Is there a way to tether wit N5 on sprint? I haven't been able to find anything about it in the forums thanks
I'm pretty sure it works right off the bat. And if not, root and install any custom rom and it will tether.

I would prefer not to install custom ROM however I am rooted though I have not had any luck.

even though its for t-mobile users it worked for many sprint users.

i have sprint and this is what works for me have to be rooted.. need the app SQlite editor ..find settings storage.. click that.. then u will see settings.db.. click that.. then u will see global.. click that.. then top right of the screnn u will see a + sign.. hit that.. then under mane write.. tether_dun_required then under value put a 0.. after that supersu app should ask for root permissions.. after that reboot.. should be good to go :good:

Just run the SuperOneClick rooting tool. Click root. Wait till its done. Click Enable Non-Market apps. Restart Phone. Install apps from the SD card.
You dont get actual root but you can install any app you want no hassle.

This is confirmed. I ran SuperOneClick. It ran all the way through with no errors like I got root and then I clicked Allow Non Market Apps. After disconnecting and rebooting, of course I truly did not have root, but I tried installing a non market apk file from my sd card and it worked!! It did not add the option to the settings menu, but nonetheless it is enabled. This should work great for the Amazon Appstore now. Thanks for the heads up!!
Confirmed x2 - this was all I was looking for ATM.. Didn't think about using the ol SuperOneClick
SOC will give you temp root until you reboot.
All you need is temp root to enable Non-market apps...I suggested this to people a month or so ago.
Glad to see it show up again. Its a super-easy solution for those not wanting full root, but still wanting sideloading.
It's even easier to do than the Sideloading wonder machine...
Works great. I still think its time for me to go all the way.
Gives temp root? Sweet all I need

THANK YOU just what I needed, sideloading on the go..!!! WORKS..

At first Amazon store was cool getting a couple free apps. Then I realized they don't transfer over and you have to continue using amazon store to update them. Kinda sucks just to save a couple bucks.

Root if you want more features. As for performance, the stock kernel on 4.0.4 is pretty fast.
Thanks for the warm welcome and just got time to respond. So going to dig into the S and root it.

I don't see any reason not to root your phone.
n00b ?
I rooted my phone using this http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1007782. When I vol up and power should I see clockworkmod when not connected to the usb? I don't. I downloaded Rom Manager and nothing went into superuser?
What am I doing wrong??
I have to usb, cmd, fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-crespo.img every time?
Shouldn't it just stick?

After you flash recovery, you should boot into it. Then flash a ROM. If you leave it stock, there is a script that flashes stock recovery every boot, so you lose cwm.
There is a way to disable that script if you want to remain stock, but i can't remember where i saw the instructions for that.

So am I not actually rooted then? Super user is still empty and titanium backup is still failing to get root??
I tried this below but it wouldn't let me change the name?? I used astro, solid explorer and ES file. If I have root shouldn't I be able to do this?
"Note: There is a script in your phone that will remove ClockworkMod recovery when you reboot. In order to stop this from happening, download a root explorer from the Market (ES File Explorer, Root Explorer, File Expert). Use it to navigate to /system/etc/ on your phone. Find a file named “install-recovery.sh” and rename to to something like “install-recovery.sh.bak”. This will render it disabled and will make sure you keep your custom recovery."
via http://www.freeyourandroid.com/guide/nexus-s-rooting-guide
Factory images from Google don't have the install-recovery.sh file. Only if you get OTA you will have that file.

I found the thread telling how to enable all lte modes which gave the handy dandy msl reader app and that's all well and good, but I can't seem to find where the manual prl update is :/ I've found it on the og evo and my S3 but it don't see it in the ##data# menu on this bad boy. Am I just blind? If so please braille it out for me (and I mean absolutely no offense to the vision impaired, just trying to be funny)

Haven't tried it myself, but you need root to use it.
I just use Roam control to force roaming.

Hi just flashed MM to my Tab 2 but even though I love the speed of it Sky Q app will not work on it as it wont run on rooted devices even on a device which has root but root is disabled.
So, looking for a rom that is better than the stock but does not have any root stuff on it that sky q is detecting, (apparently a common problem with this app)
Any help would be appreciated as want a newer rom but need sky q to work but so many varietys of roms around don't know where to start.
Thanks
Have you tired using supersu's unroot option to see if it can remove what that sky app is looking for?

Yeah, if you don't have SuperSu, get it off the Playstore. Open the app, tap settings and you will get an option which says Enable SuperUser. Turn that off and root is gone until you turn it back on
I think all custom roms come rooted. See if unrooting will fix it.
omni and aosp comes unrooted
