Battery is dying at 15% - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

For some reason my battery is consistently dying when the OS still notifies 15% remaining. I'm running the official CM11 nightlies 4/8, dalvik runtime, KT747 kernel. When it dies I plug in and it will say 0% again when I turn it back on.
Is there any standard procedure for this? Any tips on what I can do?

How old is your battery?
You probably need a new one.

Actually its rather new. I just got one of those Anker 2200 batteries about 3 months ago.

I have the same issue on my Nook Tablet. Running CM11 too. If it get's close to 15% it just dies sometimes. I think it's an android thing not hardware related. At least the CPU-z app shows my battery as healthy.

This happens with my S3 as well, and I resolved it by getting a different battery. I bought a couple different batteries to make sure it wasn't hardware/software related, and could only replicate said issue with my original “old" battery.

CM 9 Alpha 3 & 4 Battery Issues

I'm having a weird issue with the battery gauge on the CM 9 Alpha 3 and 4 ROM's. If the phone is rebooted when the battery is between ~40% to 70% it shows that the battery will drop to ~15% immediately after rebooting. I've been through calibrating and wiping the battery stats both with the calibration program and through CWM recovery. The battery is showing 3759mV at the time it's reporting 15% after the reboot. I've tried 2 batteries which are both stock batteries, one is about 6 months old and the other is 2 months old. I never noticed this as a problem before, I was running pure stock up until 2 weeks ago. I had the MIK Rom on it for a week, then put CM9 Alpha 3 last week, and Alpha 4 this morning. You can see the "display on" time and massive drop at reboot on the attachments. It also reflects the drains while I was making calls and playing throughout the day. Am I missing something or is there something else to check?
Thanks, I really like this ROM and hope this is just a glitch or me missing something.
The stock batteries are infamous for their very low charges. Get an aftermarket battery.

I've been reading through the battery posts on here and am leaning that way. But even with that in consideration, I wouldn't think there would be such a dastric drop like that, and I didn't notice this before until I put the new ROM's on. I'm thinking about going back to another ROM and see if the problem still exists there.

Nope, just the touch screen.
I know that Lion batteries do not have a linear discharge slope, but with the mV @ 3759 that should reflect ~50% I believe, which is where the % showed before the reboot. But, I didn't check the mV before the reboot. That'll probably be the next thing.
I pulled the lines from battery history.txt file on the sdcard. It looks like the mV dropped around 20mV but the % dropped 40 from the reboot. I streamed videos on YouTube for about an hour and it dropped to 9. Finished it off after that and the phone shut off around 3293mV. The first lines are the reboot.

My stock battery does better than that, and never jumped between values (except with the CM 7 kang). With stock Android and now CM 9, I never have that issue :\
I saw a post in the ROM thread that user jarnom had the same thing happen with the battery gauge. I had it happen again when I was at 50% and after the reboot it was @ 6%. I tried what they did, pulled the battery and waited a minute. Powered back on, and the gauge went back to 48%. I never though about pulling the battery, but it worked to get the gauge back to where it should have been.
try Calibrating your battery?
have you tried calibrating your battery? it is recomended to calibrate after your flash a new rom. first time i calibrated my bat life went up at least x2!
not here to advetise any specific app so search "battery calibration" in the market.
hope this helps?

Yes, and no, at the same time. The actual apps that wipe the batterystats.bin file doesn't do anything but remove the file that stores the usage history of the apps. Seidler2457 pointed that out here on the site.
I did start using battery widget pro to see what it showed compared to the phone as it learns the minimum and maximum values for the battery after multiple complete discharge cycles. It estimates time left on the current charge pretty accurately using the current mA draw on the battery. I use my phone until it is dead at night, and then recharge overnight, so it has a few good complete %1 to %100 cycles on it. It's not affecting the battery life that I can tell, I'm getting the same average times out of the battery every day. Actual battery life has been really excellent on this ROM, it's just a weird issue I noticed.
hey, having a sortve similar issue except now the phones battery isnt even taking a charge ._.

That's the mA field, (current going to/from the battery. Next to it is the % field, then mV, and finally temp. It was showing a - value when the phone was using battery. It does that periodically when the battery is fully charged and still on the charger.

I've noticed the past few days, after flashing ICS, that my battery hangs at 77% while charging. I completely discharging it right now and deleted battery stats in recovery. My phone is only two weeks old =/
I flashed Alpha 5 earlier tonight and have rebooted 8 times now to check for this issue. Every time the battery stat has come back at the same level as before the reboot, which is awesome. I'm not sure if anything was changed specifically, but the nuisance I had isn't there now. I flashed over Alpha 4 with just a cache and Dalvik wipe.

Battery Dies Quick, WHY??

my NS4G with MIUI 2.6.1 and Matrix 20.0 Kernal goes to 98% as soon as i pull off the charger. if i use it for 45 minutes unplugged its dead. if i use it while its plugged in, it will die!
should i get a new battery?
Yeah that doesn't happen to me... I would try a full wipe and reflash the same ROM (or a different one) and reflash kernel.
If that doesn't work then I would try another battery because that drain seems abnormal
I just wanted to say that I have been having similar battery problems. Using the exact same ROM and Kernel as the OP, today my phone died within 6 hours of use, with the screen having been on for no more than 50 minutes. I also turned off data, and sync during this time, and had my screen's brightness at the minimum.
I've wiped and flashed AOKP b-38 today, and the consumption seems to be much better.
Any thing to help?
thought i was the only one.
is it the kernal?
or is it because its time for a new battery?
How could I test to find out which it is...
Swap kernels. Probably easiest way to test.
Very possible its just an old worn out battery.
Sent by pocket technology.
hoping its just an old battery.
ive switched to CM9 / TouchWiz mod thinking it might be the ROM
im going to use the stock kernal from CM9 for a day to see if i could tell a difference.
ordered a new battery anyways.
saw on a forum somewhere a guy complaining about this problem since he switched to ICS ROMs .. hopefully thats not the case because i LOVE 4.0.X

Well in that case, what have you got installed? If you have apps constantly syncing, that could be part of the problem. What are your battery stats saying is using the most battery? My phone gets warm, but as expected since its being used. If its not being used,it could be a rogue app or the phone could be constantly searching for a good signal.

i have barely any apps.
i only have facebook, xda, sportscenter and instagram installed besides GApps.
i have the problem even before i download apps as i just flashed CM9
also its so bad, that if i start using my battery when its @ 10% PLUGGED IN, it will eventually die on me. even though its charging..

Has this happened before to you on other builds of AOKP or other ROMs you have tried? Has this happened to you before you got the extended battery? Sometimes Android will randomly incorrectly report battery statistics such as percentage remaining. For example, it might say 10% left but that "10%" will last for another 2 hours.

Is the battery new. Has it been conditioned. Drain completely and recharge. Then go from there. Not enough info in 10 minutes to tell what is going on. Install Bettery Battery Stats to see what is running. Gsam Battery Monitor will also give more info on what apps are eating the battery.

After you follow these suggestions if that still doesn't work consider whipping the battery stats file to prevent potential incorrect battery stats usage (You can do this in recovery or by downloading a battery "calibration" app).

I'm still negotiating the hyperion battery issue. The phone does not read the stats correctly with one installed. Battery life is correct but stats are wrong. I think it may have to do with the Jerry rigged nfc that was added to their previously made stockpile.

HaHaa. They got you too?
Yup, was drawn in by the extra 200ma/hr. Pretty sure the stock battery is better, but cannot get any accurate calibration on the hyperion. Which ultimately tells me that there is a fluctuation in the output of the battery. That can't be good for the system... Kind of like using a construction grade generator to power a pc, it'll work, but is it safe? Stopped using the hyperion batteries, keeping as backup.
I actually picked up a separate charger. I just leave the Hyperion in it for about 12+ hrs. I downloaded battery calibration app and it seems to be doing a lot better. Not like the first time I put it in but lasting the entire day. Thanks for the help guys..

maybe root and clear battery stats? Or just flash a stock rom and wipe data to see if the problem persists, if it does, then its probably a hardware issue.
I have this problem sometimes - the battery percentage reported by the phone while its booted into Android will be incorrect (fixed to correct % after rebooting). Sometimes my battery % will be stuck on a certain value for about 30 minutes either while discharging or charging.I find that pulling the battery and doing a clean install of a ROM with a full data wipe on a rooted device fixes the issues sometimes. Funny, there is no definitive fix for this problem that I've found. I guess some devices/batteries/ROMs are more susceptible?

Did you try another Rom/kernel? sounds like a problem with the batterystats or a kernelproblem. Just do a full wipe and give it a new try...:good:
Tried franco kernel..problem still there..and i also notice other problems..when i turn off the phone..i cant boot it normally, into recovery, or fastboot..i need to plug it in to boot it and it will boot into the battery menu stating battery is very low and i have to wait for it to charge..once i can boot into android, the battery will be at 25℅ or more..i dont if this is software or the battery itself is faulty..

I have a similar issue where my battery just idles at 100% for awhile despite heavy usage and then drains normally and when the phone reaches 15%, it'll just die without any "powering down" warning.
