[Q] Have things improved on the battery life front? - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, with 4.4.3. have you noticed any improved in the celluar calls power consumption on the N5
I'm considering both the N5 and G2 and was almost sold on the N5 (their price is the same where I live, the N5 is even a bit more expensive)
Then I read this review
http://www.anandtech.com/show/7517/google-nexus-5-review/3
I think it's the most accurate and unbiased review I have read in a while and the results were looking pretty good when I read about the quite bad call performance - it's pretty much the same as on the iphone 5 and I'm having a hard time with it's battery life right now.
I previously had a galaxy S3 LTE and it was so-so, but overall lasted me through the day most of the time. How would you comapre it to the N5?
Really battery life is the only thing that makes me think twice - I really like the N5 more than the G2 in terms of design.

4.4.3 is not out yet. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2477886
Not sure how you missed that being a senior member.

ha
im happy with my battery, i get about 5-5.5 hours screen on time per cycle.

SOT is quite relative. My iphone could probably go for 10 hours if I only use wifi. Once I go 3G and have 1-2 hours of voice calls it's dead. My wife's razr I is the opposite - not so good SOT but very respectable 3G / voice performance. I really wish they made an Iphone with motorola radio, bigger screen and dual booting android and JB'ed IOS haha. Pack a cyclone cpu and big battery and noone will buy another phone for the next 5 years or like... Ever.

Batterylife is also very dependent on the quality of 3/4G reception (radio/modem), maybe you could flash a different modem to improve call time/batterylife.

Make the necessary sacrifices , and anyone can have stellar battery times.
Usage plays a huge part too, as does setup. Really unfair to compare when we all do different things with our phones.
Here's mine. Not the average times at the bottom.

So being on an iPhone for two weeks makes you put question threads in the general forum instead of the question forum? What?

Nope. I was just distracted by the new stuff and didn't pay attention that much. Nvm getting a g2 today. Seems like n5 battery is on par with most other smartphones on the market and probably not as bad as gsmarena said.

For battery life you're really going to enjoy the G2. The extra 700mah is really nice and the double tap feature is excellent. Enjoy!

Yeeesssss, loft in its beauty. Feel it in your pocket.MMMMMMMMM. So good.
I bought mine on launch, and I still love. My only regret the is potential loss of tmobile, but the FCC seems to be leaning against that.
I really like it a lot. I think it's still the phone I'd choose today if I was in the market again; I've really appreciated the stock experience, especially post-2.3.3 patch, which fixed pretty much all my gripes with it.
I love it, but the only thing that I can think of to change is making the speaker audible when laid on it's back. I had a few missed calls because of this.
I love it. Started off a little bit slow, but things are starting to catch up... slowly.
I never get sick of the phone's looks. And getting the Case-Mate Pop Case made me even love it more.
Edit: Slow as in development.
I love it to death. The only way I would think of giving it up is if the deal goes through. Having a 3g phone with no 3g is lame.

Same with this guy.
my brother has one. ihave iphone 4. last week i bought one. used but almost brand new. not a single cratch with no visible gtid pattern on the matrix pentile screen. it was stunning.
i figured what the hell, i will try it for few days. if i like it, i will keep it and sell my iphone 4. if not i will return it to the store " store owner is my close friend "
so i played with it. i think its awesome. but i gave it to my brother since it was in better shape than my brothers and he sold his phone.
i use skype video calls almost daily. and i play alot of games. i figured i can live without the skype but it was a no go.
its funny how a small things can screw up big things.
all in all i think its one of the best phones in the market. and i recommend this phone over any andriod phone available right now.
unless optimus 2x will have a cracked bootloader, then i dont think any phone coming soon will top the nexus .
right now i am waiting for the xperia play. for the same reason, i play games alo :/
Interesting responses. I for one, do love mine. I don't think I could ask for more except 3g.

Then you'll complain about Samsung's delay on Android X.X. Just stay on the Nexus line and wait for the 3rd Nexus Phone.
Got mine as soon as Bestbuy opened on launch day, rooted it later that day as soon as Koush posted directions. Still love the phone and wouldn't trade it for any other phone available now or that has been announced/rumored.

Samsung Galaxy SIII S3 & Nexus Prime rumours and specs

Rumours about Galaxy SIII are popping out. If SIII will have all the specs in this article, it's gonna be a blast. Guess we shouldn't worry about our SII getting old yet, cause it will probably take at least one year for SIII to be launched. Here's the article:
http://androidandme.com/2011/09/news/anonymous-4chan-user-lets-not-forget-the-samsung-galaxy-s-iii/
All I can say is WOW!!! That thing will be such a BEAST!!! I cannot WAIT till 2012 now!!! I will have to get the Galaxy NOTE to accompany my SII for now and when the SIII arrives I will definitely snatch it up!!!

Hopefully by next year we'll get to see at least something that really makes use of dual-core. We're speaking about "OMG quad-core I NEED it" but still decent single cores run mostly any current app/game properly...
Got an SGS2 and still running the same stuff I used to run in my SGS1...hopefully I won't be running the same old stuff on a quad, penta or hexa core.

I hope one good outcome of all these Apple lawsuits is that Samsung could finally stop designing phones that closely resemble iPhones (Internaional versions of GS1 and GS2 with the big HOME button in the middle) or iPad (GTab 10.1). Making some truely unique looking phones, Samsung.

2.0 ghz quadcore? wow! it'll eat the batt again!
again, batt life will be a major problem, even with the alleged 2250 mah batt
I just heard a rumor that Galaxy S4 will have 4.95 in HD screen with 1680x1050 resolution, Tegra 4 with 8 cores and laser pen with refillable ink that can be used to write on paper or as a stylus on the phone. It also comes with an extended battery that can fit into your other pocket and charges wirelessly to SGS4.

I beg to differ: the majority of the time the phone will be in deep sleep or at minimal (200? Mhz) with minimal voltage.
And according to those rumours, it gonna be 28nm fabrication process (that means lower power consumption).

SGS2 is already enought powerful
All I want to see from the next galaxy s phone is the strength to take a fall without doing any considerable damage, something that is different in design to other phones and to have excellent battery life thanks to efficient power management and frequent updates in the Android OS.

no such thing as "enought powerful"
anyways, the source is 4chan. hardly the most reliable.
The only thing I am interested in are the UMTS band frequencies supported by next devices. I am tired of seeing tri- or quad-band android phones that are not necessarily compatible with every major countries. This means that you have then to wait for a specific version for your country, you are oftentimes stuck with carrier-specific phones, etc.).
And I am not talking about compatibility with new networks (LTE, 4G europe, etc.)...
Take the current generation of phones specs double them, release as rumor about new phone, repeat

LG Optimus LTE

The LG Optimus LTE has just been released by Bell and it looks like a nice and capable phone. I am wondering what experiences people have with LG.
The Galaxy Nexus was my first choice and I might switch to it after a few things have been fixed/added.
So, is there anything that should make me think twice about getting the LG?
Thanks
Look at their flagship phone the 3D... then look at which version of android it runs
I played a bit with the Optimus LTE two weeks ago.. The screen blew my mind..but LG`s UI is still...disgusting.. lol
However, there's plenty of other launchers available
Way to bash LG. This time an update to ICS is even used as a selling point for the phone. How are they ever supposed to improve if their track record turns everyone off?
This time they produced the best Android phone that has ever been. Even if it were to never get ICS, I would still choose it because it is possessed of superior hardware.

I bought it today and have been playing around for a bit. Made so many video calls...Loudspeaker quality is fine, actual phone sound while calling is dubious. Just so you know, I typed this on the LG Optimus LTE. Now I am playing around with the voice feature. It works fairly well. I said "fairly well", it corrected to "very well". Haha. Any way to turn off auto-correct?

Review and walkthrough is now online:
Thanks! Will watch your review in the morning. Will spend the night being torn. The sound quality really could be better...and louder...I am comparing to a BlackBerry. On the other hand, this phone has a certain speed advantage over...About all phones.
My greatest concern about getting this phone is the lack of attention and thus the lack of developer support. It doesn't even have a dedicate XDA forum yet!
The phone will get ICS within the next couple of months, what other attention do you need? Perhaps it is better to blame XDA Developers for the lack of a dedicated forum.
My greatest concern, having had it for 2 days, is the call volume. Annoyingly low.
Another concern: battery life. COME ON! To be honest, I have not discharged and charge the battery fully a few times, so it is not my place to say anything. I will have to see when I do that.

I'd like to see one as when I've seen the Galaxy Note out in public it just looks absolutely ridiculous in size... lol

I want to wait and see what Google do with their Nexus range, I've heard that there are going to be a few different models to cater for the different type of users and they might be released by different manufacturers even.

I don't know which color I like better. The red w/black accents and the black w/red accents both look sick! I hope it's not just a Verizon exclusive when it comes to the states. How much you wanna bet the carriers will be charging $399 WITH a two year contract. "Oh it's 1080p so that's gonna cost an extra $100." Or they'll price it at $900 for off contract. That's one reason why I didn't want a 1080p phone to come out now. Carriers are gonna think it justifies a HUGE price increase.
You guys are all thinking about going to the Optimus G? Seems a lot of people are into the Optimus G. But LG? I don't know if I could buy an LG phone. The S4 Pro should be coming to other manufacturers phones also.
Another phone I have to work hard on getting. Each time I get a new phone there's a newer and better one coming out. I get the HTC inspire 4g and I see the one x. I get the one x and I see this x.x. oh well, happens everytime. The phone looks really nice and specs are great. Also jellybean!

[Q] Is your Nexus 5 still fresh?

By fresh, I mean would you still buy it today or would you look for something more current?
My Verizon contract is up in about a month and I'm hankering to replace my Droid RAZR MAXX ASP. It no longer feels fresh. It's running an older Jelly Bean (4.1.2) and is quite the dog. Web pages load so slowly that the screen frequently turns off before the page displays. Moto/Verizon have decided not to upgrade it further though I suspect it might benefit from performance improvements in more recent versions. :-/
My usage is low, consisting of a less than 200MB data, about 100 minutes of voice and a handful of texts typical per month. (Data will go up the month we're on vacation when I'm away from normal WiFi hot spots.) Verizon has nothing for me (New contract would involve more money for less service. However the service levels are moot if I'm not even coming close to my limits.)
For reasons of performance and availability of upgrades I want to go with a Google Experience phone. Because of my usage patterns, I'm leaning toward a month by month provider such as Ting. (They resell Sprint voice/data and voice roams to Verizon at no additional charge.) The choice today is the Nexus 5. It' been out since November of last year and the next (and perhaps last) Nexus seems likely to be released November of this year. The Nexus 5 seems like it has decent specs with 2GB RAM and a quad core processor. (But I thought the same of the Droid RAZR with 1GB RAM and dual core processor.) I'm curious what folks who own and use the Nexus 5 think about its future longevity.
Another option I have is to buy a used phone to bridge the time between Verizon cutoff and availability of the Nexus 6. I could also sell the Nexus 5 when the Nexus 6 becomes available, I suppose.
The Nexus 5 is still a perfect good phone. The GPE Galaxy S5 might arguably be "fresher," but for the money, the Nexus 5 is hard to beat.
Of course, you could stick with Verizon on month-to-month until the Nexus 6 (or whatever they call it) comes out, but if you're looking to jump today, the Nexus 5 is still a great device.

Thanks for the tip on the GPe S5. It seems to be rumored but not yet announced. The GPe S4 is $650 =8-O I'm not convinced it is that much better than the Nexus 5. Ting does list the regular S5 for $597 but that includes Samsung's bloatware (some of which I'm sure I'd find useful) and updates at their discretion.
I might ask Verizon one more time about month by month options at contract expiration. I could also use my Droid X on BYO for the time being. Maybe I could find a Verizon MVNO who could use my RAZR MAXX.
For the price, nothing beats the nexus 5.
Unless you just run stock and gravity box say....then maybe the Moto x. Tho, you need one that the boot loader can be unlocked. On Verizon, that's the Dev edition.
Comparing to phones twice the price is apples to oranges. Tho the N5 does still stand up to those phones too.
Nexus5 is worth every flash and more...
Nexus ftw!!!

That looks like a great phone, but it's not available to me. Sprint does not allow Ting to use new phones so it might be available about a year following release. Second, I really wanted to try a Google Experience phone this time (vs. one with carrier additions and lock in.) There is the possibility that this will be the basis for the next Nexus and if so, I might regret not having waited.
I've had my Nexus 5 for about a week now, so the question is moot. I suppose I could sell it and get the next Nexus when it comes out but I'm sure the N5 will drop in value at that point.
At the moment I'm half way between phones. My Droid RAZR MAXX is days away from being off contract. Battery life is still good but it is still dog slow. The N5 is amazingly fast, highlighting the difference. And I should get the next version of Kit Kat any minute now.
