Hi. Bit of a noob so bare with me.
Got the phone and it got the kitkat upgrade straight away. Then I unlocked the bootloader through the Moto site. All fine and well.
But for the past month there has been a new update which refuses to install. Did a recovery. Did a factory reset. Did a cache clean thing. In fact, did all possibilities. It will still not update. It did get the new Moto startup screen no bother, which was odd.
Should I flash new firmware onto the phone and would this take care of this update problem?
Thanks

Let me start by saying that I am new here, and I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask for help, but here I go anyway...
I am in desperate need of assistance. Against all better judgment, I rooted my phone a few months ago and now I am in a "pickle" so to speak. I recently recieved the Android 5.0.2 OTA Update notification. I have attempted multiple times to install this update but each and every time I do so, it returns me (after rebooting) a message along the lines of "software update was unsuccessful". I have sifted through some posts online with no avail. I am not the best person when it comes to my phone, however I do know how to get around on a computer.
I guess I should also add that I read somewhere that the phone must be un-rooted before attempting to upgrade, however, I have alrady attempted to do so with the "Full Unroot" option in SuperSu, but the only thing that seemed to have happened is the app is now deleted.
Another thing, I only rooted my phone and did not install any of the recovery programs like CWM or TWRP. This is stock android and no Custom ROM.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I have been waiting for Andoid L for a very long time and am very upset that I am having all these issues trying to use it.
Thank you for listening and look forward to seeing if anyone can help me.

What you may try to want to do is to find the factory stock image online for which ever version you have and run it then upgrade to each new version till you get to lollipop update. Yes you will lose all of your data but if lollipop is what you want that is probably what your gonna have to do. Every time a factory update is available on Motorola before it does the update it will check for every app and checks file system and recovery. Anything out of the ordinary and it will usually not upgrade it. So if I was you look for the stock factory image of 4.4.4 and update to lollipop 5.0.2.
Alternatively flash a custom recovery, TWRP or Philz Touch, and then do a factory reset and flash one of the zips in this collection:

Less risk and you keep your photos etc.
All I am sorry if this has been asked as I cannot find the same issue when I search
I was offered the lollipop upgrade via OTA today. I downloaded and rebooted as it asked. Then since I have my phone rooted with TWRP the TWRP screen came up and I tried and install.. that failed obviously, again rebooted into TWRP and then chose to boot to system, it looked like it was upgrading packages and then i looked a few minutes later and it showed my phone was not updated.
Now when I go to the options/about phone/software upatdate it says that I am up to date and I am at 4.4.4..
Can anyone help? I would really like to get lollipop on there without losing all my data.
TIA
Hi, have a look here, it worked perfectly for me and i didn't lose any data.

Ok guys,
I'm gonna post this knowing that there is probably NO SOLUTION to my issue. Let me attempt to explain EXACTLY my issue and what I did. I found a potential solution here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142 however my issues don't exactly match the description in that thread.
So, long story short - I've ended up back on the G2 for now (until I upgrade) - I got the G2 on Amazon brand new. When I got it the other day - I discovered when I attempted to boot into download/fastboot or recovery using ADB - the phone would just reboot. The G2 came with KK 4.4.2. I had it rooted but still couldn't get into recovery or download modes. So, for the hell of it - I decided to take the OTA (after reading the G2 can still be rooted on LP). Halfway thru the OTA update (after it reboots into stock recovery) the device reboots. Did it multiple times. So, I went to LG's website and downloaded the LG Mobile Support tool. Plugged the G2 in - it said there was no update available. So, I tried one of the options I found to update the recovery. So, it starts updating.... and then I realized it flashed Lollipop instead of updating the recovery. So, no I'm on stock Lollipop 5.0.2 and I still can't boot into recovery/download/fastboot to flash a stock KitKat image so I can root, ROM, etc.
Anyone heard of this issue or even possibly know how to fix it WITHOUT using a bootable Linux drive or a virtual machine (I have a Windows 8,1 laptop - 8.1 doesn't support Hyper-V out of the box)? If you know anything related to this - please post. I have no clue what else to do except accept the fact that I have a stock G2 that I will NEVER be able to root. I was going to send it back to Amazon and get another one but I don't feel like going thru all that for a phone I'm probably not gonna end up using too much longer.
Please could someone help ! I'm trying to unlock my XT1032. I have the correct Sim-Unlock (network unlock) code from my old telco, but... it won't work because the phone is rooted, bootloader unlocked (S-ON) running CM13.
I figured that returning it to a stock build would allow me to unlock the phone, then I could re-root and return to CM13 on my new network.
However..... there are about a dozen guides on returning a Moto G to stock and the first one I tried left the phone stuck on the 'Warning: Bootloader is unlocked' message. Since then, I've tried several other guides and have got nowhere fast. I've been on this for four hours now and the only thing I seem to be able achieve is to get TWRP or CWM recovery on there by flashing from fastboot. Every other image I try either gives 'preflash validation failed' messages, sticks on the Bootloader Unlocked screen or gets it stuck in a bootloop!
I just want to switch networks... Why is this so bloody difficult ?
What Firmware did your XT1032 originally come with? or which Carrier?
Kitkat I think, and it's Tesco (UK).
I subsequently did the OTA update to Lollipop and then.... WHOAAAAA.... hold on... it's booting !!!
I don't know how, or what I've done to get this far, but the only thing I can think of that's changed is that the battery is now at 100% charge. It appears as though it's successfully flashed the 5.1 untouched ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/?id=7981#downloads
But, I've tried flashing that loads of times this evening and it's failed everytime.
Having said that it's booting, it's sitting here on the Motorola logo - and it hasn't got that far in the last five hours.... I'll be back shortly !
Update: It worked ! It completed the boot, I put the new SIM in, it asked for the unlock code and this time it worked OK. Now I'm tackling putting CM13 back on it. I think I'll stick with TWRP rather than CWM recovery, as long as TWRP can handle the automatic updating for the CM nightlies.
I have no idea what went wrong there - maybe it was just that the battery had to be at 100% ?? Who knows... Thankfully I doubt I'll be tackling that again !
I don't know if things have changed, but I would be careful with OTA Updates in CM. People have hard-bricked (phone is effectively destroyed) applying updates in this way. I also suggest you avoid official Motorola updates, rather use the factory firmware images available here: (which already include the content of OTA Updates)

Thanks for replying anyway mate. In the end, it's all good now. Unlocked and back on CM13 and on my new network !
Ahhh... not so good after all. The phone reboots every time you try to uninstall an app. I've tried flashing back to CM12.1, the latest stable release, and it does the same, so I've obviously screwed something up along the way.
Could someone help me flatten this thing completely and get it working normally please?
I've tried reflashing loads of times, even tried Cyanogen Recovery instead of TWRP but nothing I do gets rid of this reboot problem.
Can anyone assist please?
OK, so I've followed the procedure detailed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/development/rom-stock-motorola-lollipop-rom-t3017510 and flashed the Untouched 5.0.2. EU Stock ROM successfully, but it still reboots when you try to uninstall any app.
Whatever it is that's causing this is not getting overwritten by the flashing procedures I'm using is it ?
HELP !!!!!
@aneng64 - You have not done what I told you to do. Read my post again.
Yes I did... and I still had the same problem. It was only once I stopped trying to flash zips from TWRP and used mfastboot to flash the whole set individually (non-hlos, motoboot etc) that I got it to behave. The issue, incidentally, seemed to be the same one mentioned elsewhere here that also causes settings to crash when you try to go into settings, security.
Once it was stable with a stock ROM, I was able to flash CM13 again and it's now sorted. Thanks for your help anyway.
Hey all, need some advice... I recently rooted my phone and found it wasn't for me (way too many apps stopped working). Because of this I tried to unroot the phone, but got stuck in a boot loop and had to recover from scratch.
Anyways, I'm running stock now and the system is back to being rooted. Problem is, I can't seem to update the phone. I'm not getting an error message either. Both Smart Switch and the phone simply say I'm up to date, but I'm on APB7 when I should be able to get APD3.
Is there anyway to fix this? Will I need to factory reset the phone? I'm not sure how to get the phone to recognize an update now.
Same here. I rooted my phone, installed TWRP but battery drain and apps not working properly made me go back to stock. Now I cant get any updates. I flashed APEQ fw yesterday dated June 8 but still dont get the June 17 updates.
I used Smart Switch to do an Emergency Reinstall of the firmware. Had to start over from scratch with my phone... It installed the lastest firmware though.
Been researching as much as I can online and it seems the consensus is simply unrooting the phone does nothing. You have to factory reboot. Tripping Knox won't stop you from getting updates but an unrooted phone that wasn't factory reset still won't get updates. Fun times. Last time I root my phone... Things aren't the same since I last rooted in Android 4.0. Now too many apps and updates etc. check for root and stop working if they detect it.

Did you use Odin to flash back to stock?

I used the Emergency Recovery function of Smart Switch which, from my understanding, is basically the same thing. I know how to use ODIN but it seemed a better idea to go with the official solution. Guess I'll find out if it worked once the June update is available in Canada.
