[Q] REQ Complete Guide to installing CM10.1 Nightlies on TF300T

Hi All,
I am looking for a complete guide (or links to various parts) to install the new CM10.1 nightlies that started on 5/19/2013.
I've been looking through XDA and I see a lot of information that's dated for the 4.2.1 and earlier, but nothing that confirms these steps work for these new nightlies.
1. Unlock BL using ASUS v8? (I am on 4.2.1)
2. Root it (how, what procedure should I follow and which files)?
3. Which BL should I install? I've been using CWM on my GS3, but a lot of these guides use TWRP. which versions
4. This guide looks dated, please confirm

Most of your questions have already been answered multiple times. Ill do my best to summarize the answers ......
1) V8 unlocks most although there are some who arent able to unlock after having things come back from Asus from repair.
2) Unless you are stuck on a locked bootloader, skip rooting if you are planning on installing a custom rom..... why waste your time rooting something you wont be using? If you fall into this category, your option are limited but there is a way to root without TWRP or CWM.
3) Personally I have found that the 4.1 bootloader version 10.4.2.20 seems to play nicest with my tf300t. This of course means im stuck using Roms made specifically for 4.1 bootloaders. Im using twrp 2.4.4.0. Instructions on downgrading firmware are all over, but im pretty sure you must have an unlocked bootloader for this as well. Its a simple fastboot command to push the older system blob file to the device. Relatively easy.
4) Cant comment as I dont use CM
5) Im using CleanRom Inheritance and found that it not only benches higher, but runs much much faster than anything else I have tried on my tablet. I started with the latest 4.2.1 ROM and Bootloader. After trying everything out and everything lagging on my tablet, I decided to downgrade firmware. ROMS are nothing but personal preference, but, I find personally that Cromi ( for 4.1 ) along with Unter's kernel,makes my device smooth as butter. YMMV
6) Again, I cant comment as I dont use CM. Maybe someone else can chime in on this ? There are PLENTY of rom options available. Just try things out and see what you like best. Just remember to read the roms OP very carefully to make sure you have the proper bootloader installed for it. You can brick your device if you mismatch the rom and bootloaders.

1. I have a new one - so hopefully I should be ok. But I'll use v8

3. I'd like to stick with the 4.2.2 bootloaders since my other devices are all running the same stuff. I haven't used TWRP before - any preference to that versus CWM?

To be honest, the lag is still there accross all the 4.2 roms I tried, even debloated. Its not as bad but its still there. My alternate device has a beastly exynos in it so im used to a perfect smooth experience. I notice even a little bit of jitter and it drives me crazy ( hence why I downgraded to 4.1 ) .
As far as what bootloader to use for which CM rom, each will tell you which to use specifically. I saw there is a cm10.1 for 4.2 and for 4.1. Just make sure to match things.
I used to be a CWM user all the way, but twrp does trump it in features and usability, especially for the transformer series. I beleive there is only one single twrp that works properly on the new bootloader for stock based roms ( no cwm will work on it at all). It ends in .42 so make sure you flash the correct one. If not, your partitions wont be writable.
One MAJOR warning.........
Do NOT use the wipe / factory reset on ANY bootloader. You will brick your tablet!!! Permanently!!!!
You can ONLY use the wipes inside of twrp / CWM.

definitely smart to have installed TWRP - CWM through ROM Manager tried to suggest installing a TF201 recovery. From the web site it's vague but suggest a TF101 image as well.
I followed your suggestion and downloaded the 42 TWRP recovery from after having done all the SDK Tools installation and testing connectivity with FASTBOOT (from the installed SDK package, not random ones from the internet).

I'm up in TWRP and running a backup of the ASUS original installation, will copy to External SD card.
previously i've formatted the internal card and then installed the ROM and GAPPS. Should I not do this?

Im assuming you are flashing CM10 then? The only important thing is fully read the OP and match your bootloader to whatever one they tell you. Its generally not a suggestion, but an actual requirement.
Mines a 32gb so I keep all of my backups and rom flashes right on the internal storage. I feel its safer in case of SD corruption or an accidental wipe. It doesnt hurt to have it in 2 places though ( backup your original rom to SD card but keep everything on the internal as well ). I always flash from internal ( roms and nandroids alike ). Ive never had an issue.

1. Installed TWRP 2.5.0.0 - version ending with 42.
2. From the Wipe -> Advanced in TWRP, I selected SYSTEM, CACHE, DALVIK CACHE, and DATA (skipped the last two options).
3. I have the ROMs/GAPPS on my external SD card (and backup now too)
4. I installed today's nightly CM 10.1 for TF300T and the 20130301-signed (per 4.2.2 CM builds).
5. Reboot (via TWRP, Power Off)
I hit the power button to turn on and it gets stuck at the ASUS screen. Cannot boot into ROM either via the Android icon in the Bootloader menu.

going to give Cromi 4.2.1 a try too while I am in this bootloader:

I have the matching ASUS bootloader and TWRP combination this the ROM needs.
As for the CM10.1 - looks like for TF300T they are still using the older JB requirements... but still researching.

interesting - this ROM is packed with configuration options - you can really tailor your install.. very interesting - should work since it is a stock-based rom. we'll see. installing now.

yeah so that worked fine. the CM10.1 version must require some different combination.

taking your suggestions now and downgrading to the 4.1 bootloader. will also install the CleanInheritance rom.
by the way, thanks again for your help and suggestions!

So just for other people out there... if you want to run the TF300T downloads from get.cm (the nightlies as of now).
I've confirmed the following requirements:
1. 10.4.2.20 - TWRP 2.5.0.0 - JB
2. CM 10.1 5/25/2013 Nighty (This is a 4.2.2 ROM - requiring the JB, not 4.2 bootloader - i imagine at some point this will be updated)
3. GAPPS 20130301-signed

TWRP higher 2.4.4.0 giving weird screen

Greetings. Today I wanted to try a KitKat rom on my TF300T (currently on PacMan Rom 4.3), but as I've figured out, I needed a new version of recovery, since I was using TWRP 2.4.4.0.
So I flashed it (version for 4.2 Bootloader, of course), but even though I've tried nearly all versions higher than 2.4.4.0 (for ex. 2.5.0.0 or 2.6.1.0), I was still getting this weird screen (not my picture, but the same problem) and the only way, how to solve it, is to go back on my default TWRP version - 2.4.4.0.
Any help is much appreciated!

Which stock rom were you on, 10.x.x.x.x.x?

Hello and thanks for quick reply! My stock rom was 10.6.1.8.
Anyway, some really weird thing happened - I downloaded TWRP 2.6.1.0 (again, version 4.2BL), flashed it, went to recovery but whoa - It installed CWM 6.0.4.5...? How is that even possible? And yes, the blob was downloaded from the official TWRP site.
Anyway, with this new "TWRP" (aka. CWM ) I was able to install this KitKat rom, but still I would like to know the solution for the TWRP problem.
But still, truth is, that my stock rom is very old, going to update it then - Thanks!
EDIT: Ah, now I see it, my bad Just found this:
If current bootloader = 10.6.1.8 - JB 4.2 - recovery to flash = ONLY TWRP "openrecovery-twrp-2.4.4.0-tf300t-4.2.blob" - flashing a non-4.2 version of TWRP or any version of CWM will brick device. Also flashing 2.5.0.0-tf300t-4.2 on the 10.6.1.8 bootloader results in a split-screen issue.

[Q] Can't install 4.4.2

At this point I've tried to install both
[ROM][CM11][4.4.2][KitKang][KANG] TF300T nightly builds and
[ROM][4.4.2][OFFICIAL] CM-11.0 for tf300t on TWRP 2.5.0.0 (I'm coming from Cromi-X 5.2.3), but received the following error: error executing updater binary in zip.
Then I tried to install TWRP 2.6.3.0 (for 4.2 bootloader) but received the same error.
Then I tried to install CWM 6.0.2.3 but it couldn't see any storage at all.
Do you know how I can install any of the new 4.4.2 roms?

You're right! too much risk of brick ... there is a simple and effective guide ... I keep the stock version

Nobody knows which recovery I should use?

You need the special KitKat recovery to install a 4.4.2 ROM. Look in the first post of the OmniRom thread or the seventh post of the Official CM thread for that recovery. You need to be on the latest JB booloader: 10.6.1.15 and above.

I flashed the recovery which is in the first post of the Official CM thread and that one works fine. You can follow the instructions which are in post #7 and make sure you restart into your current android OS. Otherwise you probably won't see internal or external SD in recovery mode.

Yes, that is the compatible KitKat CWM. There is also a compatible KitKat TWRP.

[Q] [Answered] Questions before atempting to install CM

Hello xda-developers,
My TF300T was becoming very slow in the last few months so I decided to reset it to do a "fresh start". While doing so I would also like to upgrade my ROM. (Im currently running Android 4.1 with CleanRom 3.2).
I'm using the CWM Recovery 6.0.1.3 and would like to upgrade to CyanogenMod 10.2 (Stable - the *.zip file from the CM-website)
By reading several threads there seems to be some problems with current Android Versions and older bootloaders. My question is now:
Can I simply flash the new CM-zip with my recovery (After doing the factory reset) - or is there anything else I have to watch out for?

If you are on a 4.1 ROM you probably need to upgrade your bootloader first.
The easiest way is to flash the latest ASUS stock ROM, then do a factory reset and after that flash recovery and your new ROM.
There are several ways to accomplish this, all covered in detail in several threads.

When you upgrade your bootloader, you will need to upgrade your recovery as well to a -42 TWRP if you are flashing CM10.2 or TWRP 2.6.3.1 for KitKat.

Alright, get Asus Stock from their website, install that, then reset and flash recovery (TWRP - what exactly does the "-42" mean?) After that I'm good to install CM.

Oops, got the order wrong: first flash recovery, then do the factory reset using recovery. Don't use the wipe option on the bootloader screen.
There are several versions of TWRP, usually named -ics, -jb and -42.
Don't use the -ics or -jb versions with the new bootloader, but use a -42 version for flashing CM 10.
For flashing CM 11 you need yet another variant of TWRP that is not available from the official download site. Check the CM 11 thread for a download link.

Ah okay - but this leaves another question: Why exactly do I need the Asus ROM when I already have a 4.2 recovery? Shouldn't Cyanogenmod 10.2 take care of the bootloader then?

No, CM does not include a bootloader. That is only included in the stock ROM.
That bootloader runs early before the CM Linux kernel is loaded.
The "4.2" recovery only means that it works with the updated bootloader ASUS introduced with the Android 4.2 update. Sorry, I know it is confusing. Thank ASUS for giving us all those incompatible bootloader versions.

Problems with installing CM 11 (newbie)

So i was trying to flash CM 11 onto my Razr HD following the instructions on this thread:

However, after flashing and everything, my phone ends up in a bootloop... I'm on 4.4.2, 183.46.10XT926, kernel 3.4.42 and an unlocked bootloader
Any help?

i dont think cm is updated to 4.4 source yet, i could be wrong. (as it turns out, i was wrong and cm is on 4.4 source)
if it is not, you cant install it over 4.4, that's why it is bootlooping.

What do you talking about? CM11 is 4.4.4, maybe @braube is trying to install an old version of CM11 that is based on 3.0 kernel, just try the latest versions available here: http://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=moto_msm8960

I know you stated you followed the directions, but just in case, this is what I do:
1. Boot into TWRP
2. Wipe cache, dalvik cache, data and system
3. Install CM11.
4. Install GAPPS
5. Wipe cache and dalvik (from the Install screen)
6. Reboot and profit.
If this still doesn't work for you, you might have a corrupted download for CM11 and/or GAPPS, so try downloading them again and make SURE you are using the correct CM11 image.
If you are getting them from epinter, then make sure you choose the correct one. There are a LOT of ROM images there (for XT925, for CM10 for JB-based phones, CM11 xt926 I believe is for JB based phones, you want the CM11 with msm9690 in the file name).

Also, make sure you have the correct TWRP installed (2.7.1.0) that is KK based. Do NOT use earlier versions which are based off of JB.
You can also use CWM recovery, but make sure it's 6.0.4.9. Anything else is for JB-based phones that haven't been upgraded to KK.

Thanks for all the replies. I just did a standard wipe with TWRP so maybe thats the problem.
Another question, is the msm8960 CM11 compatible with XT926? I read somewhere that it was but i just want to make sure
