Perpetually Active Software - WeChat - General Questions and Answers

WeChat is a fun and useful program that everyone I know uses... and I guess nobody cares about this issue but me, but its a serious issue
Wechat can never be prevented from launching on start up, even from Super User... no matter what, it just pops right back onto the list of start up applications immediately after its disabled
you can end the running process, end the cached process, use several task managers to prevent it from running or starting at boot.. but nothing ever works
and as soon as you get a message from someone, your phone message light starts blinking and a wechat icon appears in the taskbar.. even when there was no sign of the program even active at all
and i've found even worse violations from other chinese programs like tudou, youku, sohu, etc.. their programs will actually not start at boot, but suddenly appear with messages and news feeds in your information bar, and will even start downlaoding media to your phone without your permission
any idea how I can sever wechats malicious control & permissions violations and stop it from booting, and also prevent messages when the app hasnt been launched?
i've literally tried everything
thanks

if only...
everything is blocked in China, no facebook, no twits, no anything
wechat is the one tool i can connect with all the people I know.. and literally every single person in China uses it..
a lot of my overseas friends in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and North America also use it too, because they know or have known people in China
so.. I'll keep using it anyway, since its the main use for my phone anyway.. but I'd like to break free from its grasp a bit
I feel its a Government spy program, but private manufacturers in China are equally as deliberately intrusive & invasive programmers, so who knows
its from Tencent, the company which gained infamy for its unremovable Tencent QQ toolbar virus for windows
i hate the company, but need the program, unfortunately

[Request] Chrome to phone-like app for finding phone

Hi guys!
I know there is a way to create a Chrome extension which, when clicked, launches an app on the phone that vibrates the phone and plays a sound file at the loudest volume, so I can find it. Like Chrome to phone but with a different purpose.
This would be a great app for those times when you need to go but just can't find your phone even though you know it is somewhere in the home. With just the press of a button you could hear (or feel, if it's very close to you) where it is! No need to use another phone to call yours or run around the apartment getting all tired and angry!
Personally I would have used it like eight times since I came up with the idea, but I don't know Android programming or HTML (for the extension) so I can't create it myself.
where's my droid
and a couple of other apps already do this. They take a sms message and crank up the volume.

That's great for some people (with unlimited SMS), but unfortunately I haven't got unlimited SMS (nor do I always have access to a second phone. If I did though I would probably call my phone instead as this request is for finding the phone when you know it is somewhere near but don't have the patience to run around and search for it)
The app I want doesn't use SMS messages for launching the app but the Cloud-to-device service introduced with Android 2.2 and at the moment only available to a small but growing number of devices.
I use the Chrome to phone app & ext (code dot google dot com/p/chrometophone) on my Nexus and although it doesn't work every time when it does work it feels like magic!
I thought it would feel as much if not even more like magic if you could use this new service to find your phone with ease. I don't need it to have all the (for some) great features like showing where the phone is on a Google map or wiping important data if it's lost, I've got other apps for that.
I want this app to be as simple as it possibly can be, again like Chrome to phone:
Setting up: Download, Register phone, Be logged into Google account, done!
Use: Be logged into Google account, click extension button, wait a sec, phone rings, done!
Now does anyone here know how to create this app or where to request it to increase the chances of it getting past the idea stage and into something usable? It would surely make my day!

[Q] Possible malware aMusic201011_3.apk

I just upgraded to Titanium Backup Pro and after exiting the program my Browser pops up with this page advertising HotMusic for the Android with a sexy female photo. I exit the browser, and immediately my phone starts downloading the above app. I then get the message that HotMusic application was stopped from loading as it wasn’t from the Android Market. I checked ASTRO File Manager and under downloads I find aMusic201011_3.apk sitting there (with the female thumbnail photo), so I delete it, and run a Lookout malware scan. I’ve searched online as well as on the boards and don’t find any mention of this application or the site. My questions are, is this malware, and has any one else had this problem? Also, if I update to a different ROM will I still have the protection of some unwanted software being able to sideload onto my phone.
Thanks

I don't have Titanium Pro, but are there ads in it? Possible you clicked one?
In my experience with computers (ie: people using IE calling me to fix their malware), these sort of things often intentionally don't manifest themselves until a bit after their initial infestation.. My guess is so it's harder to determine where they came from.
What other programs have you installed recently? Honestly I still am not that quick to believe that there is malware going on, rather some accidental click or selection, but..
I'm surprised as well, but have come across hijacked respectable websites in the past, so I feel anything is possible. I did not have the browser open when the event took place, nor was it running in the background. I find it hard to believe that the developers of the Titanium package intentionally placed this package on it.
Is this possibly a new malware package or vulnerability exploit of the Android system (or am I just the lucky one)?
Do you still have the "aMusic201011_3.apk" which was downloaded? Might make to easier to figure out

Joel doesn't include ads in his app. It's all ad-free and purely run off donations, which I'm sure he receives a lot of.
But I agree with you that OP probably mis-tapped something and thats what caused all this.
Thanks, maybe it was a faulty thumb
Thank you for your responses. It's possible that my thumb hit an ad, it happened very quickly after paying for the pro/premium version. My first inclination was to stop the browser, and then delete the program, so unfortunately I did not keep a copy.
There has not been any further problems with the phone, so consider this post finished. Thanks

Phishing Attack via Google Assistant?

Hey all and thanks in advance for any help you can provide as I have been racking my brain trying to figure this one out, but keep falling flat. A few days ago I received a Google Assistant notification on my Nexus 5X running the current stock Android (no rooting or modification on this device in any way). It was bringing to my attention an "important" email about one of my credit cards. I was immediately suspicious as this was the first time I had ever gotten a notification of this kind from Google Assistant. Usually it is sports score updates, bill reminders, breaking news, etc... But it did appear to be a legitimate Google Assistant notification so I did click it (I later confirmed this as I checked my notification history and it did show up as a Google App notification). It then opened Google Assistant, but then immediately opened either Chrome itself or a Chrome custom tab. The address that it opened appeared to be the legitimate Gmail domain, and unless it was using non Latin characters then I have no reason to believe otherwise. Not only that but it was showing an already opened email claiming to be from one of my credit card companies stating that there were important changes to their policies and/or my account.
It was at this point that I knew something was amiss. Images were being blocked in the email and just the whole process seemed "off". I opened Inbox/Gmail on my desktop and sure enough there was no such email there, it was at this point that I knew beyond doubt it was a scam. I was very careful not to click anything in the email but I could see that the "To:" label was to my legitimate email address and the "From:" address was typical of a phishing/scam email (eg. the name of the credit card company but with some kind of modifier attached). I wish I would have taken a screenshot of it, but it all caught me off guard. If it happens again believe me I will.
What made this all even weirder was when I tried to access this link on my desktop as I wanted to try and run some tests on the link that it was trying to get me to click on. I went on my Chrome history to track the link down but it was not there. So I checked my Chrome history on my phone and sure enough it showed up there, but not on my desktop. It was the only link not showing up on my desktop's Chrome history, all other links were there and I could see the same two links that were before and after the link in my phone's Chrome history but not that one. I have since factory reset my phone to be on the safe side and sure enough on my new install that link is also not showing up there either.
Now I am fairly well versed in tech, am very disciplined in "think before you click", and pride myself in being able to spot a scam - but I am also no expert and this is where I am needing some help in figuring out what exactly happened. I need to figure out if my device was compromised or if there is any way a malicious actor could have triggered my Google Assistant to open up a link like it did.
There is more to this story though which makes it a bit more complicated. Towards the beginning of the year I had a credit card that got compromised, this credit card was from the same company that the scam email was claiming to be from. Luckily I have alerts turned on and I was able to spot it almost immediately and reported it. The card was cancelled and I received a new one. I had my suspicions about how it was compromised but nothing for sure (I have never had a security problem like this, and I had recently used a website that I had never used before to purchase something - not damning itself but definitely suspicious). A couple months later and it happened again. At this point I was about 95% sure which website had compromised it. I believe the website itself was not malicious but that it's database had been breached, meaning the card only became compromised if it was "stored" in my account as a payment option. Also of note was that I have two cards with this particular company and only the one card I used on this website was compromised, not both cards nor the account itself (no other cards, companies, or payment options either). Further confirmation of my suspicions are that since I narrowed which website I thought that it was and it has not happened again.
My whole reason brining all of that up is that without it, to me anyways it would seem like my device is compromised. But with that story, and the fact that scam email was obviously phishing for my login credentials to that company makes it seem like someone somehow figured out a way to trigger my Google Assistant. Not only that, but triggered it to open up someone else's Gmail in a Chrome tab with an email already opened. Is that even possible? Do third party apps or services have this kind of access to Google Assistant? If not, it would seem to indicate for certain that my device is/was compromised, yeah?
As I already stated, I have since factory reset my phone, and every website and service I use has strong passwords and 2FA with alerts turned on if possible. But without knowing exactly how this attack was possible I still feel vulnerable. I have seen many phishing attacks in my day but this one seemed personalized, not mass targeted like the other which also makes me worry (again, even more so since I am not certain how this one happened). Plus I am worried that if it was my device that was compromised then a factory reset may not be enough. Many, many thanks for anyone who has a more intimate knowledge of Google's developer ecosystem that can help.
[EDIT} I will continue to add some things here that I think may be relevant to diagnosing this issue.
I was not doing anything at the time that this notification was sent. I was not even on my phone - I use Pushbullet to get notifications on my desktop and it was there that I first noticed it. And honestly, I do not even use my phone that much as I am near my desktop almost all the time. The rare times that I do use it, it is for listening to music or podcasts, almost no web browsing at all and very little app usage.
I was at home at the time of the notification, meaning no public or untrusted Wi-Fi. Nor at risk of any bluetooth type attack either.
I do use a VPN at all times.

Stock OnePlus 7 Pro possible bug or virus with Varo banking app

Here is a Link a video I just posted on YouTube showing what I'm referring to below did blur out any and all of my personal information, I hope that it does not violate and rules, laws, or policy's. *Side note I somehow messed up the audio & I don't usually sound like a dude
I don't know the correct place for this post even after reading the thread for such things and I did try the search function and still was unsure.
If this post is deleted for incorrect topic forum please advise me of the correct place, if there is one.
I am having this weird thing going on with my phone and I cannot find anything similar to the issue online, and it's highly probable it's somehow user error.
Since I don't know where to turn to for advise (I am aware factory resetting it will probably resolve it but I want to know what is causing it as well as fixing the issue), I figured I would start here as this has been the best source of information on past android questions I've had in the past.
I have contacted the Varo Bank (the new Varo Bank app) support and their developers through the their beta tester app. No response yet (5 days).
The reason for this post... Over the past 2 weeks or so I will hear a (new) tone then my phone opens up my main banking app (Varo Bank). This happens again and again sometimes it only happens a few times a minute others it's 6-7 times in a minute to where my phone is nearly unusable. It can happen anytime my phone is unlocked including while I'm on a call, after restarting phone, on and off wifi, cellular, &/or airplane mode, even while I am already in the banking app. I originally assumed it had to do with some sort of shortcut or where it was located on my home screen. So first I moved it, then when that didn't work, I deleted it for every page except my app drawer. Since non of those issues resolved the issue, I checked for software updates of both my phone and the app itself, yet they were both at the most recent versions. Although I NEED the app for obvious reasons, I decided to uninstall the app. After it was uninstalled I restarted my phone and as soon as I unlocked it I heard the "Ba Ding" sound again, but this time it took me to the Google play store for the same Varo Bank app I had just uninstalled. At this point I joined their beta testers then reinstalled the Beta version of the Varo Bank hoping that if it is the banking app that's causing the issue that would resolve it or I would have a better chance of contacting their developer's or technical support. I have sent 2 emails to their general Support and left a comments on the play store for the app which goes to the developers and is not a public comment. It has been 5 days and I have yet to get a response that wasn't autogenerated.
Sorry for the poorly written, LONG post, this is just driving me crazy. Thanks in advance for any advice, comments or possible direction on where to turn for answers or support.

Hi, to me this sounds like a really terrible bug on the banking app you are using or a virus. Would assume the latter.
I have two separate banking apps on my phone and never ever experienced my apps opening on thier on, even redirecting me to install it again after uninstall.
If it were a phone bug, it would do this with any app not just your banking app.
I could be wrong in my assumptions, just trying to advise you to be careful.
I would, backup my data, format and start fresh.

Ya I figured as much, I just really loathe the thought of having to do a fresh install, because my phone storage organization is non existent. Regardless I'm hoping to draw some attention to the issue, with whatever the issue may be. Varo the name has been around for awhile, but they just recently became an actual independent bank (they were under Bank Corp before.
I can't be, nor will I be the only customer with this issue not to mention it's my understanding that you "have" to use the app, due to very limited web capabilities. I have not verified that myself though.
So we'll see if this helps get since attention for the issue
I am getting the same error, but only with the Varo app, nothing else.
I have the same issue that just started this week on my Pixel 7. Did you just add it to your GPay or Wallet recently?

Question Anyone seeing this "bsp monkey & bsp monkey1" in accessibility?

I have checked all apps and everything in my knowledge but cannot figure out what it is about? Please help me what it is "bsp monkey" & "bsp monkey1" in accessibility
I too can see that and was wondering what is that.
After recent update only this is visible.
I messaged Iqoo team over whatsapp on wednesday 14th Dec. They did not have any clue and has not answered till yet
I communicated with Google and they never heard about it. Seemed to arrive at same time META SERVICES self installed.
I think I had find something that will be helpful as I was also seeing this accessibility setting after new update.
So here that might help
Okay, so imagine you have a game you like to play on your phone or tablet. Sometimes when you open the game, there's a little video that plays before you can start playing. This video is called an ad. Sometimes, you can skip the ad after a few seconds, but sometimes you have to click a certain spot on the screen to make it go away.
The service that the statement is talking about doesn't know how to do that clicking on certain spot on the screen, so some ads that need that clicking won't work. It's like if you had a toy that only knows how to do certain things, but not everything.
Uninstall/Disable this app com.vivo.bsptest using ADB and it will be gone.
