Hi,
I would like to develop an app for smartwatch: a reminder to take medicaments, that will displayed on requested time an alarm with the name and quantity of the medicament to take.
The special point of this app would be that this alarm can be snooze, but can be turned off only by "scanning " a RFID tag that would be on the pill box, in order to ensure as much as possible that the user takes the pill.
The point is that it would be for someone with bad memory, so who will most of the time not cary its smartphone with him. A smartphone is easy to leave and forget on a desk then go in another room and therefore miss the reminder, not like with a watch.
The features needed are:
- use of RFID
- the application should work even if not always connected with the smartphone
Could the Sony SmartWatch be used, with a custom firmware maybe, for building such an app?
I'm afraid you can not do that with the SW2 due to hardware limitations. Ok, you can put a custom firmware if you really convince Sony to release the sources or if you are resourceful ... but the NFC reader does not exists. This watch is designed to be a slave ...
A more autonomous device is galaxy gear because it is running android itself and can be used w/o a phone ... but it also lack the NFC reader functionality.
thank you for your answer.
So it seems that for now, no programable smartwatch have this NFC feature and will be independent enough for such an app.
Well, I hope that will change soon, that could be very useful.

Sorry to insist, but it s not clear in my head.
In the specs of the Sony Smartwatch 2, NFC is set as a feature.
http://www.sonymobile.com/global-en/products/accessories/smartwatch-2-sw2/specifications/#tabs
So what does this feature means ? If a NFC tag is presented to the watch, there is no way that the watch can react to it ?
And also about the watch being designed to be a slave, it's also not clear to me: what happens if the watch move out of the range of the mobile phone ? Will it simply stop ?
About custom firmware, I was speaking of this program there : http://developer.sonymobile.com/services/open-smartwatch-project/
Where maybe this NFC feature would be more open.
The watch has a NFC tag on it , not an NFC receiver. It will only TRANSMIT data to the phone or other reader.
So, you can not read NFC tags with the watch.
The "slave" means that for the watch to be fully functional, it will need a master. W/o a phone, this watch is simply a watch .. nothing else.

Thanks for the clarification on the NFC.
And also for the relationship between the watch and the mobile phone. So the sony smartwatch is finally more just "another screen" with touch on it, ok, so no way to use it without other device indeed.

Just to confirm the Kamor NFC tags - NTAG203 Chip (link) works well with the Galaxy S6 phone.
I have thought about buying some of these for a couple different uses. I'm curious what other people are actually using these for on a regular basis. Also how helpful is the "programmable" feature with these when paired with the S6?
In general NFC tags have there uses... I mean there are apps out there that can do almost similar functions if not identical to what NFC tags do. For example an app called Llama can do similar functions such as switch things on/off based on your cell or GPS location. It has a mirad of customizable functions that can be triggered. Another is Tasker. However with NFC Tags, one big advantage as you all may know is the "on demand" of executing functions with the tags. Hence when I put my phone in my car charger the NFC tag that's stuck to the cradle instantly puts my phone in car mode, shutdown Wi-Fi, enable Bluetooth and launch my music player. Same goes for night mode at the night stand charger... Again on demand oppose to time or location. The programming aspect and features are based on the software you use to create the functions. You can pretty much do all the basic phone toggles except for enable/disable GPS. (Android security feature) Some have predefine tasks that you can use to write on the tag as soon as you install the app. Trigger, one of the apps I'm currently using also has predefined brand functions. Like Samsung related tasks to put the phone in low power mode along with other custom functions... However its not device specific so these functions can be a hit or miss in regards to operating. Oddly the latter did not work on my S6. But another NFC app may have it right.
So far I'm really liking these NFC Tags. Not sure if there are better/more features than others but for basic stuff these are doing a lot.
I just bought NFC tags 512, should get them by Saturday, it's for BT in my car as the S6 won't automatically connect to my HTC Car Stereoclip module
I purchased these for my M7 and they still work for the S6

Nice price!!
I have some of the Samsung brand "TecTiles" NFC tags. I've had them for two years. I've yet to find a really good use for them. I'm more likely to use automation based on BT connections or whatnot using Llama, Tasker and/or Trigger as s-one mentioned. I thought I finally had a good use for them recently, and made some things with Trigger, programmed my tags and got ready to rock. I think realized that I can put a shortcut to the Trigger task on my home screen and that it's just as easy, if not easier, to click on that shortcut than to get my phone in just the right spot to hit the NFC tag.
I've got some tags that came with a Moto X 2013 that seem to work OK with the S6.
Sorry for posting this in an old thread but suspect it is the right way anyway as the question is about NFC tags
Could some one confirm WHICH NFC tags/cards Actually work with the Samsung S6(we have the ACTIVE)???
We have some laying around but when we get message saying"nfc tag not supported"
Thank you for assisting
Hi,
I received this gift (Samsung Gear S2) but at the moment my smartphone (Nexus 5) have some issues and i'm wainting that LG send me a new one or fix it.
I have a big issue, how can i set time without smartphone?

Hello KaiserOrn,
Unfortunately I believe there is no way to do that...
I recently found the need to do so because I rendered my Samsung Phone and replaced it with a brand new iPhone 6s Plus...
I tried and I tried and I tried but no joy...
I searched the internet for a solution for hours but I couldn't find anything or even that much people looking for the same kind of solution.
In my case I paired my Gear S2 with a friend's Samsung Phablet, reinstalled everything and now I have it in Stand Alone mode but with everything working as it should.
In my particular case I will have to wait for both Samsung and Apple to launch the Gear Manager for iOS and then we will see it from then...
For now I have my problem solved.
Although I solved my immediate problem, my Gear S2 serves as nothing more than an ordinary watch... LOL
Good luck on your quest.
Cheers.
Hmmm... not sure if this was missing in older firmware (I just got my classic 3G to replace my older sport 3G, so all I have to test is the newest firmware)...
On my watch I can go to Settings->Device and the last item in the list is 'Date and Time'.
Select that, and the first item is a toggle, 'Automatic'. If selected, the watch gets its time from the paired phone, and all the other items in the Date and Time list are grayed out, unselectable.
Toggle 'Automatic' off, and you will then be able to select Date, Time, and Time Zone items to set manually.
Of course, this may be a 3G-only thing, as it can always connect directly to the network and get the time. Still, since there is a manual mode, it makes no sense this wouldn't be in the non-3G versions too.

Dear dwallersv,
That option you mention above is only available on 3G models...
In non 3G models there is no point in having it since "automatic" mode will never have an time server to query...
The manual mode would work but they never made oit available.
Cheers.

Darn, I suspected that.
However, you're not quite correct, in that obviously the non-3G models DO get their time from the phone, so it is "automatic" in every sense that it is on the 3G. In fact, the 3G network can be turned off completely on the watch and it still get its time via BT (just as the non-3G versions do).
So 3G, from a technical standpoint, really has nothing necessarily to do with "automatically" setting the time on the watch.
Why Samsung left the manual setting mode out of the non-3G firmware is unexplained. It certainly has nothing to do with the functionality itself of standalone 3G capability, as is obvious in the way non-3G watches set their time to begin with -- automatically from the phone
I believe it is simply because samsung would like to have dependency on their products.
I would like to stop using a smartphone and I have a samsung tablet, which they choose to exclude from the Samsung Gear App. Samsung makes it impossible to use my watch without a phone which gives me the choice to use all or dump all while using a (Samsung) tablet with Samsung watch would be an ideal solution to me.

This is totally possible, that's how I roll. I use an Frontier LTE as my phone and keep a tablet on hand for tasks requiring a larger screen. I find that a watch & tablet combination is more convenient and efficient than carrying a smartphone.
There are a couple of folks on the forum who have installed the Gear Manager app on a Samsung tablet by modifying the build prop file. I want the flexibility of using multiple devices (iPad, Tab S2) without disrupting the watch's setup, so I have a disposable phone dedicated exclusively to managing the watch. It's permanently docked next to my home router and stays remotely connected to the watch, to pass along notifications. With a service like Digits, NumberSync, or Google Voice, all calls and messages are shared across devices. There is no need for them to to be paired via BT.
My setup is a little complicated, but your needs may be different. The S3 LTE (I'm not sure about S2 3G) does not need a smartphone. It can be setup without Gear Manager. Right out the box, it can handle calls and texts, provide basic info like time/date/weather, track fitness, set reminders, etc.
A watch can't do everything a smartphone can do, but it does some things better. A tablet can do many things better than a smartphone, but sometimes it's too big. A watch and tablet compliment each other perfectly.

I figured this out...
You need to go to "Settings", "About" and "Reset Gear" - note - you will lose all of your apps and watch faces when you reset your gear.
When setting up the gear, you will be prompted to install the gear software on your phone. Scroll down on your watch until you see the "?" for help in that screen.
Press the "?" (question mark button) and you will be brought to a new screen which gives you the option of using your watch without your phone. It says something to the effect of "If you would like to use your watch without a smart phone, press <u>here</u>.
Press underlined "here" and you will be able to setup the watch for use without a smartphone.
Again - this is a destructive reset! So make sure all of your apps and watch faces are synched in a phone first.
I own an Urbane 2nd LTE, and really like the build quality, look, and the promise of having a real "watch phone" However, I am quite disappointed with the need to tether to another phone. I desire a truly, tether free, stand alone, Adroid watch Phone, not android wear 2.0, which accepts nano sim cards. As I am aware of a number of Chinese watch phones, with similar specs, running full android 5.1 ( but I am assuming the build quality is limited with these watched), I am wondering if anyone has considered, attempted, or have been successful in loading full android on the Urbane 2nd? I scoured the threads as best I could, but did not find anything related to this.
My use case, I have a business phone and a personal phone. For evenings, weekends, and vacations, I would like to mostly disconnect, not carry a phone in my pocket, but still have the ability to take personal calls and access the internet in a pinch.
The cpu's plenty capable but isn't the screen size a problem? An older version, cupcake or donut or eclair, one that supports smaller screen resolution maybe
I've tried to install multiple phone apps (not their wear versions) on AW2.0 and even though some of them worked, their UI is not prepared for such a small screen. So even if you manage to run regular Android on the watch, many (most?) apps will be unusable due to the inability to correctly show their UI. I'm an Android developer and I don't test my apps on such small screens and I doubt any of them would work - buttons placed out of screen etc.

Isn't the purpose of the lg urbane 2nd edition LTE that it doesn't have to be tethered to your phone and that you can take it with you without your smartphone? I'm looking into buying this smartwatch but i don't know if i should wait a few more weeks/months when android wear 2.0 smartwatches come out.

With AW 1.5 it was never meant to be completely standalone with all services functioning. With a SIM in the watch you can make calls/texts from the watch without any connection to the phone but in order to receive all notifications and use all services you need to be paired, but you can pair through cell data and still leave the phone at home. I leave my phone behind a few times a week and forward my calls to the watch. With 2.0 I'm sure it will be even more standalone but I haven't tested the DP yet.

With AW2.0 it can be really a separate device, but most of the apps don't support that and won't work without a phone. It will definitely get better with the final release and soon after.

If DP5 does come with Android Pay, I may give it a try. I like the direction it's heading, but worry about the data increase. I'm using a pay as you go SIM in the watch and use very little data with 1.5. Of course I currently only activate the SIM when running. Curious to see if my usage/habits change much with the new standalone features.
Yes it is possible .
What is possible?
Running Android 5.1?
How?
Just curious - is there a list of compatible / working apps that can be side loaded onto the Urbane 2nd edition? Thanks

A list of working sideloaded apps but mainly for wear 1.5 and not maintained anymore..
https://forum.xda-developers.com/android-wear/general/list-sideloaded-android-wear-apps-t2908106
and from another thread on XDA my personal quest to find a working satnav app to sideload (as Google Maps is not in any way standalone...)
"...sideloaded Navigon 4.6.2 and its works and is useable standaone on my watch (a LG Watch Urbane 2nd Edition).
No back button means I need to use Wear 2.0s force close an app ability each time I change a setting in the program but once its set up it works. Maps all downloaded to the watch via wifi.
Screen is a little cluttered but useable, and it does take up a big chunk of memory on the watch, but for driving it works pretty well. (walking navigation screen is, sadly, unuseable). For the record it seems to use 1% of battery power every 2 minutes...meaning it could potentially last 3 hours!!"
I also run (sideloaded full android versions) es file explorer, bs player and imediashare (to dlna videos on the watch to a tv via wifi). They are all older versions but are all still usable on Wear 2.0.

To sideload full android apps I use ADB on my laptop. This uses the laptops usb link to my phone, my phone then "pushes" and installs the apk files to the watch via bluetooth. You start with the apks on the laptop and use the correct ADB commands to install to the watch. Slow, but it works.
The watch will not install apk files sideloaded directly to the watch.
Most full android apps will not run at all....but some do.....
This forum is for every one who want to share info, experience and hope... about a strange pair between the iPhone (that in my opinione is still the best phone, and I've a iPhone 6 and a Samsung S5) and the Gear S3 that is much better than iwatch.
Actually there is a long way for obtain a full compatibility between them.
Any one know, or suppose how the iOS gear s app will integrate the S3 and if there were, in the early future, the possibility to answer to the message.

I hope this changes in future updates...
iPhone 7 and S3 here as well. So far quite ok for a first version. I guess it's a pretty good opportunity for Samsung to conquer some Alien terrain here if they do well. I hope I won't get disappointed.
It´s suppose to be an solution if you install the app "Android Ware" on the Iphone, just install and leave it alone they say, and it adds some protocols that make it possible to answer messages on the S3 from the Iphone.
Have tried this, but not getting it to work.

Why would the "Android Wear" app do anything for a TizenOS watch? The Gear S3 is not running Android Wear.
Anyway, I also have the Gear S3 and a iPhone6. The phone choice, for sure, is not going to change. But when it comes to smartwatches, the Gear S3 is a beauty and packed with features. The AppleWatch feels more like a toy or a calculator.
I just hope the Software will improve when it comes to iPhone compatibility.
- The Gear manager must allow for paid apps and watchfaces. We currently only get the free stuff.
- Interactive notifications (think this is a limitation in the iOS API).
- Samsung Pay is missing for iOS (hope it comes to European countries as well).
Like the idea that Tizen is expanding the development possibilities for apps. Soon we will be able to program apps with .net & C#, which is awesome!

Hello guys,
Using the Samsung Gear S3 with my iPhone 6. Works really good actually!
I got one question though. Do any of you got problems with the S Health App? When I have been out running, with just the watch, the training is recorded then transefered to the S Health App. I can see the correct trainingoccasion but when I try to enter it to see the map the app just freezes. Shorter runes below 1km works, but longer ones just freezes the app...
Anyone else with this problem?
Thanks

Unfortunately, this is a known issue with the Gear App and iOS. It freezes every time you go into s-health map or details. Lots of other issues, like no Strava integration. Hopefully, Samsung is working on this and will post an update to the Gear App soon. Otherwise this the Gear S3 is too finicky to put up with, and there are other non-Applie watches that are MUCH more stable

IPhone 6 and gear s3 (LTE) User. Not quite sure I'm able to establish a remote pairing with my phone. The watch goes into standalone mode and I can make and receive calls and texts with the number exclusive to the watch, however I don't receive notifications from the phone in case I leave it behind at home.
I previously used the first gen Gear S with Samsung note 4 edge and getting a remote connection was no issue and I would still receive notifications from the phone in case I left in behind. I suspect remote connection with iPhone or any non Samsung phone is a problem. Any help would be highly appreciated.

1. The S3 can remotely connect to many Android phones, it doesn't have to be a Samsung phone.
2. While RC is necessary to receive notifications from a phone, services like Digits and Google Voice will allow sharing a phone number and messages even when the watch is in standalone mode.
3. The RC phone doesn't have to be your primary phone.
I have a cheap Android phone permanently docked on my home WiFi, that is dedicated to remotely connecting to my watch. It is never connected via BT to my primary device (an iPad or Samsung tablet). All calls, messages, email, etc come to all my devices simultaneously.
Work-Around for Notifications on S3
FYI for the forum. I found a way to get far more notifications out of the S3 Frontier on iPhone. When I first purchased it (had an Apple Watch), I completely disconnected the Apple Watch from the iPhone, and then connected the new S3 Frontier to it. Worked OK, just not alot of notifications coming through on it. Then I tried something. I unpaired the S3, tehn re-paired the Apple Watch, let it fully sync up, then left it in the charger in the bedroom. I then Re-paired my S3 to the iPhone, and guess what - I get ALL of the same notifications on the S3 that I was getting no the Apple Watch - Text, phone calls, emails, Google maps, everything. APPARENTLY, (this is a guess but as good as I can come up with), the iPhone THINKS it's still talking to the Apple Watch. And No - the Apple watch does not even have to be anywhere near the iPhone. So - If you don't have an Apple Watch, find a friend who does. Disconnect your Gear from your phone, connect it to your friends Apple watch and let it fully pair. Once done, walk away (your friend can re-pair his Apple Watch to his phone after you leave), then when back home, repair your S3 to your iPhone and Viola!
With you not having a problem connecting your S7 to your S2 and and your Apple watch to your iPhone, the problem is probably your iPhone as Bluetooth connection is also reported dropping when iPhone is connected to other products. It’s common, even the new wireless Q-Tips for your ears have been dropping connection.
Thanks,

Apple does not provide an API for third-party app to access SMS. So no app will have this permission.
Hi everybody !
I'm the lucky owner of a OnePlus One rooted whith custom rom (Resurrection Remix Oreo 8.1 [latest build]) and I was wondering about some tricks to do with the NFC HCE built-in the OPO.
Where I Work, we use NFC cards (MiFare Classic 1K) to access different parts of the building, and i forget my card all the time at home. So I looked on the internet and stumble upon the Card Emulator app which can (if you're rooted) scan the UID of an NFC tag and write it in the HCE part of the NFC module in the OPO.
So I'm able through this method to use my phone while its screen is on and unlocked. Then I wanted to do so while the screen is off, that's why i installed Xposed and the NFC LockScreenOff Enabler module.
But it doesn't seem to work.
My question is, is there a way or an another to use this application while the phone screen is off ?
thanks !
I do not have an answer for your question, but thank you for mentioning this app, I have it now too

You're welcome. But keep in mind that this is only effective when the software that manages the NFC tag readers only use the UID to complete the authentification, which is not secured at all if you value my opinion... I hope that most of modern aunthentication system retailers don't rely anymore on such use of NFC tags.
Have you looked into Menu-Advanced-Xposed in this app?
There is an option Enable NFC when screen is off...
Haven't noticed it ! Will try ASAP. Thanks !
