He said that his girlfriend doesn't like the nexus 5, but some people recomend the phone, maybe its reverse psihology )
The phone is pretty good, most high end games run smooth, i didn't test gta san andreas, but real racing 3, asphalt 8, dead trigger 2 run good, no frame drops. But if she wants a phone for gaming should go for higher priced phones, by the way, san andreas stutter on note 3 and s4, so...
The camera is pretty decent and the auto focus when you are recording is working good. Pictures are sometimes better than s4 mini with 8 mp. The front camera is ok, and the audio is pretty impresive, if you have quality headphones the sound is amazing.
I use the phone with the stock rom, but it is a matter of taste, i feel that the stock rom is better optimized and its more smooth, but that is just my opinion, you have ROMs and kernels to chose.

If I could go for something more expansive,I would go for Sony Z1 Compact.
But right now, that's all I can get.
I saw this phone lags on Gta . well,it's just a game,it is ok
The problem is,I can't understand something: This huawei have the same gpu as Moto G but a dual-core krait 200. Why the Huawei can play at almost max with like 20-25fps and Moto G lags on low?
I can't decide what to do..I really want to buy something..another opinions?
I'm in London right now and I have something like 180-200 £ ,I think this is the best option..

The only game i didn't test was gta san andreas, i have a friend with a stock s4 (adreno 320) and gta is lagging on med settings, if you search san andreas on note 3 you will see it lags even on adreno 330. My old samsung galaxy express with adreno 305 and 1.2 dual core was runing gta on max settings pretty decent, but touchwizz was horibble on day to day usage. I am a casual gamer, the most apps i use are mail, chrome, quick office, camera, ssh, autocad 360 etc. but this apps are working with no lag, the experience on this phone in general is buttery smooth so maybe some apps are not optimized properly
You can't beat this phone for the price.
Just don't set your expectations to that of the Nexus 5.
It's not really fair to compare the 2, since they are in COMPLETELY different price brackets.
This Moto G does everything well, except EXTREME multi-tasking, and picture taking.
The camera is decent, dont get me wrong, but if photos are important to you, I would look elsewhere.
What do you want?
- A clean fast near stock Android experience, but with a mediocre camera? - Get the Moto G
- Or a decent mid-ranger with good picture quality? Look at a mid-range Nokia

Yap,
front is 720p.
The quality is decent as long as your in good lighting.

Hi, I'm considering buying the HTC One Mini. The main thing keeping me from jumping on it that it only has 1GB of memory and the lack of optical image stabilization (my phone is my only camera). The regular HTC One would be perfect if it wasn't so big. I've been using an iPhone 3GS for the past year and a half after my Motorola Atrix 4G broke so I can't wait to upgrade. I've had nothing but problems with my iPhone. Anywho:
1) How does the One Mini's camera compare to the One's? Does the lack of optical image stabilization noticeably impact picture quality?
2) Do you find loading and switching between apps slower on the One Mini compared to flagship devices with 2GB of memory like the One and the S4? How would you compare their real world performance?
3) How is the audio compared to the One? I've heard it's still good, just less loud and a little less clear, but I want to know what you guys think.
4) Does your One Mini get hot? If so, under what conditions?
5) How is the battery life?
6) Do you know of any other smaller mid to high range phones for AT&T? I'd be okay with waiting a month or two if there's a good upcoming phone.
Thanks!
1) How does the One Mini's camera compare to the One's? Does the lack of optical image stabilization noticeably impact picture quality?
to be truthfull im sastified with the picture qaulity on my HTC ONE mini check out the included fotos as for the OIS not really sure but havent had any problems with blurred fotos or night shots.
2) Do you find loading and switching between apps slower on the One Mini compared to flagship devices with 2GB of memory like the One and the S4? How would you compare their real world performance?
im sastified with the performance of The HTC one mini of course there is a slight lag ouput when opening apps but its not really noticeable 1sec tops and if rooted the performance is dmn good for a Dual core Smartphone.
3) How is the audio compared to the One? I've heard it's still good, just less loud and a little less clear, but I want to know what you guys think.
Audio is good dont have any comparisons to the Htc one but Ditched my Xperia z for this phone and the overall qaulity is ten times better havent looked back ever since.
4) Does your One Mini get hot? If so, under what conditions?
when using daily it hardly gets warm when using under normal conditions surfing, email etc only when playing graphic intense games does it get allittle warm but with a case not noticable at all.

1. The camera quality is still ok in my opinion but im not somebody that uses the camera very often.
2. Its fast and very smooth no complains here and you only need the more memory and better cpu if you play games otherwise i dont think you will see a big difference.
3. Have to be honest here the speaker are very quiet but got a good quality, its better with headphones and not to quiet.
4. For example if you play gta 3 or vice city or any other game that needs performance it will get hot but from my experience its not too bad especially if you hold it horizontal while playing.
Another fact that i should tell you is that the phone does not get hot or warm if you load it, it seems like the case does a good job with cooling it down.
anyway if you have any further questions about the phone just let me know.
Thanks for the responses.

battery life suxx on every single smartphone thats my opinion.... if you play games or watch videos your power will melt away pretty fast...
after one day it had 50% with mobil data on and normal use, if you use it a lot you have to charge every day.
Anyone notice that some graphic intensive games stutter? I'm not talking about framerate. This also happens on my Z2 tablet.
Running the games side by side my LG G2, The G2 is noticeably smoother. Running benchmarks side by side, The G2 is smoother again, but The Z3 scores higher.
Current games I'm playing are:
Riptide GP 2
Dead trigger 2
Slingshot Braves
Update 07/09/2016: I'm now using a Z5 and experiencing the same. My old LG G2 is smoother.

I havnt had any prolems so far. Ive play asphault 8, modern combat and GTA pretty flawlessly. Are you using heavy launchers? I also use a taskmanager to close everything prior to gaming. (ive done this with all my devices not just my z3)
I'm using the default launcher.
I'll Try Asphalt 8 later today.
Thanks.

Must say I have not noticed stuttering like you mention, I will also try Asphalt 8 and see how it fairs.
My bench marks 3d is smooth, and my device on Antutu tops the 3d default scores.
I have though made a couple of tweaks.
Here they are and see if it helps;
Go to settings, click about phone 10 times (or until you become a developer)
Go into developer options
Go down to Hardware-Accelerated rendering
Tick force GPU rendering
And Disable HW overlays.
See how you go after that.

I just tried Asphalt 8 on my Z3, Z2 tablet, and my fiance's Z3 compact, and it stutters like crazy. Much more than Riptide GP 2. Don't get me wrong, the games are playable, but much more enjoyable on my older LG G2.

It could be heat or game related, My LG G2 never stuttered either and the Z3 for me has stuttered only in PlayStore of all places but a restart fixed that.
Hey mate i have been scouring the net for an answer to exactly the same problem you are having. Virtually every game has some intermittent stuttering which is pretty consistently occuring every few seconds so as you say games are very playable but dont feel smooth.
I have tried asphalt 8, zen pinball, Pinball Arcade , real racing 3 and none feel completely smooth. I thought maybe that real racing 3 may have been too graphically intense for the z3 but after reading so many reports from other z3 users on how good the game played on their phones it made me start looking for a solution. Pinball arcade and zen really sealed the deal for me about maybe something wasnt quite right though as these 2 games should pose absolutely no problem for any modern device (my vita vetsion side by side looks much smoother) but the ball will stutter every so often too.
If you find a solution i would really like to know what you did as i am new to android and everything ive read to try hasnt helped.

Possibly it's related to the resolution. The Z3 has 1080 x 1920, whereas the ps vita is only 960 × 544; around a quarter of the size. I do think it's a weakness of modern phones; I'd be a lot happier with a lower resolution. It's not as if the S3 had any problems with its 720 x 1280. I think it's a bit like the megapixel race on DSLRs; bigger is better, and damn the other problems (noise, image size on cameras; speed, battery, asset storage space on phones).
Doesn't seem to be related to resolution, as the same happens on my fiancé's Z3 compact. Also, the same games runs smooth on my LG G2.
I'm pretty sure it has to do With Sony's ROM since it's happening on my Z3, Z2 tablet, and Z3 compact. The people that report no stuttering is probably not as sensitive to it as some of us are.

I think the Sony ROM is running a more conservative setting or something because everything seems to be a little slow on the Z3. Battery saving method on Sony's part I assume.
Probably the kernel tuning. I've noticed it too.
Maybe Sony is more aggressive than LG with the thermal protection in the kernel. Even on the LG G2 if you disabled thermal protection it got rid of any stutters that were there, though not safe in the long run.
Guys do you think they will solve it by android L relase?
It will probably improve a bit because the new OS will be more efficient, and also better battery life.

Feel free to chuck up a video of the problem; I'm writing a game, so perhaps I could reproduce it if I had some idea what's causing it.
I remember having this problem with my Droid DNA when the Moto X rocking the same processor was smooth, regardless of framerate. Definitely firmware/video driver/kernel related. It can be most easily witnessed in games with a lot of scrolling or fluid motion, looking like a hitch or frame drop.

Ahh yes, i play asphalt 8 quite a bit, and while it doesn't lag, it definitely stutters a ton. I'm coming from an ascend mate 2 and even that runs it a bit better! i'm sure it all comes down to the heat/kernel settings. what's odd is when im playing need for speed, it's extremely smooth, but the phone definitely gets way hotter than it does when i play asphalt 8.
Sorry for the delay. My Canon camera crapped out on me. I ended up having to use my GoPro Hero3. Sorry for the image quality, GoPro sucks bad on everything except outdoor activities.

In the LG G2 you could disable the Thermal throttling and manually set clock speed for thermal states in Trickster Kernel settings app. I suppose you could do the same here.
So we've seen the hands-on videos, we've seen the specs and we've seen the release dates. We're psyched. We don't know yet if we need to choose one from the 2015 line-up or stick to what we have already/upgrade to a Moto X (2014).
It's time to discuss with fellow possessors of the Moto X line what Motorola did good in your opinion and what it did bad this year around with the Play and Style.
Personally I'm much more attracted to the Play rather than the Style but is the 615 processor much of a downgrade? It's tagged as a mid-spec phone but it's not in my eyes, and most of you can surely agree.
Camera quality has been addressed (hopefully).
Play has a whooping 3630 mah battery, so it feels like a midder-speced Droid Turbo. It even has the same weight (169 grams).
Higher screen size, higher screen to body ratio. Hopefully this won't me such a big issue as I believe Motorola made them STILL with the ergonomics in mind.
How will the build quality be? The Play version doesn't seem to resemble the X (2014) as much as the Style does in terms of aesthetics and build quality.
So...fellow citizens: Upsides, Downsides? Discuss.
I too am most interested in the Play but can't really put my finger on where the 615 stands.
I play a few, graphically not to high end games (Blek, Candy Crush,...) and have currently a Huawei P8.
If I knew the 615 performs good enough for daily stuff (maybe on par with the Nexus 5?) I'd definitely try it out...

I'm in the same boat as you. I feel the 615 should be more than enough as far as performance goes for running the browser, Google Inbox, etc. I'm not much of a mobile gamer, only really play some of the lighter games included in the last few humble bundles such as Ridiculous Fishing and Threes!.
I'm waiting on some early reviews to come in, but I really do hope that this will be the perfect phone for our use cases.
same here ... not worried about the SD 615 tho but more about build quality since i love my moto X and it's amoled display, i can live without amoled but not without a decent build quality..
the battery and the camera are huge improvents for sure that's why i'm thinking of buying one X Play ^^
I'm fairly sure the Verizon version (Turbo 2 name has already been registered) will be the one to get. It will likely be like the Play, but better cpu, wireless charging, likely qhd screen.
Only downsides are it will be a Verizon exclusive, and no unlocked bootloader.
I was reading somewhere that Motorola might want to make the X Play as the EU "version" of Droid Turbo.
lol
I will get the Moto X Play when released looks very decent! Would have been better if it had Wifi AC (Just installed a Netgear R7000 at home) but it will suffice for my needs. Will sell my Galaxy S6 before purchase. Have been looking towards chinaphones as well LEtv Le 1, Meizu Mx5 and the newly announced Sony M5 also still can't make a definitive decision can anyone help/point me in a good direction.
I mainly use the rear cam would love decent low light pics, browsing, feedly, youtube and some gaming, with minimal call and whatsapp.

And best of all no shizwiz, jokes apart i had a Moto G gen 1 (2y ago) and really liked it, with a stock mid range system the experience is smoother, unlike the top end hardware of the S6 that works so hard and feels sluggish
That's what 99% of the manufactorers don't get and stick to there UIs, which are all much to heavy on the hardware...
I need a new phone for my girlfriend. She had a moto g 2013, and I want to buy the moto x play..but..in Spain it costs 395 euros. I think it´s a little expensive for a midrange. So i´m considering the new xiaomi redmi note 2 with the mediatek helio x10 and only 140 euros, what do you think guys? I don´t know what to do.
What about the new moto g?

thanx:good:
The two things the play has that i like over the style are the 1080p screen and much larger battery . Those 2 combined will probably kill the style on battery life.
Dont like:
Smaller screen
No dual speakers mono only
Its not as visually appealing
Mid range processor
2gb only of ram
The small screen and lack of stereo speakers are deal breakers for me. The other stuff i could probably live with.

thanks for that! for my scenarios, the SD615 will do just fine (web browsing, social media, taking photos/editing, call/sms). can't wait for it to arrive, just (pre)ordered it yesterday on a german site
What I really find puzzling is the LCD screen. Why throw away the advantage of amoled in handling the active display? If it turns out to be well thought about (e.g. a mode in which the screen only turns on upon sensor activity instead of being continuously lit to display notifications) I'll be buying the play.
Hi everyone!
There are debates about Qualcom 615 (adreno 405) performance. Could share your empressions about speed, lugs and else.
How smooth it works with browsers, heavy apps and games.
Thanks)
Tbh, I don't see much difference with a Moto X 2013 updated to 5.1. Snappy, browsing is cool as usual, you can switch from one app to another quite fast and well, everyday tasks are "Motorola as usual", y'know?
I feel like the keyboard swipping tray is at a low fps though. and it's quite annoying, anyone else have that problem?
Specs wise... Well, the clockspeed is the same as the 2013, but it has double the cores. My Antutu score with the X Play is 33k and 28k with the 5.1 2013.
I'm not really demanding performance-wise (no 3D games, etc.) but I definitely notice it when my music lags when I open another app (started doing that on my 2013 with the 5.1 update :/), and the X Play doesn't do that, yay!

I'm coming from a few devices. I mostly used the Nexus 6 and I can tell this phone isn't as fast as the N6. There are way more micro lags on the X Play. But, the flip side is the camera is much better and the battery actually lasts all day, so I can deal with some lag here and there.
^Pretty much echoes my opinions compared to my Zenfone 2
I do feel those micro lags, and sometimes it pisses me off , i'm looking forward to get Moto X style , it's not that X play is bad, still kept my LG g4 and Galaxy S6 in the drawer so you get the point . When i get the X Style i might switch back to X play because of the battery is very good.
I'm curios why they didn't just put in a last gen 800 series cpu-gpu. I get they are trying to save money but I really don't think this is the solution. Due to initial benchmarks, the 615 is slower than a SD 800 in almost every category and even the multi-core is slower. I'm much rather have a faster quad-core than a slower octa-core. Does anyone else agree or am I missing something in the octa-core debate?
Battery life and cost are my guesses.
Yeah I think it's exactly what Devhux said. Well battery life could be less of a concern on a big.LITTLE architecture, but Motorola isn't exactly known for putting cutting edge technology in its phone!
I really think it's the cost, to keep it under the 400$ (cad) mark.
I've turned my animation scales down to .5x in the developer settings. It's definitely making a difference. I don't mind the 615. I really want to get the Style but I can't imagine battery life will be very good. Too much screen.

Of course, it's also entirely possible that Motorola is being very conservative with the CPU Governor as well. Given that the phone barely even gets warm to the touch (unless maybe playing games), there's a good chance custom kernels could unlock a bit more performance for us. We've got the battery capacity to allow for some tweaking, and I can't wait to see what happens.
My main point of comparison is the Asus Zenfone 2, which I've always enjoyed considered "smooth." Of course, battery life and the camera are absolutely destroyed by the Moto X Play. Display is also better (and brighter) on the Moto.
Coming from the S6 Edge this phone feels auch faster. I'm very happy...also the battery lasts like twice as long

Did you turn down all three animation scales options to 0.5x?

Yes I did. There's still a decent amount of lag but it's definitely better.

Guys, I did the same and my Xplay is a little beter now. But, sometimes I feel that the touch screen is not sensitive. I have a z3 too, and the touch is very sensitive, every little touch in screen, z3 reconize it, but the Xplay, I have to touch with more "force".
Do you also feel that ?!

I haven't had an issue with touchscreen sensitivity on my Moto X Play. I'm coming from a Nexus 6 and Galaxy S6.

Very strange.
The touch is exactly the same, no differences ?

I find the touch sensitivity on the Moto X Play is lower than the Galaxy S6, but not by a huge amount. It's not that the S6 felt more sensitive per se, it's that it felt more...consistent.

Coming from a g3, but this.
Been using the moto x 2013 for some time now and its just about perfect. I dont game, my use is heavy on web, text. The problem with my X is that the microphone doesnt seem to work anymore, I have to carry a wired or bluetooth to talk on the phone...which is a pain.
I want something small, similar in size, to replace it. Ive narrowed it down to a S4 or LG G2. Which would you guys recommend? Anyone else make a move from the X 2013 to one of these models?
Thanks,
Mario
If it is bought new, sure. But second hand you can get more recent models at the same prices.
Based solely on the specs, I would go for the G2. When I'm looking for a phone the first thing I look at is the performance, and, looking at the hardware, the G2 is better equipped than the S4. But this is just on paper.
For all I know, the real world performance may be the same.
I am satisfied with the S4
Thanks. Yeah either the G2 or S4 new is what I want, just curious to hear what folks think getting a 2.5 year old device. Id get a new flagship but all of them are just too big.
Get the snapdragon variant. The exynos overheats
S4 is still a very good phone: it can run without problems marshmallow custom roms and you can play on it big games like fifa 16 or asphalt. But if you want a good new phone and almost same dimensions like s4, I recommand OnePlus X.
I don't think S4 will be a good idea now. I had both versions (GT-I9500 and GT-I9505) before I moved for Xperia Z3 D6643. Unfortunately, I have damaged my Z3 and until it got fixed, I will be using the GT-i9505 again.
This phone is driving me crazy, even with max brightness, it's impossible (looks like a black screen) to use it under sunligh. 3G, and 4G (not to talk about GPS) data drains a huge % of battery, average screen on time is about 3-3,5h, no battery optmizations.
The Z3 (5.2") and Z3 compact (4.6") are the best options when talking about cost x benefit. Almost 10h screen on time and +800h standby time.
Thanks all. I kept looking and looking for new S4 or g2 but everything out on the Bay was new "other" or sellers with tons of negative feedback. Lots of positive but also much negative. I just saw no trusty sellers. Ended up pulling trigger on oneplus x. Now the wait for it begins. Hope oxygen is decent.

i have S4 now frome aboute 1 year and realy i am happy with

@spawk
Samsung has it's own update cycle. Most flagships get support from Samsung up to 2 years after released.
And, in 2016, Galaxy S4 won't be supported anymore.

The Only thing that is extremely bad about i9505 is its sound quality in earphones. On gsmarena u will see they will say it has best audio quality but in reality its far far away from the best its so flat and dumb.Even all the chinese phones sound better than it there is literally no bass at all in the sound and if u increase it by an equalizer the volume decreases alot.
You could also try i9506 S4 LTE+/LTE A
Ive been using this device for a long time now. Recently broke my galaxy note 3's lcd and sold my lg g2. Back on my i9506 and still good. Its not far with g2 in terms performance. Although I use 2 batteries on my i9506 but hey, great device

Sound quality depends a lot on the headphones. I hardly think that in-ear ear buds are great at producing bass.
Let's not forget about the song quality too. Anything with a bitrate lower than 320KBPS will have its quality reduced. So always go for 320 or FLAC.
It can have the best sound chip in the world if the headphones are garbage and the music file has static noise.

There are always better devices. My 2 other devices (An ZTE Blade and LG P350) sound crappy compared to my S4.
That's why there are mods like viper4android. With the right setup you can get nice bass.
Besides, stuff like this is just a preference. I, for instance, don't like heavy basses. I like to listen to the music, not the "boom boom" sound of the bass.

I Dont like much bass either but the sound of i9505 compared to Sony Xperia Z2,Galaxy Grand Prime,Galaxy J5,Galaxy Ace 3 and the desktop computer is really flat and lacking.I can hear more elements in even samsungs lowest end phones than i9505 using the same earphones
Stay away from S4.
- Lollipop roms are okay but not very fast.
- Exynos AND snapdragon can overheat actually depends on the kernel.
- microphone distortion (personally) which I can hear as I play back the call recording
- not as fast or smooth as I expected for quad core when I previously had S5 mini
- Sometimes run out of ram but not too often
Generally just don't expect much. The specs look really good on paper but it's actually not that good a phone.
The screen resolution is very high which is nice.
Camera quality / focus is average as well. Slow to focus. Quality average.
I suggest buy 2nd hand used S5 or S6.
Unfortunately no S6 mini.
@fatjoez
1. Really? 5.1.1 is okay for me.
2. I've a device with Intel processor and it does the same thing. In short: All CPUs could overheat.
3. -skipped-
4. Blame Samsung's policies.
5. I'm only felt it on TW ROMs.
And no, I won't buy Exynos devices. Devices with Snapdragon SOCs are the best choice.
But, it's up to you. I couldn't interfere your mind.

Well I bought a oneplus x. Been using it for one day and I'm not sure about it. Works OK. Speed us good but it's just too big. I just wish I could find a phone the same size as the 2013 moto x. Now I'm thinking either a S4 or Z5 compact. :/
