Guys, im the developer of Power Switch, an app that switches off your tablet's screen when you shut the case.
The main thread can be found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277712
Ive had reports of problems with the pad's light sensor, so would appreciate some debugging feedback.
You can use the lite version to test, it has all the features, but just wont save as much juice.
Thanks in advance. Feel free to reply here or in the main thread, i read both regularly!
Great idea. Does it require root?
Also, it would have been awesome if it could wakeup automatically as well, like the iPad smart cover.
No, no need for root.

That is a mechanical function. It is possible on android too, but it would kill the battery as you could never really put your device to sleep.

Who cares about a little battery juice? The cool factor would be awesome. Maybe as a timed option? Like 5 or 10 min. or more "auto wake" feature.
Fortunately, everyone cares.

I don't, and Im sure there are others that would like the option. As a developer who is trying to sell an app you might consider not generalizing your customer, rather say its not a feature I can, or wish to add to this app. Your app does have potential. Thanks for your efforts.
Ill keep that in mind. However, as a developer with some experience i still think everyone cares. Everyone who understands just what would be happening if the teblets screen would be off but it wasnt sleeping.

I'll give it a go and let you know!
Good idea.
Please do!
I think the auto wake up function would be great! Maybe you could make it as an option, people who like it can turn it on and who doesnt like it can turn it off.....
Installed it last night. Set the Auto Shutdown to 5:00, left most other defaults on. (Enable Sensors/Use Light Sensor). Plugged into AC. Closed screen and could see screen was shutting down. After 5:00 would be off. In morning (closed screen) fired it up and at full charge.
Quite nice! Anything else I should look at in the app?
I wouldnt mind if you had a good test of the sesitivity defaults...
I couldn't get it to work on my Transformer, it would only work the first time after that I had no luck getting it to register the closed lid, nor my hand covering the sensor..

Gotcha. Other active settings are Enable Power Switch, Confirmation 12 sec, Activation 8 Sec, Enable Sensors, Light Sensors (50%) and Acceleration Sensor.
Will leave there for a day or two.
thanks
Brilliant, thanks a lot this is just the kind of thing i am looking for!
When your phone is in your pocket, full volume notifications are necessary if you don't want to miss a message. But when you already have your phone out and unlocked, there's no need for them to be loud and annoying, especially if you're already using the app they originate from (e.g. message apps).
Awake/Sleep Volume Adjuster lets you set custom notification volume levels for when your phone is asleep and when it's awake.
This is my first app, so I apologize for any issues it may have, but I hope people will find it useful. Either way, it's been nice to have just for myself!
Nice idea, but ram hungry!

Aw, is it really? Bummer. For me it was on par with my other background-type helper apps I use regularly. What device/version have you tried it on?
Very useful app. Thank you!
Does this effect battery life at all? This is a great idea for an application. I hate when I almost crap my pants from a notification being too loud! I hope this app does well and has many more updates in the future.

I have an HTC Evo Design 4G which has atrocious battery life (carry around a spare in my wallet) and haven't noticed any decrease. I regularly check the battery use because I have to watch for things eating it up and it hasn't shown up yet!

Thanks for this app it works and is very discrete. I want my ringtone loud but notifications lower so this is the way to go.

Great and very usefull app Thanks for sharing
I've got a problem, when someone calls me, and my phone isn't in my pocket, but I'm not using it either, the screen turns on, so the phone goes vibrate mode, I don't know if can be fixed. Great app btw.

Damn! I never actually use my phone as a phone so that never crossed my mind. I'll look into it changing it, but right now the app simply works on whether the screen is lit up or not. Thanks for the heads up!

Btw: you could made this an xposed module, to be less ram hungry.
I will be getting a note edge and currently my wife has a LG g3 and I love the knock knock feature to turn it on. Does anybody know if the note edge has a similar feature to knock or swipe the side edge screen to turn it on? If not I plan on developing an app to accomplish that, if the sdk allows.

I tried but nothing worked. Then again there may be a particular way the swipe gesture works?? I can tell you that the edge screen wakes up if you just rub it right to left.
Thx. I am going to see about building some functionality for that.
Great!
Wish I could develop apps for the edge screen...
I am able to develop 3D live wallpaper using Unity but cant get head around coding.

Wouldn't the screen have to be kept on ?! I don't mean physically on but wouldn't a layer of the screen have to be on because so it can register input whilst the screen is off ?!

I was trying to say wouldn't it be a drain on battery life but it just occured to me that every phone has a similar set up.

yea it does but probably not enough to matter.
Its a standby mode. Any phone that uses knock to wake, swipe to wake, voice etc... will have the sensors in stand by.

Thanks for the info. I'm surprised that this kind of app isn't already out. OEMs have released this feature with some of their flagships but why isnt it more mainstream.

I would say this regarding battery drain... I have not rooted my wife's G3 and she uses the knock knock feature roughly 100 times per day lets say on average. Her battery has never been less than 45% with super heavy usage. Usually around 73% by the time she gets home at 5:15.
She plays games, Keeps the brightness on 90% (no auto), checks emails/texts/IM a bunch, pinterest, facebook, keeps the gps on, bluetooth off. So I would say it doesn't drain the battery enough to complain about if barely at all. Now, maybe LG built this feature into the firmware or something i don't know about, where it doesn't need the screen and maybe it uses one of the ICs that detect vibration or something.
Just discovered spen toolbox in the play app store. It's not advertised to work on the note 4, but it works fine.
It allows you to use you're own custom sounds for removing and replacing your spen, and can also pop up a mini menu of apps you use you're spen on. In addition, your note can not only turn on with spen removal, but also shut off on replace.
It can even auto launch an apk on remove, but I find in using the spen more and more.
There is a shutoff delay on the free version, and no delay if you pay the $2.60 or so for the unlocked version.
I was so happy it worked flawlessly, I was happy to pay for full, even though it's high for limited functionality.
So now can use light Saber startup sounds, muscle car sounds, or ghostbusters proton pack sounds.!
Here's the play link:

Sounds good. I'll give it a try. I miss the Star Wars light saber sound when I used the S-Pen on my note 2!
what about GMD s pen control from the note 3?

oh, excited for no reason
For the Developer Edition (IF rooted), I just downloaded the GMD Spen Control app. Almost $6 USD but WOW what that thing does! Some of the best money I've spent in a long time. Actually, I spent none of my own money: I have Google Rewards app, which pays cash into my Google account for taking surveys on my phone... so I used that!
Anyway, I highly recommend both apps. That said:
Does anyone here have the OGG files for the lightsaber start and stop? I'd love to throw that into the sound library - THANKS!
You can use any wav or mp3 file as well. I currently have the ghostbusters proton pack startup and shutdown sounds on my note.
Does the root app offer any additional functionality?

That's awesome, just set it up for mine!
I bought this, awesome, Love it!
I use the sounds and pop-up mini window, like it better then the stock one.
and I use smart screen off, so if screen was off it goes off if screen was on stays on.
Super Find!
I saw lag a few times on playback on remove and replace, but think I found the cure, just like the "ok Google" delay.
It's the stock touchwiz launcher.. install Nova, and they go away completely, and OK Google launches like 10 times faster!
There's nothing that makes me feel more stupid than saying ok google, and my phone just sitting there doing nothing like a rock.
Hey,
I checked that app and bought it. It is excellent. Thanks for sharing it. I am hiring a mobile application development company to another application like this for iPhone.

True, but they work just like a finger touch does. There is no extra button to launch a nenu, not pressure sensitivity, and no way for the device to detect you even have a stylus.
That's why it makes no sense at all to me to try to replicate the app on an iphone...it depends on hardware support of a stylus, not just using a simple capacative pen.
Are there any lockscreen replacement applications that arent terrible out there? Ive tried a few but they have been really bad, so I was wondering if there was anything out there I hadnt run across yet that you might really like.
C Locker works great for me, even retains the fingerprint secure login. I use the pro version, so I can't comment on the free version.
Take a look at AcDisplay, it's like the moto active display and I use it and it's surprisingly customizable and uses very little memory. I love it.
Hey guys, thanks for both of the reply's. I actually really like both of those!
