[Q] Using Odin in Ubuntu - General Questions and Answers

First of all, Hi guys  This is my first post.Hope you would help me.
So I have got a galaxy chat b5330 phone.I was searching for a working method to root my phone.
I think I have found one method, it requires me to 1. copy a .zip file on sdcard 2.go to download mode 3.from odin, click PDA and select a recovery.tar.md5 file.
I am using Ubuntu and Sadly :crying: :crying: :crying: :crying: Odin(via Wine) is not recognising my phone in download mode. :crying: :crying: :crying:
Then I tried JOdin, but even more sadly, it says that it needs newer version of java.So i got java. But it stll says I need newer version of java. :crying:
Then I got Heimdall, but it's totally different than Odin. :crying:
Please tell me what to do so that Odin will detect my phone.
Or how can I do the same via heimdall(frontend).
I am not going to get M$ crapware just for rooting my phone.Whatever I do, I'll do it on My Ubuntu PC(I can use some other *nux or BSD).
BTW the tutorial I'm following is similar to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2107029 , actually
www.youtube.com/watch?v=HZ9P5cVS35w
EDIT:- I have somehow got JOdin3 working, but the **F Reset Time** option is grayed out.Can you tell how to get the option back?

[Q] Samsung Galaxy Mini doesn't run HELP !!!!

Hi.
My friend tried to install rom for Samsung Galaxy Mini. At the middle of installation the phone turned off and the phone doesn't want to run at all.
What is the problem?
My brother tried to flash his own and the phone doesn't restarts anymore.
It only does a small and quick screen flash, repeatly.
I can set it to download mode, and ODIN software connects OK, but reflahsing does not resolve the problem.
Help needed also.
PS: Sorry for my english.
I am going to check this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1107331 tons of information!
Maybe reflashing with other recoveries solve something.
Its a half-brick
pls go on download mod. and reinstall new firmware,

[Q] Need Help With Fido SGH-1747M Restore

Hey Guys,
So I tried to root my phone with file CF-Root-SGS3-v6.3 and it failed. Not sure if it is because it is a 1747m but anyway I am totally annoyed now.
Then my phone says "Firmware uprgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again"
So Kies does not see the phone, which seems to be a common issue with this when trying to root. I did try downloading the Rogers firmware file
for 1747m but it comes it a zip form which ODIN won't accept. I can't find any other files since Hotfile.com was taken down.
I guess my problem is that I have zip files but only .rar files will work. Any ideas to help me out would be great since my phone is currently useless to me.
With that said, I still can access the download screen.
Thanks
Vince

Anyone please .....
What can I do is there a way to restore the boot process. Any help is appreciated
Sorry I can't help. I have somewhat of a similar issue. Please help...
Here is my issue...
Hello. I have a problem and a question. My problem is that I can't startup my Samsung Galaxy S3. It says the partition is corrupt. I can't boot into any recovery mode, except Odin Mode. I have never rooted my S3 before, but I would like to use Mobile Odin to flash my phone to get it running again. One problem, I don't have access to a computer, but I do have access to another Android device. Is there a way to flash my S3 from a different Android device using Mobile Odin, or any program at all. Or can I run some sort of program from my SD card? I need my S3 back up and running?
Thanks.

[Completed] s4 rooting issues (soft bricked?)

so, i was trying to root a verizon s4, there seem to be plenty of ways to do this.
i have odin 3.7 and 3.9 on my pc running windows 10(neither version fight with another)
anyway, i received a s4 that could not open the os. so i opted to try a root install. i opened odin 3.9 and dled a root rom for what i hoped was the right build... it failed.. ( yes i put the phone in to DL mode)
so, i DLed a different one, that failed to..
tried a third time, fail.
at this time after rebooting the phone, the screen tells me that "your device didnt update successfully. use the verizon repair assistant on a computer to repair your device and complete the update."
i DLed the windows version of verizons repair tool for samsung (i hope the right one, not sure as i had to search hard for it).
i ran the repair.. it spent an hr DLing, then started the repair. gets to 80% then fails.
i have tried this several times.. even restated my computer.
i cannot boot to recovery to reset to factory, which by the way was the first thing tried, but i can boot to DL mode.
i have read so many different things now, and tried different things that i am getting tunnel vision and cant focus anymore.. i need help please!
update
so i managed to get the phone working to boot the os by resetting the phone with a PIT file via odin.. i believe the build is of1? or something of that nature.. now just need to look int to rooting for that.

Greetings and welcome to assist. Glad you fixed your issue, flashing a pit file normally fixes issues like yours. There are a few videos here which should help you with your root

Please Help - soft bricked S7 on 3 (UK) SM-G930F

Hi guys,
I have managed to soft brick my S7 flat after trying to root it. using odin. I have also done a factory reset - so no more debugging over the PC, I have to now try recovery on SD card.
The stock rom I have is G930FXXU1DQB7
I can't seem to find a stock rom to put onto the SD card and reinstall the rom ... I think samobile and another site seem to be the only ones that has the stock ROM and there d/l are terrible and often get a corrupted file ( I have tried x4 times now )
If some one could tell me how to either - Put a custom ROM on a stock S7 ( No TWERP on the phone yet ) .. or how to recover my S7 back to manufacturers ... Id buy you a virtual beer ! Had my phone for about 2 weeks and already I cant use it !!
The following thread has the stock firmware uploaded to Mega, so should be easier and more reliable to download:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s7/how-to/official-stock-firmware-update-odin-t3369431
Don't forget to thank the author of the thread if you find it helpful.
thx, ill give it a go

You need ODIN 3.12.3 from here
https://mega.nz/#!uBwC3KqR!17OPP5A1g9d7-GxAqCbjXFpmYfO7CgAHNcaZxqEkOao
You need the latest G930F ROM from either here
http://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?q=G930F
Or from samfirm tool here
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/general/tool-samfirm-samsung-firmware-t2988647
Extract the ROM, add AP, CP, CSC and BL to the 4 sections in ODIN
Put the phone into download mode (Volume Down & Home & Power)
Connect phone to PC USB, make sure the port is connected on ODIN
Press Start on ODIN
Wait for it to reboot back into working Android
thx for your comments, but I cant use odin as I have hard reset the phone ! - so no ADB via usb
I will try the links though ..
The phone does go into d/l mode ... but as I have hard reset to factory I need to go back into the phone and go into dev. options and enable debugging. .. trouble is The phone just boots to the logo and then loops.

What has ADB got to do with ODIN?
You just need download mode, nothing more
Every step I wrote is all you need to follow

Ive managed to fix it ! - I downloaded a good stock rom and uploaded like you guys said ... with Odin ... I had to mess abouit with Odin versions before I got one that worked.
Many thanks guys for all your help. I really had a panic on then for a bit !
