battery drain - Samsung Galaxy SL i9003

hi i have the usual problem with my samsung galaxy S i9003: my battery drains extremely quickly. on the battery usage it shows that the display is what is draining my battry the most, but the problem is, it is on its lowest. i just don't know what to do, i wiped the battery stats, i downloaded lots of programs to save battery, i removed the google backup transport apk, i don't use wifi, 3g, gps, bluetooth, i don't play games, i really don't know what else to do.
so please, help me.
i bought the phone from another person, so it's been already used.
i'm on gingerbread DDLF2, i'm rooted and have already tried a few roms but had the same problem, if you know of good, stable, smooth and for daily use rom please let me know.
ps: my phone doesn't show real battery stats, what i mean is, when the phone is on 30% it just shuts off, and when i plug it and turn it on, it shows 0%. it has happened since the day i got it.
ps2: i don't know if this matters but, i soft-bricked my phone like two weeks ago trying to restore the stock rom from a remics rom, and flashed the stock rom to get it back.
the battery drain problem has been there since before but i just wanted to put it out there to see if it helps.

can you tell me for how many hours your battery lasts after fully charged.
battery usage also depends on cpu usage ( like if u have set your processor limits to high ) or may be because you have lots of apps running in the background. you can try installing watchdog application to trace whose eating up your battery

I experienced battery drain too on GB ROM. I guess that newer apps are using android functions that are not coded very efficiently on GB.
I was surprised that battery life got much better after flashin to 4.4 kitkat. If you want to give it a try, I definitely recommend trying out flashing your device and see whether battery life improves

yes.... can try out different rom or some other kernels too. and try changing processor to some battery friendly mode like " conservative " or tweak the default processor to save battery.
and try out greenify app if you are not using. @luligorla

my battery last for about three or four hours if not less. i'll try downloading that app, but anyway the problem here is that in battery usage in shows that display is what is spending the battery the most, when it is on its lowest, i just don't get it.

i'm rooted, indeed, but it seems i'm not finding that application or if i have to download one. i downloaded whatdog and the only alert i got was about the gallery using the cpu.
what i'm worried about is that the display is literally on 0%, isn't it weird?
i tried flashing 2 different roms and with both the battery drained just the same. if you know about any stable, smooth and for daily use rom please let me know!

You need to install a better app. The Android built in power usage thing is about as much use as a chocolate teapot, and better battery stats isn't much better.
Try system panel from Play, you will need the paid version from here. Put it in monitoring mode and leave it for a few hours.
You will be able to see what is chewing CPU then, and that is invariably the thing that is causing the drain. It very rarely fails to assist me with diagnosis of an obscure drain issue.
Ok..just bought system panel app.will update about this crazy battery drain later..
Thanks thalamus..

Cool, it's well worth the couple of dollars.
I've used it pretty much constantly in monitoring mode since they were in beta when I had my desire. So, probably not far off a couple of years usage with me.
It doesn't eat battery either, because it polls when the device wakes up for another reason.
And the thing which really makes it good for me, it records usage of the system tasks, such as kernel threads, which can be massively handy in diagnosing an issue.
Solved by flashing latest adamG ROM..
Thanks adam and thalamus..haha..enjoyed my nexus s back...

[Q] Help !!!! ICS ? GPS? BATTERY

Hi guys , a new noob here out in this forum and I ve got to say thanks
for XDA, it helped me solve lot of problems
I got my sensation 2 months back and i am new to android, this is my
first android.
Well I have some few question that are unresolved so I am posting about
this .
First thing is universal problem - the battery , well on standby its
lasting like 14 hrs - wats your standby time?? and if I play games it lasts 5 hrs max .. is this normal?
But from the past 2 days on stand by my battery
is draining out like anything its lasting only 3-4 hrs on standyby - any
ideas on y this is happening or any app to monitor which app is
draining out my battery , I restarted like 10-15 times but still the
same
Shall i update to ICS (official update), i ve heard lot of pros and cons , I am from
India any suggestion whether to go or not
Gps isnt working without Internet Connection , I have saved offline
google maps but that aint working , any help on this one
Camera lags a bit . usually have to wait 4 seconds to get the picture clarity
EDIT : My sensation came with 8gb memory card and it has lot of memory occupied and i dono for what (like in .data ,.android_secure folders etc) . I want to use 16gb memory card . should i copy all the data which my card contains? like after factory set my card occupies around 3-4gb should i copy all that data
I would be happy to see my queries resolved here .:fingers-crossed:..
THANK YOU XDA :good:
Upgrade to ICS
then check gps and camera issue that you are having
as you are on GingerBread SOFF will be easy for you
here follow this guide to the letter ..starting from SOFF
(even though guide explains flashing ARHD rom ...the procedure can be applied to any rom )
Also change out stock battery for a extended battery.Anker makes a great extended battery and it's about ten dollars . Mugen also makes a great battery, the 3800mah is the one I got and can get two days with heavy use out of the battery.but most people prefer Anker as it is much more affordable where the mugen is 95 dollars. But either way a extended battery will benefit you greatly. You can find Anker online from amazon. You will not regret changing to a extended life battery, it will make a great difference for you!
sent from HTC sensation, soff, 3.33 firmware, viper Rom, sense 4.1, kernel version PYD-X stable 3.1, mugen battery 3800mah. Please press thanks if I helped in anyway.

For the battery issue. My suggestion would be that have a deep look around in Google Play. There are some good applications you can use to find out what drains your battery. As you mentioned your device is 2 month old so I doubt it was a hardware issue. I assume it is an application related problem. Something might run in the background. You can also try to remove the battery for couple of minutes, then put it back, power up your device and see if the problem still exists. In worst case scenario you could do a factory reset. That will put your device back to the original, factory state. Remember to backup your messages, phonebook... etc. before proceed! I hope your issue will be solved!

Thanks buddy ... I dont want to reset . I ve got like 120 apps which i cant reinstall again very difficult. searched play store there are some apps but they are jus showing statistics instead of showing which app consumed my batttery..
How about going to settings and check the battery use there? That should tell you as well what consume the battery. Give it a try! And I think Google Play should backup all your apps, so when you reset your phone then go to Google Play it should reinstall all your apps again. But I am not 100% sure about that. If your device was rooted you could use Titanium Backup for this. 120 apps??!! Maybe it's just me who using 15-20... all CM based roms shoud have in settings development a thing to activate to show you CPU usage, if you tick that option, CPU usage(frequency) it will be shown on home screen in a little widget
or use CPUSpy
if battery drains fast it is because of various problems, wifi, apps that runs in background and prevent deepsleep and causes wakelocks, but CPUSpy it will list all hungry apps and all CPU usage
cpu frequency cannot be set over 600 with stock kernel, but it can be changed with some apps like SetCPU or CPUMaster (root required), this apps have profiles for different situations (screen off, charging, gaming, music, talking, net surfing etc), if I remember SetCPU can be found here on XDA free, search it

Thanks, but in this rom there is one feature called 'performance control' and it shows exactly what cpu spy shows.I have used cpu spy and it does not show hungry apps, maybe it is cpu spy plus.
I AM CHECKING REGULARLY AND MY PHONE IS NOT GOING INTO DEEP SLEEP AT ALL EVEN WHEN SCREEN OFF.
And i have installed only whatsapp and titanium. My battery was at 80% when it freezed and when i took the battery out and restarted it battery was at 40%.
And i am concerned about the minimum frequency which is 320 in this,it can be changed to 122 which is not being used coz of the default settings.I s it safe to do?
with stock kernel any freqv is stable, but it will not help, something is preventing deepsleep, uninstall some apps that you suspect that can do this problem, search web abouth apps that you have installed on your phone, or read pacman thread or change kernel, I do not think a custom rom runs well with LG stock kernel, and when you flash a custom rom that rom comes with a custom kernel, try DJNOxD or sweetnsour 2.6 kernels
change governor and test it, maybe it will help, I allways use smartass governor but search forum for governors preventing deepsleep

I think my phone is not going into deep sleep and it is coz of the minimum frequency which is 320.

Yeah i have already installed betterbattery stats, lets see.Don't if i will be able to understand what it shows, set it to partial wakelock though.Pac Rom thread is not responding since three days,i mean no reply no help as yet.
Tomorrow i will do to things, one is remove this rom and have another & second is to remove the gapps as well and reflash.I do not know how to this. Then i will know if rom was responsible for this or not and decide for the kernel therafter.
Should i make new thread for that or you will tell here only?
or you can change rom if you do not solve the problem

oh, sry, I'am a big NOOB, all JB 4.2.2 are using 3.0.8 kernels that have big problems with wifi battery drain, it is a common problem with all JB roms, disable wifi And drain should be ok, but I recomand to use an ICS rom that uses 2.6 kernels
but this problem is known by everybody and discussed to all JB roms threads and in link that I provided you, so, it cannot be done by me or you, we have to wait for the people that can do real things in here, developers
this problem is because Qualcom and Google does not support old ARMv6 processors in JB, so with all the magic from XDA developers some problems cannot be solved

I do not use wi fi,i use only 3g.Mine kernel version it says is 2.6.35.10.
I used BB stats but did not understand much, only thing i could understand was gps location provider running all the time.
Phone did not sleep for one second neither this 'gps location provider'
By the way which cpu spy or cpu spy plus you were talking about which tells about the apps consuming battery, coz even in the cpu spy plus it is the same like cpu spy.

I'm no expert in battery life of the moto g, i'm still trying to get used to the phone but for me having spent 1% per hour in a day with no use and those settings is pretty good, i mean if i go to sleep with 70%+ battery left, i don't even bother to charge the phone.

yes, <1,5% is good in idle but it can be better because for me, its 0,3-0,5%/h, sometimes only 0,1%/h (it means 0,6-3% max. for my 6 hour night)
Geenify
Maybe the apps which you didnt greenify cause this battery drain ( not sure if this is a high drain as im using tweaky one Rom with faux kernel.. Maybe try to greenify those apps which you dont habe greenified now one after the other and tell us if it made a difference.. Also look in your settings if you disabled all things you dont need like print GPS etc.. Hopefully this helps

Would you recommend to greenify motorola services? I did once and couldn't check for updates and get it back working was a pain in the arse. I am currently having around 1% drain with wifi on 24/7 but once I had around 0.4 to 0.6%/h. Can't find wakelocks aswell, currently on stock kernel and rom.
I dont think that Motorola services darin mich battery..
I want the moderator to ban me.
downgrade your OS to make it work again.

Need recommendation for KitKat rom

Hi,
Every KitKat Rom that I tried was affected by some kind of battery draining bug which has to do sth with Google Play services. Can you recommend a fix which works by doing it a single time? Uninstalling/stopping Google play services fixes the problem for a few hours only.
However, I would prefer a rom which is not affected By the bug out of the box.
I'm testing Racpu_ cm11s. Was having Google Play service wakelock, but learned somewhere on Oneplus forum about this: Install Disable Service from play store, switch to system tab, check SystemUpdateService. That somehow eliminates the wakelock. Today is 2nd cycle, 4hr screen on for youtube netflix under wifi, still rocking 48% of battery.
Cool, Ty, didn't know about this Bugfix, will try it. Why are you testing kitkat Roms in 2016?

Cool to hear i am not the only best-batterylife rom-hunter. How do you measure the battery performance of roms? Have a look at SoT when its close to 0% ?

Please tell me about your (major) findings about your research. How do you log and observe your the battery consumption? Which configs for sync, screen-of-gestures, brightness ?
I can share my findings also, if you want.

Sure. I wouldn't call mine "research" tho haha
Now I'm on slimsaber kk build, about the same SOT, feels slightly smoother than cm11s maybe.
Did my trick for the battery drain, but now Google Play services FC unless I set location to device only, oh well...opengapps btw.
What have you tried out so far? Did my trick work for you at all?

When you are searching for long sot, try blinoff's du. trust me, it's even better than sultan's cm13 rom

Since I opened this thread, I am on Karbon kitkat which seems to be a fork of Slimxxxx
Fortunately, I did not get an always active bug until now, so I didn't try your Bugfix.
How much SoT do you get with your roms and which configuration.?
Most times I get 4 hours with the following config
- brightness static 50%
- sync, tapToWake and offscreen gestures off ( just in case...)
With following usage profile:
- no 3d
- no video (out of short clips)
- chrome, messenger, quora, Google news
- telephone 45min
- 75% WiFi, 25% 3G

With Racpu's cm11s and Slimsaber KK build, I didn't get to use the battery all the way to like 1%, but I already got 5hr SOT before that. Here are more details.
Racpu's:
- auto brightness
- youtube and netflix a lot, some xda and chrome, abou 30min phone call
- always on wifi
- greenify in exposed mode
Slimsaber KK:
- auto brightness
- 3hr LTE, rest on wifi
- about 2hrs of youtube and netflix
- 40min navigation with google maps
- a few camera shots
Don't think this is scientific enough, but hope it gives some idea on my usage.

YouTube, video in general does really really impact SOT measurements. You get about 1,5 to 1,8 times more, I measured it a lot. Navigation is the other extreme : 3d, GPS and most times a high brightness because you are outside (on daylight)

Ah OK, that seems right. I didn't do such detailed research
Now I'm leaning towards what most people say: Battery life depends on how you use the phone.
Also, I think OPO has an amazing developer community and all roms are of high quality and yet retain their own unique qualities like functions etc.
