Asus The New PadFone Infinity (A86) aka PadFone Infinity 2 Thread - Android General

Hi,
Since I didn't find a thread for The New PadFone Infinity (A86) aka PadFone Infinity 2, decided to create this thread.
Hopefully this top device gets noticed by developers.

Any MOD for audio? Low handset speaker volume?
As you might noticed, the speaker volume (notifications, ringtones, etc.) of NPFI handset is pretty low even when all volume sliders are maxed out and audio wizard is set to "Music".
I have a rooted device and installed Alsa Mixer from Play Store and tweaked the parameter "RX7 Digital Volume" from within the app. Changed default value of 85 to 100 and was pleased to get a noticeably louder speaker volume. Problem is that the value resets almost instantly and volume level gets back to its default value. Probably because Alsa Mixer installs its own audio driver (alsa amixer) which uses a separate system for assigning values and there is a protection system in place by Asus I think.
I also played with parameters in files below (residing in /system/etc/snd_soc_msm) - tweaked the RX7, RX1, RX2, etc...
snd_soc_msm_Taiko
snd_soc_apq_Taiko_DB
snd_soc_msm_Taiko_CDP
snd_soc_msm_Taiko_Fluid
snd_soc_msm_Taiko_Liquid
saved and reboot, but it didn't make a difference. So anyone has any idea to share?
P. S. As far as I know the audio engine for NPFI is designed by Wave and is called MaxxAudio, Is it possible that it has something to do with that?

Thank you for making much needed forum.
Hopefully soon there will be gathered all the essentials.

Hello, friends!
There is good news.
After phone repair service center ASUS found a new firmware WW_A86-10.12.3.116-20140116.
Our friend was surprised at first, but then found the firmware in the phone memory. )))
Keep greetings from Russia.

hi there, thanks for the update :good:

Hmm nothing major...
I wonder why the New Padfone Infinity has to wait the longest to get the latest version of Android...

Kingoapp
Kingoapp worked ok for me for root.
I had to reboot phone and a PC after a driver install, but that's ok.
Is there a sub forum for PadFones? Would be nice to have a place for this stuff.
There are some other places for PFs.

The new update 10.12.3.130 has a bug. Apparently Asus is working to fix the bug. Don't panic. Hopefully a bug fix will be released soon.

Now I wonder how ASUS ZenFone 6 works...

Still waiting on that 130 fix... wondering if there just ignoring it and going to wait until ZenUI is ready

I must say I share your doubt. Possibly they are working on KitKat for NPFI, and ignoring the fix for now. Disappointing customer support management!

Its a shame that theres no developer support for the A86. Such a great device with no custom roms

KIT KAT Released for NPFI
Finally Asus released firmware update 11.2.5.12 for NPFI which updates its android version to 4.4.2
Download links are available at Support section of your device in Asus website.

Yes, I downloaded it and had mine updated, mine you all, 4.4.x has a known issue, that is all 3rd party apps cannot write to external SD, unless you root it and apply the fix, then either leave it as rooted or unroot it again.

Root 4.4.2 - Build: 11.2.5.26 (TW)

Rooting Firmware 12.4.0.59 - Android 5.0.2 - A86
This post is copied from my own thread in padfoneclub.com so there is no case of stealing
If you want to copy this post on other forums please do not forget to give due credits to original poster.
Disclaimer! The procedure described below has the potential of rendering your phone useless if not followed properly. I DO NOT ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY WHAT SO EVER, IF YOU BRICKED YOUR PHONE WHILE PERFORMING THIS PROCEDURE. PROCEED AT OWN RISK!
This method is tested by downgrading firmware 12.4.0.59 to 11.2.5.26, which in turn needs a factory reset/ wipe data/ cache/ afterwards. Before anything else back up your important data (ie. contacts, messages, app data, etc) to some place safe outside your phone. ORIGINAL RECOVERY of your phone will be replaced by TWRP recovery
Preparation: (BEFORE ANYTHING REMOVE YOUR SIM CARD AND MICRO SD)
1. You must have USB debugging enabled, allow mock locations (developer options menu in settings)
2. You must have UNKNOWN SOURCES enabled (security menu in settings)
3. To be on the safe side I recommend you disable VERIFY APPS OVER USB, in developer options menu. You can re enable everything after the job is done.
4. You need to download firmware 11.2.5.26, and 12.4.0.59 according to your phone SKU and save it on your computer.
5. Download WINRAR or any archiving software which is able to modify zip files and install it on your computer.
6. Download unofficial TWRP ver 2.7.1.1 ONLY from this link, and save to your computer
7. Download BETA SUPER SU 2.49 from here, and save it to your computer.
8. If you are on firmware, 11.2.5.26, or 11.2.5.30 and rooted you are half way done, if not either you have to upgrade or downgrade depending on the firmware that now you are on. For example if you already upgraded to 12.4.0.59 you need to downgrade first and root, then proceed. There's a thread in padfoneclub which comprehensively discusses way to root Kit Kat firmware so I skip to just explaining downgrade procedure from 12.4.0.59.
9. To downgrade from 12.4.0.59 to 11.2.5.26, you do it in the usual way from recovery except you need to factory reset/wipe data/ wipe cache via recovery beforehand. REMEMBER TO REMOVE YOUR MICRO SD FIRST AND THEN WIPE OR YOU MAY LOSE YOUR DATA ON MICRO SD AS WELL! After wipe, reboot your phone and place the 11.2.5.26 zip in the root of your sd card by transferring downloaded zip from your PC.
10. Downgrade by choosing "apply update from sd card menu item" in recovery and selecting the zip file you just transferred to your phone. Remember to have at least 70% charge on your battery before downgrade or upgrade.
11. After the downgrade process completes your phone reboots, if it is stuck in ASUS logo for a long time (more than 10 min), switch off your phone by pressing and holding power button. Then reboot into recovery again do another factory reset / wipe data / wipe cache and reboot again. Now everything will be OK and your phone boots to initial KK setup. proceed until you are on the home screen. reboot your phone again.
12. make sure that items explained in step 1-3 are checked and unchecked accordingly.
13. Root your phone by your desired method.
NOW THE IMPORTANT STEPS TO UPGRADE TO A ROOTED ANDROID L 12.4.0.59
1. On your PC replace the "recovery.img" in the zip file for Firmware 12.4.0.59 with TWRP recovery that you just downloaded. Both have the same name and it is a simple case of drag and drop into zip file.
2. Now you have 3 important file:
- The modified 12.4.0.59
- The TWRP recovery you downloaded (recovery.img)
- The beta Super SU 2.49
Copy all 3 file to the root of your sd card in your phone.
3. Install "Terminal Emulator" from Play Store, open the terminal and give it root permissions if needed.
4. Type su
5. Then type
Code:
dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery bs=4096; sync;
(you can copy paste to rule out any typing mistake)
6. After executing the command a number of bytes transfers and the results will display in terminal window. close the window and reboot into recovery as usual, except this time you have TWRP recovery instead of original Asus recovery.
7. Go to "Install" button and select the modified 12.4.0.59 from your sdcard, uncheck "zip file signature verification" then "add more zips" and select beta super su 2.49. zip as well, then swipe to confirm flash.
8. If everything goes according to plan your phone will be flashed with the new firmware and rooted at the same time.
9. Reboot and enjoy!
10. I tried this method on my phone and it all went smoothly, but in case you get errors, you have to figure it out yourself, I WONT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU! AGAIN BE CAUTIOUS, FOLLOW STEPS EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED AND PROCEED AT OWN RISK.

Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate: How to Root it.

ALL:
It has been a long time since I posted to this thread. Back then, the Samsung Exhilarate had just come out, and there was no way to root it. Thanks to several other members, most notably j3r3goss and shabbypenguin, I was able to get root on this phone. As of now, this post is very old. The instructions here, are not needed for you to root your Samsung Exhilarate anymore. You are free to read through them, but you should pay attention to the last page (currently page 3). There, j3r3goss posted a link to the the TWRP or CWM recovery files, that you can now use to get root, without following the step-by-step instructions I posted below. I'm leaving the thread up, but for all intents and purposes, consider it closed.
Here's the link to the section you need in order to root your phone:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=32520094
It has been fun, and I've been using my Exhilarate for nearly two years. Because I've been extremely busy, I haven't had time to keep up with the latest changes - but others have. I hope that you found these instructions useful.
In any case, take care and ROOT ON!
Everything past this point is old and no longer applicable
==========================================
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have UPDATED your phone to ICS, and want to root it, these instructions will work. You will not need to do the last part where you need to update the firmware keys!
Do you plan to update your phone from Gingerbread (Android 2.3) to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0). Do that first! Otherwise, you'll just have to root again (not that that's a problem, but why???)
I) How to update to ICS:
1) Download Samsung Kies from here: http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/ if you haven't already, and install it, and then run it
2) Put your phone into ODIN (Download mode - see section II below).
3) When Kies detects you phone (your computer will need to install drivers, and then Kies will say it's connecting to your phone, and it will take about 3-4 minutes and finally connect to it), it should let you know that there is an update. Just follow the instructions on Kies and be patient. The phone will update, and once it reboots into normal mode, you'll know it's updated by going to "Settings" and if they are grouped into different sections, then you have ICS. Otherwise, you probably still have GB.
II) How to enter ODIN Mode:
For the Exhilarate I've found it's best to use this sequence:
1) Power phone down
2) Plug the USB cable into your computer (do not plug the phone into the USB cable yet).
3) While pushing and holding both the vol up and vol down buttons, plug the phone into the computer. As soon as you see "SAMSUNG" flash and then dissappear, release the buttons.
4) Phone should boot into ODIN mode.
III) How to Root
What you need:
1) Samsung Galaxy Exhilarate phone (unrooted)
2) microSD Card (any size of 1GB or larger will work)
3) USB cable to connect your phone to your computer
4) Files below
First, download all the files...
1) Download the latest version of ODIN here: ODIN.
2) Download the drivers here: Samsung Galaxy Drivers and run the setup program after unzipping.
3) Download the tar file here: www.Shabbypenguin.com/OUDstuff/Blaze4G/Clockworkmod-Blaze-4G.tar Don't mess with it, just download it somewhere where you can find it later
4) Download SuperUser here: SuperUser Save it somewhere where you can find it later.
Second, conduct the root:
1) Put your phone into Odin (Download mode - see Section II above).
2) With phone in ODIN mode, run Odin.1.85.exe (it's in the folder where you unzipped ODIN too).
3) Odin will launch on your computer. It should show, in the first box under ID:COM, a port in yellow. Mine was Port 5. This means you have successfully connected to your phone.
4) Click the button in ODIN labeled "PDA", and then browse to the .tar file you downloaded above and then select "Open". The file will show up next to the PDA button.
5) Make sure that "Re-Partition" is NOT checked!;
6) Click "Start" and wait till your phone reboots. It should reboot into normal mode. If it doesn't, just power down and reboot into normal mode.
7) Copy the SuperUser.zip file you downloaded above to your phones microSD card.
8) Reboot the phone into recovery mode: While pushing and holding both the vol up and vol down buttons, push the power button. As soon as you see "SAMSUNG" flash, release the buttons. You shouldn't need to have the phone connected to the computer this time. The phone will boot into CWM recovery.
9) using either: the "menu" button to move down and the "home" button to move your selection up; or alternately the volume down button to move down, and the volume up button to move up: highlight "install zip from sdcard". Use the "search" button or power button to select/enter.
10) highlight "choose zip from sdcard" and press the "seach" button to select it.
11) browse to the directory which you copied SuperUser to and select it.
12) scroll down to "Yes - Install Superuser" and select it.
13) Once done, reboot your phone into normal operating mode.
14) If rooting Gingerbread, see Section IV below.
15) If rooting either Gingerbread or ICS, see section V below.
16) If having issues with Root, see section VI below.
IV) Rooting Gingerbread?:
Last: Finish up (Steps 1-4 are ONLY needed if you are still using GingerBread and not Ice Cream Sandwich):
NOTE: Your buttons (the four at the bottom) WILL NOT work at this point. You need to do the following:
======
1) Push your phone dialer as if you were going to make a call.
2) Dial *#*#2663#*#*.
3) You will see the attached thumbnail below on your phone (stolen from j3r3goss).
4) press the bottom button that says "Touch key FW update". Wait. Once it's finished, your bottom row of buttons will work again!
Note: If you are on GB, and not ICS, every time you boot into recovery and then back into operational mode, you will need to do the four steps in this section above!
======
V) Using either GB or ICS:
You do need to do these last steps (I believe):
5) ADDENDUM/UPDATE: At this point, there is one last thing you need to do!: You must go to "Settings/Applications/Development" and Enable USB Debugging! If you don't do this, you will NOT be able to get root access! Also, if for any reason you turn off USB Debugging, make sure you turn it back on! If you lose root access, check this FIRST! If you still can't get root access, boot into recovery mode and wipe the Dalvik Cache, the regular Cache, and "Fix Permissions". Then double check to make sure USB Debugging is ENABLED!
6) You're done! Your phone is now rooted and you can do whatever you want! :highfive:
VI) TROUBLESHOOTING:
If you run into problems
1) Check to make sure that SuperUser is installed on your phone. Check the apps section first, and then, use RootExplorer and check the System/bin folder. If you see SuperUser is in the system/bin folder, then you are very close to being rooted.
If it is not installed:
a) make sure that you copied the superuser.zip file to the EXTERNAL sdcard.
i) Boot the phone up normally
ii) plug the phone into your computer, pull the notification bar down, select USB connection, and tap the "Connect USB storage" button.
iii) Using Winbloze explorer, copy the SuperUser.zip to the external sdCard (on my computer, it is drive F:, and the Internal is drive G.
iv) disconnect once the copy is finished and use any file explorer on your phone to check the contents of the external sdCard (look in the "sdcard/external_sd" folder)
v) if it's not there, then you are doing something wrong. If it is there, shut down the phone, and boot into CWM recovery.
vi) Use CWM recovery to install the superuser.zip file on your phone.
vii) reboot into normal mode
viii) check to make sure that you have enabled USB Debugging
viii) check again to see if SuperUser is now in your apps, and in the system/bin folder.
ix) Run SuperUser 1x, and then close it out.
x) Run ANY app that requires Root Permissions. You should get a request from SuperUser to "Allow" or "Deny" the app root access. Make sure you allow root access. If you make a mistake, you'll need to launch superuser again and completely remove the app from the denied list.
2) Make sure USB Debugging is enabled.
3) if you still can't get root, boot into CWM Recovery, and try clearing the cache and the Dalvik cache, and resetting permissions, then reboot and check everything again. You may need to do this last step several times.
Beyond that, I don't know what else might be causing you to not gain root access, so keep trying.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to PM me.

Thanks for the write-up Black-wolf.
I wasn't aware that the touch key fw needed to be updated each time after booting recovery, hopefully that is something that will be fixed when Shabbypenguin gets his hands on the stock recovery.
Personally I find the easiest, works every time method to get into Download mode is to have the usb cable plugged into the pc, then while holding the volume up/down buttons, plug the cable into the phone, continue holding vol up/down buttons until download mode boots.

Yeah, I figured that out when I went to boot recovery to check something, and then came out of it and the keys weren't working again... :/ At least there's a work around. I suspect, that this is something that an automated app could handle if Shabby or someone else doesn't come up with a permanent fix.

Any update on getting the stock recovery? I blew through rooting my Exhilarate before I noticed the request for help or I would have offered.
The root seems to be working OK for me. JuiceDefender is working great with it to throttle the CPU clock speeds and has really improved my battery life. Also worked OK in blocking all the bloatware apps with the Gemini App Manager. So I don't really have a reason to unroot and go back to stock firmware, but it would be nice to have the option available should I ever hit a problem.
Thanks for all you guys hard work!

Dream_Killer: No, we have not gotten a stock recovery. I've had several inquiries into it, but so far as I know, Shabby has not been able to help out in this regard. I am willing to try myself, but I'll need an un-rooted (and it must never have been rooted) phone.

To get into stock recovery you...
1. open a command terminal on your computer.
2. type cd (where ever you have your ADB located on your computer) for example my is located in desktop/platform-tools so the command would be "cd desktop/platform-tools"
3. type "adb"
4. type "adb reboot recovery"
Presto you are in stock recovery.

We know how to boot into the stock recovery. What we need is to pull the stock recovery image off of the phone so that we can restore the phone to stock.
Btw.. pressing both volume keys while turning on the phone will get you there also.

I'm not exactly sure but it might be just as simple as replacing the audio libs on the blaze rom with the ones from the exhilarate. I'm not sure which files though.
I'm curious if by coming together (blaze and exhilarate users) if there would be enough interest to get official cm support. if the only major diff is audio they could basically support 2 devices for the price of one.

If i knew/or had the kno how, shoot id do it. Is there a program u need to change the libs?. This is a pretty sweet device.
i think you just need root explorer, and copy the new ones over the old ones. I'll look to see if i can find out which files need swapped. Should be able to make a zip to flash through CWM recovery.

Another words,im good, but not that good. If som1 held my hand thru it,i cud do it. Or just show me
NFC for Exhilarate!
All: rodracruz found a thread for enabling NFC on AT&T phones. Apparently, the Samsung Exhilarate does have NFC - but why the hell AT&T has it disabled, I have not idea... In any case, check out this thread and follow the instructions to enable it on your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1545751
There are even links as to some of the things you can do with NFC.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have anything to do with the audio lib files. More so most likely a kernel, modem, or APN problem.
Edit: not to mention the build.prop is completely written for the blaze. I'm working on some things. I'll let you guys know tonight. I wish there was source for this damn phone.

How to root Nubia Z5S

Hi,
I bought a ZTE Nubia Z5S. This phone obviously has some really nice spec. I bought it in China.
The phone itself looks great. Screen is wonderful. It's light. Not too big. So good so far...
I tried to root it of course, since Chinese phones don't like Google Apps. I found many tutorials in Chinese. I tried them with the help of Google Transleter, with no luck so far.
I found some English sites regarding it, but still no luck. I simply can not install the CWM recovery. Have no idea why...
If you want I can send you the links I found so far. But what I really need is help with this!
Thank you!
I bought the ZTE Nubia Z5S from China as well.
No chance for safe root yet, I guess. I've tried Kingo root, it has recognized the phone, but the root process has been unsuccessful.
VRoot might work better, but I don't dare to try it, being still considered malware. Other root solutions have been researched, no one looks useful.
A thread from the bbs.nubia.cn forum describes a Chinese recovery, no root required to flash it. Entering this recovery, there is a root option you can apply to your phone. I'm a nubia forum registered user, but unfortunately I can't get to the hidden download link without Chinese knowledge.
My plan is to wait for MIUI to publish the first Z5S ROM, including root instructions. I'll go the MIUI way.
I'd stay away from Google apps and Play Store, noticing I can live without them.
There are reliable alternatives and some manual sync/update work wont hurt me.

I rooted it with VRoot downloaded from a Chinese page, htcui.com. I managed to install CWM recovery witch is in Chinese, but found some pics, in a Spanish forum actually translated. I put on first a ROM from Needrom, but I did not like it. I read on forums that the ROM NubiaKing (htcui.com as well) is considered the best now. So I tried it out, but it has an installer in Chinese, (Aroma Installer) but with help from my Chinese knowing girlfriend a managed to install the ROM.
It is stable. Runs smoothly. The only problem I have with it, NO idea why, is that I can not sync my contact neither with Facebook, nor with Google+...
Interesting site htcui.com, haven't noticed it. The Spanish forum htcmania.com tells about installing Gapps as well. This should help you to sync contacts. Have you installed Gapps?
I was thinking to install just GoogleContactsSyncAdapter.apk from the Gapps package to get in sync with my Google account. No other Google apps, when possible.

Well no I haven't installed Gapps. The Play store was in the ROM already... That might be the problem, that I merely just downloaded the apps from Play store..? But I'm going to try out the .apk you suggested...
Hi Guys,
I´ve also bought a Z5s, but there went something wrong during the installation for the cwm recovery. Now the phone is stuck on the logo and I have only access to the stock recovery. Tried factory wipe, but that didnt change anything.
Is there a way to get into fastboot?
Tried some button combinations, but didnt make it.
As it is now, I cant get access from my computer and therefore cant add files on the sd-card to move on.
Thanks,
ruvimbo

Direct download: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1kT7HJrp
http://bbs.anzhi.com/thread-8711460-1-1.html shows the Z5S unbricking tutorial
If you can't access anzhi.com, please read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2522601.
There are 2 hidden links on this tutorial:
http://attachments.goapk.com/driver.zip?src=/forum/201401/12/1242132dduguu5s7siii5i.zip - it downloads driver.zip, a .rar file actually
http://pan.baidu.com/s/1c0b1tVq - password gt8v for the downloaded file, I haven't been able to download it, but I think this is the regular Z5S recovery.
Read carefully the tutorial and apply exactly the required steps.

Hi Guys,
thanks for all the help.
I have exams till Friday, if you want an excuse for my late reaction. :s
Unfortunatly I dont get an activation email to register for the nubia forum, but maybe I'll just have to wait a bit longer than a couple of minutes.
@mirecat: I'm afraid your link doesnt work, at least for me, altough I ran those two ominous .bat files.
After being done with those exams I'll try more and let you know.
You guys are awesome! :highfive:
ruvimbo
No idea why the bat files don't work, I haven't used them actually.
The most direct access to bbs.anzhi.com would be to simply use in browser one of the 2 IP addresses:
210.245.210.204
210.245.210.222
If you need to read the forum content more frequently, locate the hosts file in the C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc folder. Open hosts file with notepad and add the following 2 rows at the end, when they are missing:
210.245.210.204 bbs.anzhi.com
210.245.210.222 bbs.anzhi.com
Save the edited hosts file and you are good to go.
No reboot was needed for my computer.
Some words about bbs.anzhi.com - this looks to be the most active Chinese source for ZTE Nubia Z5S customization, the most ROMs and tools get published over there, IMHO. The forum is associated to one of the oldest and largest Chinese app stores AnZhi.com (formerly GoAPK.com). Google translates AnZhi as ING.
ZTE Nubia Z5S unbricking tutorial
I'm assuming is pretty difficult for the average user to read and use the Nubia Z5S unbricking tutorial from.http://bbs.anzhi.com/thread-8711460-1-1.html
Later edit: there is a more detailed unbricking tutorial at http://bbs.nubia.cn/thread-122309-1-1.html.
Therefore the below tutorial translated from the Anzhi forum. Please use it at your risk, I don't know Chinese and I haven't been able to test it myself.
Please add feedback to correct wrong instructions, when any.
Needed software:
driver.zip - direct download link, dunno if anybody can use it: http://bbs.anzhi.com/forum.php?mod=...zMGQ5NXwxMzkzMTQ5NzY5fDEzMDMyNTI4fDg3MTE0NjA=
z5s_Recovery.rar - direct download link: http://pan.baidu.com/s/1c0b1tVq Download password: gt8v
Driver.zip might be the ADB driver for Nubia Z5S, while z5s_Recovery.rar contains 2 recovery images:
- recovery_en.img for stock English recovery
- recovery_cn.img for the Chinese CWM recovery
Unbricking steps:
- unpack driver.zip, right click on autoexec.inf to install the driver on your PC
- make sure Nubia Z5S is turned-off and connect it to PC through USB
- unpack z5s_Recovery.rar on your PC and run recovery.bat
- recovery displays like in the attached image:
choice=1 Nubia Recovery - installs recovery_en.img
choice=2 Reboot Recovery
choice=3 CWM Recovery - installs recovery_cn.img
- choose 1, when you want the stock English recovery or 3 for the CWM recovery
- reboot into recovery mode and then select "mount USB storage" to mount the built-in storage, then copy the stock or preferred ROM into the mounted storage root
- flash the ROM from recovery

I've also vroot my z5s and disable services with Chinese descriptions. Now the phone is bricked, stuck on nubia boot logo.
The problem is that no usb access as slave device also on android recovery mode. I've try usb otg connection but I didn't find a way to mount or cd on external usb flash disk. The funny think is that I try usb keyboard, with otg cable, and the phone rebooted when I pressed Alt Ctrl Del on Android recovery screen...
When battery is flat it appears on usb devices but as HID device.
Αny recovery idea will be valuable!
Thanks
@gusbgr - try to use the unbricking tutorial from above.
Install CWM recovery giving you the USB mount option, then copy a stock or custom ROM to the phone memory and flash it.
Or maybe you could try to boot into stock recovery and run factory reset.

mirceat, thanks for your reply.
Connecting the phone on pc, a battery with an red exclamation mark appears on phone screen. Probably tries to charge but usb low current supply.
But phone it is not reachable and not visible on device manager (win XP), nor as unknown device.
The unbricking tool is stack after the "press any key to continue". Running the adb tools in a command prompt, returns :error: device not found.
I have the same issues as gusbgr.
Though I had some kind of reaction on another pc after plugging in the smartphone, the recovery switches (after pressing 3 or 1) instantly to the "press any key to continue" screen. Have to get on that computer again, maybe it needs more than one attempt.

[GUIDE] Rooting Xtreamer Wonder - Android media player

Xtreamer Wonder - Android media player
Rooting guide
DISCLAIMER
Everything you decide to do with your device is at your own risk.
I take no responsibility for any damage caused by any of your root-related activities.
Introduction
This guide will help you to gain root on your Xtreamer Wonder Android media player.
It has been tested and confirmed working on all firmwares currently available.
How it works
Rooting method takes advantage of amlogic system update facility that can be activated using
Reset button. Rooting package contains my special modified version of original recovery image that installs all the necessary root components during recovery boot.
Highlights
- easy to use
- low risk of bricking - possible to reset device whenever needed
- won't void warranty - unroot possible by simply resetting device
- won't wipe any system or user data
- won't replace original recovery
Requirements
USB stick/SD card formatted as fat32 (NTFS will not work).
In case procedure below fails try to use smaller USB stick/SD card up to 4GB.
Instructions
1) Download proper rooting ZIP package matching the version of Android system installed on your Wonder (Kitkat or Lollipop)
2) Extract ZIP package directly to the root of micro SD card/USB stick and insert micro SD card/USB stick back into Wonder.
3) Turn off Wonder and unplug power cable
4) Disconnect all other devices from USB ports (including airmouse receiver)
5) Use paper clip to push reset button located below Ethernet connector
6) Plug in power cable keeping reset button pressed until device boots into recovery; then release reset button
7) Recovery should show either "Wiping" or just a progress bar without text
DO NOT PANIC, NOTHING WILL ACTUALLY BE WIPED APART FROM CACHE
DO NOT INTERRUPT THE PROCESS.
Wait patiently for couple of minutes for the process to finish, Wonder will reboot automatically.
Next steps are necessary for older KitKat firmwares only. In Lollipop fw, SuperSU will be installed during rooting process automatically.
8) After reboot, use play store to install SuperSU by Chainfire
9) Open SuperSU and confirm to update su binary when asked (choosing Normal method)
In case rooting fails
Grab supersu.log from /data/local/tmp directory on Wonder filesystem and attach it within this thread.
In case your file manager app is unable to navigate to that directory, you can use terminal emulator app to cd to that
directory and use copy command to copy out the log to /sdcard where you can access it from file manager app.
Unrooting instructions
Flash original firmware following Xtreamer's standard firmware upgrade instructions.
This will wipe all user data!!!

Cool... many thanks for your work!

AFAIK, it's not currently possible as OpenELEC does not officially support AmLogic chips.
There are some ports for AmLogic here on XDA but not sure whether compatible with Wonder.
Btw, I have built custom clockworkmod recovery for Wonder so it would be possible to flash different system if people want to get adventurous It's currently experimental but I have successfully made a nandroid backup/restore test with it.

Yesterday xtreamer released a new firmware (see in the forums) and i could not resist to experiment a little bit, because i was now safe that i have something for recovery. So i took an Openelec build from Kerber (google for kerber openelec) for the 812 chipset and replaced the the wonder firmware and flashed the openeelec build. You simply need to exchange the zip file.
System is coming up and so far everything was working fine, network, moview, audio, however, and thats the reason why i have gone back to android, the air mouse control buttons are not properly mapped and after some time the system begins to stutter. But I assume this ws coming from pressing different buttons at once. I hope someone will do some reconfig for the airmouse.
Flashing back to the wonder firmware was not problem.
Thanks for your job. I've rooted my wonder but now Kodi doesn't work. How about?
I don't think root has anything to do with kodi working or not. My stock xbmc works just fine. What are the symptoms?
@c0ldsun
Thanks for sharing your experience. I was afraid of flashing openelec as the installation package also replaces bootloader which could brick device easily and prevent reset from working
The stock XBMC work fine but the new Kodi for HEVC video file doesn't open when i start it and stay on black screen

I had too many issues on Kodi 14 even before rooting. Lag, black screen which could be solved only with reboot. That's why I went back to stock XBMC.
Of course but stock XBMC doesn't read HEVC h265 file
Thx for the root image, works fine!
But I am unable to write to the external sd-card, I tried to fix the permissions.xml but it did not work.
("SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD" from Google Play Store can not solve the problem.)
Can you write to the external sd-card? Any idea for a fix?
I was thinking we can solve this kitkat limitation with root permission....
Thanks for your help!
Greeting,
Wille
Yeah, it's kind of weird. I couldn't make it work either. Seems like ext SD is mount read-only so permissions.xml fix is not enough. After doing some tests I found out I can only write to SD when I use terminal to issue:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /storage/external_storage/sdcard1
The same issue I experience in my custom built clockworkmod recovery. I can't make backups to external SD. I believe there's something at kernel level driver that makes SD card mounting always read-only.

Hi, where i cant get stock rom?
Any idea?

I don't know any other way to install gapp except using recovery.
Install recovery and find your phone gapp and flash using recovery
Hello guys, just wanted to let you know that after many hours of hard work I finally managed to get Google Play Services and root working. If anyone ever needs help with this particular model or any x86 based Android tablet/phone with unknown brand you can send me private message or answer in this thread. The problem with this type of devices is that no one makes custom recovery for them that's why I had to load a temporary one. Here is a link. By following the guide there you will get in recovery pretty much 99% of time. From there it's easy just flash SuperSU package and GApps. The best and only working x86 (Intel Processors) GApps with this version of CWM recovery are Franken GApps. You flash them and you are done. You now have working, licensed and usable tablet/phone! Screenshots below! :highfive:

Hey, I am sorry for the late response. I was away from XDA for a while.
1. To root I can't remember exactly, but there are a few ways I think. First, you can use Framaroot to root it or (recommended) you can directly push SuperSU package from the link I have given.
2. You download this GAPPS package. The download link is in the bottom of the post. You can also download a SuperSU package (ZIP) from here.
3. I see you have followed the instructions to some point. Here let me explain: First you connect your tablet with USB cable to the computer. Second you unzip the downloaded file and run the batch file. You then type "ACCEPT". Then you type "5" to run CWM recovery. Then you type "T4" to chose the forth option to load the recovery. This is basically a program that loads a recovery to your tablet without installing it. Your tablet should now reboot into CWM recovery. Be careful to not disconnect the tablet while you are performing operations since there is almost no way to recover from brick!
4. I guess you are at least a little familiar on how to work with recovery. In case you don't know: First - you very carefully navigate with the volume buttons up and down. You then go to install zip>from sd card>UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.65-20151226141550.zip. You then wait a second for the file to be flashed. You now have root. Second - you again navigate with volume buttons and go to install zip>from sd card>FrankenGApps-x86-20140826.zip. You again wait for a second. Now you will have successfully flashed GAPPS. You then very carefully navigate to reboot command and press the power button.
5. Tips:
- be very careful to not disconnect the tablet while flashing;
- backup any important information;
- ask me before you do anything which I have not described so you can be safe from bricking;
*In case the recovery says something like "Not enough space to install zip" or something similar, please, write in this thread so I can help you.
Good luck!

Hey, I am sorry for the late response. I was away from XDA for a while.
1. To root I can't remember exactly, but there are a few ways I think. First, you can use Framaroot to root it or (recommended) you can directly push SuperSU package from the link I have given.

Hello there,
Sorry for the off topic.
I also have the same tablet and I managed to do all the things listed above.
I was trying to update the Android on this thing by flashing a ROM of a very similar tablet (hardware-wise) and I semi bricked it but I managed to recover through the ECU shell(!). I have every partition in img using dd.
The thing is. Do you have any resources about a new ROM? I found the anzhen4_mrd7 source files on GitHub and I'm trying to build a CM build. Downloaded the source code etc.
If you want to collaborate send me a PM

Hello,
unfortunately I am not that good with Android. I don't know how to build ROMs etc., but I may learn one day. Sorry, but I can't help you.

[ROOT/RECOVERY]Working method for sm-t237p Sprint Variant 7" running 5.1.1

OK, after messing around for a bit, i was able to get root, and custom recovery working, and its actually pretty simple...
1. - Update to 5.1.1 via ota,
2. - Download Philz (CWM touch) Recovery and Beta SuperSU 2.64 (System-Less Root) (Pretty sure its in post #3).
3. - Copy the SuperSu .zip file to your sdcard on the Galaxy tab.
4. - Make sure you have the proper samsung drivers for download mode, and place you tablet in download mode by holding Vol-/Home/Power then pressing vol+ to continue.
5. - Connect you PC to the tablet using a suitable micro usb cable and use odin (I use version 3.10.7) and make sure you see you device under ID:COM.
6. - Click the AP button (PDA button in older versions), and browse to where you have the Philz recovery .tar file, and also select the options tab and deselect the auto reboot option.
7. - Click Start, and once you see pass, you can unplug your device from the computer, but do not just reboot the tablet normally just yet.
8. - Reboot the device to recovery by holding Vol+/Home/Power, and if all went well, you should be in philz recovery.
9. - Do a full system backup (warning you will need at least 4GB of storage available).
10. - Once backup completes, install zip from sdcard, and navigate to where you put the SuperSU 2.64 zip file, and flash it.
11. - Reboot Tablet, and from you PC extract the originally downloaded SuperSU 2.64 file on you PC, and navigate to the common directory on the extracted folder, and copy the superuser.apk file to your tablet.
12. - Make sure that you have Unknown Sources checked in the Device administration section of security settings so that you can install superuser.apk.
13. - Install superuser.apk and PROFIT!!!
If you have any questions, I'll try and fill in, i know that some of this write up is written with the expectation that you have knowledge of what you are doing, as i didn't explain in detail some actions necessary, but if you are rooting, and flashing recoveries, i assume you know what you are doing somewhat... With that being said i take no responsibility for any damage you may cause your device attempting this process, and i will not be replacing anyones device if you brick you tablet, your tablet catches on fire, or if your tablet turns into the devil and steals your soul. You are on your own...
But realistically this process was pretty easy, and i figured it all out just today, so i'm pretty sure you can do the same.
This is only a temporary solution for root, until a full kernel can be released, and we can fully root system, but for apps like titanium, es file explorer, and such (I haven't' tried debloating, you are on your own with that), this works... Once a custom kernel is developed (looks like @moonbutt74 is working that angle btw... ) you will definitely be able to debloat, and flash whatever you might want granted it is for this device...
EDIT** I forgot to mention this will trigger the KNOX counter, so if you don't care then continue as you would, pretty sure if you are looking to root, you don't care about the KNOX counter, and if you do, then maybe you should be looking into somehow writing a stock kernel that can be customized without triggering KNOX, slightly more advanced then what we are doing here... **
EDIT** Please give credit to the guy who "found it first" and should have done the write up but didn't**

Yes that is my phone in post 3, as i was the first outside of the team to have a rooted LG optimus G, thanks to TeamCodefire, shellnut2, JCase, AutoPrime, thecubed, and many more that contributed to the lg root evolution. If you have any questions about my integrity, you can ask any of them...
I cleaned the offensive posts and the user was infracted. At the OP, thanks for managing this appropriately and not escalating it to a flame war.
Back on topic please.
These steps are NOT needed... Once you complete step 10 and reboot SuperSU is installed and accessible...
This is only a temporary solution for root... Why?
And, the Kingroot and Super Sume method works sometimes to get root without tripping KNOX! This info I also posted in another thread...
This recovery/root method will work for mostly ALL Samsung and Nexus devices that have a working recovery... Thanks to Chainfire for his hard work!

Temporary solution is in the meaning of not fully rooted... This method is systemless, and if you want to make full init.d edits, i would not recommend using a systemless root option, as its kinda like a sudo root, for those that use linux, they will understand what i'm talking about. Yes you can allow root access to apps the request it, but as for full system modifications like the sound mixer, and init.d edits, i don't think i would go there, also not really sure if this will work with debloating, I'm not exactly sure about on samsung how it acts when you remove "system" apps (more so apps installed by default by samsung), I do know that one of the quickest ways to brick a lg is to remove system apps, and if you don't have an unlocked bootloader, as well as custom kernel, during boot, you get a kernel panic if system apps are removed, and in some cases has rendered the device unusable, (nothing an insurance claim couldn't fix tho... lol). Oh, and for the final steps, i actually did have to do them, I had no superuser app in my apps drawer, I attempted downloading from the playstore, and it was the wrong version SuperSU, and kept telling me i needed to update my binary. Then did steps 11-13, and all was nice in the world again, and no more nag about updating binaries, as well as it is the correct apk for the su binary that is flashed in step 10.

Here's the magic: mega(dot)nz/#F!ZkARSbRI!SV3kQ6jmsi9eGwHoRKPfew
(sry first post.. they have rules against posting web links directly.. replace (dot) with . and you should have your recovery file)
had to do a bit of digging myself. The other files should be easy to find via Google.

Just Read the posts before yours, the link is right there.
There's a reason posts are added and not just replaced with new ones. This is only a 2 paged thread, not hard at all to read it all.

Updated, but like bodyshop said... look up. No offense tho...
Thanks for this, however I can't get wifi to turn on. I saw mention in another thread about deleting wpa_supplicant.conf and using ODIN to upgrade to PF1 (could only find PH4 but it fails), but neither worked. Does anyone know of a fix?
