Moto G vs. Moto G Differences - Moto G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm about to order my second Moto G (16gb, US GSM) identical to the first one I pre-ordered. Unfortunately, my clumsy ass dropped my unprotected Moto G face first into the concrete cracking the screen. Not the G's fault...my stupid fault. My question is this: My first Moto G was from the first "batch" produced. Are there any minor differences between the first round of Moto G's released and currently shipping G's? Sometimes minor things will be tweaked from batch to batch like the display calibration or even very minor hardware changes from one vendor to another vendor. Just wondering if anything like that has happened that I should be aware of.

Nothing has changed really, you may get Sharp-made screen instead of the usual LG made one, but they both are good, so nothing to worry about.
Moto is using cheaper Hynix-made memory chips on the dual sim versions, instead of the usual Samsung ones which perform way better and less heat output.
Let's hope that these didn't make it to the 1032...
Other than that, everything else should be the same.

You seems to have one of the better versions of the XT1033, maybe a whole batch was made, no idea, but certainly there are ones with Hynix RAM chips.
The eMMC is made by Toshiba for all Moto G's that I've seen so far, altho they might have another suppliers for NAND flash storage.

Interesting thread..
My 1st pre order phone XT1033 16 GB had Toshiba+samsung ...
Now replacement phone have sandisk+hynix :x

There are also some visual changes. The battery cover on my 16gb from USA is more rubbery, a little brighter, moto logo is silver color and when the screen is off, u can see that is more yellow than 8gb from Tesco which is more black-dark blue(but only when is off, otherwise no difference when on).
So inside difference:
Tesco 8gb: eMMC 8gb Toshiba DRAM: 1024MB HYNIX S4
USA 16gb: eMMC 16gb Toshiba DRAM: 1024MB Samsung S4

Toshiba 16gb with hynix module. Can't complain.

Hey, Hynix-made chips are harmful? or is there any drawback in these chips? Please tell me man!! I am worried about my XT1033 as its having SanDisk eMMC and Hynix DRAM!!! If its not good then tell me asap so that I could get it exchanged from flipkart.

Interesting. My pre-order 16gb US GSM 'G' has Toshiba and Hynix. It'll be interesting to see if the components in my new phone are any different. If so, I'll duplicate everything on the new phone the best I can and see if it "feels" any different than the previous model as far as performance is concerned.

Try with:
su
dmesg|grep -i panel
in a terminal emulator if you are rooted. Paste output here.I'm not sure tho if that's gonna work or not, Android is weird OS.
The only viable way to me is disassemble and check on the back of the panel.
If someone else can help with a better way to retrieve who the manufacturer of the display panel is, speak up.

[Q] Could you recommend me a phone with these specs?

Hi, I'm trying to get a cellphone, between $100 - $175 dollars at the most but mostly with these specs, I don't need anything expensive right now, since this would be a gift:
RAM: 768 MB - 1GB
Processor: does not matter
Camera: 5MP at least
OS: Android
Could you recommend some models? I would appreciate the help, thank you!
I recommend you 1GB RAM, I have a galaxy ace 2 with 768mb of ram and you can notice the lack of ram.
Don't recommend samsung, makes a lot of models and left unupdated the old ones despite they are quite capable.
xiaomi red rice seems a good option although it seems a bit difficult to get nowadays. Jiayu phones are not bad and ZTE, zopo and THL W100 seems good options.
Hope this helps, may be if you had a list of the phones you are able to buy we cold help you more

I've looked these ones:
Lenovo A820
Huawei Ascen Y300
LG Optimus L5
Any idea? thanks for the suggestions!
My preferences are the order you wrote
The best option is Lenovo A820 : 1GB Ram, 8mp camera, better screen resolution
The other two only have 512mb Ram, and 5 mp camera. Huawei has better screen resolution than lg.
Hope this helps.

Well, Moto G must be above $200 dollars, which is not an option, this is a gift that I will give in the meantime, while this person does not get her new phone from the provider, and she needs one now; I did not know about the Xiaomi one, but the price exceeds the limit, thanks for the suggestions!

[Q] Should I buy Moto G 16GB? (S2 9100 user) (quad coe a7 vs dual core a9 @ same GHz)

Helo everyone! I'm between Nexus 4 and Moto G. BUT, I've been with no smartphone for half a year(sucks really hard). So, I'm thinking of buying a Moto G because the Nexus 4 is more expensive.
The thing is, is the Quad Core A7 cpu better or the same than a Dual Core A9 cpu at the SAME SPEED?(The S2 9100 has a 1,2GHz Dual Core A9)
Thanks guys!
The moto G is faster than the Galaxy S2. It's less powerful than a Nexus 4 because the Nexus 4 has twice the RAM though it comes close in some benchmarks because of the optimized ROM, nand storage filesystem, and CPU. In real world usage though an N4 will be much smoother and faster. Still the Moto G is a fine device. By the way, the Nexus 4 is no longer for sale. Perhaps you mean a Nexus 5? That kind of blows away a Moto G and most other smartphones. Though there is the price factor and the moto G is more than adequate.

Thanks for the reply! I meant Nexus 4. I'm from Greece and I can find it in some stores and also on Amazon and ebay.
How fast is CyanogenMod 11 on Moto G? Is the stock ROM faster than CM11 or at least the same? I like flahing ROMs and kernels(as everyone else ) so I wouldn't want the flashed ROM to be slower than the stock ROM.
I used to have a nexus 4
Other than the price also consider the battery, the moto g battery life is better than the nexus 4 in my opinion and experience. So if you buy the moto g, you save some money and get the must have accesories like the meenova microsd card you can expand you memory and also the flip shell from motorola so that you can wake your phone without using the power button.
I have played MC4 in the moto g and in the nexus 4, in the nexus is used to get very hot the whole phone but the moto g does not do that much or at least not as the nexus did, that game is pretty heavy but no difference with the nexus , about the ram I have not felt any significant difference maybe others but my experience it works very well. However if you are into video and photography then the nexus is much better than the g, so consider that as well.
Hope you get what you are looking for.
bye

I have had the N4, Moto G, and s2 (i9100). I like all of them but I find the s2 too slow for me. If the N4 and Moto G are the same price, I would pick the N4.
Right now, there are no custom ROMs for the Moto G based on CM11 or AOSP.

[Q] Oneplus Two or...?

Last year I bought a Moto G 1st gen.
At the beginning it was very fast and responsive but now my will is to throw it at the wall
I'm thinking on buying a new phone so I looked at oneplus 2 specs and I like them a lot (64gb rom, 4gb ram, 1.8GHz, fingertip reader...).
At this moment Oneplus 2 64gb version is priced with 399€.
So do you think I should buy it or there are better options for lower/same price?
Thanks
Well, the moto g should still be a pretty fast and good phone. Have you tried a factory reset and updating it to the latest Android version.

Upgrade Memory Device Nexus 5 16GB

I want the Nexus 5 has a larger memory, currently it only has 16GB. Too little
I understand there are two ways to upgrade the memory device :
1. Insert a Memory Card
2.Rather Chip Me 32-64-128Gb
What plan should I choose : 1 or 2
3. Buy 32GB version.

its 2016! still 16gb Wow!.... go for emcc chip 32gigs!
When changing the memory to 32 GB have i to do any system modifications, programming the chip ? or only replace the memory. [emoji54]
You would have to change the motherboad to increase the memory to 32 gb. You cannot replace the memory chip yourself.
Edit: I am wrong because it looks like you can replace the memory chip.
http://www.xda-developers.com/nexus-5-hardware-modded-to-64gb-internal-storage-by-replacing-emmc/
Actually you can... if you have some decent soldering / reflowing skills and can purchase a compatible 32GB eMMC... there's a thread or two around about a guy upgrading a 16gb one to 64gb (but had to do some partition manipulation etc because there's no offical 64gb version.)
I'd love to see how someone replaced the chip because those solder points are so fine. I could never find any threads where someone was successful. Also, I could not even find anyone that successfully replaced a damaged sim slot.
Edit: yup, looks like it can be done.

I need to study more, not as simple as I thought

24gb to be exact, once you start adding vr stuff the space quickly disappears, plus you can't move vr stuff to the sdcard which sucks.
You can always emulate the sdcard to work as the phone internal storage.

Regarding the VR, that shouldn't even be allowed as it completely trash our eyes and also affects our brain, causing headaches etc. It's nice to try out, not to use regularly.

I dont think 64 is better then a 32 because wit hthe nougat update you can push all apps to the sd card so get the 32gb and a fast sd card and you good to go.
