Hi, i have a question/problem thats been bugging me for a while and i couldnt find a solution...
I want to be able to listen to music while playing a game/ using an app, now some apps are ok with this and "shut up" the moment you start playing music, but others, such as kingdom rush for example, shut down the music playback the moment you open the app.
Is there a method to controll wich app produces sound? Much like on the pc?
Thats in advance for your help =]
(Also i read some where that the best way to get an answer is not to ask a question but instead provide the wrong answer, so here goes: ANDROID SUCKS BECAUSE THERES NO WAY TO CONTROL WHICH APP PRODUCES SOUBD!! =] )
Hello @Moldat
Firstly, this can be quite easily achieved if you're running a device with Android 4.4.
I'm not sure if "App Ops" is available on lower android versions. But if you're on KitKat, you can simply go into App Ops, scroll through the apps, find you game. And turn off the "Media Volume".
This stops the game from using inbuilt music and sound fx. This means you can keep your music on in the background.
Hope this helped, if you need to ask anything else, please do so.

Oh you're in luck mate, go to the play store and search for "App Ops" download and install it. There are many choose the one that you feel like having. And its pretty much the same procedure, scroll lthrough apps and disable the media volume.

Hi,
I am Android newcomer.
With WinMobile could be set somewhere in the Regestry the duration of the vibration of the haptic feedback (eg 20 ms). Where and how can I set for Android. For example. It is at "SwiftKey" possible, of course, only for the program, I would like to keep it for the whole Androidfeedback, I find the vibration that is too long! ...
Greetings
Johannes
PS. Sorry for my poor english
I second this and would even pay for it via paypal or market
I'm researching this exact issue for someone over on Android forums. Has anyone learned if it is possible to change the vibration specs in Android?

This seems to have been removed in CM9 and I miss the feature.
I really would love to look at this more and I've tried to search the source for the CM7 settings app but I can't find where this setting is implemented. I would love to create a mod for this since it seems CM9 are not implementing a lot of old features.
If someone knows where I could look further to find out how this is achieved I would love a pointer

Thanks for the tip but I'm afraid it doesn't seem to allow me to manually set "ms duration" which is the feature I'm looking for... So still looking for either the correct source for this in CM7 to base it on or any other input that might lead further
Anyone know of an app that will allow music controls on the Google Navigation screen? And if not, maybe this would be something helpful to others, if someone could write this?
Bump! I this bugs the crap out of me! I was a long time iphone user and switched to android recently. This is the only thing that bugs me about the switch. With the iPhone I could double tap the home button, scroll left and control whatever music was playing without leaving the navigation app or use the built in app music controls.
On android I have to scroll down to the notification menu, click on my music player, change the song, scroll back down into the notification menu, click on navigation to reopen it. I know it's a little thing but it's really annoying.
Any fixes or work around?
bump again, this drives me crazy when i'm driving! I have to decide before I leave whether I want to use the music app and actually be able to control the songs, or use the GPS and actually see where I'm going. Is there any way to get music controls on the GPS screen, or even another app that will at the very least give you the next turn information and let you control your music from one screen?

I quoted your older post because I don't have an answer for your most recent post.
The workaround is going to depend on your Rom. I have not been stock in over a year so I'm not sure there is one for that.
I usually have my audio steaming through a Bluetooth device and can use that to control my music on all the roms I have tried.
The Rom I am currently playing with is ClearDroid 1.4.1 build 2, which has a recent apps window in the notification area. You can quickly switch back and forth between music and navigation using this. 1 swipe and one press. If music is playing the notification area also gives you info on the track and a pause button. Tapping it opens the music app but pausing the music causes this notification to clear and you would have to switch back to the music app to restart.
I seem to recall more complete music controls in the notification area of other roms. I can load some nandroids to check.
Now I'm in a Pickle

Figured the "please post all questions in the Q & A section...." was not appropriate for a thread that has been here for so long.
P. S. It's SwiftKey 3's predictive text, not Swype.

Hey,
I just got my myTouch 4G Slide, and I have a few annoying issues. It could be due to the fact that I bought it in China (it even has some apps with Chinese names).
I don't like the "genius" button - I won't use that, and it doesn't work whatsoever. Is there a way to replace its function with, say, search button (like I had on my previous Android phone)?
Music: firstly, I don't even have a music application - I have to open it with the File Explorer (so I can't multitask). Could be because it's Chinese. The main problem is that the music is played from the speaker in the back of the phone. I like to sometimes listen to music without earphones. Is it possible to play music from the same speaker I use to talk?
When I scroll the applications menu, it "jumps" rather than scrolls smoothly - kinda like the difference between scrolling with the mouse wheel, and hitting "Page Down". Is it also a Chinese issue?
Pictures: so far I'm loving the camera. The only issue is that the pictures it produces are named IMG001, IMG002 and so on. That's really annoying. Is it possible to have the pictures named like on my previous phone, which was simply the time it was taken (yyyy-mm-dd hh-mm-ss)?
Thanks a lot for all helpers!

The music icon in the app drawer is one of the apps hidden by Rosie (Sense Launcher). /system/customize/MNS/default.xml has the hidden app list in it.
I don't know if it's possibly to play music through the front-facing speaker at this time, though there's no reason why it can't be. A fun project for someone.

Yea, that's the way it's supposed to be. I don't like it either. You have to edit the Sense launcher directly to change it.
I just spent all day digging around in a decompiled Rosie.apk (Sense launcher) pulling out Kidzone by it's teeth. I've been fixing that kind of stuff since before the sun came up today, funny you should post those questions.

Dunno about this one. I don't think it's a native option, but don't see why it couldn't be written in after the fact.
Thanks for the reply.
Firstly I think we can be sure all the things I posted in OP are solvable - simply because (I think) Android is a Turing-complete machine
As for the "genius" key, I suppose it requires root etc.? Well I guess I would have to root it sometime
For music, how do I un-hide it, then? It really makes no sense to hide such a basic application!
I hope you'll keep me and the rest of the forum updated with the other stuff mentioned. Best of luck!
Have a nice weekend,
Ron.
Can't you get google music from the market? If not, download a room, pull the apk and install it. And this phone is much much much much better rooted. Thanks six btw, enjoying the rom.

You have to... i dunno wut da fuhhh T Mo did with this "OS Overlay?"
So, are there any available solutions to the presented problems (except for the first one)?
In addition, I think that when I firstly got the phone and got a call, I got two circles (accept/reject), which I had to drag to a ring (a bit similar to the lock screen). Now it just gives me the standard accept-reject buttons. I couldn't find anything about it in the settings - what have gone wrong?
I believe the answering screen alters depending on whether your screen was locked, or unlocked, at the moment you received your call. Correct me if I'm wrong...
Anyone knows why they removed the Stocks app? Or it is hidden? If hidden how to enable it?

How did you root it and what did you install in it?
I'm just a bit scared of doing that.
I noticed when playing my music w/ Viper FX that the sound quality goes from using the drivers of the app to stock flat (audio quality depreciates) since the app was killed while performing another task (such as opening hangouts or other apps while using phone). I noticed that Android doesn't release the RAM from another app that was being used (ex. ESPN, hangouts, etc) since those apps were more recent while Viper was opened and left. I was wondering if there existed anything to set a higher priority of the Viper FX (or other apps) over some so they won't be killed even if newer used? Thanks for any information.
Think this would probably be the easiest way: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smartprojects.MemoryLocker - the developer is very well known for these kinds of mods and RAM management. Adjusting the oom ratio will give the app higher priorities so make it less likely to be killed. I'm sure there are ways to manual doing it via adding a script or something, but time and effort for all that, I dunno if it's worth it unless you really like to tinker and do stuff manually.
Thank you, that will probably be easier way with root. Was checking to see if any way to do manually since don't need just for Viper but may have to do it.
Ah, sorry. I was thinking that you had to have root for Viper, so that you were already rooted. Pretty sure there isn't a way to make these kinds of tweaks without root either manually or via an app like Memory Locker. There really isn't a compelling reason NOT to root, in my opinion. It's not complicated (compared to most other phones) and is fairly easy to reverse. If you'd like some help with it, lemme know.
I am rooted, sorry. Would it be possible to push the app from user app status to system app (via file explorer/permissions) (such as MusicFX)? Installed normally and it works great but maybe, if by making a system app, it'd be less likely to be killed versus user?
Don't want to use titanium backup push to system, had bad experiences and will not use the app again for some time.
Theres discussion about putting viper in /system/priv-app in one of the two viper thread's in themes and apps (n5).
I still have mine in /data/data.
I've made it resident with the xposed module called "app settings" but I can't confirm anything yet

Hi,
I have not tested and I don't know if it will be useful but there is an Xposed module to keep apps in memory, maybe you can try... This module is not only for this, there is other features.
Here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2437377.
- Resident in memory: If set, the system will try much harder to keep the app in memory even when you leave it. It might make the app more responsive when reopening but will also consume more RAM, possibly slowing down the overall system.

Well I don't know if this is something that we can do or something the people who made the Viper audio mod need to do. Wouldn't a good way to keep it in memory be to keep a persistent notification? It really bumps up an app's priority in Android when it has an on-going notification up on the notification bar.

Yeah, exactly that. I just installed it again after a clean wipe of my phone a few days ago and have begun tinkering with it and JUST found that setting. To OP: enable the persistent notification. That'll make sure Viper4Android a high priority app when it sweeps through its open apps looking for one to close.

I think "hiding" it is actually "preventing" it, thus undoing what you want to achieve.
I think further discussion should join the viper4android thread, to keep it all in one place....

I am not sure on this one. The first thing that comes to mind is long-pressing the notification, going to App info, then unchecking the box that says "Show notifications". However, I think if you do that, it lowers its importance, circumventing the advantage of showing the notification in the first place, and you're back to square one. So I guess I don't know how to help you with this part.
Yeah, I suppose we should probably move to the thread listed above, too.
So I've been using venom ROMs for years but now they've been discontinued and the Oreo ROM no longer has a feature I find essential, that is heads up notifications for calls, now my question is, is there any other ROM for the U11 which has this or is there a way (without breaking safety net) to add it? Maybe an app or framework?
Any help would be appreciated as without this feature driving with navigation is infuriating.
Many thanks.
Have you tried something like "android auto" and the likes which set your display to be more convenient while driving?.
That doesn't answer my question
You said "maybe an app"... Android auto is an app. Maybe you should be more grateful for the input you receive or maybe reword your posts to reflect exactly what you're looking for.

Hi, while that app does add a heads up notification, it doesn't stop the dialer displaying over the whole screen which makes it pointless, I need the dialer not to show only the heads up notification like Venom used to do.
