try out textra or chompsms.Textra is a really good sms app however, I'm not so sure if it supports dual sim or whatnot.
I've been using textra ever since it was a week old. Its amazing.

I like very much Go Sms Pro.
please but textra has possibility personalize notifications by contact name? and emoticons supports? can anyone test? thanks
I've been using EvolveSMS since I first found it, moved instantly from Hangouts.
Textra is the best low weight SMS app. Nothing of what the developer says is exaggerated. It is seriously beautiful and puts OEM messaging apps to shame, works well with a small system footprint. Actually all we need.
EvolveSMS is slick, sliding sms app and more customizable. Probably it is slightly better for those who still send MSM.
Go SMS Pro is a fat and heavy pig that sends ads and sell add-ons. I guess that is fully ok for most kids as long as one can change the font, insert stickers and add angry birds theme. But it seems it the only 3. party sms app which supports dual Sim phones. Buhhh ...
I love handscent SMS is one of the best with customizable skins and does take a lot of resources like Go SMS Pro would

I have recently got the X10i after yrs of a N95 ( sorry ), am doing my best to like the phone and am giving it every chance. I have lurked on this site and last week I rooted the phone and made it more personnal for me, thanks to the developers and those who provide the info for rooting.
I quickly removed the moxier stuff and also the messaging app but I am having issues with handcent sms, I wanted it for group/bulk texting tbh but it seems I have to restart the phone to get it to send a text to a group which has got 18 recipients.
Once the phone has started up I can send a group text no probs but the second group text will send to 1 or 2 of my contacts but the rest then fail, so I then restart the phone and resend the text and they get delivered, I have tried chompsms, grouptext and groupui, but each one gives me the same problem.
Has anybody got any ideas or another app I could try to resolve this issue ?
maybe it could be that the sms apps you use need (or work thanks) the main messaging app which were installed on the phone, the one you uninstalled.

I dont think it is that to be honest, I think it is more to do with the amount of contacts in the list, so I am hopeful that somebody confirms this and also gives me a better option.

Actually this could be true, as you should not remove core system applications, such as messaging.
so, you can try resetting your phone using Update Service software on your pc. I tried searching for an SMS app in my mobile folder to share with you, but there are several files that may be connected togheter, about messaging, and I am not able to choose the right one (or ones) to share.
I just upgraded from a Razr 2 to an Artix 4G (stop your laughing, my son made fun of me enough for everyone).
I noticed that when composing a text message I cannot pull down my contact list to select recipients. I.E. I wanted to send an announcement to multiple recipients but it seems that I must know who and cannot browse my contacts. With the Razr you could go into your contacts and select multiple recipients. I see that if I start typing in the recipients for text a list from my contacts shows, but that is only contacts associated with the what I type, no the entire contact list. Anyone know of a fix or mod for this?

You are talking about trying to message entire groups of people? I use Handcent SMS to do my texting bidding. I believe it can do individual and group texting with the application. It is a lot better than the stock messaging app trust me. Go download it, it is completely free you will not be disappointed.
Oh and this is for Atrix 2 users, the Atrig 4G has its own forum with a ton of stuff in there. Enjoy!
You wont see it like that, just enter the first letter of a recipients name in the box and a list of contacts who's name starts with that letter will pop up, pick the one you want. Once you select you can repeat the steps as needed to get all the recipients added. Or you can use Handcent/Go Sms Pro.

Thanks for the info, and thanks for the forum notification. I just started here and am still learning.
There are several alternatives to the native text messaging app installed on the market. I for one use GoSMS Pro, just try a few until you find one that suits your needs and hood luck on your new device

Same here. I used Handcent for a while but wanted something different and Go SMS Pro is a nice replacement. I love how customizable it is, it even has a native theme creator. So far I've used Go Launcher and Go SMS Pro, they make good stuff.

I was just wondering if we will be able to ever get true group messaging like the setting applies within the messaging app. One feature I liked in the iphone (I think iOS5) was when I have a group convo with someone all of the messages from the different people will appear in the same thread. In the Galaxy S 3 it sends it out as a group message but when I receieve the message it goes into its own separate thread and not just that I would only get the text from the person that started the group message. Is this a simple glitch or is the whole option just really misleading?

Exactly! which is why im just hoping an update comes soon! (even though Verizon sucks when it comes to that) or at least a modder finds a way to fix this problem if thats even possible that is
I use GoSMS, works great, not as clean interface as standard messaging app but having a MMS is more imporatnt to me.
VZ Messages
I use the VZ Messages app from the Play store (free). It works perfectly and has pop-ups. It seemed to work much better with group SMS than GoSMS did.
Definitely check out groupme. www.groupme.com and the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNvbS5ncm91cG1lLmFuZHJvaWQiXQ..
It lets people with dumb phones get in on the action. Everybody texts once central number, and texts are redistributed from the same number to everybody else and includes the name of the sender (which you can assign...pretty fun)
Downside being that people have to accept the group and add this number to contacts as "Bros" or whatever you want it to be. Couldn't be more effective for my needs though.

Does it work for MMS as well? I couldn't see where it said one way or another on their website.

I'm in 2 group texts with 5 in each. I get on average of 60+ texts a day and the damn program LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGS. I would love an alternative.

I don't like Groupme because it is a different phone number. I do however like the interface.
I use go sms but it doesn't group real well, I always assumed it was the way they responded. maybe I'll check out be messenger.

I hate the iphone (well all apple products really) but the one thing it did right was the iMessenger.
So I have been looking for a 3rd party messenger app that will do a few things that the stock android messengers wont do.
Main featute would be MMS over wifi
Also delivery and read report system
Ability to start and LEAVE group messages. The stock has no way of leaving group messages and I ended up having to block 19 numbers one time.
But most importantly I am looking for an app that will take advantage of these features when the recipient has the same app... but if the recipient does not have the same app it will default to standard. Kinda like imessenger does.
For example
Conversation with person A using the same app
I will recieve delivery and read reports. A typing icon when they reply. And I can send that person images over wifi
Conversation with person B using stock app will still send sms as normal but no read or delivery.. no typing icon.. and mms will default back to network.
Basically I have found apps that do what I want such as WhatsApp for example.. but I can only message people who havw the same app. The biggest problem I run intonwith 3rd party apps os getting everyone to switch over. No kne wants to swap over of they are comfortable with their current app.. I wamt to be able to text those who dont want to switch as well as those who do switch.
I tried searching for this but it's so specific and I'm quite possibly using the wrong terms.
Let both of my LG G3 update to Android 6.0 (D85030p) and the default SMS messenger has stopped working with my text banking and retirement balance texts.
They will send and receive texts from other people but not these 6 digit numbers. No response from either one even trying to re-register the phone with each institution.
Google Messenger works just fine but lacks the only feature I like about the default G3 SMS, the ability to lock/keep a reply from being deleted. Even when deleting an entire conversation, the locked replies within are saved. That is the only feature I am missing.
Can anyone recommend another SMS app that has this feature or maybe there is a setting somewhere with the default SMS that I'm just not seeing ?
There are a million SMS apps in the play store and trying to read each one for details gets old after about 20 minutes. Hopefully there is a fix or another app that has this feature that someone here knows about.
Thank you.
Guess I'll answer my own question.
The Verizon messaging app has the features I'm looking for.
