[Q] i can't install any firmware on my htc one x - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi everyone.
i bought a second hand htc one x a month ago and it was working good on jb rom
but the bootloader was already unlocked with s-on
so i thought i could see how the custom rom looks like so i downloaded a lot of Roms and trying to install them but unfortunately none of them worked not just that it's crash and go back to recovery.img witch i also flash a lot until one of them works so after i tried a lot of custom roms like "Android_Revolution_HD-one_x_33" , "HTC_one_x_-_MaximusHD_21.0" , "OTA_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_50_S_HTC_E" , "ViperX_4.0.7".
and i also tried to install the official one which is RUU... doesn't works then in some posts says that i should re-locked the bootloader in order to install the official Rom and i did it
and it also doesn't work
and now i stuck i don't even have a recovery to boot on just the bootloader
i give up and took it the htc servise center and called me after tow days and says they can't fix it
please mates i don't wanna throw my phone
any help will be so appreciate
thanks

You are flashing roms for the hox on the hox xl.....you do not have a hox international, but the dual-core HTC ONE XL. So take it to the correct forum and download recoveries and roms from there !!!
Unlock the bootloader, flash the custom recovery (ment for the HTC one xl) flash the boot.img from the rom, make a full wipe and install the new HTC ONE XL rom

Did you follow the correct procedure to flash a rom ?
1.Flash kernel with boot.img which is available in zip file.
2.Boot into recovery and wipe cache , dalvik cache , system.
3.Flash rom and the gapps.
i guess u have missed the 1st step.
Now all u have to do is unlock the bootloader again , flash appropriate recovery and follow the first three steps again. It doesn't matter if its a custom rom. But be sure to download the appropriate one. Don worry ur fone is not all over. Wait for some expert's opinion. Stay cool.

Why do people repeat the already given answers ? the correct procedure is to download the device specific correct roms !!!

You're giving incorrect advice. You failed to notice that the user is flashing Endeavoru ROMs to an Evita phone.

All you need to do is unlock your bootloader again, flash an Evita recovery, and flash an Evita ROM. Your main problem is probably that you've been wandering into the wrong device forum. You have the HTC One XL (Evita), not the HTC One X (Endeavoru). Our device main page is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1538
Bookmark that page and make sure you stay within it. Don't ever download anything for your phone unless you find out linked within our forum.

Flashing the wrong ROM can definitely brick a device. Some ROMs have checks in the updater script to make sure they're being installed on the right device, some ROMs don't have checks and just brick the device.

first of all thank you guys for your help and sorry for my late reply but in order of 50 kb download what can i do
anyway i tried what you guys told me but unfortunately it didn't work
i re-unlock the device and i downloaded "RegeXL-evita-v2.1" and "UrDroid_Sense_5_JB_4.2.2_Odexed_5" it didn't work so i tried to flash a kernel
"JB_KERNEL_5.08.111.2_Init.d_Support_EVITA_Installer" same problem i don't know why what's wrong with it ?!!
when i was trying to install the ROMs it's says "Skipping MD5 check : no MD5 file found"
and there is another thing but somehow i don't feel it's has nothing to do with my issue: When i start the device under HTC logo with red font "This build is for development purpose......etc." i'm sure you know it guys
any other help i'll be appreciate it

Have you flashed the Kernel (boot.img) from ROM ZIP file in bootloader using following command after flashing the ROM?.
fastboot flash boot boot.img

When you flashed RageXL did you remember to flag the boot.img via fastboot after flashing the ROM? You're s-on so you need to do that whenever you flash a ROM. Refer to my How-To Guide For Beginners thread in my signature for details.
Also, which version of TWRP 2.6.3.0 are you using? Official or unofficial?
Sent from my Evita

problem solved
Guys thank you for all you've done
the device is now working properly and everything is ok
i really send my regards to xda members
and thank you ms.sathish804 to be honest that was my mistake i was doing wrong command witch is "fastboot flash recovery boot.img"
actually i felt like an idiot for me doing that
but it works after i flashed a Kernel named "JB_KERNEL_5.08.111.2_Init.d_Support_EVITA_Installer"
ms.timmaaa i don't know if TWRP is Official or unofficial but i flashed this one openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.0-evita
thank you guys again

Good news. You've got the official recovery installed, which is fine for the ROM you flashed (obviously). If you device you want to flash a KitKat ROM you'll need to flash the unofficial version. I'd still recommend you check out the threads in my signature, they're a staple for anyone starting out with modifying phones.

[Q] Htc one s telus RUU?

I made the mistake of running a cm10 rom on my htc one s that didnt work on i so now i can only access TWRP and my phones bootloader from my One S so I'm trying to find my phone's stock RUU but there are so many out there! Can anyone tell me how to find one? Or another way to get into my phone using another ROM? My phone is rooted with Twrp recovery, Unlocked bootloader obviously and S-on. All my phone does is show the htc bootscreen and then go black but I can still enter bootloader and the TWRP menu and I can connect it to my computer fine. Any help would be VERY greatly appreciated!

Don't give up. I had the same issue with my telus One S. I think I fixed it by falshing boot image separately and after flashing CM10. I believe this happens if the phone is rooted but is in S-ON mode, whatever that means. I remember it really gave me a hard time and as I was going to give up i flashed the boot image and it worked. You have to do it through a command window on your PC. There should be an all-in-one tool in this forum somewhere to simplify the steps a bit. Good luck!
Thanks!

It is in the zip file that you download to flash, i.e. your new ROM. So when you download CM10, open the zip file. BOOT.IMG will be there. Extract it and flash it to your phone. I believe everything was in One_S_All-In-One_Kit_v3.4. Look it up in the forum and it has all the tools you need. I admit that it was a pain and nothing was straight forward. I always root my android devices and install new ROMs. But HTC One S was particularly tricky.
Good luck!
Hello there! Fellow HTC One S user here! Don't give up on CM10! It's way better than stock on your one S! What you need to remember is that HBoot versions higher than 1.09 can't flash the boot while installing the rom, so you need to do that after flashing a rom! The boot for your version is going to be included in the rom's zip file. Look for the boot.img file located in the zip file's root. Every rom should have this. Place this boot.img file in the kernel folder of the One S all in one kit and flash it. You should be good to after that!
Don't hesitate to ask for more help if needed!

When I try to flash a ROM through fastboot it sends it fine but then it says: FAILED (remote: not allowed), and I tried pushing the ROM with adb but when I tried to put it on the sdcard, it said permission denied, do you know why? I am S-ON, would that be a problem? Thanks!

[Q] how to flash - really in trouble

Hi all,
Apology if this questions may already been ask millions of time but I am really stucked at the moment and hoping that someone may guide me to the correct direction.
I have got HTC One X-LTE (Evita)
I managed to get S-OFF and also CID - 111111
It has TWRP 2.6
The last time I got it working was on the STOCK 4.2.2 I downloaded from the XDA - then I got into the issues of rebooting and loosing signal from time to time. so I went into my TWRP backup I had and reflashed it using my old backup made from my TWRP.
the reflashed failed and now I can only boot up to the HTC logo and then black screen.
I can get to the TWRP recovery and I have got fastboot and ADB on my PC.
When I run the fastboot devices command --> it shows device connected BUT when i try ADB command ---> no device is found.
It will be much appreciated if someone can guide me to the right direction as I am really stucked at the moment not sure where to start.
I tried searching in the forum but I don't think I went to the correct area/tutorial.
Please help
Thank you
When you made your twrp backup did you select system, data, and boot? If it's hanging at the HTC screen it seems there is not boot.img installed or one that is incompatible with your backup. Open whatever Rom your backup is made from and copy the boot.img to your fastboot directory. Then reboot the phone into fastboot mode and flash the boot.img using this command.
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Then reboot the phone and see what happens

When looking at the TWRP backup I copied into my PC - does not have the .img - the one I can find is MD5
Can I use the existing ROM I donwload from XDA like : EVITA_UL_JB_50_S_TMO_DE_5.08.111.2_By_Turge.zip
when I extracted EVITA_UL_JB_50_S_TMO_DE_5.08.111.2_By_Turge.zip - I can see the "boot.img" can I use this one?

Hi Sandy
Thank you again for your help
I finally got my phone at least booting again.
What i did was I went to the fastboot and then correct to the PC and when it was asking for format the drive, I did format it (fingers crossed) and luckily it let me see the ROm I downloaded from the Stock 4.2.2 Turge version.
Now my problem is that the phone keeps rebooting.
I don;t know how to flash the kernel as suggested on the front page of the thread.
What is the most stable ROM at the moment?
I want to learn how to flash and fix this - I have kept reading post after post but I still can not get myself to where I want it to be which is fixing the reboot issue from the STOCK 4.2.2 Turge version.
I am a real newbie so I am not too familar with some of the fancy terms people use.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks again

You can either flash the kernel, which can be found in the Android Development section, flashing the kernel is just like flashing a ROM, just install in Beastmode. Or you can upgrade your firmware to 2.15, the instructions are I'm the first post of the ROM thread.
Asking which ROM is best/favorite/most stable is against the rules so we can't answer that question.
When you say the phone keeps rebooting, does it ever make it into the OS or is it boot looping (showing the boot animation then starting over)?

When you said that flashing kernel is the same as flashing ROM, I did it By going to TWRP and the press install and locate the zip file. Is this what should be done?
What is beast mode?
Sorry for the basic questions
Thanks
Yeah that's how you install the kernel. It must be done after you install the ROM. I kinda worded my reply a bit weird, sorry about that. Beastmode is the name of the kernel, you can find it here:

Disable md5 checking in settings. You never need to extract a kernel or ROM zip.

I have checked the setting in TWRP and nothing is ticked.
When I flash the zip, it is still saying "failed due to md5 does not exists".
I am not sure which should be address first but I now noticed that there is an error : "unable to locate storage device"
also came out.
When I plug my phone to PC I can see the storage but why it is saying "storage device not found" in TWRP?
Thanks

[Q] One x AT&T Evita hboot 1.14 ,I stupidly erase full memory

First of all hello to everyone who participates in this forum and thank you to the developers for their great work.
That's my problem, wanting to flash ViperXL ROM on HTC One X Evita AT&T HBOOT 1.14 /s- on /rooted

The phone still works but bootloop on the HTC logo.
I can enter in TWRP 2.6 still present on the phone.

Hi timmaaa,
thank you for your answers.
I tried to mount on my USB key with a back up, but impossible to mount with OTG .
In fact, I took the phone to repair in shop viet Nam,,
After few days ,they told me that can not repair it, for unknown reason.
I'll retrieve the phone tomorrow and I 'll try to mount usb storage on a PC.
Tanks for your help.
Ok, let me know how you go. If you did a factory reset in the bootloader the sd card will be corrupted now, so when you mount it you'll have to format it in Windows before you can copy files across.

Yes ]timmaaa ,
you perfectly understood my stupid mistake .

Glad to find someone to help me on an OS that I do not master.
I saw this file ,i will try tomorrows .

It has Stock ICS 4.0.4 and Already Rooted,
Already S-OFF,
has Custom Recovery TWRP and
SCID is 111111111 and
Software number/Build Number is 2.20 and
Kernel version is 3.0.8-01558 .....
Now my Questions is :
1. How to Update is to jelly Bean and if i Update it to Stock/Custom jelly bean then do i have to unlock/S-off it again? If Yes then How to do it? Any Given Link will be Highly Appreciated.
2. I read some Posts/Comments on some 4.2.2 Custom roms threads that "Highly recommend latest Jellybean firmware".. what does that mean? (my confusion is if i already have latest jelly Bean Firmware then why would i search update for jelly bean? )
3. if it is recommended to have latest jelly bean firmware before update to 4.2.2 then can anybody give me the link for that?
4. HTC One x AT&T has beats Audio.. if i update it to Any 4.2.2 Custom Rom.. then will beats Audio Work on new Rom? (I know it is Noob Question but i really want to know because i want Beats Audio For Music)
Thanks in Advance
1. All you need to do is install a stock 4.1 ROM from our Android Development section. Or you can install a custom ROM if you want to. The How-To Guide For Beginners link in my signature details how to do this, along with other basic operations.
2. The reason there are recommendations to flash the 2.15 firmware is because many people with a modified phone don't have the latest firmware even though they might have the latest ROM. In the world of modified phones it's completely normal to switch ROMs without changing your firmware. For someone with an unmodified phone the only way to upgrade your ROM is to also upgrade your firmware. Before deciding if you need to do this (you most likely do) I need your bootloader details, the first five lines.
3. You'll find the firmware package along with install instructions in the first post of this thread.
4. Yes, Beats is incorporated into all current Sense ROMs. If you decide to install an aosp ROM it isn't incorporated.
Further to all those answers, I'd strongly recommend you do a lot of reading before proceeding with anything. Modifying a phone requires a certain level of knowledge, without knowing what you're doing (and the consequences) you can quickly get in over your head and end up with a device that won't boot, or worse.
Click the Everything Evita link in my signature, it's a resource thread that contains links to everything you'll need, make sure you bookmark that thread. Click the other links in my signature too, you'll find a wealth of very useful information in those threads. I'd also suggest you browse our forum for a few days to get a firm grasp on things. I'll put it like this, I researched for two weeks before modifying my phone.

First of all thanks a lot for replying So fast and giving your time to help me...
my bootloder details:
*** TAMPERED ***
*** UNLOCKED ***
EVITA PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
CID- 11111111
HBOOT-1.14.0002
and also my Software number/Build Number is 2.20 and
Kernel version is 3.0.8-01558 ..... is it ok or first i need to update both ?
If you want to update to Android 4.2.2 and Sense 5 you first need to flash the 2.15 firmware found in the thread I linked you to before. Do you have a custom recovery installed? If so all you need to do after flashing the firmware is to install a ROM of your choosing. If not, just look in my How-To thread for instructions on how to do that. There's no need to worry about your current ROM/kernel, flashing a ROM will update those.

i have build number 2.20.502.7.. do i still need 2.15 firmware?
For the third time, yes. Your build number is irrelevant anyway.

i am stuck at firmware...this error comes everytime... screenshot attached... please see ...
Try opening the command prompt from within the fastboot folder. To do this just navigate to the location on your PC where fastboot.exe is located, then shift + right click anywhere within that folder, then select open command prompt here. Now start the process from the beginning. Then when you get to the part where you flash the firmware you don't need to cd to the location, you just do this:
Code:
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip

a lot coz i am noob :'( )
You still have the 2.20 build number because that's the ROM version that is currently installed on your device. All you have done so far is update your firmware, that's completely separate to your ROM.
At this point all you need to do now is install a ROM. You'll find Sense 5 ROMs in our Android Development. You'll find instructions on installing a ROM in my How-To Guide For Beginners thread in my signature.
To install a ROM you first need a custom recovery, go into your bootloader and select recovery, tell me what happens.

Yes, i have already installed Custom Recovery TWRP... now i think all i need to do is install a ROM .... so should i directly install any 4.2.2 custom ROM or first i should install 4.1 then after 4.2 ?
You can install any custom ROM you like, no need to install a 4.1 ROM first. But you should make a backup, check my How-To Guide For Beginners thread for instructions on how to do that.

Installing a stock ROM doesn't affect your bootloader or your s-on/s-off status, it only writes to the /system partition.
That ROM does contain some at&t elements, but whatever SIM card you're currently using should be perfectly fine. Once you've SIM unlocked a device you can use any SIM card on it.
Basically you can use any ROM found within our device forum and you'll be ok.

Exactly which version of TWRP have you installed? Did you make a backup earlier like I suggested? If so you can use the restore feature in TWRP to restore that backup of your previous ROM. I do need to know which TWRP version you're using though.

Also, did you check the md5 of the ROM after downloading it?

Ok there's your problem, TWRP 2.5 is full of bugs. Download the modified version of TWRP 2.6*from here. Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you should be able to install the ROM.
An md5 is like a digital fingerprint of a file. It will be listed on the download page for a ROM/kernel/radio. What you do is use an md5 checking app/program to check that the md5 of the downloaded file matches the md5 listed on the download page. If it matches you're all good, if it doesn't match it means the file became corrupted during the download. You should always check the md5 of anything you're about to flash, a corrupt file could damage your phone if you install it.
Once you have installed the ROM you should reboot back into TWRP and use the backup feature to backup system/data/boot. Then if you have any problems in the future you can use the restore feature to restore it and you'll have a working OS.
It's also a good way to have your favourite ROMs backed up. Once I decide I like a ROM I set it up with all my apps and settings and then make a backup. That way if I ever want to use that ROM in future I can easily restore the backup and have a fully setup ROM ready to go. It's much easier than installing a ROM from scratch and setting it up all over again.

Rogers One X Bootloop and RUU Failure (please help)

Hiya. Any help appreciated here, Got hold of a Rogers One X (evita)
Heres where I am at right now:
I unlocked the bootloader and attempted to flash CM11 (Got an error regarding update package) *I made no backup- Noob, I know.*
Now, at the very most all I can get into is CWM/TWRP (I can flash both of these without issue using fastboot)
I have attempted to re-lock the bootloader (which says relocked) but I have tried the 2 rogers RUU files I managed to find and both fail with an error 115 and leave me on the htc logo, and boot to bootloader only.
I tried to flash some custom roms, some seem to flash ok but just boot-loop.
I am not SuperCID, and the phone is S-ON.

I cannot figure what to do next. I dont care what goes on the phone as long as i can get it working. Its been a long time since I messed with android, I only bought this phone for this reason lol, but I made the mistake of staying up too late and probably skipping half of the tutorials i was following.
Any help appreciated.
What version of TWRP are you using? Why did you relock the bootloader? You should unlock that again. Did you flash the boot.img from the ROM zip via fastboot after flashing the ROM in TWRP? You need to do this because you're s-on. You should read the Evita FAQ thread in my signature, as well as the How-To Guide For Beginners thread.

Wow, timmaaa, thanks for the superfast answer chap!
So, unlock the bootloader, flash the Rom (CM11), then the Boot.img extracted from the rom via fastboot?
Sounds like a plan. I will try that now. I think to be honest, I came home last night and ended up following a bit of one tut, a bit of another, and never really read properly. Call it friday evening alcohol induced noobness syndrome.
That should be it. You need to make sure you use the correct version of TWRP though, you're looking for the unofficial modified TWRP 2.6.3.0 by jrior001 in our Original Android Development section.

Thank you. The boot.img thing got me a bit further so far. I will get that version of TWRP installed and try the CM11 again, as i think thats where I want to be at. It should be as simple as CM11 flash, Boot.img flash, then Gapps and im done, right?
Perform a full wipe (cache/dalvik cache/factory reset/system), flash CM, flash gapps, flash boot.img, reboot into ROM.

Ok one last question Timmaaa, I have installed that TWRP, flashed CM11, also Gapps and the boot.img , and now I just get the rom bootlogo (spinning cyanogen etc) and nothing, it just sits there. Is there anything else that may need to be done? If theres not anything obvious, ill go read some more!
Thanks for the help so far!

What is the filename of the ROM zip you flashed? Did you check the md5 of the file after you downloaded it? Are you sure the flashing of the boot.img was successful?
Timmaaa, it seems it just took ages. I went downstairs for some juice, came back up and there it was, the setup screen! Beautiful.
Thanks for the help, it seems its not the technical i need to brush up on, but my paying attention and reading - lol!
Thanks again man! :good:
