No you will not lose root but data is lost. unless you only reset settings which will delete the settings and changes but not data.

So I need to wipe one of my Xoom's (selling off the wifi only to a buddy), but I'd like to keep Root/Tiamat/CWM intact.
Can I just do a factory reset via CWM (just want to make sure that's safe on the Xoom), or should I return it to stock and reflash etc...
Thanks for the info
edit: yep...that worked...
I have a droid maxx running stock rooted 4.4, and need to factory reset it or something similar, to totally reset everything. Does anyone know of a way to do this while keeping root? Thanks!
I've factory reset my rooted 4.4 Mini using Settings->Backup & reset. Reinstalled SuperSu after, still rooted.

Thank you so so much!!! You just saved me countless hours of extreme frustration and possibly even buying a new phone..
Hope it fixes your issue. Not as good as reflashing the system, but that will definitely make you lose root.

Sorry to say if it is an issue with the system factory reset does nothing except delete user data like apps etc. If its a system app it may fix the problem other than that it wont do jack to fix the problem. Thats why root persists only reason to FDR is if an app is acting up and you can't fix it. That is why we need the fxz to fix a system issue.

That sucks cause last night night xposed framework threw me in loop. I had to fxz 4.4.2 from my rooted, write protect off state. Now I lost root. Any way to get it back? If not damn, I'm in pain from a mistake.

Hello, I'm a total noob wanting to get rid of all the ATT/Google crapware. My HOX is total stock, never unlocked, rooted etc.. I did the latest update to 4.2.2. If I do a reset, what does it reset to? Can it be unlocked , rooted after a reset?
Thanks!

A factory reset will wipe all user data, apps and app data. It will not restore your phone to an older firmware that is rootable.
4.2.2 is not rootable at this time.

SO... would it at least get rid of the apps I don't want/can't remove now?
You can't remove system apps without root. As previously stated, a factory reset only removes user data and user apps.

OK, I thank you both! I guess I'll wait till the next phone to root.
"Facory reset" is really a misnomer and misleading. All it does is wipe the /data partition (user data). It doesn't affect the actual OS. So the ability to root (or not, in your case), bootloader unlock, etc. is not affected either.
Sorry for the noob question. I have rooted Moto G. I want to sell it now, but before Sell I want to factory data reset my phone. it wont be unrooted after you factory reset, the app will be still there in system/app , you need to select full unroot from the app and then factory reset
hi guys,
I have a rooted my HG955 5.1.1 and want to update it to 6.0 when it comes out because the batterie is draining very fast and it is getting really hot.
Is it possible to do a factory reset and unroot it without a clean img, I didn't backup it before rooting.
I did some researches about it, but the answer wasn't clear for me so I wanted to ask here to be sure!
Thanks :good:
Don't worry there will be no update to 6.0
