Auto reconnecting to "forgotten" hotspot - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello-
My Nexus 5 keeps reconnecting to a common public WiFi hotspot even after I choose to forget it. I thought that this might be related to Google backup/restore (i.e., that the forgotten SSID was being restored automatically), so I have also turning off backup to clear the data, forgetting the network, and then turning back up back on.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ron

wifi stopped working

somewhere along the lines of rooting or just playing around wifi stopped working. It stopped right after i added a hidden network and it connected. Now it just won't work. it tries to turn on and then just turns off. strange thing is that wireless tether works fine...
HELP~:?!
TIA
Same thing happened to me yesterday bro, tried everything to fix it and no luck, had to hard reset and then it's working again. Sucks I know, just make sure you back all your stuff up, I used "My Backup Pro" to backup my apps, contacts and data, search on the market.
Yesterday while trying to see if wifi tether or barnicle was working for the epic my wifi has seem to also stop working already tried a hard reset with no luck both apps have been uninstalled any suggestions?

What happened after you reset the phone? Would wifi turn on they say "unable to scan networks" then turn off? Or it wouldn't turn on period?
It says it is turning on and it also says its trying to optain an ip but then disconnects over and over. Its not my network since I am still able to connect with both my ipad and laptop.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Ok try this. I noticed when I turned wifi on after resetting the phone, it would scan networks, then totally stop working again so I had to hard reset again, after I hard reset right after I turned wifi on again I unchecked "notify me when an open network is available" and it's been working fine for me since. I honestly don't know why this happens but I haven't had problems after doing that, worth a shot for you.
Hey thanks for the help that seemed to work! Very strange

You're welcome. I'm glad it worked for you, but yeah it is very strange how it works fine after you disable "notify me when an open network is available". Samsung needs to sort this out, prolly a software problem
Also confirmed turning off network notification under wifi settings magically made wifi work again..... thanks man!!!

Problem: Mobile Data not turning off when I use WiFi

Pretty much as stated in the title. I rooted and installed the stock Inspire rom with sideloading and all that jazz from attn1. Before I rooted, when I turned off WiFi, it turned off Mobile Data (gave it a check mark under H+ instead of 2 arrows). But since the root, it doesn't do that most of the time. Sometimes I can fix it by going into Airplane Mode, enabling WiFi and turning off Airplane Mode. That'll fix it sometimes. What's going on? Anyone got a clue?
Try checking what apps you have running in the background. I've seen that sometimes some programs will try to use mobile data even if wifi is on. If you go to Settings>Apps>Manage Apps you can try closing apps using data one by one to see if after you close a certain one mobile data disconnects. Try any AT&T app especially.

I tried shutting down all the running services and such, but it didn't fix it. I installed "TrafficStats Lite" to see what's drawing the bandwidth, and it just gives me "Total GPRS/EDGE/3G 55 kB", no programs using it. If I intentionally run a program on 3G, it shows up there. I'm stumped.
I had the same problem. I rebooted and problem solved. Also you can put the mobile network widget on your screen and just turn off the network when on wifi.
Check the apn set up. I created an apn to enable WiFi hotspot w/o data tether plan. When using my created apn my data never turned off either. Upon switching back to Medianet data was turned off and my "check mark" under the H+ was restored. Hope this helps.

Used barnacle.. Wifi problems

Alright. So I installed and used barnacle wifi to tether something to my infuse, it worked. However, when I got home I found it can't connect to my home router. I checked on my laptop and the network is fine. I tried restarting, re entering password for the network and still nothing. Any ideas?

Also, when watching the wifi connection in phone settings, I see it scanning then say connecting then disconnected. Then starts the process over again.

you restarted the phone? sometimes my router becomes invisible and turning off wifi and tturning it back on helps. maybe try turning on mobile ap mode let it give you the whole checking for tethering plan and you dont own a tehthering plan messages and then turn it back to normal wifi. it might just have something to do with the way the radio switched modes that disagrees with the app, or a total coincicence. sometimes toggling modes sets everything strait. sometimes there is an actual problem that may be fixed by clearing data or reflashing the stock rom, i doubt it damaged the hardware in any way.
Yep, just cleared barnacle application data and fixed it right up. Thanks

Wifi icon not green.

I'm having problems with my wifi icon not connecting to the Google servers.
My 3g icon is fine and goes green, but when I connect to my wifi, it stays white and I cannot access any applications tthat require data connections.
Has anyone had similar problems?

This only happens to me when I'm using a hotspot somewhere. I'll have to load a webpage and click to connect. Only time.

I've had that happen to me a few times... just put it in airplane mode for 10 seconds and take it back out. Fixes it for me at least

Sounds like your router is not passing along the internet connection. Try restarting your router.

I get that on my home network once in a while. It'll connect to the internet, but not want to cooperate with Google's servers. Then 3G will work fine. Not really sure what the deal is. Probably some issue with Comcast's local servers, I dunno.
what mode do u use for your wifi? i was having the same problem and it was driving me crazy since i would keep getting errors like "disconnected" and "no active network connections." i switched from WPA2 Personal to WEP and now I'm not having problems anymore.
on a side note, does anyone know if i need to do something special to get WPA2 to work better and not keep disconnecting?

Every wifi network I use is wpa.
In the advanced wifi options, is your wifi sleep policy set to 'never'?

i have it set to never when plugged in. but if the screen is on, shouldn't it not make a difference?

it sounds like you dont have a data connection at the moment. check your internet via a desktop/laptop. also try unplugging your router then plugging it back in.
well my data works on my laptop and ipod touch - never with any problems. so it's strickly an android problem. but now that i've changed to WEP i haven't lost data connection at all today. the bars turned white twice, but i didn't lose connection like i did with WPA. very strange.
