What is the best, most stable, current rom? - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Hey yall, been out the game for a little while.... just wondering what everyone is running as far as new roms. I always liked CM, maybe that's just cuz its the only one I really used.
I am obviously interested in KitKat roms now but I see a few different options so I was wondering what the differences were, and about stability, features, etc.
Thanks in advance!

I'm running Carbon nightly build 20140314-0511. It has more features which can't be found on CM11. Using it so far without glitches. No random reboots or freezing.

Is it a KitKat rom? What are the features that cant be found in CM?

Well I went ahead and downloaded Carbon KK and while i do like the customization there seems to be a fatal flaw with restoring messages using programs like SMS Backup & Restore. I restored 10k messages to the phone using this app and when I did that I had to change Backup & Restore to the default app and it cannot send messages. So when i switch back to Messaging to enable sending then the program crashes or doesnt show or send any messages or conversations. It says to "leave the messaging app open for a while" but this seems really silly.
I always hold onto my messages so i can reference past conversations but apparently im unable to do that on KK roms. Seems really stupid.

Use Google Voice? Archive all your messages.
*shrug*

Of course once i posted my response they all started magically working again...............................................

Begging for advice on performance...

All I really care about is email and sms/mms for my HTC Fuze. I have 4 email accounts (2 gmail and to standard smtp) and am using Seven Beta to check them. I'm currently running the latest EnergyROM as I've found it to run the fastest. I have been running SPB Mobile Shell 3.1 as it seemed to be the fastest interface. However, it's still unbearable. Is everyone else's FUZE this slow or am I missing something that everyone else is doing to make this thing usable?
When I get a new email or sms, I hit the icon and wait sometimes 30 seconds for the messaging app to open. Many times, the entire phone freezes for a minute or so. I've been through ROM after ROM and literally done everything that I can to make this thing faster. It always runs a little better when I first flash a new rom and then slows down within a week. I always have to clean out my emails/sms to get a margin of performance back.
All I need is suggestions for the lightest setup, simply for SMS/MMS/Email because that is 95% of what I use my cell for, the other 5% is Facebook and Google News.
Any helps please?? I've got 2 months before I can get an iPhone... counting down the days. I just can't take Windows Mobile anymore...
Well, since you only use email, facebook and google news, you should get a light weight rom. I don't know what you're using now, but don't use a Sense (or any manila) rom. Get the lightest weight one you can. You should try Trueg's rom. It didn't get any attention, but it may be perfect for you. If I were flashing other people's roms, that might be the one I'd use. On the other hand, you may want a 6.1 rom. Noonski's rom might be worth looking into.
The only other advice is to keep you inbox clean. Don't store thousands of texts/emails on your device. Archive all the old crap somewhere.
Ok, I will look into those. I did reflash with the latest stable EnergyROM last night.. May 2nd and the speed has recovered a lot, even with Sense so maybe something was really messed up in the last ROM.
However, the messaging app still will not load until I restart the devide. I can normally get to my inbox once or twice and then it will never show up again no matter how many times I hit the button. The messaging icon just sits there glowing.

I don't use HTC messaging, but from what I've read, that's typical. Disable it and use the stock MS messaging. Personally, I'm not a big fan of any of HTC's stock apps.
if your into wm6.5 I would recommend trying TAELS standard ROM a go (the v4.23547 14th march Standard RD version works better than newest)
It is important to have flashed a standard ROM prior to flashing to a custom ROM & also installing correct rilphone.dll is important.
I am using the above ROM and have 4 mail accounts, over 300 sms/mms in my inbox & it all runs smooth. My device does not hang, does not slow down & is heavily used.
May be worth analysing what apps you are adding as this could be causing some conflict.
Touch Pro can run quite fast & smooth even the standard ROMs are not bad.
When dealing with custom roms based on beta builds ported to your device & using sense 2.5 on a processor half the speed recommended you can expect to have the odd issue !

[Q] Question about texting w/ Custom ROM's

So I have the Android Revolution HD 3.0.3 ROM flashed to my phone and I noticed that when I use the swype feature during texting it will suggest some of the stupidest words that I'm not even close to using. Is the list of words different because it's not a TMOUS ROM? How can I fix it. I find myself having to type text in landscape because swyping is useless. Thanks!
Your issue is with Swype itself, not the rom. I'm using Swype beta now and it seems to be pretty accurate for me. You can go into settings, keyboards, Swype settings, and then move the slider over to prefer accuracy over speed. It has made a dramatic difference for me. Should work for you also.
If you are referring to the trace feature and not the actual swype keyboard app, then yes the correction/suggestions will be affected by the rom.
I should have been more accurate and saying its the trace feature not swype itself. How do I alter the suggestions of my trace feature? I flashed a TMOUS ROM and its a lot better.

Though I am not sure, I would assume the preset dictionary would be in the lib file associated with the keyboard apk. I would post the question in the arhd thread or just swap it out and see what happens. Mike is really good about answering questions.
I have a really weird problem, I think it is due to the custom rom that I installed in it?
I have a problem with sending messages (sms) to all of my contacts, it lists the problem as 'message sending failed after several attempts'. I tried using GO SMS but to no avail. I have tried to select another service provider and select my service provider again, but nothing changes. I have checked the service number with service provider and it is correct, and when i try texting on another phone, it seems to work.
I have tried several insertcoin roms, and they all don't seem to work for me. Everything else is fine, recieving texts, calling, internet browsing, etc etc. Everything is fine except sending messages, which is kind of annoying.
Using Insertcoin Sense Android 2.3.4 Stable 2.5.5.
Any help on this would be great!!!

Wind P999 eagles blood update

Hi P999 users. Ive been experimenting with the Eagles Blood ICS ROMs and wanted to post some of my findings. I am not allowed to post in the relevant developer area where a detailed report would be useful so I will just post my feelings about the ROM's here for the next few weeks, until I am allowed to post more useful information.
I started out on the CM9 version of Eagles Blood, and then switched to a nightly AOSP ROM two weeks ago. I wanted to find out with AOSP was all about. This build felt very smooth. However crashes and force closing have cropped up in the past few days and this made me feel uncomfortable with the ROM's stability.
An update was released on the 20th so I felt the need to backup with Titanium and install the new ROM.
While installing the new ROM I read a notice in the changelog which confirmed my suspicion about the frequent new force closing. It seams there was some file corruption happening in previous builds... Maybe this was the reason mine was having issues??? How do I feel about this?
Anyways, after installing the newer ROM, and restoring my backup things were out of whack. Something about the restore had left some systems settings unusable and my Data connection was not working. Everything was force closing, even the android keyboard. I re-wiped and re-installed the ROM and backups with the same issues.
I decided to go back to build 4.0.3 and things have been good since. I had a feeling my Titanium backup was ruining my AOSP installations so this time I took a selective approach to restoring apps and did not restore system settings. My data connection is working again and my apps are working well. (Just to be clear I went back to the CM9 based version of EGB and not the AOSP version I was using which became unstable over time)
I do appreciate the AOSP development on behalf of EGB team but will be staying with the CM9 build for stability sake until file corruption issues are dealt with.
And that's how I feel about that.
the file corruption issue is your issue though, how are they supposed to fix your backup from your phone? Don't restore the settings and system, just apps. I don't get what the big issue is...
good job

MT3G thanks writing verbatim the solution I wrote into the OP.
*edit* the file corruption issue and the titanium backup fiasco are not related. It is my understanding that EGB team is aware of corruption cause by the early ASOP release and that they are working on it. I've decided not to use the AOSP version until they take care of it. (Solution / Workaround #1)
Maybe this is a big issue for someone who would not make the connection between restoring a system backup and the data connection not working anymore. I felt this was good information and that's why I posted it (Solution / Workaround #2)
Yeah that's why I never back up or restore any type of system settings; always gets you trouble.
Glad to see you're a problem solver , we don't have much of those here.
exactly my thoughts, most people wold just freak out and say the rom was stupid or something, I read the post as he was saying he is going to wait for EB team to fix the issue where as it isn't going to be "fixed" lol. Unless you are updating the same rom or a rom that hasn't been extremely updated then it's possible for it work out okay. But using cm7 backing up and then going to cm9(4.0.x) and restoring is going to be a no go probably. i'm with Buru though except I just stay away from TB all together, I only use about 12 apps and no games.
update
Just a quick update. Its been almost 3 weeks on the EGB CM9 build 4.0.3. I've been very happy with it. Occasionally I install updates and I get strange behavior after. I've found that rebuilding permissions after an update is a good practice.

I have restored email (with all accounts, data and app) as well as saved wifi locations before. I believe both of those are system settings and they never caused problems.

Try using GoBackup for apps, contacts (if you don't sync to your gmail), and some system settings. I like it more than TB. I'm not saying it won't cause FC's and that's because I don't know. But it might work better.

[Q] Messaging app not moving latest sms to the top

Hi,
I upgraded my Tab to 4.1.2 and have been having problems with my SMS. The Messaging app is not moving the thread to the top when a new text comes in, only when I reply.
ie the 10th thread in my list continues to be at the 10th position after receiving new messages. It doesn't get moved to the top which it used to. I thought it was a problem with the app and tried using Handcent. The same problem persists. It seems like there is something wrong with the time stamp of the thread not updating properly or something.
Anyone has any idea what's going on or what a solution might be? It's a big annoyance.
Thanks!
Hep, have this problem too. Very annoying.m I think samsung is doing this on purpose to force us to buy a new tab. Even though the 7.7 still holds it ground with the latest device.
Samsung is probably slowing things down on purpose too for this tab. I still notice a little lag.
I have the same problem.
same problem here, already tried a full flash (JB) still the same, i thought it was just GO SMS but I already uninstalled and and the problem persist, it's so annoying when you have to look for the one who sent u sms
In XDA, you'll find a mod to correct the date-time stamp for stock de-odex MMS.apk.
There are some simple guides, but you must be rooted first and most likely de-odexed.
Sorry, don't have the time right now to actually do a JB version for you, and also unable to test without device model (assume you have P6800).
I have previously modded a P6800 ICS app here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204628. 122 dl, and ZERO feedback. Didn't even know if it worked.....can only assume so.... This is not for JB, won't work. The JB MMS.apk needs to be modded.
It may not even solve your problem. But hey, at least there's a 'possible' solution if you're willing to try to mod yourself

I can't even begin to imagine how to mod an app. my skills are limited to just rooting and flashing roms. If I flash a custom ROM, say Cyanogen, will it fix the problem???
ok, I contacted Samsung about it and their advice was to do a complete factory wipe. I backed up my SMSs and tried it. After restoring the messages, everything was fixed. so there's the fix. but at the cost of having to restore everything after a complete wipe
Android sucks. Its the only os that forces u to do a full wipe for each updates.

Custom Roms vs Stock Rom - WhatsApp

this may have been addressed before but after much testing with numerous roms, it seems as though only the stock rom works without fail on WhatsApp notifications. all the other roms tested fail to properly notify by audio or visual unless the app is opened. the stock rom instantly notifies, regardless if the app is open or closed. has anyone else noticed this? does anyone else care? lol this is not a rant, just an observation. i use whatsapp for work as well as personal so notifications are rather important. i guess it's back to stock/rooted until something changes...
This deserved a thread? It is a well known issue if you look through the various custom ROM's.
