Get Xposed XGels Module. You can get rid of that and get tons of user options like on Nova, etc.

i used to use it but i don't like it other launchers, too much settings and complicated...

If you want to get it removed you will have to use xposed or use other launchers... No other way...

it is risky to use xposed!?

If you follow the instructions, it is fairly straightforward.
Are you already rooted? (if not, you will need to root, and unlocking the bootloader as part of the rooting process will wipe your phone clean). Once you are rooted, perform a nandroid backup (you should do that before any changes to the system files anyway)
If your phone is running stock, xposed is fairly low risk (I'd like to say "0 risk", but that is never true). If you are on a custom ROM, xposed may not be compatible.

No, and you will find that the GEL launcher is greatly enhanced with the xposed module. You can click on my signature "xposed framework" to take you to the xposed thread.

Any change to the stock system files will prevent OTA. That includes removing system apks, editing/deleting system files . XPosed replaces a system file, so yes, that will prevent OTAs. BUT, the good thing is that it is easy to revert back. Remember to NOT uninstall the XPosed app. Instead, go into the XPosed installer, and use the option there to uninstall. That will restore the original system file, and you can then download the OTA.zip and flash it in custom recovery.

Now that you have installed XPosed, do try out other modules too - Gravitybox is one of my favorites. But before anything else, take a nandroid backup (I hope you took a nandroid backup before installing XPosed. Copy that backup to another location (maybe your computer, or cloud storage) as well.

thanks again. but will i still receive update notice through the ota. i found a pronlem with this app, it turn off wifi and data when the screen off, maybe for save bat purpose, but that makes me lose instant emails and messages, any suggestions?

So if I root my phone, I can install non market apps?

Is it as simple as rooting and then being able to install non market apps such as amazon app store, swype, etc? I really dont want to have to do all that sideloading BS...I would rather just root and be able to do it like any other android phone on any other carrier.
In my opinion side loading is easier than rooting but the answer to your question is yes. You can install non-market apps.

While I've never done manual sideloading, whatever the process is and however lengthy it is, wouldn't it be easier just to root and be done with it, rather than having to go through that process for each app?
Rooting isn't that hard, it just requires diligent attention to the process. Once.

That's what I'm wondering. So, after I root (root is easy, I've done it on many phones), am I ready to install non market apps or is there stuff that I have to do AFTER root to be able to install non market apps?
Rooting your phone doesn't in Itself enable sideloading....its flashing a Rom that the developer has enabled that feature. They just tend to go hand in hand.
Look up AC sideload wonder machine, its a very easy few click method to install non market apps on any stock phone, I'm sure some don't work, and I haven't tried on my inspire as I am rooted and rom'd, but it worked very well on the atrix when I had it

Well I can tell you with complete certainty the "one click" rooting method for the inspire (bubbys tool), does enable "unknown sources."
I went through the process the night before the amazon app store went live. First day it was up I had angry birds Rio on my phone (market didn't have it yet).
While I can't say from personal experience, as I didn't use the original "hack kit" rooting method, I'd be willing to bet my phone that it too enables sideloading as a result of its rooting process.
Sent from my Inspire using XDA Premium
I think...and I could be wrong...that both the hack kit and the one click method load a stock image with the unknown sources turned on.
Maybe someone with more knowledge. could tell us..because now I'm really curious to know.
Can a phone be rooted and not have the ability to sideload...not trying to argue...I'd like to know for reference.

Well, I remember with my captivate, the super one click for that didn't enable sideloading in the actual rooting process itself. Granted, the button to do so was practically right next to the root button in the programs interface, but it was a separate process from rooting, and I actually didn't bother to do the sideloading thing at the time (no real need then).
So the two don't necessarily always coexist for every phone at any given moment.
Just depends on the phone and how the devs who created a particular rooting process decided to do it, would be my guess.
Sent from my Inspire using XDA Premium
Sideloading apps I believe is all up to the Rom running on the phone, and sense this phone has to be downgraded to another Rom anyways to root, I would imagine most roms support it, basically its not going to be available on every Android root, but most likely it will be available on any inspire root.

So can anyone else confirm that the one click root enables unknown sources? I don't want to flash any roms...I just want to have unknown sources in my settings.
Also, does the one click root have any known problems (or cause problems)?

When you root you can flash back the stock rom w/unknown sources enabled or you can just cook up your own stock version using the xda kitchen with all the features you like.
Rooting in and of itself does not enable sideloading.
Ok now I'm confused. Can anyone show me the simplest steps to get unknown sources up and running and be as close to stock as possible? You guys are making it sound like rooting flashes an entirely different rom, which is not the case for the tons of other android phones I have rooted.

Angry Birds Rio apk
Google is your friend.
Angry Birds Rio is available free from the Market now. No need to sideload that one.

I haven't confirmed this, but I assume this is correct. The phone is protected against apps installing from outside the market, and the sideload tool works around this by (I assume) running its own adb commands, so without the tool, apps will still be blocked from installing.

Why? I rarely use it, and have only installed it a few times but don't usually keep it installed.
Honestly it's not necessary, but does let you easily install a custom recovery in some situations. For an S-OFF device there are much easier and more convenient ways to do so.
For the first few months we had the device there was no official recovery and ROM Manager was dangerous to use (not so anymore)

Press "flash recovery" and grant Superuser permissions. Not that hard.
Delivered via candygram for Mr. Mongo.
Haha I didn't realize I was so far out of the loop! With my phones, I root to get access to system folders, system apps, and to run adfree. I don't flash ROMs at all and always keep stock ROM. If I saw "ROM manager" before, I probably brushed it off without thinking because I associated it with custom ROMs.

Not only that - but i've noticed on the stock ROM every time I plug my phone into a computer without rebooting first it locks up and restarts - I have yet to have this happen on my ROM or any of the others I used before that.
Once you root the stock ROM, it just doesn't seem to work as well, and I had the restart issue before root was available for us with this device. At first I thought it was my computer doing it, but now with an older desktop in service it happens on that too, and other random computers I plug into that my friends own too...I dunno.
There is a lot to be said for running a custom ROM instead of the stock one, beyond all the little fixes and enhancements they bring.
...but, that's why we all work together here to constantly bring better software with more support for these devices all over XDA.

When is the last time you cleared cache and dalvik-cache? That might help with some of your issues.
I wrote a flashable-zip package that will do just that if you don't want to do it manually, it does a wipe (not format) so is compatible with all 3 clockworkmod recoveries we have available, since 4.0.0.8 and 4.0.0.9 don't implement the format command correctly.
Blue6IX said:
Third one is: Blue6IX_C01_Wipe.zip
MD5: a8c57de781b2abfca2dfcdcae57d439c
This one will wipe the /cache partition and also wipe dalvik-cache. Use this one if you are having problems with specific apps, especially when changing to a different version of an already installed app.

Either manually doing it or flashing my script might help with your issues, or might have no effect.
The next time you boot after doing so the machine will have to rebuild both cache and dalvik-cache, so it will take a little longer to boot that first time and after it's done and has sat for 5 minutes or so you should reboot the machine again before using it, just to get everything worked out right.
Hope it helps!

Rooting should never erase any data, unless you are flashing a pre-rooted ROM on your Nexus. I'm a Samsung Admire user, not Nexus.... but that seems to be a universal thing, there, buddy.
I'm still new, so this is not an active link, but this should answer your questions alot better than I ever could, and you may even be able to find support in your native language, whatever that might be.

Actually, on a number of phones you must unlock the bootloader to root the phone, and in some cases, (for security reasons) the phone is wiped when you unlock the bootloader. (I know this warning is given when unlocking an HTC phone's bootloader, although for me nothing was wiped; I don't know what the case is with the Nexus devices)

How to disable update notification

Hey guys,
First off, I am an admitted noob. From what I can tell, updating to 2.20/4.04 will un-root your device so I'm looking for a way to disable the update notification. Is there a way to get it to stop bugging me until 2.20 is rooted?
Also, how do upgrades generally work when you're rooted and want to maintain root?
Thanks!

Normally with OTAs, after the OTA is downloaded, you will have the option to install or not. Just cancel, then delete the file from the SD card. Somebody will have to verify this is the case (haven't gotten the notification, personally), but that is normally how HTC does it. You have to be really careful not to hit the wrong option. But once you've cancelled the install, you won't get any more notifications for this particular OTA.
Really, the "settings" method suggested by footbal9584 seems much safer (as a wrong button press will actually install the OTA for my way). But if his method doesn't work, you might try mine.
Also, all the info you will probably ever need about unlocking the bootloader, flashing ROMs, etc. can be found in my Index thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671237
There you will find a method for keeping your user data while doing the bootloader unlock. But honestly, I'd recommend not going through the hassle. If you intend to flash custom ROMs, you should wipe data anyway.

Nandroid is a full backup of the ROM, all user data, apps, and settings. If you are flashing custom ROMs, that is not what you want for restoring user data, etc. But its a good idea to do a nandroid backup of the stock ROM, in case you want to go back.
Titanium Backup is great for backing up user apps, and some settings. Some people use it to restore various settings, but this can be problematic, as all ROMs don't treat this data the same. Personally, I just use Titanium to backup and restore my apps and app save data, and sometimes WiFi and Bluetooth pairings. But I configure everything else manually. Usually takes me about 20 minutes to do it all when moving between ROMs.

Did not work for me -- I started getting chain notifications, hella annoying.
NOTE: even when the only available button is 'Install', the back button on your phone still works.
If I freeze the updater, will it break my phone?
I do not know I highly doubt it would but no guarantees. I cleared my data before it downloaded anything it just started the "there is an update you cannot use tour phone during install do you want to install now" I postponed it 8 hours a few times, but then just cleared the data and still haven't gotten any notifications.
Maybe see of what the other user said is correct maybe the update was downloaded to your phone and you need to remove the file before it will leave you alone.

At least on other devices, if you let the OTA download, then cancel it, it should stop the notifications. Can you confirm or deny this?
You can then just find the file on the internal SD and delete it. At least that is how it worked on the HTC Flyer.
If you can confirm, this would probably be a handy method for others. At least one other person is asking how to cancel the install (and other that want to stop the notifications, I'm sure): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29903041

No. Sense is not just an app. Its built into the framework of the OS itself, and is incorporated into many aspects of the OS. Deleting the app called HTC Sense will likely result in erratic behavior of the phone, or stop it from performing correctly. Is there a specific aspect of Sense that you want to remove, and if so, why?

Yes, you can freeze the Sense launcher, but it's potentially risky. If something went wrong with Apex, say with an update, then you have no backup launcher and no way to operate the phone. You would need to reflash your rom. It will also kill all the Sense functions.

Thanks much.
I wanted to remove the launcher just because I thought it would save memory as I use Apex. Am I wrong in thinking this and I should just leave it?
I like my lock screen shortcuts, I assume this "may" disable that feature?

Not "may", uninstalling the launcher will absolutely break your lock screen shortcuts.
You can try this. But I recommend making a nandroid first, in case things get screwed up. And don't know if uninstalling the Sense launcher will break other things.
Perfect thanks folks.
I installed nandroid and went to run it and it said my Busybox was not the latest. How exactly can I upgrade that and will it break my ViperXL Rom?

Did you make a nandroid in team win recovery?

No I downloaded the app from the market and tried to initiate a backup and it ran through its checks and stopped at the Busybox check. It said my version was lower than 1.2.0 exiting.

Do it in TWRP. I've never heard of this app and I have no idea if it works with this phone. Doing it in recovery is not a big deal and you can be sure it will work.

Agreed, I have never heard of a nandroid app.
Just go into TWRP, and make a backup from there.
I'm still amazed at how many people are flashing ROMs, and don't even know how to make a backup of their ROM.

I made a backup in TWRP before and after I flashed my ROM. I was just wondering if that app I found made it easier. Never restored a backup yet, never needed to. I assume it should work ok.
Thanks for everyone's help.

How much easier do you need it to be? Especially on a custom ROM, just use the power button option to boot into TWRP, then one tap and a swipe, and its backed up.
I'm assuming you mean apps like ROM Manager and the like. All they do is automate the process a little, but the phone is just doing the same exact thing in the background (booting into recovery and doing a nandroid from there). You also should be careful, in that such apps are often expecting CWM to be your recovery or may assume you have a international One X. If such is the case, the nandroid backup might not work, or you can even do irreparable damage to your phone.
Much safer to leave such apps alone, and just backup in TWRP.

Thanks much appreciated. I will just leave it and do it that way. Probably better in the long run.
Thanks again.

You can "freeze" HTC Sense with Titanium Backup... Just make sure you have Nova or Apex installed first.
No harm in trying... Really, Ho harm in trying.
