top-selling root app doesn't have this option... waste of money if you ask me.
Keep in mind this isn't system data, as I only ever backup user apps.

Restoring apps with data is kind of the point of titanium backup. Feel free to do it across Roms, even phones.
If you don't want to restore data, there's a real button option after you choose 'restore missing apps with data' so you can just do apps.
I would avoid restoring system data. Especially when going from AOSP to TW or vice versa.

I use Go Backup and just restored a bunch of apps from my DINC2 running ParanoidAndroid, I also restored my WiFI passwords and ringtone just fine. I think it might depend on the app.

Many people have said its not safe to restore system apps and data when switching between different ROMs. HOWEVER, what about when switching between versions of Cyanogen?
For instance I have been following the Release Candidate Versions for CyanogenMod 10.1.0. Right now I am on RC5. However, it is quite annoying to reset all of my system settings each time I flash the updated version. I'm wondering if because it is just a different version of the same ROM, if it would be advisable to backup and restore system apps+data when I flash to a new version.

You might have to since there are likely to be changes from the previous version to the next version of the same ROM.

Restoring apps with data is generally fine. There will be some apps that may not work correctly and will require you to uninstall and reinstall from the playstore (ex, words with friends, notifications break on tibu restores), but in general is fine. Tibu will automatically not install apps that the system will reject (system or stock apps).
As far as system data goes, in general never do it. Just tap the batch restore of system data, uncheck all, and select a few basic items to restore. Choose xml format. What generally works across all roms is: call log, messages sms/mms, Wi-Fi access points, and Bluetooth access points. Those are the 4 you really only need, as it takes about 5 min to set up your main system settings. Main system settings vary to much between builds to restore safely, things will break. Full system data restore is only useful if wiping and installing the exact same rom, which almost never happens!

My 2 cents..
It all comes down to whether the android version, system version, stock ota base, touch wiz vs aosp, gapps, launcher grid size etc changed when you switched roms. Also if app permissions change you can get apps that force close, most of the time you can fix this by fixing permissions via recovery or script command. If the app has been zipaligned then you'll have to wipe dalvik cache to get the app to rebuild its cache in some cases. In general, user apps are ok because most problems that may happen can easily be fixed.
Sorry this is a complex question with a lot of variables and I generalized a lot in my post.

It was mentioned earlier in the post but in case you missed it (I did the first few times using TiBU), you can hit the "Restore All Apps + Missing Data" and when you go to run that batch, you will come to a screen with all the apps checked. Just hit "unselect all" and then check the user apps you want to restore. That was you restore all your missing apps and the data for all apps except for the sys apps. Works like a charm!

I always select "restore missing apps with data" and that's all user stuff. I don't back up system either so I don't have to worry about it.

[Q] how to restore with titanium backup

OK here is my problem. Im still a noobie at all this. I backed up all my files with titanium backup, wiped both my caches factory reset and flashed my ROM on my GS3. Downloaded titanium backup again and all the restore options were empty, nothing there. But my internal memory is still full and under titanium backup in my files all my apps and data is still there. Why didn't TB save my backup? Is there anyway to restore using just the files or am I pretty much f ucked? Please help thank you.

Hmm, what rom are you using? Cuz it may have changed your internal storage just a tad bit. If you're using AOSP, you might need to do this first: open Titanium Backup (TB) and go to Settings/Preferences/Backup Folder Location//Detect/Scan Whole Device.
That said:
1) open TB and choose "Backup/Restore" then "Click to edit filters"
2) select "backed up" and "uninstalled"
3) tap the check mark on the top right. You'll see your backed up apps now.
4) Tap the check mark on the top right again, scroll down to the "Restore" tab and choose "restore missing apps with data." Do not restore system data.
5) Done.

Followed instructions above and all of my apps/data were not installed to the ROM. Any idea why this is (not) happening.
Missing so many apps? Any help is appreciated.

Aight, I see you're using a different phone so I do not know the file structure. Did TB restore any of your apps OR was it unable to find your backups at all? Cuz if it did not find any backups then open TB and navigate here: Menu/Preferences/Backup Folder Location/Detect/Whole device. This will force TB to scan your entire device (internal and external storage) for your TB backups. If this does not work then there likely is not a backup on the device.

Thanks! I have done all that u mentioned, and I was able to find backups. BUT, all of my apps have not restored. Am I too recreate every email account and every socia account. That sucks! What the devil is the purpose of TB?
All the forums say TB Pro is the best-does it all, well I found this and it is very upsetting:
1. Titanium Backup will restore all the apps along with their data to your device one by one. On the free version of the app, you will have to restore apps manually one after another. Just make sure that you don’t tap the open app button after restoring any of the app.
If you buy the pro version from the market, all the apps will be silently restored to your phone, and if you have tons of apps on your device, it makes it worth the purchase. THERE WAS NO SILENT INSTALL (and the backup are there and on my PC)
2. For some apps I don’t have the “Restore” button. Why ?
This is probably a system app that you don’t have anymore. System apps are part of your ROM, so Titanium Backup will only backup their data (not the apps themselves).
For this reason, if you backup a system app and then switch to a ROM where that app is missing, Titanium Backup obviously cannot restore the data for it. You have a data-only backup. Before you can restore the data you’ll need to install that system app again, either by reinstalling your ROM or by copying its apk manually into /system/app. I TRIED TO INSTALL JUST APPS/DATA. NO SYSTEM APPS.
If you had disabled the “Normal apps (apk)” and/or “Protected apps (apk)” options in the Backup settings, then all backups of your apps will be data-only, in which case you’ll need to re-install these apps manually before you can restore their data.
So, after deleting Rom from Slot1 (old Cm10 build) and adding the RC5 build, NOTHING was restored. How can this be??? Is there anyway that I can drag and drop files from my PC to the phone? Any and all ideas are appreciated.

unrood and install stock rom >then restore to stock-unrooted rom?
how and what should i do in thisscenario ? does the order matter?

Is there a different method/app?
I have to use an application thats checks if phone is rooted - it won't allow me to connect if its rooted
AND
I have some apps/games that don't sync with the cloud so all data will be lost if just reinstalled without crrent data?
please advice/refer/HELP?SAVE?RESCUE me

first of all backup everything with titanium backup
Then install new rom
After rom install flashable superuser zip
And then restore it

but I must unroot it - and I must restore apps from rooted device - what do you mean "After rom install flashable superuser zip" - how do I do that
could ou add a link to the zip?
