Hi,
I have a desire S with 2.3.3 and build 1.31.720.2, few hours back I was using it with Gtalk and suddenly it was not responding, not responding as in not able to bring it back from suspended mode. Tried to restart it but get to the HTC welcome screen and then it wont respond i get the HTC jingle but screen has just a backlight no display. Havent done a factory reset till now. Any clue what might have happened yes a tried with battery out also kept without battery for 10-12mins.
It is S-ON
blimey,
I assume that the battery is fully charged? As it sounds like you have a flat battery.
If not plug phone in to charge.
Otherwise, I'd try a hard reset as your next option.
Good luck
Otherwise I'm guessing that it's still well within it's initial warranty.

I finally had to go with factory reset. Good thing is after reset phone automatically reinstalls all the apps saves me a lot of work.
Well I really don't know what might have had happened but just a day before I was trying for a temp root using gingerbreak and I achieved it after that I installed a hacked version of Google navigation from xda, which worked for me... It's just a wild guess that this might have created the issue.

Now that might go some way to explain what you experienced glad that problems is resolved

Tried googling it but didn't find anything exactly like this.
Basically when I have auto brightness there are times when i won't move my phone whatsoever or any lighting around it and the brightness go from dim to bright couple secs back to dim and so on for no reason.
Could it be a faulty sensor or firmware related?
I had stock and few custom roms and its happening on all of them.
Idk if I should send to htc for repkacemt or are any you experiencing same thing and expect this to be fixed with update?
It's so annoying and although I could put a constant screen brightness I don't want to.
Thanks in advanced !!

I find that a lot of times when I'm holding my phone in landscape that my left hand covers the sensor. As I'm typing it will move enough to generate a change, and then move back to undo it. Just my .02.

Damm... I was about to post simething regarding this issue too...
As i m typing now, tge dispkay keep "tunning" itself.. wanna chk with the rest if its normal... I dun encounter this when i off the auto brightness function

Yes I don't hold in landscape and I will literally just put phone on table and the brightness goes back and forth without stopping.
And I'm positive no light is changing or ne movements ...

I think you have what I have and maybe its just a faulty sensor?
Then again if it gets brigght it dies adjust accordingly and otherway around its just it never stops and imagine reading even this forum at night on phone and every eight seconds gets brighter and eight seconds later gets dim and so on.
It's so annoying I think I'm gonna send my phone in
I'm just scared to because i had no other issues at all that others had and don't wanna risk a different problem ....

Can someone please help me? My htc sensation was working fine and all of a sudden it started freezing, so I took out the battery and put it back in. Now it won't turn on or boot into Hboot. The battery is fully charged and I even tried a different battery but still nothing. I've plugged in the phone without the battery as well and still nothing, the screen does not come on at all. Does anyone have a solution?

Hi,
I saw someone with the same problem.
He removed his sim card, left it for a while ,then switched on the phone without the sim card.
Might be worth a try.
Tried it, still no luck any other solutions?

Are you able to get a PC to recognise the phone via USB i.e. is adb working?
It sounds like a screen issue, it may be booting under this.

Hopefully its so fubar thats they cant check to see, or waste their time...
I had it on mine to, on the period that it wasnt rooted yet, just send it to HTC, its a factory defect, they can't blame it on root access.

If it won't turn on for you won't turn on for them call tmob get replacement

can you return it with manufacturers warranty to tmobile or is there another warranty you need
Have you tried another battery before you return it? Could be a bad battery?

Hey man saw your issue...
This happened to me about 3 months ago. I was watching a youtube video when suddenly my phone froze. I did the exact same thing. Pulled the battery, waited a few mins, popped it back in and nothing. If you have insurance on the device you can get it replaced. They completely replaced mine and it was s-off rooted! So you should have no problems at all!:good:
Mine has done that a couple of times. All I do is wait about 5 minutes then pull the battery, put it back in and then try to restart the phone. Sometimes it take 5 or 6 tries before it will reboot and even then sometimes all I get it the splash screen. Another hint is to have it plugged into the charger after you have put the battery back in. If the charging led is on then that means there is a very good chance the phone will boot
Dropped my phone a few days ago. It was all good until this morning.
I charged it all night and I wake up with it at 1percent but the charge light being green. So I restart my phone and it never turned back on.
My girlfriend has the same phone so I used hee battery.... still nothing.
I have insurance but my phones rooted... but will that effect anything if they SOMEHOW figure out that it is?
Or is it okay since this is a hardware issue?
And does anyone have an idea to fix this before I go to t mobile today?
Thanks.

just throwing out some ideas here...but you could connect it to ur comp and see if its detected...then try and use some fast boot boot commands see if u can even get to recovery

Try letting it charge for a few hours.

the red light don t turned on
if I have it plugged in but not turned on the red LED should not blink wao all that happened today you heard of this problem has been solved before?
Blinking means it's too dead to turn on and needs to charge.
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
don t blinking
yes but not flashing red LED lights do not blink or I'm wrong should
Just leave it plugged in for a few hours, don't worry about the led for now.

ok and the another problem?
ok and my other problem as it does not start after installing the chain fire 3d light passes only htc logo but nothing does the volume buttons do not work and I can not access the recovery
Have the volume buttons stopped working recently or have they not worked for a long time?
Sent from my Evita
a few months
have some months that do not work but you could do alone root stopped working there a way to wipe or something to fix this?
Just let it charge for now. Blinking red means it needs a charge and cannot turn on.
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
Without being able to get to bootloader there's nothing you can really do. I'm trying to think of a solution but I'm coming up blank.

He might be able to get adb working or be able to ruu even if the rom doesn't boot.
Sent from my One X using xda app-developers app
wao
I'm not experienced in this red LED still does not turn anything over an hour is connected and if I buy the flex of the volume buttons'm desperate and think mobile communication to see what I can do

Yeah maybe trying adb reboot bootloader while it's trying to boot?
Sent from my Evita
another way
there is no other way to enter the boot without the volume keys?
Not conventionally, but you could try adb commands, I'm not sure if they'll work though.
Sent from my Evita
how
I can do it like you could help me I have no experience in that.
The phone needs to at least turn on for adb commands or an ruu to possibly work. If it just stays black it could be bricked and require a jtagg or motherboard replacement
