hi henklbr ,
i am glad that you are happy with battery results ! Thanks or info .!
however, i get similar results with my Gear 1 and Note 3
( moderate use, 24 hrs..... 70..80 % , must add , depending what Gear manager version, i use )
I was hoping that when Samsung claims +_ 3 days use on Gear 2( is this correct ,what they stated ?) , we / i could squeeze +- -5/6 days out of it with my similar , moderate use ? )
Still undecided if to get Gear 2 .....
Would like to use it, as ip rating 67, water and dust resistance ,
(to use if i have to run in rain ,bad weather etc )
However, i have read the Samsung user manual ( Gear 2 )
One thing i notice how very, very similar both are ( to each over ) , to a point ,where its disappointing close , overall !
So i am looking for good positives ,but yes still searching ?
Overall ..
To me the Samsung hartrate monitor is a gimmick( i use Runtatsic hartrate app on my Gear 1, excellent app much better than Samsung s gimmick ) music and video , i play on Gear 1, with the Quickpic app so its nearly similar but its more of cool factor !Yes i cannot use bluetooth headphones ,but still use bluetooth headphones , via Note 3 (music app) ,which i still have to carry with me .Battery useage,i am also very happy with .
However i, am sure Gear 2 will be overall a good piece of harware ,
Bottom line,
i am looking opinions of members, that have both Gear 1 and 2 , and can point to /re good positives /diffs !!!! or Tizen apps that availeable or coming ..etc .
and i am looking for a good reason to convince myself, to buy/upgrade ??
Enjoy your Gear 2.
Good luck.

If you can afford it, why not take if for a spin? Return it if you don't think the improvements are WORTH it.

battery life
i've been getting much better battery life with my gear 2 vs. original galaxy gear. On my original galaxy gear I would have to charge every night after draining to around 50% in an 10-12 hour period. My gear 2 I am at 48 hours and at 46% battery. About 20% of that is also from using the excersize mode for an hour each night that does constant heart rate reading (which is about the only feature i've found that really goes through battery fast). It's a great watch and really worth the upgrade.

What settings are you using cause after 8 hours of work I sit at about 75% but my arm is constantly setting the screen on so it would be considered extremely heavy use lol in any given hour the screen is prob set on for at least 10-15 minutes

I was two brightness with sound turned off and vibrate on. I also turn off the motion detection feature for turning the screen on as it turns on just way to easily that way and I don't find it to be a big deal to hit the button with I need to use it.

Only 11 hours and I'm at 69% but that is with motion on, brightness 2, mostly with sound on. Does this sound normal to everyone else? Very moderate use but I drive for a living so face is lit often (very often) about 6-7 hours daily.

Ahh okay I have brightness set at 4 and motion detection set for on and for the length of battery I get out of it, then that's pretty good....I have also used sleep tracker which doesn't use really any of your battery but apparently 91% of my sleep is motionless, so I'm assuming that has something to do with it as well lol.

Been running for 48 hrs now, SMS,IM,Email and WOOT notifications on, Motion on, second brightness. Been using timer all day as well. Sitting at 52% right now. On a good day(returned today) my gear 1 would get 24 hrs, usually more like 12 hrs.

Yeah I was surprised especially because yesterday(day 1) was a wootoff so the notification was going off every 10 minutes for most of the day. That would kill my gear 1 in a couple hours.

What was the screen time on the phone?
Is this with the Gear 2 connected to the Note 3 via bluetooth ALL THE TIME?
If I turn on the bluetooth on my Note 3 all day but not connected to anything, my phone battery will be at 30% in 10 hours and 5 hours screen time.

umm. I'm talking battery on the gear, not the phone. What does screen time on the phone have to do with this? is there a way to see screen time on the gear?
As to the bluetooth question, yes my gear 2 has been connected to my phone for over 60 hrs now and is now sitting at 42%

Oh, never mind then.
Since the Gear 2 will be connected to the phone pretty much all the time, the phone battery will be affected and that's what interest me, given that Android phones doesn't have Good battery life.

It might be too early for me to report battery usage. Both my Note 3 and Gear 2 were at 100% at 7am this morning. I got bunch of text and email notification throughout the day. It is 1pm, Note 3 is currently at 95% and Gear 2 is at 91%. During that time, played around with setting and few other things including answering text and read email on the G2. We'll see at the end of the day. My N3 usually at low 50% at the end of the day before I have G2. This is just my usage.
Update:
It's now 8pm: N3 is now 83% and G2 is at 76%.
Update 2:
37 hrs G2 is at 26%. Good usage last 13 hrs, phone calls, many email and SMS, hour of exercise mode. With my usage, charge is needed at the end of second day.

Yeah My phone's bluetooth is almost always connected to one bluetooth or another, I have not noticed any significant change in battery on my phone, hwoever my phone does get charged regularly and definitely will not go 3+ days without a charge.

My bet is talk time makes a huge difference, I rarely make voice calls.

A lot of reviews of the Gear 2 say the battery life is a vast improvement over the Gear 1, but in fact its not true because the firmware updates for the Gear 1 made VERY significant improvements. A Gear 1 with light to medium usage can easily hit 4-5 days. I think the Gear 2 is actually shorter right now! There may be optimisations for the Gear 2 in the coming months but the fact the Gear 1 was so significantly improved has been missed by many.

I have been using it at night to collect sleep data since I got this. Last night for some reason, I went to bed with 60% bat. By the time I got up, it was completely dead out of battery? ?? Not sure what happened? With 60% it should last all night and all day.

Gear2 (neo?), battery life and my considerations

Hi all!
i am posting here because it seems that the Neo specific forums are not very populated...
anyway i got my new Gear2 Neo preloaded with Tizen last week and i immediately paired to my Note3 (latest X-Note custom rom) and started fiddling with it right away.
First thing i wanted to understand is battery life, so i did some experiments i want to share with you.
First of all, my Gear2 Neo has the latest available firmware upgrades, the Gear Manager is up2date and i have installed only three (free) apps from the store: calculator, calendar and watch styler, which i use normally to show my custom built all black background with bright hands watchface.
I set the screen timeout to the minimum value, i keep notifications ON for everything base plus whatsapp wechat skype and a couple of other apps (like filemanager).
So far my usage has been more or less: receive a few calls a day (5 minutes max of audio trough the watch, the rest trough the phone),
About 20/40 notifications (sms, calendar, sms, whatspp and similars).
Watch off charge at 7:00AM, breakfast, cycle to office, then busy day until evening back at home, some evening activities, then end-of-day around 23:00 / midnight, when i would recheck the watch battery.
At first i got using about 60-70% of the battery, which seemed frankly NOT acceptable, because it means i had to recharge it Every. Single. Night, which rules out carriying around if i stay away for a weekend, since i fear to lose the small charge adapter.... i was quite pissed off, but determined to understand if better can be achieved.
I noticed the screen would turn on very very often, specially while moving my arm from mouse to keyboard (i keep the mouse on my left and use with same watch arm)... so i stopped wearing it when at my work desk... BANG, battery life went up and i got to sleep time with almost 70% CHARGE AVAILABLE?? So, a 30% usage drop, compared to a 60-70% of the previous days???
Well, i disable the turn screen on when lifting arm option, and now i am at 8% usage discharge every day! So after three FULL days of usage i am down at 70% charge available!!! Considering some 1% of drop during nighttime (i don't switch it off), i am positive i can reach well up to 7 or maybe 8 days WITHOUT a charge! Now, this is much better indeed. Yes having to press the button every time i want to see the time is not the best, but afterall i didn't got it for wearing a watch, but to get a much more practical integration with the phone... and i was often turning on the phone to check the time anyway....
What i still clearly note is a battery drain on my Note3... having the watch connected all the time takes a toll on the otherwise great Note3. Maybe not too much, but very noticeable anyway....
YMMV, but i wanted to share this with you...
i agree that disabling the G sensor on the watch will give you better battery life, but is it really that big a deal? dont you have to charge your Note 3 daily anyway? if i dont use my S5 i dont have to daily charge it, otherwise it just gets plugged in when i sleep at night, along with the watch.
also, the gear charges so fast! ive seen it go from 50% to 100% in like an hour, so its not like im really "down" the watch for very long when it starts to crap out.
ive gotten down to 50% battery with very heavy usage in 1 day; so far im impressed and pleased with the watches capability all around
Hi,
I have a Galaxy Note 3 with X-Note Rom Version 18 and Samsung Gear 2,
with factory default options an Watch Styler installed, It lasts only 7 hours...
So I will try Your recommendations and report tomorrow...
I also read in another forum that time improves with a Stock Rom dramatically... I will try that one 2 days later...
Try getting rid of Watch styler, made a night and day difference in battery life with my neo.
I would live to use it, just couldn't live with the battery life.
S5 X-Note Gear2 bat life
I have a Gear2 Neo, first i use it a Month whit my S5 whit Original Strock Rom, the watch life was 3 to 4 days whit disabled G-Sensor. Now i have 2 weeks the X-Note S5 portet Rom on my S5 and now the Watch Battery life is only about 4 to 6 hours.
What is the Problem whit X-Note and Gear2 ? I have try many different options but battery life is very bad whit X-Note Rom

4 days + on ONE charge! Amazing Battery Life

Howdy all,
Just thought I'd relay my battery stats on my Rooted Verizon S5 with Jkruse's Dark_Theme_Rom.
I had my phone on full with NO charge for 4+ days. 1hour 21 minutes for voice calls, 4hours 8 minutes for screen time and 4 days 4 minutes without a charge. My S5 always has: Bluetooth on, Location on, Mobile data on, sync on and I keep my brightness at 60%! So I was not just trying to get to 4 days. However when I was at the 4 days it did finally get down to 1% battery left so I did these screenshots for fun. I guess I'm just excited but also if one has an issue with battery life, then I'm not sure where the problem may be. Great phone this Galaxy S5 is proving to be.
Call me happy and I thought I would share.

I do use Glowing Battery Saver. It gives me a nice battery widget and it does have a power saving modes. I use the normal settings which does help. I should also mention that I have S-health on always for my pedometer as I like to know how much I walk everyday. Today was about 4 miles. Picture below is my home screen with the Glowing Battery Saver widget. I use the Apex Launcher and Wanam for an FYI.

Yes your right Glowing Battery Saver has not been upgraded in a while but it works great for me. There are probably hundreds of apps like this and I encourage folks to take advantage of one of them for their device at least IMHO.
I call BS. I find it impossible to believe that the phone went 4 days without charge , while still being used. If I don't touch my phone, it's dead in under 2! I'm guessing he's the app's developer trying to drum up more sales.

I can't imagine what options were turned off, but check it out -- only about 4 hours of screen-on time. Not sure how much one can use their phone over 4 days when you're only averaging 1 hour of on-screen time a day.

Nope, his phone's like mine. If you turn off everything that doesn't need to be on, minimal apps it can be done. Turn off wifi always scanning, stuff like that. I can get 10%-15% drain per day with little to no use, it can go 5+ days between charges that way, seriously no B.S.. Now it's not much of a phone that way and I freely admit I have no life

Before calling BS perhaps you should try some battery saving options for yourself. If I "don't touch my phone" I can go far past two days. Moderate use (3-4 hours screen on time + exchange + 2 google accounts) I can go about 1 1/2 days. Without exchange, I've gotten a little more than 3 days. So, if I "don't touch my phone" it'd go much past that.
People should stop assuming everyone is always lying.

People should really stop believing what they see on the internet!
I don't KNOW he's lying, the whole thing just doesn't add up, to me and apparently others. I'd love for it to be true, but with BT, WIFI, sync, Exchange, S-health, 1+hr talktime, I doubt it's legit. You believe him, that's your opinion. He also hasn't bothered to follow up on the thread since day 1...

Wow, this really has opened a can of worms. First and foremost I am NOT lying! I never had my phone off and yes I did have everything opened above but Exchange, never said that. And I do have sync always on but un-check everything and sync only on demand for my contacts (over 3000+ as I in sales), gmail, browser and calendar. Yes for 4 days I was light on phone use. Only an hour a day average of screen time, and yes only an hour and 1/2 of phone calls so it was not my usual power use, however this is very legit. I only posted about this just to let everyone know I'm happy with my results with jkruse Rom and the device itself. I could care less about whether one believes me or not, but to say I'm lying is really not cool. Move along doubters, nothing to see here. But again it is what I experienced.
If the Mods want to delete this tread because of hostility then so be it, as I'm amazed at some of these posts. Those who understood I thank you... :good:

Discussion: post your battery life, BT and 4G variant.

Hello all,
I'd like to know your impressions about battery life on our HW2.
my feeling from now: with BT model, 2 days battery life, with 4G variant (with no sim card in), just one day and sometimes even less.......
standard use on both models, quite a lot notifications, some calls, intensive use of watchmaker faces......
what about you?
thanks and regards
I've got the 4G version. Every day I get vastly differing battery results. One day it might be 2% per hour, the next day it might be 15% per hour. I have a SIM card installed but I have it disabled as it kills battery when the watch is disconnected from the phone.
At first I was not happy at all, but as soon as I reached the conclusion that I would have to charge it every day, I stopped caring about battery life.
Not good enough really, but AW 2.0 is what it is.
That's why I opt for BT version. Eventually you cannot use 4G at all. You need to keep your phone connected all day long and that make 4G version non-sense. The only regret is the lacking of Global rom for China BT version.

hello,
I agree with you about every day differences and i have realized that my problem is when i forgot my phone and i move more than what BT can reach. I found better situation now after I got last samsubg s8 update, better bt better battery life for my HW2. ( by the way I wake up every morning a t 5.00am and i go to sleep normally around 23.00..)
As I wrote I dont have sim card, I think for a few money more you can have, eventually, opportunity to put sim card if needed, with bt version, if you need sim you have to buy new watch.
regards
I have the 4g, I get about 16 hrs battery life without sim, and with wifi and location disabled. I have tried everything i can think of because I know there is people getting 2 days battery life. Even wiped and flashed a full rom from this forum. But my watch just drains too fast, about 6% an hour in normal use and 3.5% with airplane and theater mode...

It is probably an app that you have running on the watch. You can check via the 'Watch battery' settings on the phone in the Android Wear App. I found that Huawei Health was using about 6% of my battery. I didn't use it, so I disabled it on the watch. I have disabled all the system I apps I don't use like Runtastic and all of the builtin watch faces (I use a Google Fit watch face). Things got better for me immediately afterwards. I can get two days with everything disabled.

I cannot be 100% sure but I don't think so. I tried resetting the watch and not installing any apps for a few days. I have tried that several times, same result.
I also tried disabling almost all apps in the watch. So much that it was the dumbest smart watch ever. That way I almost got 20 hours, but the watch was useless and still far from the 35 hrs some people is getting with regular use.
I also have updated play services in the phone (Mate 9) and the watch. Same thing.
This is what my stats look like on a regular day:

hello,
first day of test.
fit, runastic and wifi disabled, always on display turned off, wrist gestures turned off but tilt to wake screen on.
woke up at 5.30am, now 15.15pm, battery is 75%, received calls and usual notifications.
not bad compared to past days when at the same time battery was less than 50%.

This was a pretty good Battery day. With 13 hours of use I still have 54% left. With always on display, WiFi on, Pulse on. I have the 4G version but no sim in it. I have a watch face from minimal & elegant. http://cloud.tapatalk.com/s/59359f17dd673/Screenshot_20170605-200409.png?

Yes I use sleep as android. I wish the sleep app were build in by huawei. I also have a Garmin 735XT and it starts the sleep tracking automatically. It would be nice if sleep as android could do that.
Went for a unicycle ride this evening. Put a sim card in the watch so that I could left the watch at home. I used the endomondo app for trackning and the watch was fully charged. The ride took 1 hour and 9 minutes. After that I had 57 % left of the battery. Maybe the huawei sports app drain less battery or is it the sim card that is the problem. I think that I have read tha Huawei says that the battery should last for 10 hours with a tracking with gps and puls on.

From my experience it is the SIM card that drains the battery. I've seen the same 10 hour claim. It isn't true unfortunately.
If I have the SIM enabled in an area with no reception, the battery can drain in less than two hours. It's insane.
I just enable 4G when and if I need it.

Light use endurance

Once in a while, when your significant other yells at you, you might use your phone a bit less. Rate this thread to express how the Google Pixel 2 XL's battery performs under light use. A higher rating indicates that the device goes a long time when you're using the phone sparingly: no gaming or video/audio streaming, light web browsing, some calling and texts, etc.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Out and about (LTE/cell service only) - 13%/hour
At home on Wifi - 6-7%/hour
21h with 4h screen on, 40% left
With what I would consider light usage (email, web browsing, messaging, lots of YouTube) I have really been impressed with the battery life! Over 8hrs screen on time with my first few cycles so far. Based on this, I'm guessing that even with heavier usage (games, etc.) that I would still be pretty happy with the longevity. With very similar usage I was getting around 4-5hrs SOT on my original Pixel XL and was happy with it. Interested to hear how the battery has been for others as well.
I've been very happy. Last night I forgot to charge so I woke up with 48% battery. I plugged in for 25 minutes while getting ready for work. Left the house with 87%. Now, 9 hours later, I have had 2 hours screen on time of mixed wifi/LTE, browsing, email, Facebook, texting, a few pictures and a little YouTube. 20% brightness. Location set to high accuracy, Now Playing turned on, AOD off, Google account sync on. I am at 65%. That's a drain of 22%. Under the same conditions and usage my Nexus 5X would have drained over 40%.
This is the first smartphone I've had (I've had a Nexus One, Galaxy SII, Nexus 5, Nexus 5X and now Pixel 2 XL) that I can say that the battery life is GREAT.

This phone is ridiculous. I haven't charged it since Monday...
I won't pretend I'm a "heavy usage" person with my phone. But I've never been able to get 2 full days of usage from any of my previous phones. Most of them barely lasted 24 hours. This one is going to reach 48+ hours, easy.
I work from home full time so I'm connected to my home wifi almost all the time, which helps. I get out of the house a total of 2-3 hours a day to walk the dog, go to the gym, or meet clients for lunch. So during that time it's on full LTE with no wifi. I tend to use the phone for 2-3 client calls per day (30-60 minutes each while paired with my bluetooth headphones), listening to music at the gym (~60 minutes while paired with my bluetooth headphones), some light usage of social networking apps and Youtube videos throughout the day.
I know battery life consists of a large amount of factors but it's safe to say that with the same usage, this phone outlasts all my previous phones by at least 1.5x. It's fantastic.
Battery life sucks now compared to pre-February security patch.
Light endurance usage: 15% brightness w/auto brightness off just browsing, Facebook and a little texting on wifi. That's no games, Bluetooth off, Location on high accuracy but not doing much (ie no Maps navigation), no video, no music, no camera, no phone calls etc.
Pre February security update:
Screen on: ~10%/hr
Stand by: ~0.3333%/hr
Best battery life: 9 hours SOT over 1 day, 16 hours off the charger
Now (after February and March security updates):
Screen on: ~15%/hr
Stand by: ~0.5%/hr
Best battery life: 6 hours SOT over 1 day off the charger
Stand by battery drain up like 60% and SOT battery drain up like 50%. Very disappointing for a phone that is only 5 months old. If I break it down to a per mAh it's now no better than my Nexus 5X.
After first charge I am getting 2%/h standby drain, hope things will improve
SOT and idle drain still holding strong for my usage patterns. April update + root + Flash kernel. Not a social media user, and don't use many power/ram intensive apps :good:

No one listens to music offline only anymore ?
What is the battery consumption e.g. with PowerAMP (or similar players) and listening to music for several hours like in battery % ?
Thanks
Not me. I stream my music and play over Bluetooth. But for reference, the Nexus 6P was rated at 100 hours. So I doubt the Pixel 2 XL would be any worse.

Mine is just as bad now too. For the first 3 months the same time would leave me with almost 50% left.

I listen to music offline. For the first several months of having the phone I could play over Bluetooth and I'd use about 7% per hour. Playing over a wired connection used 4% per hour. Now it's like 8% per hour over a wired connection and 12% per hour over Bluetooth. Damn monthly updates.

Compared to what it was for the 1st 3 months, yeah, that's bad. Maybe he never experienced how good battery life was before several of the updates so he doesn't really have a basis for comparison. Like I said, with the same time off the charger and screen on time I have about the same 20% battery left as well but for the first few months that same off the charger and screen on time left me with about 50% left. Draining almost 30% battery for the same use just a few months later is a big deal. Oh, and that's after trying a factory reset which at first (about a half a day) seemed like it helped but quickly showed that it didn't help at all.
What you were getting for the first three months was remarkable for sure but wasn't what everyone gets. Like a lot of things battery life has a bell curve and you were just on the extreme right of it. Now you're "only" getting what the majority, middle part of the bell is getting and unhappy with it. Still doesn't mean it's bad. Now it's just average.

Question Huge battery draining

Hi all! Hope I can have son help from anyone... I'm experiencing a huge battery drain on my watch 4 40mm... Usually battery for me lasts around one day and an half, but right now I can't barely complete a day. Here's my screenshot on my galaxy manager app.
I saw the thread about Google Assistant draining battery a lot and I've already disabled it since I'm not using it. But as you can see in a little more than 4 hours by battery has drained a lot...

You will need to supply a lot more info. Like what settings you use, especially AOD, how often you use it and what you use, how old the watch is, how often it is charged, etc.
Sorry you are right.
Aod always disabled.
I have the watch since 7-8 months.
I'm not using the watch really hard, just to see and reply text messages (not so frequently) and track my sleep during the night. Wifi always in automatic mode. Localization disabled.
I was used to charge it once every two days usually, now two times in a day...
I would start by using either command prompt or adb app control to debloat the watch and see if that makes a difference
how many times a week you restart the watch?
i think is full, close every app and restart the watch then try to use risparmio energetico (you are italian vero)
Here is my stats. This is ofc with multiple charges. I have the same 42mm Watch 4 classic with LTE. Normally it does not last even a day.. If I enable battery saver it last 1 and a half day. So you can try that? My watch 3 46mm lasted around 3 days lol..

Hello, I have had the same, suddenly barely getting a day out of the watch with no change of settings or face etc, many on Reddit say the same too.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyWatch/comments/w9f923
Hopefully just a dodgy app update that will be corrected in the next update but very frustrating, ~I have turned off "raise to wake" today and I'm still on 50% which is about what I would have normally had at this time of day before this change.

I'm really hoping the problem is just a crappy update honestly
If you have already performed a factory reset and the problem persists, then I wonder if it could be a bad calibration on the battery, or hardware failure. Chances are that it is something else, like you mentioned -- a bad update -- but it is possible that the device "thinks" the battery is draining faster than it actually is, or "thinks" the battery is fully charged before it really is. Just something to consider.

And if that is so, it is easy to fix. Just charge to 100%, then allow it to run COMPLETELY down to zero charge (just use it normally) and it shuts off. Don't use battery saver. Then charge it up 100% and do it again. I have done this with phones before to fix calibration.
Remember, Lithium Ion devices don't really know the state of the battery completely. There is a lot of guess work going on. But this calibration usually fixes the issue where it thinks there is MORE battery available than actual, not the other way around.

This is not encouraging me..
With my old galaxy watch 1, in the entire night with sleep tracker on, it was losing 2/3%... this watch lose 15/20% in the same hours... maybe depending on OS used, but it's really strange that a 3 years old watch is better than a new one... I was charging the old one every 2/3 days, this new is impossible to achieve 2 days..

Yes, I too had a GW1 but I believe that Tizen was much more optimised by Samsung as it was their own OS, still disappointing with the consistency (or rather inconsistentcy) of Wear OS3.
Hopefully the next version that is currently in Beta will be more optimised and bug free.....
Don't ask how..
But after 1 month and a half, I've reached for first time 2 entire days of battery.. nothing changed in last days, except aod off. But 3 days ago I returned home with 54% of battery after 22 hours from charging and aod on, while yesterday with same hours and aod off I was at 62%, so not a big difference... maybe some minor updates of some apps? Someone other noticed improvements in last days?
I have a somewhat long story but it may help some of you here. I was wanting more complications on my watchface for more info and finally when I was annoyed enough that I couldn't find a watchface with how many I wanted, I went to work with watchface studio only to waste a ton of time making it look just like I wanted only to find out that there is an 8 complication limit on faces. So I started looking for alternatives and found bubble cloud launcher. A replacement launcher and watchface for wear os. After the steep learning curve that came with this AND emailing the dev back fourth a bit with questions. I found that using his watchface and his liveinfo (what he calls them) bubbles instead of using complications I get WAY better battery life WITH more info on my watchface than ever before. According to the dev, his liveinfo bubbles update dynamically from the phone companion app and not just whenever the watch wants to, he said that during his time learning about watchfaces that some complications update every second and others every minute and some are really bad on your watch battery and so when he designed his app he had battery longevity in mind and boy does it help me.
