I'm running the latest MultiROM TWRP v2.7.0 and I'm unable to install roms via USB OTG. I can mount and install other zip files such as kernels, root, or mods just fine. Yet when it comes to flashing a rom (CM11) I get errors saying TWRP cannot open the zip.
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
Hello,
Are you sure the zip isn't broken? Have you tried installing other rom zips?
Hi thanks for the quick response,
Yes I made sure that zip wasn't broken. I had the same rom on my internal storage and simply moved it to my external via usb OTG
I just downloaded 2 roms. One CAF based and the ther CM11 based. I was able to install CAF (Carbon Rom) just fine but I wasn't able to install CM11(CM11 M4).
Any idea why CM based roms can't install via USB OTG?

Well, how did you make sure it isn't broken? Did you match the md5 and see??
The fact that you're able to flash other roms and not able to flash only the CM zip sounds fishy... You may want to re-download the cm zip and see whether it flashes or not..

I verified the rom wasn't broken by opening the zip file to view the contents. I also did a new download of each rom I attempted to flash.
Here is my order of operations:
1. Format Data and advance wipe everything.
2. Attempt to install CM11 via OTG but failed.
3. Successfully install CAF via OTG
4. Copy CM11 from OTG to internal storage.
5. Successfully install CM11 via internal storage.
Hmmm.. It's really strange... May be someone else with better experience using Multirom might be able to shed some light over this issue...
You could however also ask this in the Multirom thread as you will get replies from people who are using Multirom currently...
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll head that way and see what other users are experiencing.
After you advance wipe and format data you need to reboot back into your recovery. It needs to "reset" since the phone has no OS on it.
Once you rebooted back, go to install and mount your USB otg and flash away.
Hopefully this helps.

This might be the problem...
Make sure that you installed the latest bootloader, I had the same problems a few weeks ago (with CM11) and installing/flashing this file from recovery solved the problem. Hope this helps.

He is able to flash cm11 through his sdcard successfully ... Problem occurs only when flashed via otg.. So i dont think bootloader's to be blamed here...
-Flowed from an IceCold Hammerhead!
Same problem here with TWRP 2.7.1.1. and pa4.4rc1 rom on otg
TWRP seems to have bad usb-otg support. My files on usb flash become broken after using twrp I've formated it and flashed Philz Touch recovery. Philz handle usb-otg better

Can you post what rom you are using right now, as well as what recovery version.
Also, what rom are you trying to flash ? You are rooted, right ?
If you can post some more details - am sure people will chime in
Good luck,

I'm running stock 4.0.4, Rooted, Clockworkmod recovery. I have tried to flash several different roms. Romswell, AOKP, CM nightlies thru ROM manager. all of them fail in recovery. I flash stuff all the time on my SIII so I'm not really a Noob to flashing and what not, but I can't figure this one out. Thanks for any help.
What are you using for recovery? When you say failed what is the error message? Sounds like you should prolly reflash a current official recovery. If by failing you mean it hangs on first boot then your not wiping system before flashing. Factory reset and wipe system before you flash.
Are you by chance running any scripts for sd card swap, etc ?
I am running this script, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1961097 which swaps my 32GB external sd for the internal sd, which runs great - no issues, except with rom manager and flashing from recovery.
I have to go back and de-activate the script, reboot, and then dowload - or transfer file from PC, and it flashes without issue
Otherwise, I have had no flashing issues of any kind - using CWM 6.0.1.5 for the p3113
Good luck,
Bill
I am a "NOOB" and I completely apologize if this has been discussed previously. My daughter has a Galaxy S3 that someone installed TWRP on it. She tried to update the phone because it gave her the status to do so. Somehow she has wiped everything except TWRP and I have no idea what to do in order to get a OS back on the device. Can someone please help and I really need the information explained to me in the simplest terms. Thanks
In twrp, if you click "restore" does it list anything on either internal or external memory? If so, just restore it and don't update.

It doesn't show anything.
Did you try reboot system?
Odin flash VRBMB1. You'll need a access to Windows for this to work. This will return you to out of the box stock rom.
Do what Slimsnoop suggested. Its for the best

lol
It just means the SYSTEM was wiped. Just download a small ROM like CM10.1 and flash it. Reboot.
Have had this happen a lot. For a fast fix You will have to load ROM on the external SD card, then when you flash it check the directory where the ROM is stored on the external SD and flash it. Reboot. No need to flash gapps if you don't plan on keeping that ROM.
If you plan on keeping it just download the ROM you want and flash.

Ok so this just happened to me and I turned to this awesome site for help. I had switched from CWM to TWRP and installed the img file, when it rebooted into recovery it told me there was no OS installed. I flashed the above referenced file with Odin... when it rebooted though, I had everything I thought I had lost. No stock rom, it was still running cm10 with all my apps and themes, everything.
I'm confused. I'm not a total newbie to this kind of stuff, but I'm by far no expert. I'm just curious if TWRP didn't recogonize anything so it assumed there was no OS installed?
Easy way around this. Happens to me all the time
what you are gonna have to do it download a compatible rom from your computer to a micro sd card. Put the micro sd card in your phone. Go into twrp and select the rom and flash from external sd.
Hello everyone, and thanks for accepting me.
I bricked my phone.
I installed a cyanogenmod 4.1.2.
Then i wanted to try marmite 8.7 kernel.
All good. But i flashed the marmite for nexus S 4g.. The phone started, but it was very slow, i couldn't do anything on it.
So i turned it off, cheared cache, formatted system, etc..
And then, the bad news. I hadn't installed on my phone the custom rom, only the kernel.
Now i can enter in recovery, but i don't have any image to install and i don't have any recovery images.
What should i do now? How can i acces the usb storage to put an image on it?
Thanks, any help is appreciated!

I'm using ClockworkMod Recovery v6.0.1.0
I have an option, "mount USB storage"
But when i enter in it i have 2 options: -unmount and -go back
Above that it says:
USB Mass Storage device
Leaving this menu unmount
your SD card from your PC.
I don't understand, my Pc don't see the phone, it never saw it until i selected that usb debugging in settings.
I see that i am kinda "slow"...
Shame on me! I got it now. When i am in that menu, usb storage is opened.
Great news for me, can anyone tell me what should i do now?
Install a new rom, but what should i do about the kernel? Is it necessary to install a new one or the custom rom comes with it's own kernel?
I'm sorry for my stupid questions, but i'm really noob at this and i couldn't find my answers trough the forum

Any rom has a custom kernel, so if you flash a new rom it will have it's own kernel, so it is ok to flash a rom than gapps specific for that roms version (a rom based on android 4.1 has certain gapps and 4.2 another set, and 4.3 a different set of gapps). The good news is that after you flast a new rom if you decide on another kernel you can flash it afterwards exactly how you flashed the rom...just go to recovery and mount usb then copy the kernel flashible zip and you can flash it

Thank you everyone, my phone is working again, with 4.1.2. I will stay on stock cyanogen kernel, until i learn more about kernels.
I have another problem, my wireless module was always weak, i have poor signal on any router, unless i'm 4 meters away from it. Changing roms didn't solve the problem.
A friend suggested that i should flash another radio module, but i didn't see on forums anyone talking about this problem.
3G/HSDPA is ok, so is 2G network signal.
Anyone had this problem with weak wireless antenna? Should it be a hardware problem?

If you want to flash custom kernel again, just go to recovery flash the custom kernel then wipe cache and wipe dalvik then reboot. DONE.
But I think it's not necessary when using CM cause CM's stock kernel is already awesome. ^_^
Have you tried flashing the latest Nightlies? It's faster and more responsive, well at least for me.
was rooted on lollipop, tried to update to 2.2 but i think i installed the wifi version (i am an lte owner) tried to put the aosp rom on since i needed to wipe and start fresh anyways. Now i am on the aosp rom which changed my recovery the recovery that loads doesnt mount the sd card (and doesnt see the internal storage). I figure if i can just get back to another recovery i should be able to get back on track.

Are you rooted? if so, with flashify, flash another custom recovery. I'd recommend TWRP 2.8.5.0. Its here, http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/development/wip-twrp-2-8-0-1-unofficial-t2877117/ and its on the latest posts as zip attachment (you need to extract the zip, because it contains an *.img).
If not, (I have not tried this because I haven't got the need to do it)
you can flash TWRP 2.8.5.0 via fastboot, but you need to unlock the bootloader.
problem is i dont have gapps installed so unable to use flashify. When i try to use adb to install them i get error closed
then waiting for device.
tablet is showing in device manager as google galaxy nexus adb interface
so i believe drivers are installed correctly.

You could do the second solution. But I have never done it, so I cant help you with that, just with what I theoretically know.
Hello guys,
I have a p5113 tablet that i have been having trouble with. I have tried flashing like 5 different roms and they all boot loop. I think its because I am using an old recovery (Device Specific TWRP 3.0.0-0) the problem is only the old recoveries are working for me. When i flash the latest common TWRP (3.0.3-0) Wiping gets stuck at updating partition details, it wont install any roms it stays at "detected filesystem ext4", and if I try to reset the tablet through TWRP menu it wont do anything. When I use the old recoveries it flashes and wipes fine. When i flash stock rom through odin, the system works fine. I have tried different versions of the latest twrp but to no avail. Thank you in advance for your help.
EDIT: I finally have a custom rom working on this tablet, it is Dhollmen stock 4.2.2 with GT-P5110_PhilZ-Touch-Recovery_6.59.2. recovery, device specific TWRP 3.0.0-0 would give me error 7. Im very happy but I would like to get Marshmallow on this tablet if anyone can help with that.
Install the 3.0.3-0 common TWRP, then try to format data (Wipe ->Format Data-> type yes). Reboot recovery once and then perform a wipe of all partitions (Wipe->Advanced Wipe-> select everything). If you get stuck at "updating partition details..." just wait. It could take as long as five minutes some times to get unstuck.
This is the link for the thread of Slim6, the mm rom I recommend by Andi:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-2/galaxy-tab-2-unified/rom-slim6-t3414798/page1
And this is an aosp mm rom also by Andi, try it if above fails
http://builds.unlegacy-android.org/aosp-6.0
Flash both with TWRP 3.0.3-0
If problems continue, post the recovery log (you can find it after reboot at /cache/recovery/ )

have you used the twrp on the http://andi34.github.io/ website? and roms compiled before 3/22/16 dont flash with common twrp when I updated twrp I had downloaded the zip and went into twrp to flash it I havent used a pc at all to install twrp and root . so I just put the zip on my sd card and it updated it did you update twrp with odin?
Thank you for your reply,
Yes I used the recoveries from Android Andi, and yes I have installed recoveries in zip form through recovery and Odin. Unfortunately neither have worked. I did use the latest recoveries when I tried to install the newer roms but it just gets stuck, I can't even make nandroid backups it also gets stuck with the newer recoveries.
Edit:
@ john99ap Sorry i just got home, I tried what you said but it just got stuck at both wipes, I waited 10 mins but a no-go. I found the logs, I couldn't paste them in here because it exceeded character length so I put it in pastebin. I didn't know which log to use so I am giving you the ones that I think are more relevant

I can't find anything in these logs
I need the log in which you try to install the zip file.
Try this:
-Install TWRP 3.0.3-0 (if it's not already there)
-Reboot and delete all recovery logs you can find
-Install the zip without doing anything else before or after so that the log is as clean as possible
-Post any log you find
PS: you could upload logs in your reply by hitting the button with a stapler on the bottom left corner
Thanks for your reply, sorry about the old logs, here are the new ones like you requested. Hopefully you find something in these new ones. Thanks again for all your help BTW I don't have any staples in my advanced reply so I had to use Pastebin again sorry. I think its because of my low post count.
pastebin/UcntGLTZ
pastebin/Fq8V7WUf
PS: Not even the reboot button works on 3.0.3-0.
Sorry but I can't find anything in these logs either. Maybe it's my fault since I 'm not an expert
At your first post you said device specific twrp gives you error 7. This is caused by a safety check in which your recovery checks if your device is compatible with the rom. In your case, it must be a mistake of the recovery (I had the same issue with my p3110 device specific twrp). So you could just remove the safety check.
Here's how to do it:
- Go to the zip you want to install and find the file /META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
-Edit it with a text editor and remove the first line (it begins with asserts and ends at the first semicolon)
-Install the zip
Good luck!

Awe thanks anyways dude, I really appreciate you trying. One last thing, on Andi's website he say that device specific 3.0.0-0 recovery should work to flash the latest roms. If anyone can confirm this maybe I can get the new roms working on it. Thanks again for all your help john99ap :good:
