[Q] Screen not working - what could it be? - Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE

Hello,
I was using the Photon Q, closed the slider, wanted to reopen it - but the screen did not turn on anymore. It didn't fall down, no water accidently came into contact with the phone but the screen was off. However, the phone was still working (I was able to call it) and when guessing where the unlock button on the screen is, I got the vibrating feedback. So obviously, there's something wrong with the screen.
However, it's not the cable connecting the screen with the device (which would have been the worst case scenarion according to CornholioGSM).
Any other suggestions or would you just try to replace the screen?
Thanks!

Ah: It's not a backlight problem, this has been tested, too.
Cheers!

...when you slide out keyboard and then press any button screen wakes up?
If yes then test magnetic sensor - it is under space bar

Well... If I slide out the keyboard, the screen is instantly awake. I can feel it, as I can guess where the unlock button is and unlock the screen. Do you want me now to wait in order to let the screen go off again and then wake it up with a hardware button from the keyboard? And after that: how do you want me to test the magnetic sensor?
Thanks!

screen not really locked HD2 TMO and ...

HI,
Is there a way to really lock the phone from dialing last number? I mean,if I forgot to lock the phone and put the phone in my pocket. It dials my last number. Is there a way to prevent that besides remembering to lock the phone first.
Also, if its locked in my pocket, can the screen or buttons have a slighter delay from coming on to slide and unlock. I am trying to keep a longer battery life
Lastly, when I am on a call, and I press OK on the call and end up on the main menu while putting the phone back to my face, my face seems like it clicking on stuff. Is there a cab or tool to fix that so when you put the phone back to your face it does not start to engaged stuff.
Thanks

hi, is my question not valid? or am i not explaining it correctly?
1. I think it's easier to just remembering press the "hang up red button" before you put it in your pocket. It is that simple which you do not need an app for that.
2. By doing that will probably not save you much battery power imo.
3. There is a distance detector built-in right next to the battery charging indicator. Your screen is supposed to lock when you picked up a call and put the phone close to your face.
You can do a simple test just to cover the sensor or detector while you are on the phone with others. If your screen does not lock and goes completely blank, there is probably a problem with the sensor.
Hope these help.

[Q] Ulephone P6 Screen Unresponsive

Hi, I just purchased a brand new Ulephone P6 and noticed that the screen occasionally becomes unresponsive. I can press the power button but not anything else. The only solution I've found is to remove the battery and power it back on. This is a completely retarded fix for a brand new phone; dose anyone know of a solution?

it is the touchscreen's problem, you have to replace the screen.sir.
Well, I am not about to replace the digitizer for a brand new phone; but I did find an easier fix than pulling the battery out.
A few things I should have mentioned.
1) The unresponsive screen only occurs when the screen is activated via opening the flip case (gesture sensing)
2) I am using a GO Locker app but I haven't ruled out whether or not the unresponsive screen also occurs with the stock lock screen
Anyway, I just press the power button off and back on and the screen is responsive again.
Weird but it works for now; it is either something to do with the gesture sensing activation of the screen or the GO Locker app or maybe even a combination of the two together. If anyone has run into this problem let me know thanks. :good:

An app to turn off the screen WITHOUT locking.

Hi All,
I was hoping you guy might be able to help me out.
The LG G3 is awesome, i love being able to turn the screen on and off without using any buttons.
One bit that i think could use some work is that currently, when the screen is on, you can tap the notification bar twice to turn the screen off, however, i find that this doesnt work so well all the time.
I have Nova launcher and i wanted to link a two finger swipe gesture with an app to turn the screen off however...
All the apps on the store only seem to offer you the option to turn the screen off and lock the phone immediately at the same time. Does anyone know of an app that will let me turn the screen off, but NOT lock the phone immediately, and just leave the lock settings to the system defaults.
It seems pretty straight forward but i've tried about 30 apps on the store and all of them only screen off and lock, none allow you to do it without locking the phone immediately.
Any help would be really appreciated!

Thanks for the idea. I just tried and had no joy. It can trigger an action when i turn the screen off myself, but it wont turn the screen off for me.
Any other ideas?
I feel like this is so straight forward and that i'm just being super dense - im hoping someone points something so obvious and straight forward out that i missed!

You could try an app like Button Savior. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smart.swkey.nonroot
It has the option to swipe from the side to bring up the buttons, and from what I understand, the power button on it is exactly the same action as pressing the power button on your phone. You could tweak it to try and get it to the solution you want, but I think at least the button should be what you are looking for.

My phone seems to do the same action either way. I think I know what you are talking about. It seems that on previous roms, the screen could go dark, but if I woke the phone back up it wasn't actually locked. What about this app? It seems to distinguish between the two.

Tried both of the above... Neither seem to work!

I use "No Lock" when I want to switch off the phone but bypass lock settings when I turn it on. Is that what you mean?

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion... The problem with that app is that the phone won't lock until I go back in and disable it... I want the phone to use the same system timeout so if I do leave my phone lying around it will lock after 3 or 5 minutes on its own.

Take this.
Note: Needs Root
Not sure it it covers your needs, but I'm using SkipLock combined with Gravity Screen
SkipLock let's you bypass the lockscreen (and pincode) when your phone is connected to either a trusted WIFI network or a trusted BT-device (carkit!).
As soon as you get home you'll turn on your screen and you the lockscreen as usual, but from that point on it's lockscreen free until it disconnects with your wifi network.
So when you turn off the screen the screen goes black, but as soon as you turn it on again you'll see either the homescreen or your last opened app.
It works really GREAT!
Gravity screen is not needed but makes it even easier. It automatically turns your screen on when you pick up the phone, and turns it off when you place it down (configurable). It also features Pocket Mode so it will turn the screen off when you put it in your pocket and on again when you take it out. Worst part was getting used to NOT press the power-button anymore

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion - i just tried the app and it has a non-root version, but that just basically turns the screen black, leaves the notification bar and navi buttons and doesnt actuall replicate pressing the power button.
I cant root my phone either as i need to use banking apps and these dont work with root.
Any other ideas?

This sounds like a cool set of apps, but I'm quite pedantic about my phone and the way it uses battery and with all the sensors working. I'm not sure its right for me, but its cool none-the-less.

Skiplock doesn't use up any battery. Gravity MIGHT, but there are options to choose that use up more or less battery.
Don't know about needing root though...
Hi, I have been looking for this too....no solution? I use the trusted places and devices to keep my phone unlocked when i am home, and when in the car (connected to bluetooth) but of course turning off the screen also locks it.
SkipLock isn't compatible with my Lollipop G3 - any solutions that work on Lollipop? I've been using Tasker but somethings it messes up things a bit so I would like to try something else

Fingerprint to wake

Is it possible to wake up the phone by touching the fingerprint sensor? On other phones (e.g. nexus 5x or honor 8)
it is very nice because it is very quickly and you don't have to push the home button or power button.
It must be possible to do it on galaxy s6?!
Download always on amoled and turn off clock in app settings. Minimal battery drain.
Thx, but 10 % accu drain per hour is not good.
when you take a phone, press middle button, a phone turns on and unlock, what's wrong with that? maybe you press twice?
That's it. I don't want to press twice. On other phones it is possible without pressing.

you don't need to press twice, press once and keep finger for +1s, phone turns on and unlocks.
I don't want to press anything. Just put my finger on the fingerprint. I understand... It isn't possible.
is your phone rooted? install macrodroid and find macro template called Ultimate Jedi Handwave. also in macrodroid settings go to trigger options / proximity sensor trigger and tick Work With Screen Off.
now you don't even have to touch you phone, just do a Jedi handwave over your phone and screen will turn on to the lockscreen. if no lock you get to homescreen just by waving over phone. pretty neat. proximity sensor triger with screen off will drain some battery, but a little playing with macro's and you can set phone to go to battery saver on when screen is off and vice versa.
will post photos later today.
Isn't rooted. Hand wave over the phone is allready possible by stock rom. I don't like it.
Sounds like you already know what you want isn't possible on stock, I do agree having it on the nexus's is nice but given this fingerprint reader is now 2 years old there's not anything that can be done via stock. I'm pretty sure if rumors are to be correct the S8 will have this functionality though
Damn... I thought it would be possible with an app or something else. Maybe with an Nougat Update?! It is only a software problem, isn't it?!

Proximity sensor

Good morning, i have a Note 20 Ultra exynos version and when i test the proximity sensor i have no response. It's possible ??
Thanks
yes, it is implemented differently. it works fine with apps that support it
What do you mean by "test"?
When you're on a phone call it should turn off the screen if you cover the sensor.
No if i cover the entire note the screen is always on.

Using the mic not in speaker phone mode?
If so it sounds like it's not working... phone screen should go dark when it's against your face on a call.
Try clearing the system cache on the boot menu, this may fix it.
Try it in safe mode for the off chance a 3rd party is the cause.
When i try with a call it seems to work but after two or three attempts the screen remain on also if i close the cover..

Not sure but that sounds like software.
You said cover as in a wallet case?
There may be a setting for that but if so I have no clue.
Doesn't sound like a normal operation unless it's a Samsung case and it's suppose to do that.
Don't think there's even a visible specific system apk for it. You could try clearing the Android Systems cache maybe data too but that may cause more trouble with lost settings... and end up worse off for the trouble.
On the note 10+ a small faint blinking circle is visible about a quarter inch to the right of the front cam cut out when the proximity sensor is active. Not flashing, not active.
If that helps you any...
Note: if it's active during a call and I trip it 2-4 times with a second or two spacing, the screen will remain off until I turn it back on.
This is normal operation.
Ok thaks a lot for your explanation..
I'm having the same issue which started today. Every time I put the phone up to my ear to place/ receive calls the proximity sensor isn't working and I'm pressing all random buttons accidentally with my cheek. I've turned my phone on and off to try to get it to work and no dice. It was working fine before today so I'm not sure what happened. I didn't drop my phone or anything. A google search showed this has been a problem since the S10 when Samsung embedded the sensor under the screen and dropped to turn on/ off this feature under call settings.
Advice anyone?
Try in safe mode. If it works there it's most likely a 3rd party app.
Was -anything- updated or just installed?
Did you change any settings?
Try a "hard" reboot and clear System Cache in boot menu.

No! Not a hard reset!
Hard reboot simulates pulling the battery...
I think I got it to work again. Hard reboot I guess according to google is pressing the “Volume down” and Power / lock key for 10 to 20 seconds bypassing the options shown on the screen until the phone turns off by itself. I then pressed the volume up key and the power/ lock key until the android recovery menu came up on the screen. I then chose "wipe cache Partition" and rebooted the phone after that.
It seems to be working again and hope this helps anyone who starts encountering this problem like I did.

Clearing the System cache can fix a lot of Android voodoo gremlins. I clear mine regularly or if the Android is acting erratically.
Hello
I am the owner of a Note 20 Ultra starting today.
I previously had a Note 10 Plus, where the proximity sensor showed as a blinking white light near the front camera.
At Note 20 Ultra there is no sign of its presence, no blinking light. Is this normal? Can the real owners check and confirm?
I also checked with secret codes:
Using *#0*# and selecting Sensor opens a menu where I cant find any proximity sensor
Using *#77692# opens a window with proximity and light sensor; for proximity sensor I turn on and wave my hand over the front camera area, it vibrates and turns display green each time, but after several attempts (7-8) it stops working.
So, is this normal? It has a new algorithm or type of sensor?
Please check and confirm.
Thank you

Its possible that there is no sensor, I have not done any research on this but it is possible to use front camera as proximity sensor. It would mean that the function would activate when you are on call and not on loudspeaker, it should not be tough to implement.
It has a discreet proximity sensor...

I have seen this article but it is useful only to locate the proximity sensor. But regarding how it is actually working, there are no details.
I was expecting something similar with Note 10 Plus but there was no blinking led/pixel to be found when having a call.
And honestly, I am not very impressed with its functioning. When using phone on left ear especially it skips activating many times.
Also, during a call (normally not on speaker), when I cover the top of the phone with my hand, the screen does not go black instantly (I must keep it covered about 3-4 seconds) but if I puck up the phone to my ear it seems to activate, which makes me think it has an algorythm that includes other sensors like gyroscope. Or maybe my proximity sensor is faulty... but as I said, if I test it with proper code, it seems to be present and work.... Which makes me thing it is a software problem.
So, I come back to my previous details and kindly ask other Note 20 Ultra users to replicate similar behaviour.
Thank you
My note 20 Ultra sensor works fine if the speaker is off. Turn the speaker on and the proximity sensor is disabled.
Try using this code in dialer.
*#77692# and then turn proximity sensor on and put hand over top part if it lits up green then it's working as it should. But if it remains white and nothing happens then there is an issue with sensor.
