Hey,
I'd like to know if it's possible to root my S3, and be able to install a stock version of Android, without all that bloatware and such. My phone has been getting incredibly slow, not being able to keep up with my typing as much either. I've tried cleared cache, uninstalling apps, etc.

Thanks.

I'm not interested in any TouchWiz crap though
I wanted to just get like normal jelly bean software as seen on the older Nexus? I guess if that makes any sense sorry.

TouchWiz is really ugly too. It's kind of stupid I can't just put a regular version of android on it.

I have successfully flashed Touch Wiz based ROMs but every time I try to flash anything else the GAPPs file does't flash right or the ROM in general soft boots. Any idea what I am doing wrong? I am currently running CleanRom 5.0....runs perfectly. But I can't get any CyanogenMod or AOKP roms to flash properly. I use clockworkmod recovery 6.1 (something like that).I am on the lastest radio and modem. I have never flashed a kernel.
What is gapps are you trying to flash?

Gapps are only got the Aokp and Aosp roms. No need to flash then with TW roms. That may be your problem.

You should just use the ex recovery to install the recovery, I use cwm, then boot into recovery wipe everything, flash ROM, flash gapps reboot and enjoy. Make sure you used ez unlock version 1.2 from rootzwiki and you should be good. Like I said what is the file name of your gapps seen people use old ones that caused problem.

The GAPPS I flashed was the one that the instructions for installing the ROM told me to flash. Hard to remember the number because different ROMs had different GAPPs. EZ Unlocker 1.4? You may be on to something. Not sure which one I used because I hadn't loaded it back on after the last flash. But it is possible I used the current version instead of 1.4. Should I install the correct version....do a lock and then an unlock? And try again?

What is this
This is MIUI for Retail Asian/ATT phones, this rom based on MIUI patch rom for Retail China stable branch project and re-packed for retail Asian/ATT phones.
This rom solved the battery drain issue(wake lock issue) when flashing official miui on retail asian/att phones.
Modded
As the stable miui branch not support the root permission function, I used the common SU binary, this means U need to install SuperUser or SuperSu to manager the root permission if U installed this rom.
There's no other extra mods, it is a pure "official" MIUI.
If U got FC after installing this rom, please DO A WIPE DATA/CACHE
How to install
This is for retain Asian/ATT only
- U should flash this rom on an ICS stock rom(I mean, your kernel should be 3.X, and your stock rom should be ics)
- If you're on CM10, flash via cm's recovery
If you're on other roms, Install bootstrap to flash this rom
- Wipe
- install this rom
- reboot
- enjoy it
WARNING
As always, I take no responsability for damaged phones, the user has full responsability. I am not responsible for any data loss and or bricked phones.I assume the user has read this README file and knows what he is doing。

I believe this is a "fixed" version of the Official MIUI that is based on ICS from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1914096). It should have everything the other MIUI has plus the battery fix.

3. Reset to factory default.
4. Cleared dalvik cache.
5. Went to mounts, formatted /system. (I always do)
6. Flashed zip.
7. Added ATT APNS.
Freaking awesome.
On ATT net in California. Tested texts, and web so far. Both working

So what about the MIUI settings apps and stuff? Like the ones that let you edit the statusbar. Would I be able to find them apps, install them and use them properly? Or no?
EDIT: Just did a google search and can't find those apks anywhere. Anyone know where I could get the MIUI apps?
Hey guys, been messing around with apks from the GT-I9000 version of MIUI 3.4.12 and scott.hart.bi's CM10.1 to see if I can get a a pretty smooth working version of MIUI for the Infuse. Not sure how well it will turn out but for anyone interested I'll post a link when I finish. I've done a little similar with the Mytouch 3G Slide before with pretty meh results but we'll see what happens.
You have to replace more then just apks. Permissions, intd, etc
Look at bradman117 port post in android development section. That should help. If you want I can just port it for you.

Ok we have a problem
I ported it correctly.. And I flash rom then gapps and it gets stuck on miui boot screen
I boot into recovery, flash rom again and reboot. Then it starts to optimize miui apps, then continues to boot on miui screen. But just sits there. I'm thinking it's because I'm on 4.2.2 and trying to flash a 4.2.1 rom. Is anyone on a 4.2.1 rom that can test this? Or a gingerbread rom? I'll upload it

I think it should work if you're porting from 4.2.1 to 4.2.2 but don't ever try to flashed that to gb it will brick your phone.
Nah it won't. There have been plenty of people that flashed jb from GB without a problem. The worst that can happen is you lose your imei and have to Odin back to stock. I actually went from gb to jb just fine without ics.
Also i found the problem in updater script

The build in where?
Hi all-
I'm new posting here, but I've been reading for months. I first wanted to say thanks to all the developers and other helpful folks here. I have a VZW GS3 - rooted, unlocked bootloader, currently running CleanRom 6 with KindaCrapMods and TWRP 2.5.0.0 as my custom recovery. I've had a few problems here and there, but with the help of the search feature and a little reading, I've always been able to sort things out. THANKS!!!
So, on to the question. I noticed that there was no stock 4.1.2 firmware (MB1) available for a long time after it was released for OTA. I figured that this was because it was a relatively small patch, unlike the previous leaks and OTA (e.g. LK3), which were a full jump in Android API level. Maybe Samsung had not released a full version that could be flashed in Odin, or maybe it just hadn't been compiled by a dev yet. Anyway, I noticed a couple of days ago that there was an MB1 firmware posted at samsung-updates.com
Does anyone know if this is the real deal? Is it full wipe? If so, then it should be helpful to those who are looking for a way to get back to MB1 stock without having to go all the way back to LK3 and then take the OTA. Also, maybe now that we have a full Odin-able MB1, we could get an update to the Factory Image root/unlock guide by open1your1eyes0 or one of the other root guides.
Thanks again!
I just downloaded and flashed it via Odin. It is indeed MB1 and full wipe. It booted up fine for me. No issues thus far
Hmm, appreciate the heads up on this
Nice. Thanks for posting this. I hadn't seen that they had the 4.1.2 download up. For some reason it is hard to find an image of this rom completely stock. Thanks!

Gonna have to do this on mine to get the latest OTA.
There's nothing wrong with my current rom but the new OTA won't install because I used Titanium Backup to get rid of some of bloatware, which of course is among the things the OTA wants to update. For example, there is no longer an All-Sharecast app on my phone. Never used it. Don't need it. Blew it away. However, not finding it, the whole OTA aborts.
N/m
Turns out it was a very good thing that I found this. The new MD3 OTA sent my signal strength down the tubes. So I used this to Odin back to MB1 stock. I did a full wipe, loaded TWRP, then rooted, unlocked bootloader, and went back to CleanROM6 R2. All is well again.
If it ain't broke...
Hello. Question from yet another guy afflicted by the Knoxification. I was just wondering if I should flash a custom 4.3 with Saferecovery or if there's no point and it's going to be as laggy as Saferooted Stock. So...have customs like MOAR and Sensations been running better for people who safe-flashed, or do they lag as much as Saferooted Stock? Thanks!

First your slowness may due to that you took the OTA upgrade. If you manually Odin flash the stock rom, your phone should run well. I did this on my wife's phone and it's running very smoothly and quick. Second, people reported that custom TW rom should run slightly better than stock, but in my thinking they should have a bit more bugs comparing to stock. My stock 4.3 has no issue at all and running well.

No, make sure your pc has the correct driver for your phone then just download Odin onto your PC.Put your phone in download mode (power off phone, hold vol down+home+power button, when see the icon hit the volume up, phone should said download) then connect it to your pc, Open Odin, select PDA option, browse to the factory firmware,(after download you must unzip it first, it should be in the .md5 extention), then click go.
