SM-N900W8 4.4.2 Kit Kat Available - Galaxy Note 3 General

The SN-N900W8 Version of the Note 3 is finally seeing its Official Kit Kt Update.
The first carriers seeing the update are in Canada. Hope The rest of America will see it soon enough.
Please check Software updates in your phone or go to the usual sites to download and install via ODIN.
Please also report if you install this version in phones from other regions/providers, like South America.
Regards

You can download it from:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-N900W8
Just be sure to use your correct model and Odin version according to the instructions in each site.
Everything is under your own risk as usual.
I updated via ODIN without doing Resets or CleanUps, and it upgraded to 4.4.2 pretty nice, while keeping all my apps and without losing data.

do you lose root when you update from 4.3 to 4.4?

Yes you do.
But there are already tools to get it again from the 4.4.2 baseline.

Can you point me in the right direction.
I did an updated to 4.4.2 (KK) with Kies successfully, but I can't get root back.
Tried CF-Autoroot as before, but my recovery always says "recovery is not seandroid enforce" and just reboots to normal phone without supersu.
Any help by anybody would be appreciated.

I wonder if the bootloader kept the same advantages there were pretty unique to the W8 model with the initial leak?

Well. It seems like there are no new catchs or caveats, and everything is still the same as cool as before.

Friend: I think you better go and read the info in the Android Development Threads. The information there is very complete and fine.
Please be aware that the current root methods over 4.4.2 are for other models not the W8.
I think somebody needs to jump in here and test ways to do root. To be Honest, I don't do root with my Note 3, as I still have to find a reason to do it. For me everything is working nice without Root.

I was thinking about flashing official 4.4.2 for Telus/Koodo, but I haven't really seen anything that says it's rootable at the moment, so I'm hesitant to upgrade to stock 4.4.2. I'm really just looking for the latest Telus/Koodo modem from 4.4.2 (currently running MJ4 baseband), I'm pretty happy with CM11. Can I just extract the modem.bin from the 4.4.2 file from Sammobile and flash it with Odin?

I rooted my Bells Note 3, and it tripped knoxes.. Can I upgrade with Kies? or will it brick it?
I started the process with Kies and said rooted devices may fail if phone is rooted..
Anyone know for sure?
Thanks

Probably can't un-trip the knox but so what... I don't expect to get warranty so I'll do the best way, Odin and correct firmware. Then you'll have to re-root again. But you're knox tripped, meh..

If you have the time can you do a step by step guide on how you did the kit kat update, together with root and twrp, and if possible tell us where you got the right files from? Its kind of confusing what we can install and not install on our phones since there are so many different models for the note 3 and no one wants to trip knox if they dont have to.

Here is a quick and dirty guide of how I flashed and rooted 4.4.2 on my Bell Note 3.
1 download carrier firmware from sammobile
2 unzip to single tar file (N900W8VLUCNB7_N900W8OYACNB7_N900W8VLUCNB7_HOME.tar)
3 put phone in download mode (make sure you see the red/white text at the top i.e. if knox is tripped etc.)
4 open odin 3.09 as admin
5 click AP and select the tar file and then click start
6 wait
7 once phone is booted
8 download CF Root -> CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.zip
9 I used odin supplied in the CF zip (Odin 3.07)
10 Select AP then -> CF-Auto-Root-hlte-hltexx-smn9005.tar.md5
11 Click Start
12 Wait for phone to reboot
13 Enjoy Root
At this point I also installed TWRP 2.7.0.0

SM-P905 new update

Did anyone take the September-october update?
(Italy / Nordic countries /switzerland/ slovakia/ poland/ portugal)
Pda- P905XXUANH3
I'm trying to understand if it messes up the towelroot or not.
Thanks.
I took the plunge, but Towelroot refused to work on the new rom. Apart from that the tablet started rebooting spontaneously every 15 mins or so after I installed the update.
Def NOT recommended to install it.
I had to downgrade to the previous rom using Odin and now I'm back to normal.
Hope that helps.

Another possibility could be to install H3, then flash xxuanc3 firmware, towelroot it without tripping knox and then reflash h3 firmware. A similar procedure works on s4, but unfortunately I'm not enough expert on firmware and odin stuffs, so I am not sure if there are possibilities to brick the device and how to prepare the extracted firmwares for odin flashing. I found some procedures that should work for doing that but nothing about a way to check in advance if such procedures are sure.
A developer should be able to do this, but, in wich part of the forum this can be asked?
.?

My device is rooted and I installed new update (KOT49H.P905XXUANH3) by flashing full ROM by odin, without wiping.
Now I'm experiencing random reboots (pretty often). The question is - is it because it was dirty-flesh or just new updated rom is not working properly?
Are you also experiencing such problems?

rooted NH3 with towelroot
Ok,
I successfully rooted NH3 with towelroot, acting as pointed out in my first post. The only problem I had is that once you load the XXUANC3 firmware you loose the wifi connectivity, obliging to rely on your provider's internet connectivity to complete the rooting proicess.
To remove the knox and update stuff I used a debloating script that in another thread for the sm-p905, but no other stuff, as this script was written for the previus version of the firmware.
No knox trip nor reboots, so far.

- Check that developer mode is enabled
- Download and install Towelroot and supersu
- Shut down the tablet
- Reboot (Home Key + Volume Down + Poweron, then volume UP) in download mode and flash with Odin 3.07 or 3.09 the latest firmware (XXUANH3).
- Shut Down the tablet
- Reboot the tablet and flash only the Kernel of the previous firmware (XXUANC3)
- You loose the WIFI connectivity, so connect to the internet through your phone provider internet connection, then - Launch Towelroot and root your tablet, Then launch Supersu and disable Knox. The tablet may freeze at this point (didn't happen to me), but in any case you have to shut down.
- Reboot in download mode and flash the latest firmware (XXUANC3).
- At this point you're done, but, to avoid random reboots you have to completely remove Knox, something that you can do with several tools. I used a debloating tool for SM-P905 that I found in this forum.
About the Kernel files needed for this procedure, I tried to attach them to my posts, but it looks like I'm not yet enabled to do that (too few posts, may be).
To prepare them from the original firmware files I used a Windows script called TAR_MD5_PAKAGER, that you can find searching in this forum.
Hope that the above results clearer than my previous posts

So far as I know, flashing stock samsung firmware will NOT trip Knox
If it trips Knox, then it will be up to the repair centre the phone goes to and the carrier, regardless of EU, UK or any other LAW as Knox trip does invalidate warranty. Just because you are lucky enough to get a phone fixed after it's had custom software on does not make it the norm. And if you're refused warranty, good luck challenging it, Europe or not.
As for going back to 5.1.1 I heard it wasn't possible without breaking Knox.

Have you had any luck? I want to as well because my battery is draining like 40% faster now that I upgraded. That and there's a few bugs that I can't get rid of that bother me quite a bit.
I've tried the various guides online using Odin3 and the ROMs from SamMobile but I can't get it to not fail. I've factory restored it multiple times and tried all of the updates to Odin 3.10. I can't get any of it to work and It's making me mad! I've tried two different PCs, made sure the drivers for reading the phones are updated and even multiple USB cords! I just want Lolipop back so I can enjoy my phone and not have it be dead halfway through my day!

Hi,
Flashing ROM from sammobile never worked for me. This is what I did.
Download the latest 5.1.1 bootloader, modem and TWRP 3.0 for your model. Flash them in odin after putting them in respective locations. If successful, the phone boots into recovery, where you can restore a 5.1.1 backup if you have any. If you don't have a backup, see that you have a ROM file ready in the phone to flash.

[Q] Root/Bootloader procedure

Just acquired a Sprint S5 with 6.0.1 and PH3 firmware. I've never had a Sprint device before, I've always used Verizon. What's the procedure for root/bootloader on Sprints version?
You can root the G900P on PH3 with CF-Auto-Root. It WILL trip Knox if not already tripped.

Can't I just Odin twrp and install SuperSU through recovery? I'm new to sprint phones, thanks for the help.
CF-Auto-Root installs a version of SuperSu as described by Chainfire at the link in my first post. I suppose you could install TWRP with Odin but I don't think SuperSu will be of any use without root. I'm not really an expert.
Twrp will install the binary on its own, it will say supersu not detected, you'll need to install the apk/app of su. Unrooted ever? Interested to know if the new magisk works for galaxy s5
Sorry to piggy-back, but is there any type of process for unlocking the bootloader? Is the bootloader already unlocked on these phones? I've seen conflicting posts, but they're all old.

Well, if no one knows I'll give you guys an update when I try it.
Well. We're going to have to wait a bit longer. The eBay listing for it said it was in "very good condition" and was described as having minor scratches on the sides of the phone. When I got it, it looked like this: http://imgur.com/a/qfywD
I powered it on anyway, thinking maybe I could fix the power charger tab, and put a tempered glass protector on it to cover up the weird issues with the glass. That was, until I tried the capacitive buttons, which didn't work. No lights on them either. Now I'm waiting for the seller to respond to my return request. Friggen rip-off.

Ouch, looks like it needs a new digitizer. I recommend Swappa instead of ebay.
I had a good experience with ubuyrite or something like that, let me return an s4 that wasn't to my liking, then let me return I t for full price when I wanted an s5
Ok, so I got my new S5, upgraded to PH3, then downloaded CF-Auto-Root from here: https://download.chainfire.eu/408/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-kltespr-kltespr-smg900p.zip
I already had adb configured, so I enabled developer options, then used adb to reboot to the bootloader (download mode). Drivers were auto detected on Windows 10. I opened the bundled version of Odin in the auto-root folder and flashed the bundled tar.md5 file. After the reboot I had SuperSu installed and working. Rebooted back into download mode, then did the same process to flash the TWRP 3.0.2-0 tar from the TWRP website. I'm currently doing a backup and we'll see if I get a working ROM installed today.

Odin or I was wondering if twrp would bring it back, you don't have to, I just remember kit Kat getting blocked when lollipop came out.

So I have followed Hydromans rooting instructions closely, but no matter what, I am failing in Odin. Even tried to flash fresh firmware in case I missed a setting somewhere, but Im stumped. Dev Options on, both boxes ticked, downloaded boot.tar from Hydromans link, Odin 12.3. Samsung drivers are up to date as well. Ive even used debloater to block Knox packages first, but fail, fail, fail. How did you overcome this in order to set SELinux to permissive??

I believe that model has the Exynos cpu, you can download cpu-z from the market to check. If so, you can follow the directions in this link to add twrp recovery and root while doing so.

Thank u but....
Thank u but mine is the sms550tl tracphone model, can't install twrp without bricking it. I realized I have a new FW released since march, and it seems there isn't a recent boot.tar to use. Thanks for the help

I'm looking for this as well. SELinux is permissive, but KingRoot just refuses to work. Did I trip KNOX for nothing?

Samsung Health not working after OREO update

Hi Guys,
Yesterday I updated my phone via Odin to Oreo, but unfortunately samsung health says that my phone is rooted and it is not working anymore. ( Of course my phone is not rooted, I used stock firmware)
I think the problem is I used different region code firmware. Am I right? How can I use the app again? Wait for my original country's firmware and update via Odin would be a solution?

It detects Knox is 0x1. To fix this you must root your phone, go with root browser to the root of the device (/) then /efs. There you'll find a file "factory.prop". Open it and add there "ro.config.tima=0". Then you can unroot/reflash stock ROM and s health works

thanks for your quick reply, Is this a permanent change or can I fix this by flashing my phone's original country firmware?
Actually I don't want to root my phone as it has warranty till the end of this year..

Check in Download Mode, if it says Warranty Void 0x1 then it has at one time either been rooted or had custom flashed to it, in which case Warranty is void anyway and you might as well root

It is still 0 (0x0000)
What about to downgrade back to Nougat? Will it work again?

not working... I did full wipe
Googled it and everybody recommends to root the phone in case of above S health bug... but I am looking for another solution ... Surprisingly this is the only app which thinks I am rooted...
Found it. I need to flash all components not Just AP in odin
And it works?
Yes! It is working now. You need to flash every stuff from the downloaded zip. Thankfully SamMobile attached everything you need.
:good:
As I see a lot of people facing this issue, and all "expert " recommends root. But there are other options too.
Anyway, thank you for all help

Experts recommend root if your KNOX is 0x1 because that is the only solution, if you fail to read up on how to flash firmware and end up with a problem because of your own fault, and fail to mention in your main post that you didn't flash the firmware correctly, we are not psychic, we can only go on the info you give us
Next time, learn how to flash firmware the correct way first

That's true, that was my mistake... in good old Times as I remember only AP was included in the ZIP,and that was enough.

Yep, with my S5 that was the method, but instructions for S7 are under the download on sammobile's site and all over this forum
As a rule when I get a new phone I spend a good few weeks reading threads before I attempt anything, even a simple stock flash, saves possible bricks and other problems like this one
Anyway good it's working again
I have the exactly same issue knox is 0x0 but Samsung health isn't working, can you please explain the exact steps about the following message how can i run Samsung health in g955u secure folder is also not working
