Which finish? I have the gunmetal one and I carry it around with my battery pack in the same pocket, and with some loose change and haven't scratched it yet.

I'm still waiting for my case to come in mail. The one on the top is from a bump.the other scratches are just from everyday use. I'm real good at taking care of my phones.

..

thats why they make cases. its aluminum it is going to scratch

I do agree that it will scratch easy being aluminum. I just find it really unfortunate that so much time, energy and resources spent on designing a phone like this (one marketed for it's design as it's main selling point) has to be covered up with a case to be protected. That's why I don't get into the "OMGITSPLASTIC" conversations.
It's either "phone is plastic and cheap so I must put a case on it" or "phone is premium and sexy aluminum that will easily get damaged so I must put a case on it".
Not bashing, just think it's unfortunate.

Funny.... I didn't even think of that. Its aluminum and it does scratch easy. ****!

Exactly, there's always at least one that complains. Shot, where can i find a $500,000 car that doesn't scratch? LOL, same concept people, stuff scratches, don't lose sleep over it. Id take this build on a device any day over plastic that snaps and breaks if dropped vs this kind of build which at worse might slightly dent the body and scratch but still hold it's own. Want to look fancy, wear your phone out naked as long as you can. Once it's all scratched up, then get a case. I'm OCD with this stuff so screen protector and case gets put on as soon as device is taken out of the box in store! I don't care if it comes with Gorilla Mega Super Duper Glass 1000, why take chances on something so amazing?

Oh ok.. well, where can I find a case to put on my "$500,000 car"?
I don't care what anyone says, if you drop a "plastic" phone..you are more than likely going to break the glass screen rather that the plastic. The same can definitely be said about a soft aluminum phone. It isn't offering anymore natural drop protection over plastic, I would argue less because it will dent and contort where plastic really won't.
It was the case with my M7 and my Note 3, both have been dropped a few times. Luckily both glass screens survived, but the Note didn't show damage from a short drop like the m7 did. My option was to cover it up with a case, hiding all the "beauty" it may have.
Now, excuse me while I go out and buy a case to hide my car and a case to cover up my pretty girlfriend. Don't want anything to get damaged, so I must cover it up!!

I see your point but my sarcastic point was that people want a scratch free device out of the box from factory. Just like a scratch free car out of factory lot. That is not possible, at least not anytime soon so like you said, battle between plastic and this metal type of casing. Personally i'll always choose a premium feeling metal type body over any kind of super duper plastic build that will just snap off from falls.

If the phone was scratched out of the box id be sending it back and would buy a 60k car if it had a scratch on it on the car lot? I wouldn't I'd ask for a different car..a scratch RESISTANT phone would be what we want out of the box.. I guess I was just use to a plastic phone.

I thought the op said it scratches easily as in saying after use and time it started to scratch. Not that out of the box it came scratched, totally different story.

I was commenting on ur sarcastic point in ur last comment, but it doesn't matter. Have a good day bro..

I bought the the clear case from the Verizon store ..it's shows the back and protects at the same time with a bumper casing around it..def worthy of my 15 bucks

I would just get it covered in a clear film. You could use "Ghost Armor" or just get a nice skin online. Depending on whether you want to see the original finish. I hate cases myself and never use one, instead opting for skins as I only really care about scratch protection. I also don't use screen protectors as GG3 is strong enough.

Scratched metal

You know, I like the metal "stripe" down the back, but can you believe my fingernail scratched it? I don't think that bodes well for the long haul if I can scratch it that easily. And it's a real scratch, not a surface blemish as far as I can tell.
Anyone else already scratch the metal?
Mine is scratched, or scuffed, and I have no idea how it happened. I have been babying this thing.
i assume you took the plastic off of it? cause the plastic is easy to scratch. =) haha.

Uhhh you didn't put a case on your phone right away? I bought their 20$ one and its awesome.... Protection yo.
U do know its "brushed" as in brushed metal... its made to look like that.... cuz I just tried scratching it (sense I'm getting a new one) and I can't scratch it with my nail..

Yeah I just tried it again and I couldn't either, so I'm thinking it was there already. The reason I scratched with my nail in the first place was I thought I saw some left over plastic or something still there. So I tried to scratch it off.
Instead of putting ugly bulky cases on my devices I just buy a couple spare battery covers on Ebay a couple months after the phone is released. I always wonder why people cover up there nice looking phone with a rubber case. Wonder why the manufacturers just don't make a rubber phone?

hey, it really does happen. i havent taken off the protectors cause they're not peeling for me. lol.
I am very very careful with all of my phones. I have yet to actually scratch one(I always use cases and screen protectors.) I was shocked when after only having installed the battery and set the device down that the aluminum strip had multiple scratches on it. I have no idea how they got there. Went to local T Mobile store and checked their demo unit and NO SCRATCHES . With all of the handling etc no scratches!!! I wonder if it is a quality control issue with the aluminum? I put a case on it within 4 hours of receiving it. I am having to send this one back due to random reboots -signal issues-battery overheating-lcd screen bleeding at edges- so I will be very very careful to see what this aluminum strip on the back is like. I am starting to wonder whether this phone is ready for prime time or not due to all the issues I have found and the many other issues others have found. I believe this can be a giant of a phone if all of the bugs can be worked out.

Well, I exchanged it thanks to the nice folks at T-mobile.
Make sure it's not the plastic on the strip that's messed up, as the first thing they checked was whether or not the plastic was still on.

Mine did that the other day. I looked at it and was like, "OMFG... already!"
Then I noticed the plastic. I wore it for a few days didn't even know it was on there. I recommend leaving it on unless there is a huge scratch on it.

Dropping phones is inevitable. It will SOON eventually happen. I hate to put on cases too, but it's necessary.
I would have just left the plastic on...why take it off? It was literally invisible and you couldn't tell it was even there.
The Galaxy is actually a beast. I've dropped mine so many times and it held up. Don't let the lightness fool us..it's one beast and held it's own on it's fall...impressive.
As they say, the bigger and heavier you are, the harder you fall...
There's a huge advantage of the Galaxy being light...
The worst phones for falls are HTC's...wayyy to heavy...
I agree with dropping the galaxy s. That phone is well built! People may not like the plastic build but it is a very durable phone!
Regarding the G2x, I am carrying it naked it is a good looking phone. Gonna buy the European battery covers when they become available.

Seidio Surface scratched my phone [EDITED: PICTURES INCLUDED]

I received my Seidio Surface case on Wednesday. At first, I was really excited. The case has a nice finish and good build quality. However, yesterday I decided to take the case off to clean my phone and I saw the four corners of the phone very deeply scratched. The bezel also has some scratches.
Before someone says it's because of debris and dust that gets in the case, I am pretty sure that I cleaned the case very well and dusted if off with a can of compressed air. The scratches were definitely caused by the case.
I am deeply disappointed with Seidio and their product. This piece o junk that costs almost 40 bucks was meant to protect my device, yet it did the opposite.
EDITED: Here are the pictures:
THESE PICTURES ARE THUMBNAIL LINKS TO THE ACTUAL SIZE PICTURES. MAKE SURE YOU VIEW THIS THREAD USING A BROWSER, NOT THE XDA APP (AS IT WILL ONLY DISPLAY THE ENLARGED PIXELED THUMBNAIL)
i had mines for 2 months and no deep scratches only on the side bezel maybe 1 or 2, but that is due to me taking case on and off tryin to take out battery and messing around with it. The case looks good doesnt feel cheap or look cheap like other cases like tpu or wateva silicone cases. And i really dont care about scratches on side bezel or corner im more worry about me dropping my phone and screen getting cracked!!! i dropped my phone with the Seidio case on like 5 times and no damages at all.
sorry to hear that. I have experienced scratches by cases before, that's why I don't use hard cases anymore. THe only cases I would go for is silicone and TPU. Even with my Motrola xt720 TPU hard case, it still gave micro-scratches on the phone.
The whole point of getting a case for me was preventing scratches, since I hardly ever drop my phone. Seidio sucks.

What do you mean product to push? If you think I'm trying to lead people not buy Seidio, you are right. But as you mentioned, it appeared to be the best choice in the market at the moment. I'm just posting my experience as a user, if you wanna have a chance of getting your phone scratched, then go ahead and use a Seidio case. However, I feel at least obligated to share my experience and warn others in the G2x community about bad products that I have had experience with. Contrary to you who seems to be a selfish kid.

I will take a picture and post here, but first I need to get a camera. By Friday it should be posted. Now, if you doubt what I'm saying, just google "seidio scratch phone" without quotes. You will be surprised in knowing that I'm not the first one to experience this. Again, I may be the first one to actually post my experience with the G2x and the Seidio case. The inner edges of the cases are curved in too much. So over time, it will cause minute scratches.
Immediate fix would be to sand it down a little.
Here's a pic of one of the corners. That mark is exactly where the cases inner edge is. So no, the OP is not making this up.

Check back in about two weeks. Obviously if you just got it, you aren't going to see this problem yet.
I can confirm that the case has done the same thing on my phone, but not as badly as OP. Still, I'm really bothered by it. Went back to my 4 dollar TPU case and not too happy about it.

Thanks for the heads up, I removed my case to check for scratches, but there were none. I've had the case for about 2 weeks now. To the people who have scratches, do you use vibration? That may be the problem because I rarely use vibration and I have no scratches at all

Is there a case that has the ability to attach a lanyard?

My mom and dad are coming from old flip phones where they had lanyards to prevent/minimize drops. I'm a little more concerned now that they have something more expensive and prone to damage if dropped. I originally wanted to get them the Diztronic TPU cases, but if there's something out there with a lanyard attachement hole that would be best.

nice! i just wish they made one without the big android logo. i'll show it to my parents to see if they mind it or not.

This was mentioned in another thread as well, but I'm not enitrely sure that I'd trust a lanyard on a silicone type case. What exactly is preventing it, when falling with a force, from holding onto the case and NOT the device? While the cases are clearly fit to our devices, they aren't exactly strongly hanging on either.
Unless you're using a lanyard on an Otterbox type of case, I wouldn't really trust it to hold more than just the case in a fall.
Dude, Im gonna go out on a limb and say, I think the lanyards are even better protection than a case...maybe not protection, but prevention. (That sounds weird..btw)
I used to put the lanyards on all my phones and, aside from kind of looking like an ass, I cant tell u how many times I prevented a drop, especially when pulling out of my pocket. It's just something to grab on to.. so.. +1

I used to as well, but it was actually on the phone, not the case (though it regularly went through a hole in the case as well, but the lanyard hole was built into phones before!)
I dont trust a lanyard attached to a rubber case
I have a CaseMate Barely There, very sleek,.. and strong, .. and has 2 holes for lanyard attach:

it's visible on the photos
This one 2 little holes for the lanyard too.

Damn !! thats a nice looking case
Such a shame that a well made case adds so much bulk
If only the One S had some rubber grips down the side, I wouldnt need a case then

[Q] Plasti-Dip?

Hi. Would spraying Plasti-Dip directly on the back of the HTC One X (while shielding the screen and ports) damage the polycarbonate plastic finish of the device? I would think not since Plasti-Dip is itself a form of plastic but I'm not sure? Anyone know?
Do you want it for extra grip? It will not stain if you use it but try and stick to white or clear. Word of warning...It will wear off quickly with use/pulling out of pocket.
I suggest buying a thin case and not using spray.
Yes, I do want some extra grip. I only have the black one also. I have actually already ordered a slim case that's really nice that will arrive in a few days. Using Plasti-Dip was more of a curiosity for me and an alternative that will keep my phone scratch free when not in the case. Would the black spray affect the feel/grain of the body? I've actually thought against it for now and decided that if I ever take the phone out of the case I'll buy, I'll want it to be naked, but since it's a white phone, black Plasti-Dip could provide some nice contrasting texture. Just a thought.
because of the type of plastic the phone uses it may not even stick properly.

I sprayed the battery cover on my Nexus S which looked great for a few weeks. The Plasti-Dip doesn't really stick to the paint, but instead is more of a rubber drying on top and is held with suction. My problem was around the edges where the battery snaps on I couldn't go as thick so it started peeling there.

Just because Plasti-Dip is primarily plastic, doesn't mean it won't damage other plastics (unless the manufacturer claims it won't harm plastic?). There are obviously going to be solvents and other chemicals in it, especially the spray variety. These may damage or etch the polycarbonate on the phone. Probably the only way of really finding out, is to try it and see. Could end up being an expensive experiment.

Hey everyone. I decided against it, especially since just today my new Seido Surface case for the One X came in the mail, (and it's super nice), and the more I thought about it, the less interesting the idea of Plasti-Dipping the phone seemed. Firstly, if it worked, it could possibly look cheap since the phone is one solid piece and there would be a sharp edge on the side of the phone where the Plasti-Dip stopped. Secondly, it might not even work and I would rather not use my shiny new One X (third one after exchanges) as a test model to fulfill a small curiosity. For now, I'll just stick with my new case. I would, however, be interested to know the results if anyone else tried it out. But I've decided against it.
it worked
So, I know this thread is pretty old and I don't know if this will be seen but I recently became very interested in plastic dipping. I did try plasti dipping my htc one x and it worked. I did this last night and unfortunately I was to hasty and didn't let it dry so it peeled off rather easily. I'm going to give it another shot today and wait a few days to let it cure before touching it. I will get back to you with the results and a step by step if anyone is interested in doing this.

Uh Oh

So why are people putting cases and screen protectors on the phone if HTC will replace even a scratched screen....

Because people like taking care their things. Just because the Uh-Oh program allows you to replace your device within one year despite of scratches, breaks and water damage doesn't mean someone is going to change the way they take care of their device with the idea in their head they'll get a new one for free.
Because if you ever sell it, people would like a pristine phone. I've always got top dollar on resales due to taking great care of the phone, so it is almost like new, plus, taking great photos. That combo has always got me above average prices since I just buy my phones outright.
I'm only expecting uh-oh in case something really bad goes wrong.
I'm not a fan of cases unless they are extremely thin and made of genuine leather - however Uh Oh while great won't cover your dent in the corner of the aluminum housing after a drop or a scratch in the anodized aluminum case due to some other accident.
Saw a minor scratch on the screen before I put a Zagg on it. Don't care anymore!
