Hello aa all, and to the rescue!
I have a HTC One Mini (bought used) which revolved in Android 4.4.2...
By restarting, I touch Volume - and passed it in Bootloader
and impossible to get out!
I have tried Factory reset (in red) and Recovery (in green) but nothing.
The menu displays the following information:
* UNLICKED *.
M4 UL PVT Ship S-OFF RL
CID 1111111
Hboot 2-19 0000
OS 1.33.73.1
sept 03, 2013
Then the navigation FASTBOOT commands... etc...
Can you tell me how to deliver an original HTC 4.2.2 ROM or a stable (MagioR3?) custom Rom... and in french!
I flashed an Htc Diamond under WM 6.5...
I downloaded "Magio_Rom_R3.zip" this will be my 1st Android flash!
I installed HTC Drivers (M4) and ADB/FASTBOOT then TWRP2.6.3.0.img renamed to "recovery.img"
When I type "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" =.
"FAILED (remote: image update error)"
Same message if I type "fastboot flash boot boot.img"
Can you help me?
Excuse the English, the translator...
Many thanks in advance.
You need to be in fastboot mode when you are in the boot loader menu, it must be the one with the red background.
Then type fastboot devices in commandline ( cmd window ) the response should be like a identity number from your device.
If there is no device found your windows drivers are not installed correctly. If your device is found, the fastboot flash..... Command should work.

In your posted details there is the cid 1111111 ( seven times a 1) that's not correct! There need to be 8 times the 1 ....maybe there is the mistake you need to get rid off!

Thanks for your reply.
For the CID is 11 11 11 11 (8 digits)
"fastboot devices" = n ° of the M4 = Ok
"fastboot recovery recovery.img" (TWRP 2.6.3.0 ° =
FAILED ("remote: image update error")
I am desperate...
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img and this file must be in same folder where fastboot.exe is located. Hope it works

Ok, you will need 2 things in order to put a Rom back on. An OTG cable and a usb drive. I have pictures of them but it won't let me upload

To anyone having issues getting a Rom back on the mini I was able to fix this issue. My bootloader was unlocked, but still s-on and not rooted. A failed update was my issue..which I should have known better.
So I downloaded adb,, fastboot files and placed them all in a folder directly on my hard drive. I was able to flash a recovery using fastboot commands and once I had twrp recovery I wiped data and all, just to be safe. Then I used an OTG cable and connected it to my usb drive, in which I had a Rom zip on, and was able to flash it with no problem. I wiped cache and dalvik, and restarted back in bootloader and used fatboot once again and flashed the boot.img from the Rom I just flashed. Rebooted and it had a Rom again. That is the process I used after I tried all the other steps everyone had and nothing worked.

Try command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img". And make sure that the recovery file is not double named "img." Windows will automatically know it's an image file so just name it recovery.

no access to recovery
I've got the same sort of problem. The unit is fine until I try to go into recovery. It refuses to go there.
The problem started when I flashed CWMRecovery. Fastboot and adb recognise my phone, and accept commands, but when I try to flash recovery it sends an error message.
I get fastboot and bootloader menus fine.
I tried " fastboot boot recovery.img" but that just froze the machine .
When I try to get into recovery from rom manager or ROM toolbox pro, it takes me to the fastboot menu, not into recovery, and we're back to square one.
Running android 4.3 Sense 5.5 software 2.12.401.1 Supercid 11111111
rooted and unlocked
To get the phone to work again, I have to hold power down for about 10 secs direct from fastboot/bootloader. If i turn power off from bootloader, it returns to bootloader when I power up again.
Ho hum.
As I say , it works like a dream until I want to go into recovery.
Any ideas, please?
Thanks

I am trying to install twrp recovery to install CleanROM but it is failing. I have unlocked my bootloader via htc dev but the following fails:
c:\Android>fastboot flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.2.2.0-evita.img
sending 'recovery' (7428 KB)...
FAILED (data transfer failure (Unknown error))
finished. total time: 0.011s
I am also doing this knowing I have the option of installing the script on Goo Manager but that only downloads, I get a toast saying successfully installed and cannot confirm if it has been installed as the device did not automatically restart and flash.
Please advise... Thanks.
If your running windows, just make sure all you files are in the same folder ie twrp, adb, fast boot then press shift + right click, open command prompt here. I've heard of have you virus protection on? can cause problems.

Yes, adb.exe - fastboot.exe - AdbWinApi.dll and the twrp recovery image are all in the same folder.
My only other suggestions would be to make sure you have administrative permission s on you PC. I can't imagine why its doing that to you unless you downloaded a corrupt boot image. I've had that happen a few times.

Is there anyway configurations prior to running Goo Manager? I have an unlocked bootloader, not sure what else is missing for it to not restart on it's own after downloading and 'installing'. Did the same thing happen for you?
Also note my phone is not rooted (stuck on Rogers' 1.94.x.x firmware after the OTA) -- could this be a problem? If so, how do I root my device otherwise..?

Which tool are you referring to? I cannot find it. Any one click tool I see does not work for 1.94.x.x firmware...
I was on 1.94 too.
Just try goomanager again, download twrp, then in goomanager go to options and install open recovery.
Might want to make sure fastboot is off in options too before tryin to boot into recovery.
If that don't work its beyond me sorry.

Yeah, I found it a few minutes ago as well. I gave up though, I cannot flash through fastboot and goo manager won't work. Guess this phone is not getting any custom roms.
your bootloader is unlocked though?
Yes, via htcdev (it also has the ***unlocked*** status in recovery).
Here's your full proof method.......
Boot up phone all the way, enable USB debugging
Download-
http://db.tt/sXmdepmX
Stick it on root of your internal sdcard.
Open up your command prompt and cd to your adb/fastboot directory.....type-
adb shell
su
dd if=/sdcard/twerp.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22
Once it's done, do it again for good measure...
press up arrow, it rewrites last command, and press enter.
When done type
exit
exit
adb reboot recovery
There u go.......twrp recovery installed:beer:

What does of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22 mean? This is going to work for the evita One XL right? I do this while my phone is booted up normally?
Trying this, I cannot get past the 'su' command and get: /system/bin/sh: su: not found
Well that's why goo isn't working either......goomanager and this both require root.

Right, so that is why I am stuck in this dilemma. I am on 1.94.x.x firmware with the latest Rogers OTA and have no one click method to root and flashing twrp is failing.
I am on Windows 7 and have 2 USB 3.0 ports but currently not hooking up device to those ports.
With bootloader unlocked you should be able to flash a recovery. I see the error your getting when flashing twrp from bootloader and it looks like a communication error of some sort. It's not the phone blocking it......try all your USB ports when in bootloader, make sure your phone says fastboot USB also....if nothing else try a different pc, because it's not the phone, it's def. A pc issue I'd say

Here's your problem....not rooted, goo won't work.....your missing files in your adb/fastboot folder
Download this-
http://db.tt/5ePa4XV5
Unzip and place files in your adb folder, overwrite the ones that are in there or delete them first, but leave your twrp.img and your unlock_code.bin
Boot phone all the way
Open cmd prompt and cd to your adb folder
Type
adb reboot bootloader
Once in bootloader
fastboot flash recovery nameofrecovery.img
Now do it a second time for good measure
On phone screen, select bootloader, then recovery.....done:beer:

This should be fixable by ruuing heres a link on the basic directions

Grab version 2.3.3.0. It works just fine for me. Also when you get into recovery you need to flash the ROM and then flash the boot image.
Also if you can, open up fast boot and type "fastboot OEM getvars" and paste the results. It could be getvar if the previous does not work.

First of all you should have done more research before flashing stuff on your phone. Youre lucky your phone is still alive after flashing that international rom buddy.
Second the command fastboot oem getvar is incomplete. THats why you are getting the error. Getvar must be followed by something like fastboot oem getvar cid.
So one more time.
First make sure you have plenty of battery
1 Boot into hboot.
2Select fastboot and press the power button.
3 Open fastboot in command prompt and and type "fastboot devices"
4 If it shows a serial number it is recognizing your phone. If not try different cables and ports
5 IF recognized type "fastboot flash recovery ( navigate back to your fastboot folder and drag the recovery.img into the command window. The recovery.img MUST be in the same folder as the fastboot program!!)"
6 Press enter.
7 Type "fastboot erase cache"
8 Type "fastboot reboot recovery"
If this doesn't work you have another problem. I would suggest running a ruu if your're not super cid. To check super cid boot back into fastboot mode and type "fastboot oem getvar cid" If it shows "11111111" you have super cid and cant run a ruu. If not you can run a ruu.
If the steps above did work and your're now in recovery. Then.
1 Wipe everything. Cache/dalvik cache/system/android secure/ and sdcard.
2 Mount sdcard and transfer your rom to your sd card. MAKE SURE THE ROM IS FOR THE DUAL CORE ONE XL EVITA model. For now just stick with a sense rom. If you want a suggestion I suggest you use this one for now. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2181891
3 Once transfered. Safetly unmount sdcard and flash the rom.
4 Select reboot bootloader in recovery.
5 Once in hboot select bootloader.
6 Open the rom you just flashed and copy the boot.img that is in the root of the zip to the folder where you have fastboot.
7 Type "fastboot devices" to see if the pc recognizes the phone.
8 If you see a serial number the pc recognizes your phone.
9 Type "fastboot flash boot (go back to explorer and drag the boot.img from the fastboot folder to the command window."
10 Hit enter
11 Press the vol down button and navigate to power off.
12 Hit the power button.
13 Once phone is completely off press and hold the power button till the phone comes on.
14 If it still boot loops a ruu is your only option.

Installed HTC Sync, RUU up and running. Thanks guys. Sorry for so noob. nearly trolling.
Hi, if anyone can help me solve this, I will be eternally grateful.
So I was following the CyanogenMod guide for installing the ROM on my HTC One S, but I foolishly flashed the ROM as a .zip, instead of the boot.img.
I can access the bootloader screen, and also the TeamWin recovery screen, but I cannot seem to use flashboot.
It always comes up as <waiting on device>.
I am lost, because I obviously used flashboot to flash the recovery and the ROM across to my phone, and all the files are still in the same folder.
Basically, I cannot start my phone, other than into the recovery screen or the bootloader screen. I cannot seem to flash anything across either.
If anyone can solve this issue from this poor explanation I will be more than impressed.
Many thanks.

It is waiting for device because the phone isn't in bootloader (fastboot USB) connected to pc...most likely.
So with phone in bootloader and it reads fastboot USB
from your fastboot folder press shift and right click to open command window.
fastboot flash boot boot.img
(this assumes you have put the boot.img in the fastboot folder)
Then go to recovery
install rom.zip
wipe the caches
If you don't have the rom.zip on your phone then mount usb storage in twrp and move the rom.zip from your pc to your phone.
Hopefully your Hboot is 2.15 or you will just bootloop.

So can I clarify that I need to flash both the boot.img file and the rom.zip separately. Then install the rom.zip, not the boot.img?
Because I install the rom.zip last time without the boot.img being flash, and thats when it messed up.
Basically, am I installing the .zip or the .img?
Thanks a million.

.img , you need to extract boot.img from ROM zip and than just "fastboot flash boot boot.img" ,no quotes in command -that is for boot.img and you do flash ROM as a zip

I wiped it all via the TWRP recovery.
Any chance you could walk me through RUU? Or at least point me in the right direction.
It does sound like it would be easiest just to start all over again. What's the best way to do this?
Thank you for your help.

Any ideas?
If not, could someone please run me through just wiping everything and starting again?

Not sure if this makes a difference, but when connected to my PC, my phone is called "My HTC".
I remember reading somewhere that it should be called an Android ADB Device or something similar?
Hi there!
I just had a go at flashing my new HTC One M8, and I'm stuck in recovery mode.
I followed these instructions:
androidcentral.us/2014/04/root-att-htc-one-m8/
But got the TWRP file from here because the original link was overloaded:
androidfiles.org/?developer=M8&folder=Recoveries
I essentially just ran:
Code:
fastboot-mac erase
cachefastboot-mac
flash boot recovery.img
fastboot-mac reboot
Then installed the SuperSU update zip. Now every time I try reboot into the Android system, it boots into recovery mode. If I boot into the bootloader, I get the option to boot using fastboot but that appears to fail (it returns me to the bootloader after a second). If I select hboot, it says "No image or wrong image!" after trying to load a .nbh file.
Any ideas?
BTW, I got the unlocked version from Amazon: amazon.com/HTC-One-M8-Unlocked-Warranty/dp/B00J3554KE/

you flashed recovery to kernel partition! The guide is wrong as i read.
To flash recovery:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
BUT you will also need to flash the kernel again as you just messed it up!
Ouch! Ok, that sucks that steps I was following were wrong. :/ But at least I feel less like an idiot.
So I found a boot.img from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51580259 and flashed that. Now I'm not returning to the recovery screen, but to the bootloader always and it gives the same message about wrong image.
Here are the commands I ran:
Code:
./fastboot-mac erase cache
./fastboot-mac flash boot boot.img
./fastboot-mac flash recovery Recovery.img
./fastboot-mac reboot

can you stil enter fastboot mode?
Is fastboot mode the one where you see "FASTBOOT USB" in red on top? Cause I can get into that and connect to my phone from my laptop.

Thats good. I'll help you get back working phone.
BUT i need some info:
Please tell me what bootloader is about:
HBoot and so on. Also i need to know if its an "UNLOCKED" phone sold by a carrier. Or a carrier free phone. Because you will need fittig software for each model.
The info on top of the bootloader screen?
Code:
M8_UL_CA PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-3.16.0.0000
RADIO-1.15.2133156.UA03_2G
OpenDSP-v26.2.2-00538-M8974.0106
OS-1.12.1540.17
eMMC-boot 2048MB
Mar 3 2014,20:18:02.0
It's an unlocked (carrier free) phone sold by Amazon: amazon.com/HTC-One-M8-Unlocked-Warranty/dp/B00J3554KE/
Okay. Will get the right files.

The kernel you flashed is for "SPRINT" m8 and NOT COMPATIBLE to your device. Just don't flash any files as long as you don't know if theyre matching your phone please.
Did you flash the TWRP 2703 version?
Yes, 2.7.0.3.
Thanks so much for all your help so far! I hugely appreciate how quickly you're jumping on helping me.

Just that you know, that is YOUR phone:
x.xx.1540.x - HTC One U.S. Developer Edition
I'm looking for a stock rom, if that is not possible you will have to use a custom rom

Have you installed adb on your laptop? BTW are you using a apple mac?
Download this rom please --> LINK
The rom includes stock kerne. Just download it and we'll try to flash just the included kernel file as it should get your device back working.
Otherwise you'll have to flash full rom via twrp.
Please tell me when your download is ready. And this time do yourself a favor and DON'T act on your own as long as you don't know what you're doing...
Oh my, thanks so much that worked!! You're awesome! I honestly had a feeling I'd lost my phone.
Glad you got it back alive

Since u r s-off try flashing recovery.img via fastboot. In desire s general ul see a guide by me for 4ext recovery, extract the zip file and put the recovery.img in ur fastboot folder on pc, put phone into fastboot mode, connect to pc and open fastboot command window and type
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Then try boot into recovery, hopefully u can then u can try flashing a rom.
Or the only other option is try flashing a ruu.exe file from pc. Hopefully it will finish
