Remap hardware key - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm looking for an easy way to remap my menu button to open recent apps instead. Any suggestions other than xposed because I keep hearing that could break things. Running cleanrom 8.1
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app

Just grab xposed. I have never had any issues with xposed or any modules. I think the people that say that they have issues are just not doing things correctly or are using outdated versions. Xposed installer puts an uninstall zip on your SD card anyway that you flash in recovery. That will get you out of a bootloop or whatever else.

Xposed breaks certain things from running.
Couple things I've encountered are Final Fantasy games and songza, apps won't even open if the framework is installed.
Those are only a couple things out of a ton of stuff I use, but it certainly causes other issues for some.

As far as remapping goes, it should be possible, but I wouldn't know where to start.
I know there are tutorials on how to manually switch buttons, like tell your home button to act like a power button. But I'm not sure if there's an easy way to do what you want it to do.
Xposed is a good option, if it breaks something that you need it's very easy to uninstall. I'd say give that a whirl as it's much easier to customize things. I just can't live with the few things it breaks for me.

[HOW-TO] JellyBean - Media storage / Battery drain fix. [11/6/2012]

So here is what I found by trying to stop battery drain caused by the media storage+heating etc. I Of course can't guarantee this working for everybody but I tried this with 2-different JellyBean ROM's twice and it worked all 4 times on my device :victory:
This will have a few Reboots so bare with me. (because I believe reboots make a difference)
For all of you who have a JellyBean ROM already installed and have the battery drain skip to Step.8
1. Download your JellyBean ROM of choice
2. Place on SD card
3. MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP of your current ROM
4. Wipe data, cache and dalvik cache
5. Select ROM of choice from the SD card (Most ROM's these days come with an Aroma-Installer so remember what you picked to be installed and what not.)
6. Boot device
7. Set up the phone and let it restore all apps. Set everything you will use (facebook, e-mail, flipboard etc) -then ReBoot
8. I used TitaniumBackup and removed "Media Storage" and I also removed "Downloads 4.1.1"
9. ReBoot into Recovery & wipe cache and dalvik cache
10.Dirty-Flash your ROM of choice which you chose @ Step.5 and chose the same features if possible.
11.Install your prefered Kernel optional (I personally chose Ktoosez 3.0.49 just because it gave me good battery life)
12.Wipe cache and dalvik the last time and also fix permissions.
13.ReBoot the last time and enjoy!
Hope this was helpful and will work for most of you early JellyBean users. :fingers-crossed:

Are you all letting the media storage run for a few hours before trying this? Mine ran for like 2 hours on the charger with power save on, then it started deepsleep and has been fine sense.
The reason. I believe, it makes clips for all your videos that play in thumbnail view in the gallery, and indexes and thumbnail all your pictures. It's normal

When you installed CR 4.0 what items did you select? I think it may have to do with what apps are installed more then anything else.
Basically, install the bare minimum and see if you still have problems. Maybe it is something is getting installed in your process that is causing the problem.
I would leave off "adfree" for sure as well as anything else that effects media.
Launcher: only install one launcher(TW. If you want to add apex or Nova do it from the market after. I am using Nova but from the market.
Samsung Apps: left them all off.
You can always add on after you fix the issue.

[Q] how do i intigrate an aroma installer into a rom

Hi
I want to intigrate an aroma installer into a Rom. How do I do this.
Thank you

Search for a guide. What ROM is it?
PS. Always search before posting.

Cleanrom for one xl. The developer said I could
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
Are you a developer? No offense, but it's very complicated, you'd need a lot of experience.
Sent from my Evita
Wouldn't consider my self one. Don't want to build one from scratch. There are downloadable ones on xda just want to know how to intigrate it
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
To be honest, you have a lot of reading to do. Firstly, aroma can be very tricky. You'll also need to know how to build/edit a ROM in order to execute it properly. Search Google for some guides.
Sent from my Evita
Have searched and don't find what I want. Is there an easy way
Sent from my HTCONE using xda app-developers app
No, there isn't an easy way. If you don't know Android code you won't be able to.
What are you trying to accomplish? In what way do you want to change Cleanrom?
Sent from my Evita
to make it more customizeable. mabe add nova launcher and a couple of other apps. is tthere any way of removing the aroma that comes standard with cleanrom
You don't need an aroma installer to add those apps though, you can just install them after the ROM boots, or you can add them to the zip before you flash.
Sent from my Evita
Unless you intend on flashing this ROM again and again, or sharing your work, I don't see a point in even integrating the apps into the ROM.
Just install the apps. Backup the apps with Titanium if you think you will be flashing the ROM frequently.
I think you are making this a lot more complicated than need be.
If the goal is to tinker around, and learn how to develop, than use the XDA site search and start reading. There are several guides on how to cook ROM, setup AROMA, etc.
Get that alot. I am a beginner and will readily take as much advice as I can get.

It's probably an issue with your Google account. I would try erasing it completely and re-adding it. You could also try flashing a custom playstore or installing a different one to see if you can fix the problem.
It isn't rom related.

yeah bro. foxfi wireless tether works.
there is a free version and a paid version though.
there are 2 annoying things.
1 it's not free
2 it forces you to "lock" your phone with a password/pattern/or pin number.
So are any AOSP roms supported with safestrap? I'm looking at the download list and it's just modified TW roms.
My brother took the OTA, but is now interested in switching to AOSP and I wanted to make sure it was even possible.

I'd suggest supersu and supersu pro and pro of course isn't free but really worth it.
Here is supersu
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu
And SuperSu Pro
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.supersu.pro
Titanium backup also is a great app along with the pro version which in the long run is well worth it.
I'm not sure about busybox and titanium however, I'll leave that to someone who knows

[Q] Installing Xposed Framework - with Wanam Xposed.

I'd like to try out Xposed Framework with Wanam Xposed.
I'm currently on NE1 -stock/official - towelrooted /SuperSU & busybox. I've been checking out the XDA forums, and trying to keep up on some of the different topics for info. Now I've just reached the fork in the road, trying to decide which method would be best for maintaining performance and having the least amount of bugs (if any). So my question is, a) do I just install the Xposed framework and Wanam xposed or b) should I install safestrap - create a ROM slot with Xposed framework - Wanam Xposed?
Any suggestions
will be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

You should just install the Xposed framework and Wanam xposed module if you're locked BL and rooted. No need for safestrap.

Just be aware Wanam does cause issues for some users. I've had to uninstall it more times than I've had to install it. I eventually gave up with it. And some Xposed modules may cause issues with installed apps. Just be aware

Yes my BL is locked. I was leaning towards that direction for the fact it would be easier, thanks for confirming that.
I can always uninstall if it doesn't work out.

Thanks for the info.
My device has always been stock until recently. I decided to try out modding after reading some of the different posts, that this is probably the last update for these phones, with the exception of some small updates.
I saw the video on Wanam Xposed, and how it works well for TW, thought to give something different a try.
Thanks again, this was my first post.
