So first of I am assuming that you have already rooted the phone and actually if that's what you're concerned about I know that Sprint will allow you to reflash the firmware at their service centers rooted or not so if that's what you're concerned about I would just go ahead and do that also I did see that Kyocera has a zip of the jelly bean update you can download I'm going to try to work on an open recovery for our phone but haven't had a chance to do it yet but those are pretty much your auctions other than trying to go into the bootloader and flash the recovery update but I believe you have to do that through our phone anyway I hope this helps some good luck manwhen I first rooted my phone I uninstalled the basic launcher and the bloatware and when I did a factory reset I had to go into the place store and download a new launcher so if you can at least get into the Play Store then you may be able to rock and roll

[Q] Help Unrooting Please

I need some advice, I am considering unrooting because I want to sell my G2x because I am not fond of it anymore. I tried to unroot now, using the unlocker website that works in tandem with this forum. I still see Super User on my phone. I watched the video, and followed every set of the directions. What is going on with my phone?
Why would you want to unroot? I mean the buyer ( if you sell it ) probably wont even know? Just delete superuser

I might be selling it off to one of those websites that buys phones because I found one that might give $180.
SuperUser still shows up as a random APK image, not like the pirate logo. It shows a generic Android icon. I can only freeze super user. The app I downloaded to show root access is present or not says my phone is not rooted. I just am stuck in the LG-P999 Stock Af rom. I don't want Froyo anymore, I prefer going to Gingerbread for the sake of selling my phone.

[Q] Camera has stopped, Help?

Hi a week ago from today i got the ATT USA samsung galaxy s3. I rooted it last weekend and yesterday i wanted to be able to use the volume button as a shutter button. I searched this up and found this post. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844374 im pretty sure i did it wrong because i didn't read the entire post and couldn't find exactly how to. I'm new to all of the android stuff (i previously has an iphone). So idk about the ROMs and other terminology. Bassically what i did was downloaded the zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1844374 to my phone. I then turned it off, held the power button, home and volume up. i hit install from zip and installed the file from that link. Idk if i was supposed to or not. Now i cannot use camera. Everytime i click camera nothing happens and it just pops up with "unfotunatly camera has stopped." It also made it say "android upgrading applications started" everytime it turns on. I need to know what to do next please and make it simple if possible. Thanks in advance.

It says android version 4.0.4
Damn, we'll it looks liked you tried to flash a jellybean camera on ice cream sandwich. Try searching the at&t Samsung galaxy s3 forum for a camera app and try installing that over what you got. I got to wake up for work in 5 hours otherwise I'd try to find it for you.
Worse case scenario go to the forum I said above and find the ariel rom and flash that.
All you would do is download the rom which will be a .zip file. You go into the recovery like you did before.
***Make a backup first by going to backup/restore and clicking backup.*** Once that's done you format data format cache go into mount and click format /system then go to advanced and format dalvik cache and then go to install update and select the ariel. Zip you downloaded. Ariel is a very stable ics rom. I used it for months. It's basically the same thing as the stock att gs3 but without the bullcrap bloat.

I searched for the camera and couldn't quiet find it, or know exactly what to look for. Would it be possible for me to just upgrade to jellybean now before i do anything else or what and if so how
I mean... It's a possibility you could do the ota update of jellybean (the normal att update) I personally would be afraid to try since you're rooted and have change system files by flashing that... Idk I wish someone else would jump in and and would confirm or deny that because I'm not 100% sure.
Personally I would just flash a custom rom anyway. I'm running the customized "stock" jb rom someone posted in the forum. It's running great and you can flash stuff like the one you originally tried without issue.

I personally would. I'd flash either the ariel rom which is ice cream sandwich. It's very stable with great battery life. Or the new jelly bean rom by enewman17
I've been using that one since last night and it's been running great so far. I was at work all day and I'm at 82% battery life with like 9 hours being on. If you have a microsd card in your phone you should put your data (pictures, music, etc.) on it anyway but you will basically lose all the apps and stuff. So put any data you want to save on your sd and use the instructions I said before to flash properly.

Don't worry about losing your apps. Your Google account will always save them. And the instructions are the same no matter what rom your flashing. So don't worry. You'll pick it up quick

[Q] Questions about rooting Verizon Galaxy S3

Hello all,
I have a couple questions regarding rooting my phone
i have a fully stock vrz sgs3 and the only thing ive done to it is loaded a different launcher (nova prime). i want to root my phone so that i can backup everything ive downloaded onto it (contacts, pictures, but most importantly EVERY app ive downloaded) and also slap a rom on there for some unique customizations (was thinking CM10).
I suppose my first question would be, in the process of rooting my phone, will it wipe any/all data and leave the phone like it was when i first open the box?
and if it doesn't, will i be able to backup everything with a backup app (and also which one would be highest on people's lists) before i start getting that rom on there and going nuts making my phone my own?
thank you very much for everyones time and help with this!
happy new year!
slainte!
If you use the one click root method(http://droidmodderx.com/galaxys3/?page_id=159) which by the way is way easier and faster than Odin, you won't lose any of your data, afterwards you will download Titanium backup to backup all of your apps, I'm not sure if there's another app out there but trust me this is the one EVERYONE uses and the best one. Then download EZ-recovery(from the app store) and install the custom recovery CWM using the app itself and download EZ-unlock 1.2 (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/32456-app-920-ez-unlock-14-easiest-way-to-unlock-your-bootloader/) since 1.4 is buggy, and press unlock to unlock the bootloader and then you can flash all the ROMs you want. You MUST have the bootloader unlock to flash custom ROMs/kernels and remember to always factory reset/wipe cache and dalvik and format system when flashing and don't ever flash a ROM from another carrier because it will brick your device.
Good luck.
I'm guessing you are on JB OTA right?

If so here is the only method to root it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=35418324
You woo not lose your data doing it. Also, as a friendly tip download triangle away because this root method will trip your flash counter. Also, I HIGHLY recommend not downloading or following guides from other sites besides here and root, and maybe a select other few. Seen way to many bricks by following random guides.
Sent from my VS920 4G using xda app-developers app
Make sure you follow the root guide according to what software you are running. The ICS method does not work for Jellybean. Rooting will not wipe your data but flashing a ROM will. Just do a Nandroid backup in clock work mod (CWM) thats backs up your data with your ROM as well. You can download Titanium Backup to back up your apps. Sms backup will back up your txts and call logs.

Well put couldn't have said it better,
I would not jump right into an ASOP like CM10 for my first flash, you might want to start with a TouchWiz based rom like Clean rom first. AOSP roms in general take a few more steps to install and still have some occasional issues (data drops, getting stuck in roaming, and loosing IMEI (no data) any of which could lead to a day of anxiety and localized baldness (hair pulling)
I hope you know what your getting into.....You will never be satisfied with a stock rom again
Wow! What great responses everyone!

so i tried to do the root method you mention in the first part of your response, and it asked me if the uid and the gid are set to 0. there were not prompts for me to change the values of these id's so i assumed they were not set to 0 when the cmd asked me.
can you please advise on how to get these set to 0?
thank you!
Just check in the prompt, even if it's right it'll ask you, it'll say they're values in the prompt.

Question
What is the difference between using the EZ-Bootloader or using Goomanager for TWRP?
I am not a fan of using apps just for the sake of it and having 3 of the same on my phone. I have seen people use Goomanager for TWRP, EZ-Bootloader and Rom Manager. All I want is one...so is there an advantage or disadvantage to using TWRP and uninstalling EZ-Boatloader?

EZ-Recovery has the the old TWRP preloaded last I saw but can load latest on sd card and use the app to install it. Goo Manager downloads the latest TWRP directly and installs. Rom Manager is for CWM.

Custom rom problem

Hey XDA! My brother and I are having a problem with his Verizon GS3. After a fight with it we finally got it completely rooted (we rooted it while he was running 4.1.1 stock) . Every time we try to flash a ROM the phone does it and then during boot up it gives an error message. Something along the lines of "unauthorized software has been detected. Please go to your nearest Verizon store to restore your device." not exactly what it says but close to that (I don't have it in front of me right now). Does anyone know what could be wrong and how to fix it?

So ezunlock is no longer available on the play store apparently. Every link that was supposed to take me there didn't work, just says it "We're sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server." Any other apps that I could use?
Hopefully this works. Threw the apk up in my drive. I'm not going to leave it there long, so grab it quick. Make sure to allow installs from unknown sources in developer settings.
Removed URL
Post here when you have it.
Edit: Removed the URL since I'm not going to leave it up all night. Google ezunlock, it's literally the first link you see.

[Q] Problem updating

Just got a Shield Tablet and already facing lots of problem. First, a lot of apps are "stopping". I can barely use it. ie. "Unfortunately, Google Play services has stopped". Second, I can't update through the system updates (SHIELD Tablet Software Upgrade 1.2 - Wifi) at settings. I've tried several times and I get an error. Can anyone help?
First are you change the run time to art, because some apps not work well whit art, and I think that whit a factory reset maybe it will solve yours problems.

No, I did not change runtime to ART. It's currently at Dalvik. I did reset it but no luck at all. When I try to update, I get "md5 integrity check failed." and when I install apps, I get " error 960" Also, it would sometimes reboot randomly.
Your best bet is to call nvidia tech support and contact them for a replacement.
