Custom Notification Sound Not Listed - Verizon HTC One (M8)

There is a notification folder and a ringtone folder. I placed an mp3 into the notification folder. When I search for that file, it isn't present (Settings-Sounds-Notifications). If I have the same file under ringtones, I can see it under the ringtones list.
What is the problem that causes me not to be able to use my custom ringtone?

You used a file explorer app to look for the files/folders on your phone, and they aren't there? How are you attempting to put the folders on your phone?

The folders already exist by default. I used a file explorer to move the notification mp3 from DOWNLOAD to NOTIFICATION Folder. Going through options-settings-notifications list, my custom notification does not exist, however, if I moved the mp3 to RINGTONE, I will see it on the list.

[Q] Custom ringtones

Hey all,
How can I set custom ringtones on a Nexus 5 (not rooted)?
There's no option just to set an MP3 file as one.
Thanks

Go to the "sdcard" folder (user storage area, where you put stuff), look for the ringtones folder, stick the mp3 in there. It'll automatically show up in your list of selectable ringtones.

If you install some sort of file explorer (like ES File Explorer) then you should be able to set one when it asks you which app to use to select the ringtone.
Aside from that, if you copy/paste files to the Nexus after plugging in the USB cable and having the Nexus set up as an MTP, that usually works as long as you put the files into the Ringtone or Notifications folder.

[WTF] Custom ringtone upload ?

If somebody will upload the custom ringtone/music file via adb to the /sdcard/Music - no of the stock Sony apps will see it (Sound setting or music player) until reboot My small and stup^H^H Japaneeze devs - here 2017 not the 1997 year !!!!
MX Player sees the files just after upload.
The stock music player is awfull and totally useless. This is big shame for the audio company like Sony. Somebody have to do the harakiri there:
- no way to set the source folders for the music
- nobody knows the source folders names (seems like Music is one of them)
- no way to force folders refresh, so the apps are blind until reboot
- no way to play all the albums you have (!!!!)
- no way to set the play mode (loop album, loop song, go to next album)
It is not the player but the bleeding painful useless app at the "such named top" phone ;(

That's got nothing to do with the sony music app! This is android's stock-media-server's problem, which is a real plague for a long time. Apps, that show new items immediately are doing a different thing: They actively watch specific folders (whether they are customizable or not) and usually don't rely on android's on-board-toys.
About the other point: I agree with you.:good:
Well, the google developers are brain dead by the definition - they just screwing the Linux all the time in favor of Android (try to connect the password-less bluetooth device to the recent Android for ex.). There is excellent "inotify" syscall which they are not aware about. But the google dumbness do not excuse the Sony here
You simply put it in the Ringtone, Notification , Alarm folder on the internal and it will show up when you select Ringtone, Notification, Alarm.
You can also store it on you SD card if you create the folders Ringtone, Notification , Alarm first. They can also be store in a folder

Again - I do not have the sdcard. It is the internal storage. Pushing the file to the Notification/Ringtone/Alarm folder just give you nothing - you still do not have the stock sound choices.

Putting any sound in any of the folders lets the stock audio picker see the file. If you put it in Ringtone audio picker will see a new ringtone, notification, alarm works the same.
It doesn't matter if you put the folders on the internal or external. The most important is that the folders "Ringtone", "Notification", "Alarm" are in the root of internal or external.
I literally just tried this before I posted my comment.
Put files in notification folder.

Custom sounds (notifications, ringtones....)

Hi folks,
I'm just setting up my P40 Pro to see how it will perform in every day life for me So far things are looking good, but on my path to customization I stumbled across the issue of custom sounds for notifications and ringtones.
In the past and with past android phones all sounds installed in the "Ringtones", "Notifications" and "Alarms" folders in internal storage would be used by the media manager and could be selected in the corresponding menus in settings.
With the P40P in settings I get a choice of preinstalled sounds plus the option for "Music on device" - apparently this really does only check in the "Music" folders on internal and external storage, but not in the other folders.
Any idea how to set ringtones and genereal notification sounds from sounds in storage ?
A big thanks in advance,
Axel

Question Adding custom sounds/notifications

I have been trying to add some of the old sounds/notifications to my A32. When I add the sounds (ogg format) to ringtones, etc folders they don't show up as an option for selection. (probably because the phone is not rooted). With Solid Explorer I can Select the sound I want but it never sticks. I still get system sounds. Nothing seems to allow me to add my own custom sounds
Any help greatly appreciated
Use mp3 or wav..not ogg. Android devices never need root for custom sounds/nofication sounds

Unfortunately that does not work. I change ogg to mp3 or wav and place the files in the ringtone, notifications, etc folders. But I cannot apply those sounds

Did you convert the files or just change the file name? You need to convert the files.

Are you placing them in the correct ringtone and notification folders in the file browser? Make sure your doing on the internal storage and not the SD card.

Yes the files are in the folders in internal memory, not SD card. When attempting to select the sound I am asked which app to use. solid explorer or media selector. If I chose solid explorer I can navigate to the folder and select the sound but it does not stick. If I use media selector then the sound does not appear in the list. I have rebooted after adding the sound just in case

When I open settings and check which sound is assigned to which notification I see the name of the sound I chose. But when, for example an email arrives, I get some system sound, like the Samsung whistle, not the sound I selected

Question Pixel 7 Pro Delete notification and ringtone sounds?

I added a cut mp3 (from a song) notification sound to the phone only to find out it wasn't the tone I thought it was. How do I remove it? There doesn't seem to be a way at least from the notification sounds screen.
Go to the Notifications folder on your internal storage and delete the file.
Strange, but it's not in that folder. I can't locate it
You could try the Ringtones folder, although I wouldn't expect it to be there. If that's not where, then I don't know where else to suggest.
If you remember the name of it you could search for it in a file explorer.
Check the internal storage folder Android/media/com.google.android.soundpicker
The "problem" as such is that you can run a ringtone/notification sound from any folder. So you need to remember what folder you placed it in, or do a search on the name, or a *."extension type" to find all of them and delete the one you no longer want.

I found it and another notification/ringtone in that exact location. I have the choice to permanently delete the file. If I delete it, will it delete solely from just that folder, or will it delete from the phone and my music list too?

Yes. it will only delete from that folder, as long as you use a file manager to delete it, and not the sound picker
